Pleasant and comfortable stay

We stayed at the hotel for 8 nights. The view to the construction site was not the best but it didn’t matter much to us as we’ve been out and about mostly. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Room itself was equipped with all necessary facilities for our stay, noise isolation windows and got cleaned daily. The only downside was the mini bar that did not work properly and we were told by hotel staff that this is how it was suppose to be and offered to store my medications in a fridge at reception. We had daily breakfast buffet included with our stay and we were pleased with food variety and quality. There was a wifi access which had its ups and downs but overall met our needs for checking out maps and general usage, you won’t be able to stream movies though. There was also access to gym and spa , and roof top restaurant above the hotel offered 10% discount for hotel guests. Great hotel location central to all popular attractions and short walk to T1 tram stop. It was advertised as 4 star hotel but I would give it a solid 3, definitely different star ratings to what we used to in Australia. Overall our experience was very good and we would like to thank hotel staff for their hospitality. Worth to mention reception staff speak good English and Russian, not sure about other languages.

Wouldn't return!

Pro's - location is great. They allowed check in early. Has a restaurant on site, which is overpriced and not great.

Con's - TV didn't work. Air conditioning very weak. Bugs that bite! Breakfast, has limited variety. Not enough space around the bed. Requested room wasnt available, even though the room was booked over a month ago. Liased with a manager and had no response. Very disappointing!

When booking it says spa credit, which is very misleading as it doesnt involve a reduction in spa services or even a spa! Welcome drink was a bottle of water, wrong information posted by Hotels.com.

Looking around the area, there are much better hotels, definitely do your research before booking.

One night in Istanbul

A flying visit of 20hrs in the city so I chose this hotel for location near some of the tourist attractions. Arrived late but check in was quick. Was up early and skipped breakfast to go for a run. Came back to find the lock on my room had stopped working. Changed key twice but eventually maintenance had to come. Otherwise a decent stay, if a little lacking in space in the room.

The hotel could do with a litle modernisation and facilities could be improved upon but it was still very decent. Staff were courteous and friendly and it is a clean place. Good value for money. It is quiet and close to lots of resturants, 10 min walk to main attarctions such as Topkapi palace , Hagia Sophia and blue mosque. A minutes walk to Ghulane park. Enjoyed my stay there and would stay again.

Building work being done opposite however only during the day. Breakfast was included and although basic it was still decent and good enough.

Old furniture. Bed sheets were used and dirty when we admitted to the room. We asked for new, they said sorry we are running out of bed sheets and billow cases. Rooms are very narrow. Despite we paid for extra person, no extra bed offered.

Don't book this hotel!Pay attention,the pictures with the rooms are fake.I choose to stay there because I liked the photo with rooms showed on your site .In reality they gave me a room completly different with a horible smell with no sitting area and dinning area as presented in tne photo with very olt towels with strange smell.They cheat people !Horrible brekfast! DON'T book this hotel,there are plenty of nice hotels around that are not cheating people with fake pictures!

The breakfast is very poor. Very bad quality of food and not to mention the 2 only juices they have. Tasted totally terrible. They didn't have umbrellas for our use, the room size was very small compared to what seems to be on the pictures, the pillow were very unconfortablen and the location and surrounding could be better. I booked for the room with spa but my room was canceled. Fortunately they gave a bigger room but with no spa free access. Breakfast fast is good. I have visited spa outside, so don't know about their spa. They arranged covid test for me inside hotel for 200 TRY. They provided transportation to airport Istanbul IST for 500 TRY.

+ Service and workers are very friendly and helpful.
+ Room was wheelchair accissible

- The location is not accissible, its very difficult for cars to reach so you will not have a taxi by hotel door, you always need to walk at least 300 m to reach an area where taxi can be.
- The building is old and rooms decore is old.
- I believe the room price per night is very high compared to the overall experience, same price can be paid for better hotels.

Bad stay - kids were uncomfortable - not recommend

In my 20 years I have stayed in many hotels and this has been the terrible one. The location of the hotel is excellent but difficult to find the hotel if you are in car or taxi as google map keeps you circling around the hotel. No place to park the park. There were only 02 staffs handling the hotel management one at the reception and the other multi tasking. Once you enter the hotel day or evening the lights are never on as if it is going to close any moment. I wasn't given the room i booked and was given some another type of room. Upon request to change the room i was told the hotel is full and you have one of the best rooms. Now comes the best part. I stayed in the hotel for 02 nights, in the best room there wasn't any blankets and we were 4 guests. TV, telephone both were not working. so i had to go down to call them. the next day TV was fixed but unfortunately realised that the remote control have no battery and cover. the room walls were dirty with coffee stins. the small table was faded as if it was never cleaned in its life. the room card key never worked in 2 days as door lock was not working so everytime i go out and come back i had to ask one of their staffs to accompany me. breask fast was terrible. as per hotel.com no spa credit or welcome drinks or morning coffee with pastries or water ever offered. the toilet was very small and not clean. i would never rate this hotel as 4star instead should be no star or one star hotel. its a cheat on the website.

