Overall a good stay. They advertised gluten free bread at the breakfast buffet. When I asked for some, they said it had to be offered and would take 10-12 minutes. Turns out they had it frozen and needed warm it up. It has over done and rock hard. Otherwise a good stay.

The room was far too warm even with the temperature set low. I had paid upfront when booking through hotels.com and this price included breakfast. On checkin i was asked for my card details and to pay the city tax. I left the hotel at 05:30 using the key drop box and 2 hours later receive an email from the hotel with my invoices for charges. I was charged again for the room, for breakfast and for tax. Have tried to contact the hotel bit so far not response.

Room Stale Smoke & Unhelpful Reception Staff

The room had a horrible odour and smell. Stale tobacco. Previous guests had been smoking in the room heavily and possibly the room had not been cleaned properly. The staff on reception were very unhelpful and lacked professional customer service skills. Their solution to the problem was to spray the room which would not have worked as the room needed full defumigation and deep clean and would take days/ long time to solve the terrible tobacco smells. We were left waiting for a long time and were advised that the hotel was fully booked, therefore no other options. We asked if we could be moved to another Novotel hotel within an hours drive which apparently was not possible. We asked for a refund under reasonable circumstance but were advised that was not possible too. At one point after one member of staff confirmed on inspection that the room had a terrible odour (the same lady who said the room could be sprayed with chemicals which would have created an awful smell) another staff member appeared and lied to say the room was ok. We eventually left Le Havre and on a busy Saturday night were able to book hotel rooms in Rouen an hours drive away at €270 expense. We will be making a formal complaint to the senior management of Novotel for full compensation and damages. We are a family of 4 (2 young children) it was a very distressing experience and the staff highly unprofessional. We have stayed in many hotels in France but never this before. Disgraceful behaviour.

There was hair in the shower drain; the fridge did not work, and not only the staff did not fix it, they also did not apologize for it; parking in front of the hotel to load and unload is badly thought out and hazardous; the staff are rude and speak condescendingly, as if I am supposed to know how things work even though this us my first time ever in this city and at this hotel.

Clean and basic but food was a let down.

We stayed here with our 3 young children. Upon check-in, the lady was helpful and polite. The hotel looks nice and is clean, rooms are also clean and basic. Good enough for a short stop. We were there for one night, in 2 rooms due to no family room options. The location is fine but my wife preferred to use the tram, which is very close, instead of walking into town as it felt a little edgy.Turned out fine though.

It is a big hotel and sadly there was a lot of noise in the hallways at night and a fire alarm went off at about 8:40 in the morning.
The real shortfall was at breakfast, which was more like a free-for-all. Lots of people piling plates high, bumping into each other. They kept running out of food, waited nearly 20 minutes for them to replenish the hot food, which when arrived was uncooked. The scrambled eggs were sloppy and the sausages were pink in the middle. Not worth the wait and with 3 small children in a somewhat chaotic environment, it was not an enjoyable time. Not sure how they maintain a 4 Star rating with food and service like that.

At check-out we mentioned the noise and poor food. After negotiating they removed the breakfast and parking costs from our bill. However when challenged on the state of the food, which she agreed was under cooked when she saw the photo's, there wasn't even an apology. Not impressed, as our children had eaten the food.

Overall, this place is basic and fine for a night, but stick to the croissant and don't expect too much!

This was an okay stay, though I certainly wouldn't rate this as a 4star hotel. The location isn't that convenient, fairly far from most downtown restaurants for instance, and there's no parking in the hotel... You have to park in a nearby underground parking and pay for it. We had no luggage, but I can't imagine it would be pleasant if we did... The hotel itself and room was fine, but again, not great (example, the mini fridge didn't work).

We stayed in three Novotels in different cities on three successive nights. This is one to avoid at the moment. Despite check in at 2pm the room wasn’t ready until after 3pm which made for a long wait with exhausted children. It was then we noticed the hotel clearly under construction despite no notice of this when booking. The kids needed the toilet so we got given a room key for the first floor to use the toilet. The room was large, spacious and newly refurbished. However when we got to our room it was tiny, with hardly any floor space to stand once the sofa bed was out. When showering later in the evening we realised there were only three towels in the room despite our booking for four people. A quick call to reception for an extra towel wasn’t well received when I was told to fetch the towel from reception myself. Not great customer service and we won’t return.

Hotel being renovated so some noise from 8 til 5 ish. Great location, near to station, Docks shopping centre and not too far from city centre. Parking is not ideal, being located underneath an adjacent building. Road noise can be heard in the rooms and the air conditioning did not work in either of our rooms. Due to the renovations, breakfast was served right outside the room. Not a bad place but I will look elsewhere next time.

Bad experience with unpleasent service

We had a very bad experience with this Hotel. There were remodel working and we suffered from the noise. Breakfast room was set up in the rooms lobby just in front of our room door. Staff at front desk was very unpleasent at checking in. There was no warning about the remodel working when doing the booking whish is really unaceptable. We had a booking for two nights but decided to cancel the 2nd night.

