The hotel was just beautiful filled with bouquets of fresh flowers & had an air of old time elegance with modern amenities. TL;DR: rooms are dated but very comfortable, breakfast is incredible, location is great for exploring Weimar.

Now the full version: check-in was easy and fast, staff was very friendly. We were amused that the hotel doesn’t use keycards but actual keys still. That in fact resonates with the room decor and overall aesthetic: lots of dark wood and carpet with gold details, giving it a dated feel. It isn’t, however, a bad room at all. Size was more than perfect for my husband and I, and the room was fully equipped with all the necessary amenities, including slippers and bathrobes. Shower was on the okay side but the bathroom is definitely spacious. Be aware that at least in our case the double bed was actually two beds pushed together, but they were very comfortable nonetheless. The breakfast buffet was a hands-down winner, though, with ample variety and fresh ingredients. You can tell the hotel and the staff put a lot of effort into all the details, such as the lovely cards with various quotes that you could find in your room or on your breakfast table. We did use the parking and valet service for an additional fee and th parking is conveniently located behind the building. Finally, location-wise this hotel is fantastic. We got to explore all the sights and the Christmas market on foot. I would definitely recommend the stay.

Fantastic hotel and very best position for doing all that Weimar has- all the buses pull up in the tree-lined street (Goethe Strasse), could walk from station but just 2 easy bus stops. Restaurant meals elegant and good, staff very helpful and friendly, room elegant and large, cooking facilities with utensils on request, we didn’t end up using but all delivered on request. Spotless and serviced daily. Access to town sights, bars, restaurants etc just minutes stroll and utterly picturesque. Town full of serious museums and historical houses/places with amply, expert, English commentaries and guides. A civic education but also beautiful park by the small river. Hotel is excellent choice.

The hotel was very good and I had a very good stay. I arrived very late in the night but I let the receuiption know in advance and they said it would be no problem. Indeed it was very easy and I didn't have any issues. The room was clean and it was a very good size with a desk to work at. I would certainly stay here again in the future if I visit Weimar.

Was the nicest hotel I ever stayed in Europe. And have travelled extensively over the last 25 years.
The hotel room was large with great features like a mini kitchen, pants press, coffee maker, shower robe, slippers to name a few. Breakfast was amazing with multiple selections.Also the location was great, 20 min walk from the train station and right across the street from the center of town.

I thought I sent this a minute ago.
Our stay at the hotel ((3 nights) was great. The check-in staff was helpful, and arranged parking. The breakfast staff was consistently friendly and helpful. The man who got our car was very friendly and helpful. Overall, a great hotel.
Our only complaint was the WiFi. It disconnected every time the screen-saver timed out, and It often took SEVERAL tries to reconnect. This is frustrating after awhile.
The only other hotel where we've had WiFi problems was Best Western Bamberg. Could it be that Best Western has a general contract for all its hotels in Germany with an incompetent internet provider?
Anyway, other than that, a great hotel. Thanks.

The air-conditioning did not work well and when we asked to have it checked the front desk person came up and said it was working fine. She said she had no other rooms to move us to. Disappointing as air-conditioning was one of the things we wanted most. Good location near lots of sight-seeing locations in town.

Expedia website said parking available, limited spaces, valet parking extra. When I arrived I was told there was only valet parking at 25 Euros per night. I pointed them to your website and they were very rude about it.

Conveniently located in centre of town next to one of the main bus stops. Luxurious hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Thoughtful points are a small fridge for cooling one's own drinks and keeping food fresh. Used to be the minibar obviously. Umbrella in cupboard and more at the hotel entrance. The safe was very small - only just managed to fit my laptop in. We decided against breakfast, because it was vastly overpriced. We paid a quarter as much in a nearby café.

The public spaces of this hotel are gracious. The comfort of the room is outdated, with amenities including a tinny radio built into the wall next to the bed, 1 packet of instant coffee with an electric kettle, and a bidet. The \"air conditioning\" seems to consist of a sound effect. The minibar's refrigerator likewise involved no cooling.

Great hotel in a must see city -- close to train station and the city attractions. Friendly staff.
Make plans in advance to visit the Anna Amalia library (Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek) in Weimar.

Weimar and Erfurt are connected by a great regional train service (less than 30 min apart). Make plans to see both cities over the weekend. Lots of train connections via Erfurt (another gorgeous city).

A fabulous hotel right next to Weimar old town

Great hotel 5 Star quality. Walk across the road and you are in the old town. 5 min walk from the theatre and the main centre. Buses are right outside the hotel entrance and are easy to navigate. If going to Weimar again I will have no hesitation to stay there for my visit. The Wi fi connection was a bit so so, that was the only thing not matching the rest of the five star hotel presentation and service.

Lovely architectural bones, skin of a Best Western

Excellent, central location. Being there in December, we were directly across the street from the Christmas Market. Most people whom we encountered (bartender, lobby tenders) spoke decent English.

