We really enjoyed our stay! The onsen was amazing, and we enjoyed the Japanese style room. The food was very good both for dinner and breakfast, and had allergens clearly labeled, which was very helpful. We were very satisfied with the value of our stay and I would love to stay here again in the future.

This hotel is quite dated, and it shows in both the rooms and overall atmosphere. However, the traditional kaiseki breakfast and dinner were excellent, offering a wide selection of dishes to choose from. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the rooms, while old-fashioned, were comfortable enough for a short stay.

The garden area seemed not particularly well maintained, which added to the sense of the property being past its prime. On the positive side, the location is convenient—about a five-minute walk to the Ropeway—and there is a shuttle bus available, though I didn’t use it.

The highlight of my stay was waking up to a stunning view of Mt. Fuji in the morning, which was a real treat and made the visit worthwhile.

We had a Japanese style room with a speechless mountain Fuji view,we were lucky to see it clearly both days of our stay. The onsen is well organised,clean,they provide all the amenities. Both breakfast and dinner is buffet with a big variety of Japanese and western dishes,everything is very fresh and good quality. There is a bus from Odakawa station that leaves you 5 min from the hotel.

It was wonderful mostly. There were a lot of visitors who did not understand nor follow the specific etiquettes in enjoying hot springs. The hotel should do a bit more to enforce the rules. Sometimes it was very unpleasant with these visitors.

The choice of food at breakfast and dinner were terrific. In addition, there was easy access to nature trails and a Hakone Ropeway station. My only suggestion for the hotel is to provide a map or information about the trails. I only found them by walking around.

There were some positives to our stay including the view of Mt Fugi and access to ropeway. The hotel lobby and dining area were clean. The hotel room was old, worn and dated. Not what was shown in online images. The onsen had amazing view but the facilities were old and worn. The gardens were overgrown and unkept. There were limited options for basics such as water since there were limited hours for gift shop and lounge.
There was a discrepancy between what was advertised and what we experienced.

I was looking for a Ryokan with breakfast and dinner (half board( included) that has the Japanese spa in the hotel. Although this didn’t have the set dinner I was looking for, the buffet style dinner to me is equally as good with decent selection. We (fam of 4 with 2 teenage kids) stayed in Kai’s ese style room and we were impressed by the size of the room as well as the direct view of Fuji mountain (when it decides to appear). Hotel is 5 min walk to the cable car station and 1 stop from the black eggs. It has shuttle to 2 bus stops too that is convenient. 1 of the bus stop is a 5 min walk too. Overall I loved it. Would recommend.

Stayed for one night with family. Great views of mt Fuji from hotel and onsen. Food at dinner and breakfast very good in quality and range. Windy during stay so no ropeway making access by public transport indirect although not an issue as travelled relatively lightly.

Best buffet. We ate til our hearts content. The bathroom is very outdated and small so our family used the onsen daily, it had a wonderful view anyways.

My friends and I visited Hakone for the first time and stayed here for a night. We were very happy at the end of the stay. We weren't expecting the buffet dinner and breakfast to be included. The onsen was great, couldn't see Mount Fuji from it but got a good view from our room. Overall a pleasant stay

Up in the mountains. Get the Hakone free pass which helps with transportation. We were there for 4 days. Mt. Fuji came out twice and it was majestic. View of mt fuji from hotel is great especially from upper floors. The onsens were clean and relaxing. They provide yukata, casual kimonos, to wear to breakfast and dinner. We wore ours everytime. We rented the traditional tatami room. Futons on the floor was some of the best sleep I've had in months. Highly recommend purchasing the dinner options ahead of time. Delicious choices. We loved the gardens. The path from the ropeway to the hotel could use some work the first 15 meters. Kind of rocky. After that its easy overall and takes about 4 minutes to get there. This is definitely a hotel to come back to. We loved it.

It was an amazing stay! It is tough to get to from Tokyo but they have a 3 day pass that lets you on all the buses,trains,sky lifts and boats that it is seriously worth it. The buffet here is a 10/10 and the robes are amazing. The onset is clean and friendly overall a great atmosphere.

