My favorite hotel in Jena, perhaps even Germany! It truly feels like a home away from home. The rooms are always spotless, comfortable, and have such a welcoming atmosphere that I immediately feel at ease every time I arrive. The staff are wonderful: warm, attentive, and genuinely kind, which makes the stay even more special. The location is also perfect - right in the center of Jena, making everything easily accessible. I always look forward to coming back.

Dorint Esplanade is right downtown Jena, close to everything. The room, and bathroom, was spacious. The staff was friendly. We booked our room with breakfast. The breakfast was great. They had anything you could want for breakfast and if it wasn't on the buffet the staff would get it. We've been going here for years, and the staff is always the same which speaks for the hotel. Will definitely continue coming to Dorint Esplanade.

Booked here centre of town great location , great service however someone has decided to put what I can only describe as plastic mattress toppers on , 1 they weren’t comfortable 2 you moved around and the sheet slipped off they were awful ! I usually spend 3 nights a week in hotels this system ranks along side the worst & most uncomfortable I’ve encountered Whicker everything down - service excellent staff great room good , bed awful

The first few days I was there my room was too hot in the night. When I talked to the people on the front desk I was told that the air conditioning was turned off at night! That’s madness. If made the room too hot for me to sleep well at night and ruined stay in Jena. It was not what I thought I was buying.

Genuinely excellent hotel

Genuinely exceeded my expectations. The architecture is open and airy, which gives a sense of being outside, the deco is minimalist and room spacious, clean and with quality toiletries. The food both for breakfast and dinner was excellent and made of wholesome ingredients however the real strength of the hotel in my view is their staff who seemed to understand my needs and nothing was ever too much. Especially the lady in the moonlight bar who is so welcoming and when you are a solo traveller on a business trip that can make the whole difference.! thank you Dorint

I was disappointed that this hotel lists in its amenities that it is air conditioned. It is not. I will say that the staff was accommodating. When we checked in, we were given a room in a very odd location of the hotel—you must take one lift to get to the second lobby, from there you take a second lift to get to floors 4 and above. We were given a room on fourth floor, we had difficulty finding our room—we had to go through a service door to a small lower entrance that appeared in between floors three and four in a very dark and depressing hallway. The hotel staff did allow us to change rooms. When I asked about how the A/C works in the room, the staff did admit that it wasn’t A/C exactly and attempted to describe what it was exactly. It just air circulation vents that circulate air into the rooms from interior, non-air conditioned common space. Olathe room was clean and comfortable—however having to take the elevators each day I noticed how the outside and inside stainless steel doors and interior walls were filthy! After two full days of seeing the same filth (one of the lifts had something spilled all over), I uncomfortably mentioned it to the hotel staff as nicely as I could, indicating that I’d want to know if I were the manager of the property. The person I spoke with to thanked me and said yes, not acceptable, and immediately called housekeeping. THE ELEVATORS (outside/inside/buttons) WERE NEVER TOUCHED ALL FOUR DAYS WE WERE THERE. This used to be Steigenberger Esplanade and they were top notch in all areas which is why I booked my stay here again for the umpteenth time. We stayed for 2 nights in a beautiful suite overlooking the city center of Jena on the 7th floor. The restaurant staff, which was still Steigenberger staff, is amazing, attentive, polite, and kind. However, the new staff needs training on customer service.The first night we were there the hotel had a fire drill (necessary i get it.) However, there was not one Dorint employee anywhere to tell us where to go. I was there with my mom who is 86 who just had hip replacement surgery. In the amount of time that it took my mom and i to descend the seven flights of stairs, trying to find our way out if there had been a real fire, we would never had made it out. Still no Dorint employee in sight! I must mention that there was a whole family that joined us on our journey to find the escape route so it wasn't just my mom and I that were having these issues. When we finally saw a Dorint employee, he told us we needed to climb all the stairs back up to the seventh floor although the elevators were functioning again! (We took the elevator.) The next morning we had to get up in time for the breakfast buffet. There was no apology for the terrible nights rest. The room was never cleaned although we requested it be cleaned. When we talked to the front desk about this he couldn't have cared less. Nothing was done by Dorint except collect payment.

Steigenberger Esplanade is exceptional. The room was perfect, breakfast superior, and the hostess at breakfast was delightful. Everybody was friendly and helpful and welcoming. The hotel itself couldn't be in a better location. It's within walking distance to the town square all the local restaurants and pubs, and some great shopping! Parking is in the garage and there is always parking available! Do yourself a favor and spoil yourself with a stay at Steigenberger Esplanade Jena. It's definitely it!

A hotel that suffered from COVID. It feels dead in the hotel. The staff was rude when I checked in. And pretty much the place was good for sleeping in, but it had nothing else to offer. The room was clean, but the bed was squeaking. Unbelievable how much the place has declined in a matter of two years. I stayed for four nights, chose not to get the sheets changed to help the environment; but ultimately it felt rather sketchy.

Esplanade: very recommended unique place to stay.