Nice hotel with some issues

Stayed here on an overnight stay on the way down to Brittany. The hotel was typical for a branded hotel (clean, presentable, tidy, etc) however, the restaurant was being renovated during our stay so the breakfast was served in a temporary area on the second floor and the bar was being used to serve food. The hotel room was ok but the WIFI was very slow and kept dropping connection. Our 6th floor family room had a balcony without a child proof lock so we ended up wedging the sofabed against the balcony door. Breakfast tables were left uncleared and the food offering was limited. Location is right next to a marina and new shopping centre, which is good for a wander around. Parking is an underground carpark that had loads of spaces and was slightly tight to manoeuvre around if you've a big car.

Front desk clerks spoke some English but communication was sketchy at best parking was a pain in the u know what ! Couldn't get out of the underground structure and when u contact the gate keeper through a info button he speaks only French. 20 min runaround between front desk and info guy. Terrible. They should have an attendant at parking gate for support. the room was small and can't compare to Novotel in Berlin which is so much nicer. Crappy dining area with high prices. They should provide a free. breakfast for price of room

Worst nights sleep - ever

Nice hotel in a great location however due to the idiots in the next room deciding to hold a party at 3am which resulted in them setting off a fire extinguisher and subsequently the fire alarm, this has to go down as the worst night I have ever spent in a hotel.
Spending the early hours of a Sunday morning on the pavement outside the hotel while the fire brigade and police check it all out was not what I intended for my young family when we booked for a leisurely one night travel break in Le Havre.

I would sleep in the car before I would stay here

This was the worst of our vacation. They advertised this as a four star with slippers and a mini coffee bar. What we got was a bed with a black hair in it. A spider on the ceiling and a fly buzzing around the room. There were only two towels and we had our adult son with us. We went to ask for another towel and they told us to go look again because there were three. We looked again and found only two so we went back to the desk and the clerk argued with us again! We asked for a towel and he got us a hand towel. The breakfast looked good but we went to eat at 9:00 am and there was very little food left and we were told that breakfast ends at 9:30 and they would not be making more. So we checked out and went to McDonalds. The worst part of the whole experience was that the next day, we saw that even though we had prepaid for the room through hotels.com, the hotel also charged us not once, but twice!! When we called the hotel, we were told the manager would call back, she never did. We called periodically throughout the day and was told that she was busy and would call back. Finally, we contacted hotels.com and they took care of the problem immediately.

The hotel is well located to all services. The staff on reception were not helpful. On the first evening I was very unwell and needed a doctor. My companion rang down to reception and was told to wait for 10 minutes. Nothing happened after 10 minutes so we went to reception where we finally got an address to a hospital. However the address did not bring us to the A&E but to what I believe was a psychiatric hospital. In general, the staff on reception on our first evening were not helpful at all.
On our last evening I asked for a blanket or duvet. This was not provided. I had booked a twin room however one bed was a put up bed and it only had on it a sheet and thin blanket - no duvet like the double bed had. I froze for the first 2 nights but by night 3 needed a good sleep. When I asked for a duvet or blanket I was directed to the temperature gauge and showed how to use it. I said I knew this but required a blanket or duvet. Eventually the receptionist said yes they would bring one to my room, however this did not happen.

The Novotel LeHavre is well situated by the station and also the tram line. It is also an easy walk into the town. The rooms are of a good size and some overlook the waterway. The buffet breakfast has a wide choice of both hot and cold food.

We stayed as an adult family over an extended Easter break. The staff worked very hard but appeared rather run off their feet at times. The breakfast buffet was good but the evening restaurant was only reasonable if they were not run off their feet... if they were too busy the service and the food quality suffered. I felt they did their best and we had an enjoyable time but would probably chose to eat out in the evening if we stayed there again.

Lovely Le Havre

Le Havre is a great food destination, with a wonderful farmer's market, amazing bakeries, delicious restaurants, a superb chocolatier, and friendly coffee shops. The Novotel is across the square from the action, making for a quiet night's sleep and a short walk to the sea and downtown. The room was square and a bit ordinary, but the extra amenities were nice, and the hotel restaurant was top-notch. My niece had the best duck that she'd ever eaten there.

Excellent stay. Shame the lift was very slow and annoying. The other lift was broken. We had to wait long periods to go to fourth floor. We gave up at times and used the stairs.
The hotel is at a perfect location for the docks and to use and park our car. Shame the toils for the bridge took too long which held traffic for a hour at peak time.

Situation hopeless

Arrived at hotel from Poitiers very tired and asked about the garage facilities. Explanation poor and we couldn't find it very easily as it was separate to hotel in another street and difficult with all our baggage.
Receptionist was indifferent and didn't explain that we should unload in front of hotel before driving to garage.
Was given a very nice corner room on 3rd floor only to find that it had \"dirt in bath\" (lump of black) , towels everywhere, and had obviously not been cleaned after last guest. We were then given a similar room on 5th floor which was first class and in order.
Food service at dinner was indifferent. We had to ask for bread rolls and butter and even for pepper and salt. Meal was average but I noticed that a couple sitting near us left their main meal untouched.
This is the first time I have ever complained about a hotel on line, and as an ex-stewardess I have stayed in many round the world. Management needed to really control this hotel and make the staff attitude to guests more acceptable.