Parking was difficult - we called ahead of time but the instructions we were given (just park in theback) didn’t make sense once we got there, as we couldn’t find access to the back of the building. We drove in circles for about ten minutes, then called the front desk several times but that receptionist barely spoke English so we struggled to communicate. We finally parked illegally on the sidewalk in front of the hotel so I could run inside and ask someone to get in the car with us and instruct us. It was dark and convoluted so I can’t possibly explain the route, but if you drive, ask the hotel for a map in advance. We then had to drag our bags through the utilities garage and up some stairs to the lobby. Drop your bags off at the front of the hotel before driving to the parking spot!

Parking was 20€ per night.

Our room was very clean and they even left mints on our pillows. Definitely better service than I’d expect from a Best Western!

I wouldn’t say we were in the lap of luxury, but we were certainly more than comfortable for the overnight-stop purpose of our trip!

Hotel was true to photos (beautiful!).

We had spent the day with family in Koelleda and needed a place to stay in the area as we were meeting a friend the next day in Erfurt. Hotels.com recommended the Best Western Premier Grand Hotel Russischer Hof and we were not disappointed. Staff was friendly and professional. The rooms were clean. The breakfast was great. And my car was retrieved promptly. My only minor complain is that I could not charge drinks at the bar to the room. Thanks for a great stay.

Not as welcoming as it should be.

Generally the hotel was very comfortable but the room cleaning was not that thorough, eg glasses left unwashed. In addition the receptionist who checked us in and out was brusque, unfriendly and extremely unwelcoming and I got the impression she had no time for British people, even though I speak German. We felt more tolerated than welcome at the hotel, albeit some of the staff were more pleasant, and won't be back.

Very good hotel in an exquisite place

Positive points: very central location, pleasant atmosphere in the surroundings, historically reach place.

Negative points: overpriced (if in addition one is tempted by “cheap” arrangements through websites of the type hotels.com, one finds out that the hotel has smaller rooms for such arrangements and the breakfast is left out of the bargain), some amenities require renovation, the personal is somewhat distant.

The hotel is beautiful and very convenient. We asked for an upgrade to a larger room and received it for a surcharge. We loved the hotel. Parking was a little inconvenient--about a block away for a charge of 8.50 per 24 hrs. Good internet connection. Nice breakfast, but somewhat pricey (not included). Minor annoyance: at checkout the credit card machine wasn't working and we had to pay in cash. That meant going and finding an ATM and returning to pay.

This is a lovely hotel centrally located. Easy walk to many sights, restaurants, and theater. Surprisingly, elevators are tiny and room is small, but all are lavishly appointed. I especially liked the \"pants presser\" in the room. Great for getting wrinkles out of packed clothing.

As my daughter and I were both ill for the duration of our stay it is hard to comment. The room was comfortable. Unfortunately, we are only English speaking so not being able to access English subtitles on the television was disappointing as that was our only form of entertainment, however, it is our fault that we've never learned a second language I suppose!

Overall one of the best hotels we have stayed in. We mistakenly booked flights from uk a day early for a conference in Jena but are so glad we did as weiner is so interesting a town. Only complaint is extortionate price of breakfast. Who requires food costing 38 euros for two first thing in the morning? We skipped this and enjoyed visit to local cafe for 10 euros!

Only quibble would be the extortionate price for breakfast, and being charged each for ordering one taxi to take us to the station. Better to have breakfast at one of the many excellent cafes nearby, and order the taxi yourself. Staff efficient, but it did feel impersonal, typical of a chain such as Best Western.

We stopped overnight to break up a long car trip, but I would have been happy to stay longer. The hotel is in the very center of this charming little town and has great rooms/amenities for the price and a pleasant old world feel. Hotel Russischer Hof Weimar - class & location

My wife and I arrived by rental car for a 2-night stay in July at the Premier Grand Hotel Russischer Hof in Weimar, Germany. This hotel is wonderful if you arrive by car. I parked the vehicle on the very wide sidewalk in front of the hotel and unloaded the luggage. During check-in, the hotel takes the car key at the front desk and parks the car for you. Although the parking lot is located immediately behind the hotel, the hotel staff will always park and retreive the car. All of the hotel staff spoke English very well.

The hotel lobby is large and beautiful. There are elegant chandeliers and marble throughout. There is also a large grand piano in the back of the lobby. There are 2 large elevators to take you and all the luggage up to the room. The lobby contains several free German newspapers.

My wife and I were lucky enough to get a room on the top floor, which means we had a large balcony with table and two chairs, as well as a retractable awning to shade the balcony and room from the sun. The room was on the back of the hotel (overlooking the parking area), so we did not have a street or city view, but the balcony made up for it. We were able to sit on the balcony after a long day and enjoy some beers as the sun went down. I recommend requesting a balcony if one is available.