I booked the cheapest room in the hotel and very happy with the size, decor, cosiness, cleanliness and TV with many English news programs. Staff are all friendly and helfpul. Good central location where the shops are and next door to Gulhane Park and near the water. I'm coming back to Istanbul the following week and will definitely be back at this hotel.

Receptionist a cheat, tried to con us but we outsmart them. They say welcoming drink but charged us 20 lira. Really got to be careful. Breakfast always the same can be boring if staying more than one day. I won't recommend this hotel from my bad experience recently

Nice enough

My partner is disabled and we requested a disabled room. Disabled facilities were listed on the Hotel home page and that was the prime reason we chose this establishment. When we got there they didn't have rooms for the disabled so my partner had to go without a shower for 5 days.
The breakfast was great and the lady who ran the dinning room was really sweet.
The reception staff seemed to lose interest in us when we declined their offer to arrange expensive excursions.

A quick trip to Istanbul

This is a very nice compact hotel with very, very nice staff and good facilities. it is near the attractions of the Blue Mosque and the Gullaine park and the markets and many other attractions in this part of the city, its very near the tram stop and has nice bars and restaurants in walking distance.

I had a hire car and as with most areas of Istanbul parking is at a premium. in this hotel parking was arranged very quickly and at a price that wasn't too expensive, in my view, and that was safe and assessable and near.

in my view this hotel is very convenient, comfortable and affordable and if that is what any traveller is looking for then its very easy for me to recommend this hotel.

Great location and a safe choice

We stayed at Gulhane Park for 3 nights in October 2015. Great location and very easy to get to the bazaars, mosques, cistern, Hagia Sofia and well connected if you want to travel further. Simple Turkish places to eat nearby and very quiet, which is good after a day of walking! Heating doesn't work in the winter, so make sure you get extra duvets in the room. Bathroom is clean and the room pretty standard with TV, dresser, mini fridge etc. Extremely helpful hotel manager - Mehmet - who moved us to the 1st floor after we discovered a leak in our room, due to two days of persistent heavy rain!

Some of the hotel facilities such as the sauna and the terrace restaurant were in the process of being refurbished and therefore not accessible to the guests. Tables and chairs were removed from the bedroom for polishing during our stay without notice. A bit uncomfortable. But overall would recommend it to my friends.

Best place in Turkey

Absolutely loved it in Gulhane park Hotel, if it ever return to Turkey, i will look forward to staying here again. Staff were most friendly and absolutely professional. I have contacted them prior to my arrival and they have made sure that my stay were most organized and well coordinated, from pick up from the airport to all the tours around the city. The room was spacious and clean, nothing special but by far more than what I have expected. Their Breakfast was absolutely delicious, with variety of fruits and vegetables as well as hot meals and cereal for guest to choose. Just remembering the time i have spend as a guest in this hotel makes me want to go back there again.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a true middle eastern hospitality and on the budget, no fuss and the hotel offered everything that we could have possibly needed and more.
Location was another plus to the Hotel, in the middle of everything, simply surrounded by little restaurants, gift shops, parks, close to most important tourist attractions, and offer Turkish bath Hammam in the hotel as well.

Beware. The photos of the bedrooms shown can only be of the highest price suite. They are nothing like the standard rooms, which are small and do not even have room for two suitcases. This hotel is small and at best of average average quality and is way oversold by the photos. It overlooks a patch of derelict land. The staff were polite and helpful but their English was not good.

We hit the spot with a central location close to all the important historic sites, trams, train and buses. Most are within walking distance Staff were most helpful and the breakfast was traditional Turkish , fresh and plent of choices. The street , although in the old city , was relatively quiet compared to most other streets surrounding us. Complimentary tea bags only complimentary on the 1 st night which we found odd ! Cheap laundry can be done around the corner within a few hours ( ask at the front desk ) and if you want a freshly squeezed cheaper juice Johan the hotel , walk up the street to the corner and you will find one for 1 lire. Wifi was free and good. Overall good value for money.