Convenient for ferry

We chose the hotel as a Friday night stop over from the ferry on our outbound holiday leg. It was 5 minutes from the ferry which was perfect. Car parking was not so good. As we approached by car it was not immediately obvious where the hotel entrance was and parking to check in is very limited. Overnight parking is either across the road in an open air park or 5 minutes walk away underground. Check in and out was easy.The room was very good. The restaurant was ok but with a fairly limited menu. I guess this was because it is mainly a business hotel whose main trade is Sunday evening to Thursday

Great location, easy access by car and five minutes walk to a shopping centre. Rooms were bright, clean and comfortable. Staff were extremely helpful even giving my two small children welcome gifts on arrival. The only negative was that parking was offsite in a nearby underground car park. Great hotel, very close to the port.

After a very long car journey (7.5 hrs) we were all ready for a good nights sleep. The hotel staff were very helpful and spoke fluent English. A lovely clean room/bathroom with comfy beds. The hotel was also very close to the Ferry terminal which was great for our journey home. If I was to stay in Le Havre again I would definitely use this hotel.

We stayed one night in 2 rooms. The rooms were well maintained and comfortable.

If you need a cot make sure you order in advance as they did not have one available when we stayed (although one had been requested)
Make sure you check bill on leaving as they tried to charge us for breakfast which as includes in the price.

On arrival the staff were very welcoming and friendly speaking excellent English. The room was a good size for a family of 4. The sofa bed which split into two separate single beds was comfortable and ideal for the family. The room was spotlessly clean and the bathroom to the same impeccable standard. Wi Fi was available and facilities/games for younger children were also available for use. We will certainly use this hotel again.

Nice hotel, friendly staff and clean large rooms, location ok but typical of most ports with working environment, local shops and area have received a boost of finance. Breakfast fine with a wide selection from the buffet.

couldn't be better

Good sound proof, and you may sleep like a baby. I used le Havre as a base for traveling, and it is convenient to walk across the street for the train station and the bus depot. Supermarket is just opposite the train station. Book in advance to enjoy early bird discount. Walk-in prize is 40% higher.

Lovely reception staff

Receptionists were lovely, I was very impressed with the overall hotel it exceeded my expectations, on what I thought would be a budget hotel it was in fact much nicer.

Will use it again

We booked the room overnight to catch a ferry the following morning. 2 adults and 2 children. Hotel was excellent and very well situated for the ferry and shopping centre. My only comment wound be the service at the restaraunt was a little slow. Will most likely use the hotel again.

Good for a family stop over

Nice and clean, close to 'The Docks' shopping center. The hotel had a small play area outside, and some toys inside for children. Staff all friendly and helpfull

Bad restaurant service

The location is 10min walk to centre, 20min to the beach. clean rooms ventilation system didn't work. Reception very good but Bar and restaurant very very bad service. Breakfast OK as it's a buffet. EAT at the local restaurants meals poor and service even worse. Overall the hotel was worth it's money. It costs 4.70 for parking which is in an underground car park not much security and is a short walk from the hotel.

excellent access to the ferry

For our purpose which was to catch the ferry home it was ideally situated across the road from the terminal and there was a large car park next to it. The carpark fee was paid at a preferential rate at reception on checkout, which saves some anxiety.
We arrived early enough to walk the kilometre or so to the fine old fashioned beach and its line of good if slightly primitive restaurants.

WE LOVED OUR STAY. WE HAD A FEW THINGS THAT WE NEEDED TO SORT OUT WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE HOTEL, IE, OUR LUGGAGE WAS DELAYED AND OUR CAR HAD A FLAT TYRE, SO WE WERE VERY PLEASED WHEN THE STAFF ON THE FRONT DESK HELPED US OUT AND MADE ALL THE CALLS NECESSARY TO GET THINGS ORGANISED. WE REALLY APPRECIATED ALL THEY DID AND THEY WERE HAPPY TO HELP.! WE ALSO HAD A GREAT LUNCH IN THE RESTAURANT SO OVERALL OUR STAY WAS VERY PLEASURABLE AND WOULD STAY THERE AGAIN.K

we reserved a 3 person room. the second bed was a sofa bed, so not very comfortable. It is ok for kids, but I was with my mom and child, so they slept in the king bed and i slept in the sofa bed. For one night, that was ok.Everything else was good. free but annoying internet, as you have to give your name and email every 6 hours or every time you close the computer.

Great hotel for families - including dogs!

Really helpful service, including accomodating the need for us to change rooms so that our two children could have separate beds. It was also great that they were so welcoming to our two dogs - who were even allowed to join us in the resturant! I would recommend this hotel to all.

The young men at the reception desk were especially helpful in explaining local transportation, busses, etc. They were very patient in excellent English when responding to my many questions. The hotel's location was perfect for our needs. I would recommend it to anyone with needs similar to ours.