Hotel was easily accessible within a 5 min walk from back of Ubago Station but through uneven terrain. Our only comment is the food quality.

We really enjoyed our time here and people were very helpful. The only issue was that it was a bit confusing to get to the hotel and although there is a shuttle advertised it’s only down the street to the bus station. If we hadn’t called in advance we would not have been informed of how far the shuttle went. They also have some confusing spa and massage therapy information. Their hot springs and food were amazing, though. Really enjoyed our stay.

Staffs were excellent and the level of service was the best I ever experienced. (I am a world traveler). Mt. Fuji view from the outdoor onsen was exceptional. Dining option was good enough for a couple of days. Traveling with Hakone region is a bit cumbersome since the ropeway stops at. The bus stop is Onsenso where the hotel provides a shuttle service to and from. Make sure to have a bus schedule ready. We spend more time on waiting for the bus or train. Onsen is old and outdated but functional. The room requires a significant update. Our group spent very little time in the room, so it was ok. Garden view from the room was great. We chose a Tadami room for an experience, but the Tadami mats were too heavy to fold and unfold every day. We just left it out during entire stay. Bathroom was tiny, but there were many public bathrooms in the building. We end up using a public bathroom in the building and washed at Onsen. Overall, for the price we paid, it was a great stay. I enjoyed all staffs at the facility. They were so helpful and pleasant. For that, I will come back to the Green Plaza Hotel if I visit Hokane again.

We loved the location of the property. We booked a room with a private bath on the patio - and couldn't have been happier. The view of Mt. Fuji from the bath/patio was AMAZING. Our room was quiet, clean and comfortable. The included dinner was extraordinary and service was excellent. We felt like we were in our own quiet little oasis in the evening after the ropeway shuts down. Wish we would have stayed longer.

The hotel has a great potential, location is good once once you are there but arriving to the Hotel is terrible. The free shuttle wasn’t running when we arrived to gondola station and we needed to walk in the middle of an icy road carring our luggage, the most incredible thing is the staff didn’t really care when we got to the reception. The hotel installations are quite old and you have issues with mold all over the place, the corridor had a basket on the floor to colect dropping water from the ceilings, our bathroom was smelling really bad probably due to some sewage leak behind the toilet. The onsen was OK, just like others in the same category, however the views of the Mount Fuji are not that great as you need to stand up and take you body out of the onsen waters to see the it. Also, it is a quite lateral and partial view. So don’t expect great things here. The food was OK and restaurant staff was friendly and helpful. I felt that the food standards were also a bit low compared to other places we stayed in Japan. The worst part was the reception staff, they don’t know how to cater for international guests and they are not willing to help in your way in and out of the hotel if you are not driving your own car. So here is my recommendation, DON’T stay here if you are planning to use Hakone’s public transportation to get hotel. We actually lost 1:30 hours of our itinerary on the way out because they didn’t want to run the shuttle bus 5 minutes earlier to take us to a bus sta

Good and bad experiences here. The best experience was the water quality in the hot spring. Unfortunately we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji from the outdoor tub due to cloudy weather but our skin got so smooth after the bathing. I bought a water cream that they produce there with their water. The location was good and bad. It was a short walking distance to Ubako rope way station. It is the best location if you want to visit Owakudani. However, the hotel is in the mountain. Absolutely nothing around there. We planned to have dinner at a near by restaurant but we ended up with adding the dinner charge to the room and the room rate got expensive after all. Dinner was good buffet style. We stayed in the standard western room. The beds were the worst quality ever! So old and springs were so hard. Our backs were hurting and we couldn’t sleep all night! I slept on the sofa. When I moved sheets to the sofa, I saw tears and rips on the mattress.
Conclusion, I would love to go back for the day use for the hot spring but I will never stay in this hotel unless they buy new comfortable mattresses.

Near to Ubako station which was included in Hakone Free Pass. The route to the hotel from station is not suit for large suitcase as it was a mountain trail kind. We were lucky to be able to see Mount Fuji! Superb view indeed from the garden itself and also the outdoor onsen. Food serve for dinner and breakfast was good with many variety. Ms Lim was of great assistance during our check-in and checkout. It is abit distant from towb but definitely a great place with great view of Mount Fuji. Onsen is small, with only 1 indoor and 1 outdoor pool for ladies.