The hotel was everything we expected and in many was far better. For our budget traveling it was great, we followed some of the previous reviews. The staff was very nice and helpful. Got to breakfast early, arranged for tours with them as well as shuttle ride to airport. We were there for three days and wanted to experience Istanbul not the hotel. Breakfast had some traditional Turkish food which we enjoyed. One thing to point out is the eating area on the 5th floor is not were BF was offered, but you can still go to sit up there (we ask reception to bring tea up) and the view is amazing toward the park. Location, location, location - walking distance to major attractions, great restaurants and plenty of shopping.

Warm welcome late at night, and great service from all staff. Superb location for Topkapi, Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque and Basilica Cistern and tram stops. Just a shame there isn't room in the double rooms for a comfy chair - only a pouffe in ours!) and the chair at the internet desk is excruciatingly uncomfortable. The terrace was out of use until the last couple of days of our stay so there was nowhere to sit out and relax until then. The spa could do with a makeover and a clean - I was the only person in there and yet there were empty shampoo bottles scattered around. But, the food was excellent, the hotel gave value for money and is ideal for visiting Istanbul.

This hotel is not 4stars lol no where near! It's not even one! First of all our flight was delayed... So they have away our room! They put us in a another room saying they would change it the next day... Next day now they said they didn't have any rooms! So we would stay In the room we were in... Our friend wasn't alowed in our room at all! Until he payed 90tl even though he wasn't staying... This happened a lot!!! On our last day they woke us up!!! We were pretty tired and hangover so they could move us!! Lol because they needed the room... No apology apparently they did us a favour by letting us stay in that room! Even though it was horrid' the view is the worst thing in the world .... Staff rude! Not helpful... We tried the breakfast once ......,,..... Bad bad bad! I wouldn't go bk here again EVER! This should not be advertised as 4star as that is the biggest scam ever! Don't stay here..... Just don't do it I hardly stayed here as I had friend that lived in turkey and still when ever I went there to change there was always something! The spa looks gross and dirty! Oh and the free cocktail is orange and cherry juice... No alcohol and your room you only get comp coffee and water for the first day after they charge you... And the minibar smelt of gone off milk.... Horrible, the only good thing the location perfect location!

First Stop of European Family Holiday

What a great way to start our trip? We get collected from Ataturk Istanbul airport at 7:30am Sunday morning (there is a fee) and driven to Gulhane Park Hotel. Greeted by the charming Hale at reception and then the owner/manager Soner. They stored our luggage so we could look around Istanbul and check in at 2pm. Had a quad room on level 3. Room not huge but if I can travel with two twenty year old boys and wife then it was fine. It was clean, warm, high pressure water for shower. My family enjoyed it. Don't worry about a view out the window because it may mess with your mind but the moment you step out the little lane way and walk 200m to the tram line going past shops of the locals all of a sudden you see that the location to most of the historic sites is so close to you. We enjoyed the turkish breakfasts provided, there was a lot and varied and a very lovely eating area. If you are only interested in American and British style breakfasts then this will not suit you ..... remember you are in Istanbul !! For the five nights we were there, the assistance provided by Hale was fantastic. There was nothing too big or too small for her to solve. When Soner was there the same can be said about his experience and helpfulness. So what is the bottom line? It is a safe location, 24hr desk service, good for a family, English speaking, helpful staff and if we ever return to Istanbul then we would stay at the Gulhane Park Hotel.

Avoid at all costs

Beware of fake comments!
1- Hotel is located in a very inconcienent location, taxis cannot get there between 10AM and 12AM, you have to walk for 300 meters to get to your hotel with your luggage.
2- I booked a double bed and 2 single bed room, I was given a double bed and 1 single bed only, they said they other room wasn't available and that the booking agency made a mistake.
3- Hotel Breakfast is a joke, it ha very few options, with only boiled eggs, no omelets or a decent cereal!.
4- Burger ordered from room service was one of the worst I had ever!
5- Bed blankets consists of only bed sheet, no blanket what so ever.
6- Hotel staff would try to sell you tours, if you do not agree, they will not be very helpful in teaching you how to get their on your own.
7- I lost my access card, and I spent the last 2 days calling the receiptionest to unlock the room for me because their card access system is not working properly!
8- Given the circumstances, I ordered an early check out and moved to a 5 star hotel. I ordered a partial refund but the hotel refused!

Beware do not book this hotel!