I tried more locations to stay in Jena for my business trips since jan 2019. Esplanade, I have to say, is the best when I compare service, location and the range of services offered including definitely a best breakfast. For my needs specifically also the 24 hour open reception and always available parking, Esplanade is a perfect match on what I need when in Jena at a price that is very competitive. For my needs, definitely a best ratio between quality and service and cost. I wish I had this option for accommodation on other business or private trips in others countries I am visiting regularly as a sales person. Good job Esplanade and fingers crossed for anything to come this special year and years after.

I booked a deluxe room at the Steigenberger Esplanade and was very satisfied with everything. The hotel is very well located, it's elegant and stylish albeit not in an eccentric way. Our deluxe room was huge, with full-length panorama windows overlooking the city. The bed was comfortable, everything was clean and tidy. Good choice and quality ingredients at breakfast. You can ask for an omelette to be made on top of what is already displayed in the buffet. Parking was expensive at 17 euros a night, so I moved my car to a nearby street with free parking. I was, however, able to park for up to 15 minutes while we checked in and took our bags upstairs. Directly next door to the hotel there is a shopping arcade.

It's a nice hotel in the centre of Jena. Perosnally, I found the bed too hard and couldn't sleep well. Also, there seemed no way to control the temperature so I was over-heated at night. Colleagues told me that the breakfast is very good, although I skipped it.

Absolutely fine with no problems at all. The bar is great, some nice cocktails and friendly staff, but perhaps not the cheapest, around 9 euros each. Parking in the basement via a car-lift is convenient but does cost around 17 euros a night and requires some nerves to load a large car in the small lift... The room was clean, spacious, good WiFi, and plenty of sockets to charge appliances. Would stay again (in fact this was the second time) and would recommend to others too.

It was very warm the week I was there. There appeared to be air conditioning, but I'm not sure that it was working. The vent near the ceiling seemed to be blowing out warm air. Opening up the windows helped some... Also, one night, at about 4 in the morning, there was a very loud clanking which sounded like a faulty generator. Thankfully, the primary business portion of my trip was finished by that time so it was not too much of an issue.

All said, I would recommend this hotel.

Glad I was only staying for 1-night! Found the hotel expensive for what was on offer. Air conditioning was non existent. No temperature control in the room, I contacted reception to complain but this made no difference. I had little or no sleep due to the temperature in the room. Windows have a sign saying air conditioning will switch off if opened but at least by doing this got some cool air in the room. Not what would have expected from a hotel of this standard. Do not know if booking through Hotels.com I was given a poor room?

There's a lot of storage space for clothing and a small safe, but no alarm clock or ironing board (for those Americans who anticipate an iron in each room).

Every time I come to Jena, I always stay at the Steigenberger. It's very centrally located, clean and the staff is welcoming. There are few other hotels that compare in terms of its modern facilities. If you are looking for more rustic accommodations, then there are other places you ought to consider. Try out Kardamom - the food is great! Not your standard German fare, but there are plenty of other options for that in Jena.

When I first came to Steigenberger, they offered limited WLAN/Wi-Fi access (2 hours free/day). Over the past year, it has been unlimited, but sooooo slow. This has to change. Modern hotel chains need to offer free, unlimited high-speed internet access to travelers, whether there for pleasure or for business.

If you look for a modern, clean and high end business hotel in the center of Jena you cannot find better. Internet is free but a bit slow. Parking is expensive and a bit cumbersome to reach (via car-elevator) but the best you can do. Breakfast is excellent and they have a nice bar, fitness and Sauna.

problem with the air conditioning

The air conditioning in the room is set automatically through some sort of sensor. When I stayed in the hotel the sensor in my rooms (and at least in some of the other rooms) was not working which meant that air was not flowing. The staff said they were trying to fix the issue but hadn't been able to do so. So you either sleep with the window open and get to enjoy the street noise or you wake up due to the stale air.

Stayed at this hotel for a few nights. It is very nicely located in Jena between the train stations and the main shopping/dining streets. The finishings are nice and the rooms are average sized. The staff was very friendly. My room was very well cleaned by the staff. The only negatives: There was some noise transfer from other rooms and there is no coffee maker in the room.

They really should offer free Wi-Fi like other decent hotels. It seems ridiculous that one has to pay extra for internet access, especially given that this hotel caters mostly to business travelers. Make your money some other way.

The food at Kardamom, the restaurant in the hotel, is fantastic.

Very pleasant and friendly hotel built on the site of an old factory.
Unusual layout slightly resembling a prison but with very luxurious cells!

Except for breakfast the restaurant was closed during the summer holiday season. Breakfast very ample and good.

Only real niggle is the provision of WiFi. 30 minutes per day per person is free but requires new login with new password each time.

Great location and lovely hotel BUT booking confirmed free internet but hotel suggested this was free for 30 minutes only and wanted to charge me 14 EUR for 5 hours internet until I complained PLUS room service charge is 10 EUR (highest I have seen anywhere in the world for this class of hotel). So be careful.

A safe selection.

We stayed at Jena because it is close to Weimar, where the hotels were full. It is a good alternative. It is a business hotel, rates are good on the weekend. A typical four star business hotel. A shopping mall is next door.

Great hotel in central Jena

This hotel is in the center of Jena, adjacent to the university and close to most attractions. Beautiful entry, rooms clean and quite large. Courteous and helpful staff. We would stay here again.