In-room onsen was amazing. Had to rinse it off first though because it looked pretty worn and had leaves and a few insects in it. No issues though. Felt amazing in the onsen. Way better than having to use the public one and had a great outdoor view of Mt Fuji in the background. Outdoor shower had way better pressure than bathroom shower.

By far one of the worst hotels I have been to. I feel like they are just lacking in a lot of aspects. Staff wise, they’re pretty nice to us. But everything else was just straight upsetting. First off, it said in their website that there was a shuttle bus service. Was pretty much non-existent. I asked if we could get a drive to the Ubako bus stop because I had a lot of luggage. The concierge said yes, just wait outside. I went outside. No one was there so I went back into the hotel to ask. One guy told me to wait 15 mins which I didn’t understand why. In the end, I just walked so I don’t miss my bus. Second, the room was bloody hot. The AC, much like their shuttle bus service, was non-existent as well. It was really
hot and humid. To top it all off, there was a really bad cigarette smell that lingered throughout the night. Also, what kind of hotel has no bath towels in the public onsens?! We gotta use the same one all the time. After a few soaks, the towel is already pretty darn wet come on ...Third, I was sort of expecting different types of baths in the public baths but there were legit only two .. and the one inside smelt like straight up doo doo and pee pee. Not enjoyable at all. One last thing, we had to bring our luggage up ourselves... Typically, the hotel staff would bring it up to our room. This is the first time where we gotta bring it up ourselves. It’s like we pay all this money for them to do nothing at all. Also just left our luggages in the middle of nowhere.

Great experience. A little difficult to get to. Took a bus from the train station for about an hour. They have a shuttle that will pick you up from the nearby bus stop.

They have a buffet restaurant that was excellent. The onsen facilities were also nice, but you can't see the view at night. We saw mt.Fuji early morning on our checkout day. They dropped us off at the lake where you can take a cruise so it's easy to get to the tourist activities from this hotel.

Rooms were clean and comfortable. Very relaxing experience and worth the trip.

The Hotel Green Plaza in Hakone was a mixed bag of emotions.

The good: the welcome is spectacular. Beautiful entry way with a welcome drink as you arrive. Staff is friendly and helpful and the atrium is lovely. In the evening they had a pianist play live in the main hall and the provided buffet breakfast and dinner is pretty decent.

The bad: the room is pretty terrible. While ours was the largest room we stayed in while visiting Japan, it was certainly the most uncomfortable and dated room we entered. The shower was brutal, the beds uncomfortable, and the couch (or maybe futon) looked like it was a prop from That 70's Show.

The rest: You really come to Hakone, and thus the Hotel Green Plaza for one thing: Mt. Fuji and the onsen. The day we arrived, there was a terrible storm and you couldn't see a couple feet in front of you, however the onsen was still terrific. No view, but excellent. However, the next morning the clouds parted, the rain stopped, and the view was magical.

Overall, if the weather is bad and you're forced to stay in your room, you may not be pleased. But, if the skies are clear and the weather is nice, you won't want to be in your room anyways.

We stayed here for 2 nights taking a family Japanese Western room for 4 on 21~23 May. Room was spacious and looks newly renovated. Yukatas are provided and u are encouraged to wear them within the hotel premise for a Japanese experience. Breakfast & Dinner was buffet style with lots of food choices. Would recommend taking it as there isn’t much around the vicinity. The highlight of the stay would be the awesome view of Mt. Fuji, both from the Onsen & Viewing Terrace. To get there from Tokyo, purchase a Hakone Free Pass (HFP). From Shinguku, take the Romance Car (Alight @ Hakone Yumoto). Transfer to Hakone Tozan Railway using your HFP( Alight @ Gora Station). Transfer to Cable Car with HFP (Alight @ Soenzan). Ropeway was closed due to volcanic activity (Level 2). Substitute bus provided for HFP (Alight@ Ubako bus stop) & walk in.