Gulhane Park Hotel had it all

We had a superior triple room for 7 nights and during our stay our room was maintained to the highest order. The staff were always ready and willing to help, assist and advise on any subject we asked about in relation to where/what to see and directions there. The breakfasts, whilst obviously geared towards Turks, was well presented and there was always something for us westerners to eat!! The gym is small for any fanatics but certainly perfect for moderate use if required. The sauna, Turkish bath and massage were great. Some may be put off initially by the hotels location opposite a derelict site but remember you are in the old city!!!!!! and right beside the lovely Gulhane park. The location could not have been better within walking distance of Tapkapi Palace, Archaeological Museum, Blue Mosque, Reggia Sophia and the Bazaar. Plenty of restaurants around and about. We are very well travelled people and expect the highest standards from our accommodation so we were very pleased with the Gulhane Park Hotel. We would send our nearest and dearest friends and family to this hotel and city. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Not what I expect from a 4* Hotel

The hotel looks and sounds better in theory. The staff are not very attentive or friendly. In fact at times you can feel like an inconvenience to them.

For a 4* hotel the facilities are very limited. It is described as a Hotel and Spa, however, there is no such spa and it remains closed unless you pre-book an appointment. Also the treatments available are so limited that I wouldn't even call it a spa.

I was rather disappointed with the hotel. There is a cleaning service every day but they do not change the sheets - just fix them up every morning. The cups and glasses provided in the room are washed in the bathroom sink rather than replaced - not very hygienic. Also the drainage system is not very good neither is the extraction system in the bathroom. This causes the room to smell a lot.

However the location of the Hotel is good and there is easy transport links to the main points of interest. Also looking at the hotels around the area this seems to be the better choice. But for the price I do expect better customer service.

I would recommend this hotel but not because I think it's very good but because I don't think there is a better choice in the area.

A good choice - definitely stay again.

A return to Istanbul for 2 nights at end of trip we chose this hotel online. Very easy to find - get off tram at Gulhane Park and look downhill. Very quiet location as in lane away from main road. Great location, can walk to most places or get tram. Staff very helpful and good English spoken. Room very spacious as is bathroom. Breakfast is fine. Good value as we got a 40% off deal.

The experience i had in this hotel was amazing. The service was perfect. Room was clean and very comfortable. Train station is just 50 m far from hotel. Very near to Blue mosque and Haji sofia. They are many amenities around. The breafast was really good. I remember all good things about this hotel and i would suggested for everyone.

Very good value hotel in excellent location. 3 rooms booked - problems with shower in one room and we could have moved if necessary. Staff tried their best but
language barrier difficult to overcome (their English much better than my Turkish!).
Roof top terrace not open for meals in March but able to take in the magnificent views.
Overall, happy to recommend this hotel.

- room was a little musty
-although breakfast was included, hotel charged 4L for fresh orange juice even though I later noticed a sign stating the juice was 2L, and the staff was very insistent that you pay for the juice when served

Our exp with hotel manger was very bad.they are there just to milk money. I have to pay extra 75 € for three days for my 5 year old child. One local call cost 23 lira and no explaination offered. Rooms are ok but no where 4*.

Long weekend in Istanbul

The Hotel was ideally located to enable us to walk to all the attractions we wanted to visit.
As we arrived it was suggested that the next day would be a good day for a cruise on the Bosphorus, we are really glad we took the advice and paid for this trip as it was more than our expect ions.
The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The breakfast, whilst appearing to offer many choices, was not to our taste, and was disappointing.
A plug for the sink would save the Hotel a lot of hot water.
All in all our stay at the Hotel Gulhane Park was very enjoyable.

Perfect for Istanbul Introduction

We stayed here as part of a four day package. The room was small but could not be faulted on cleanliness or facilities even had we paid twice the price. All the staff were polite, friendly and helpful, the buffet breakfast was excellent with a selection of both Western and Turkish cuisine to sample. The hotel could not be better placed for easy access on foot to most of the 'must see' sites in Istanbul. In addition there are also many excellent restaurants within close walking distance of the hotel as well as that of the hotel itself.

Tea and coffee making facilities are provided but our experience was that there was just enough for two days. We had been pre-warned and had taken our own tea bags and coffee, If you like milk with your tea or coffee you will need to buy a small carton from the shop across the road (there is a mini-bar fridge so it will keep OK in there)

Hotel is situated on the best possible place in Istanbul. You are in the middle of everything. Close to Aya Sofia, Bazar, Kapali, overlooking Asia and bridge, spice market, and everything else. Comfortable Stay

The hotel and the staff were very welcoming and were on hand whenver needed. The internet was awful! Barely able to connect to any websites. The air conditioning is switched on and off centrally but can control the intensity in your room. There was an issue with the lock on our door and staff were often let themselves in thinking we were not there. The free massage offered with our booking is actually a mechanical massage - very disappointing. Was a great location in a quiet sidestreet approx 5-10 minutes walk from SultanAhmed and 2 minutes away from the main tram line. I would come back there again.