The bathroom and shower are very large and modern. The room itself could use a little updating, but it was clean. There is a new, flat-panel TV mounted to the wall. The room was quite large, leaving plenty of room for luggage. There is also a mini-bar area. The one complaint for the bedroom is the air conditioning (or lack thereof). The supposed AC was more like someone standing in the corner of the room and waiving a piece of paper. There was cool air coming from the vent, but it was not a strong breeze, so it never cooled off the room. In July (when we were traveling) this can be a problem. We were forced to open the balcony door at night, which let in a lot of flies. And since the sun sets very late in the summer time, it takes a while for the room to cool off at night. But the weather always seems to get cool after the sun sets (even during the dog days of summer), so it's not totally unbearable.

The location of the hotel is great for everything Weimar. The hotel itself is on a main street. The city post office (which is very large) is only a couple doors down. Every bus stops along this street. And the hotel faces several pedestrian streets that lead into the main town. There is a grocery store and a drink store (i.e., beer, water, soda) across the street, less than 3 minutes away. You can walk to every major tourist attraction within 10 minutes.

Overall, this hotel is absolutely beautiful and in a great location, and the staff was very nice. The one problem (the weak air conditioning) is probably not an issue most of the year, because typically the weather is fairly cool in this part of Germany.

Traditional service in a traditional town

There's nothing to complain about in this hotel. It's not boutique, it's not grand, but we felt really welcome and looked after with attentive but discreet service and attitude. Different pillows? Magically appeared. Gluten free bread? 'Of course, no problem'. If you don't want the 19 Euro breakfast buffet (it's scrumptious) there are alternatives in the hotel's Viennese cafe. The rooms are mildly spacious, comfortable with good beds, bathrooms very well lit and laid out.

Russischer Hof: to sleep where Turgenev slept....

The hotel was a wonderful juxtaposition of historical beauty and modern convenience...the best of both from the helpful, efficient staff to the great food and clean, comfortable [relatively inexpensive] room. With a hotel this old, you can't expect large rooms, but with the polished wood and brass built-ins, the room wasn't cramped at all. The common areas are particularly beautiful, even the elevators! The staff's English was terrific as was their helpfulness and efficiency. While most German hotel breakfasts are pretty good, theirs was excellent (large assortment of real food, not recycled cheeses as is often the case). All of the major points of interest in Weimar are within easy walking distance. My husband and I tend to demand a lot from our hotel dollars; Russischer Hof exceeded our expectations at all levels. Be sure to check out the old photographs that line the halls. Nice cafe directly across the street where you can read Goethe and drink coffee uninterrupted.

Beautiful Hotel

This hotel is located adjacent to the central shopping, restaurant, and theater center of the city. The property is beautiful with elegant lobby and common areas. The staff was very professional and helpful. The price was quite reasonable for a hotel of this quality.

This is a very old hotel but it has been completely refurbished. The literature in the hotel says that composers Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner have stayed there. It is a beautiful property and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Weimar.

The Best Breakfast in the Northern Hemisphere

Grand Hotel Russischer Hof, Weimar, is spendid in every respect. The rooms are an excellent size, the air-con works wonderfully well, the standard of service is extremely high and the location is first-rate. However, the cherry on the cake is the breakfast - whatever you want from a bowl of cornflakes and a cup of tea right up to cavier and sparkling sekt, they will provide it. We stayed there for 14 nights and had a completely different breakfast every morning - wholesome, wholemeal and healthy one day, bacon and eggs with buttered toast and jam the next, through to Bucks Fizz and smoked salmon as our parting shot! I cannot recommend the Grand Hotel Russischer Hof highly enough - it's better than Gleneagles anyday at a fraction of the cost.

Service beim Frühstück überfordert, räumen Teller nicht mehr weg, man muss Personal hinterherlaufen, wenn man noch einen Kaffee möchte, männliches Personal läuft mit leerem Tablett vorbei, tut geschäftig, nimmt aber nichts mit und fragt auch nicht nach, ob noch etwas benötigt wird. Nachfüllung des Büffets klappte sehr gut. Frühstück vielfältig, vegane Optionen schlecht, vegetarisch mager. Klimaanlage kühlt nicht, Kitchenette mager bestückt, Kühlschrank riecht übel, Bad mini, Bild im im Internet täuscht. Ansonsten alles wunderbar.

Die Lobby ist sehr schön und das Personal sehr freundlich. Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und super.Vom Hotel kann man alle Sehenswürdigkeiten zu Fuß erreichen. Es gibt auch direkt eine Bushaltestelle vor dem Hotel. Das Zimmer ist in die Jahre gekommen. Im Bad war an den Armaturen Rost und die Fugen der Fliesen waren teilweise schwarz. Der Föhn war total dreckig. In der Heizung im Schlafzimmer sammelt sich auch der Staub. Weimar würde ich wieder besuchen, aber in einem anderen Hotel übernachten.