The hotel is outdated and needs a major remodeling. It’s at least from the 70s. The furniture in the room was worn. The bathroom was tiny and old. The room smelled and there was mold in the corner. The dinner buffet was excellent, though. The room had yukata, traditional Japanese dresses, for the guests, which was nice and fun to wear. It’s a big hotel in a remote location. On hotels.com under major amenities “free pick up from train station “ was listed. This is NOT true. The hotel only picks up from the closest bus stop, which is about 1 hour ride from Odawara train station. We stayed one night, which was enough. Would not go back.

Fantastic in room onsen and also public one. Only the dinner buffet options are not quite much. Other than that, everything's perfect! Will definitely come back again !

Fun to get there on the rope way. But don’t bring too much baggage if you plan on taking it. Dinner was good and since there are no nearby restaurants, you should get it there. The onset was nice even though Mt. Fuji was no where to be seen.

It was far from town so you had to take a gondola or bus to get anywhere but the property had its own hot spring which was nice. Dinner and breakfast were included in our rate plan so very convienent.

Great Location. Very short walk to bus and ripeway. Great onsen. Due to weather reason, we did not see Mount Fuji, but still a lovely stay. Will sure to visit again in the future.

This hotel did not honour the Expedia booking that had been paid for. They demanded additional equivalent payment on check-out claiming it hadn't been paid in advance when it had! They need to get their back-end accounting situation in order. Expedia have been helpful in sorting it out though.

Great view of Mt.Fuji from the hotel. Buffet was excellent with great choice. Location was excellent. Only negative is getting in and out of hotel with luggages was hard since you have to use ropeway and cable cars

Relaxing break after Tokyo

Great hotel next to the ropeway maling it an ideal location from which to explore the Hakone area.
Experience onsen baths in the hotel for a real Japanese experience. Only downside was that the hotel effectively closed at 9 PM with no facilities open to meet fellow travellers.

Good location, just a short 3 min walk to the Ropeway. If you have luggage, the hotel can arrange for shuttle to the Ropeway. Wifi is strong and both breakfast and dinner are fantastic!

The onsen was nice and the food was delicious. It was cloudy, so no view of Mt Fuji. A bit out of the way to local attractions, but the hotel did have a shuttle to the ropeway and bus.

Staff was pleasant and helpful. The room was very quiet and clean. It was extremely luxurious with the private bath/view of Fuji. It was a bit away from some of the sights to see but it was easy to get to a bus so big deal there. Staff knew basic english and it was easy to communicate. My biggest complaint is the food was cold the two meals we ate at the buffet. We tried a wide range of western and Japanese foods. It wasnt bad tasting or poor quality. Just cold. And not like it was luke warm, it was cold food. It definitely didnt detract from the experience at all. In fact dressing in Yukata for meals was a fun novelty. Just keep that bit in mind. Compared to several Tokyo hotels we stayed at it was very spacious and luxurious, a bit pricy for what it was but well worth the indulgence for my anniversary.

Perfect oasis in Japan for any reason

What a gem of a place. We loved our short stay here in the mountains of Japan. The hotel has a great view of Mt Fuji which you can see from your room as well as the hotel garden and onsens. The dinner and breakfast was 5 star along with the hotel service. We loved having our own robes which everyone walked around in and we were very comfortable in our spacious traditional Japanese room. The onsens were a great experience and made we made the most of it while we were there. A definite must for everyone on a trip to Japan.

I’m am disappointed in the hotel services provided. We stayed at the western style room and was asked to provide our own bed and linen service. In our time in Japan and various onsen hotels, this was the only one that made us make the beds and prepare linens. Also, our room was not properly stocked with enough supplies for the room. Not enough tooth brushes, towels, and missing linen items. Several trips and phone calls to the front desk needed to be made making the stay less enjoyable.

The resort style hotel serves buffet dinner and breakfast, also like an full-inclusive. The hotel is nicely maintained, clean, and staff are friendly. Even though the cloud completely blocked Fuji on our trip, the hotel truly sit on a perfect location for Fuji viewing. Will return for Fuji next time. The indoor and outdoor Spa are very nice. Good Experience.