I booked this hotel half a year ago and the status was clearly 'confirmed' but as I arrived there they transferred or more correctly 'sold' me to another cheaper hotel next door with no window ,no complimentary drinking water , no kettles , no free assess to gymnasium etc. which they had promised to give us . we are very disappointed and I think we should blacklist this hotel.

The Hotel room very small and the bed not comfortable, the TV screen very small ( about 19 inch), no bthtub, they don not change dailly the twoels and they do not put shampoo unless you asked them to do so, the view of the room not good,the breakfast they are using the remaing items which not eaten on the previuos days (e,g the egg, cack,..etc) and these items should be dailly changed with new one
the massage and fitness room not good even there was offer to give us free massage but noting done
i don not beleive that this is a 4 star Hotel it is maximum 2 star hotel

DRAB AND DISAPPOINTING

On the first night when we arrived we were subjected to two hours of hard sell during our meal ( which was very poor) to purchase trips, future meals or spa sessions. We declined all and from that time onwards we were treated almost with contempt. They do not replace either tea bags ( 2 in room on first night) or toilet rolls in the room even when you ask for them. The rooms are drab and smelly and the bathrooms are cleaned very limitedly.This hotel is not a 4 star in any sense of the word and it would be lucky to get 3 stars at home. Be advised that the staff are extremely unhelpfull if you show no interest in their sales offers. NOT VALUE FOR MONEY.

Best holiday of my life!

My friend and I spent 10 days at this hotel during September 2012. What really makes this hotel higher in my regard than any other is the quality and attentiveness of the staff. All of the staff were helpful, polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. We stayed on a B&B basis, although we did have several meals in the restaurant. Breakfast was a positive feast with every kind of sweet and savoury dish (many of which I had never heard of) in addition to the usual cereals and toast. Being a buffet, one could re-visit the various dishes as often as one wished. We had both lunch and dinner at the hotel and again the food was delicious, served with courtesy and was very reasonably priced. We spent several delightful hours sitting on the roof terrace drinking turkish tea and being treated like royalty.
The location of the hotel couldn't have been better, within easy walking distance, or by using the 3tl tram, we were able to visit the Grand Bazaar, Topkapi Palace, and the Yerebatan Cisterns all absolutely fascinating. Also easy to walk to was the Spice (Egyptian# Bazaar and the Hagia Sophia and the entrance fees are a snip at between 10 and 20 tl #£3-£7#.
We took two boat trips on the Bosphorus, a daytime one which pointed out all of the beautiful sites of the city and the night time which was great fun with traditional turkish dancers and a belly dancer, both well worth the cost of around 50euros.
Do try the local restaurants, the food is made of delicious fresh ingredients and light sauces, with plenty of vegetarian options for those who don't enjoy tender lamb or moist chicken and fish. Prices vary vastly, with dinner for two ranging from £20 to £60 #not including wine) and I have to say the quality is not based on price.
If you're looking for a quiet holiday this is NOT the place to go. Shops and restaurants are open until the early hours and the place is buzzing all of the time.
As you can probably tell, we can't wait to return to this lively, fascinating and fun city.

Clean. Great location near bazaar, blue mosque, hagia Sofia.
Restaurant is ordinary but there are many choices within a block or two. This is a friendly place and a good base for seeing the sights. Tram stop right up the street, or short walk to star attractions.

Good Hotel, but a pity about their rules

I spent two nights out of 5 at this hotel. When my friend arrived on the second morning at 8.30 a.m. he was not allowed to visit my room. \"Hotel Rules\". I was told that it was the rule in all hotels in Turkey. I left the hotel and moved to another where this rule was not part of their welcome to me. The hotel refused to make a refund to me. Friendly enough staff, but unreasonable rules. Close enough to walk to and through the Old City. Lots of restaurants close by.

Good location, walking distance to main historical places, tramway station close to the hotel.
Clean room, quite spacious - 3 beds room. Average breakfest, limited choice. We had tea pot in the room, but not tea bags refilled during the stay. Complimentary drink was one bottle of water for each person, and they tried to charge for it at the end of stay.
TV set was not working due to complicated controll of two remote controllers.
Person at the desk not very helpfull.
Good location, but price higher than services.
Do not expect 4 star hotel according west europe standard.
