It's a very large hotel, but the rooms have definitely seen better days. The air conditioning in the rooms is quite poor and we found several loose electrical wires poking out of the walls (hopefully not connected, but we avoided just in case)
Our initial room had balcony doors that couldn't be closed, leading to an early wake up thanks to the building site next door. The reception staff were helpful, offering alternatives, some with similar door problems, but we did eventually end up with a room that, while not exactly quiet, was at least better than the first.
Noise aside, the rooms were large and comfortable, breakfast was good and very varied and the hotel is in a pretty decent location.
We tried the hotel restaurant one night, too and were very happy with the food.

Spacious, comfortable room and bed. Great big desk to work at. I would stay again for business. I waited a very long time to check in because staff at reception let people push in front of me, which was stressful. But the staff were otherwise very nice and helpful. Good little gym, nice big pool.

We came for a business meeting. After check in we found out that carpet is dirty or burned. For our goal in our limited time we did not have time to complain. Upon check out we found out that parking has been deducted from our card RM 50, even though upon check in and out we clarified it with receptionist that we have a car and staff confirmed that after validating our card we scanned at car park, parking fees will be RM 5 only and we did validate the card. After check out the car, they deducted RM 50 and asked us to send email to the duty manager, and will be refunded after 45 days. How funny you easily take the money and takes 45 days to refund us,

The hotel is very very worn out with dilapidated facilities. Some amenities were cringe worthy, and adding to this was mould, stains n broken appliances. To top it up, the service was inconsistent, not meeting minimum hospitality standards . The saving grace was the good breakfast spread n helpful staff.

We were upgraded to a suite by the events coordinator. The space was ample , with a kitchen, living room, large bedroom, bathroom with a shower and a tub, and a large balcony with seating. All the furniture was comfortable, but the room was somewhat dated. The restaurant was terrific, and breakfast was wonderful. Staff members were friendly and helpful. The common areas of the hotel were beatiful and quite grand. However the guest rooms could use some updating.

Second visit this year, which was not as good as the first. Insufficient towels. The sink was old, repainted and distressed. Shower valve difficult to control as it tended to shutoff by itself. No coffee supplied and fridge didn't work (had to be replaced). Maintenance responded fairly well. We liked the location, very convenient to the Pavillion. The staff was always friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fair. The staff was a bit overwhelmed by a very large contingent of tourists converged for Rotary convention. We have always enjoyed our visit to the Royale Chulan, which provides excellent service and value. We would return again.

A wonderful experience. Our third time here. Reasonably priced, excellent food and service, especially the staff at the Heritage Club for our Valentine celebration. Chef Melvin and Manager Daniel saw to every detail to make our evening run smoothly and deliciously. The breakfast staff was right there at our service; they were very courteous and helpful, which made our breakfast experience very enjoyable and relaxed. Our credit to management for maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction and genuine service. Bravo!

The hotel is about a 10 min walk from the Pavilion mall which is fine if you want to eat in the food court or you can walk outside the mall for more restaurants. The hotel does not serve alcohol and we found it a little inconvenient to have to walk that far when we would like to relax with a beer in the hotel. This wasn't mentioned on the details on Expedia, otherwise we may have chosen somewhere else to stay. The lounge area in the hotel is fine but a little soul less, you can get a soft drink there, however a can of sprite is about £4 GBP which is extremely expensive compared to anywhere else in the area. They could perhaps offer a range of non alcoholic cocktails to make it a more appealing venue and attract more guests. The pool area is lovely for a dip. The hotel also charges a tourist tax of 10 myr per night which was not mentioned in the hotel details on Expedia either.The rooms are tired and the air con is very noisy but effective. The bed was very comfortable but we could hear our neighbours through the thin walls. Buffet breakfast was very good too. Overall not a bad hotel, and good value for money but it has so much potential to be better.

We have stayed at the Chulan for years. We find the location is great as we can park and then walk everywhere we want in Bukit Bintang/KLCC. The rooms could use some tlc. One this visit we had to ask for a replacement refrigerator as the freezer door was gone and we had food that needed to be kept frozen. Then all the hall lights in the room had to be replaced as they had burnt-out. the safe was not working again. This seems to be a problem as our last 2 stays, the safes in the rooms were not working. It was too much of a hassle to get them fixed/repaired. The staff do their best and are kind and friendly. I just wish maintainace in the rooms were a bit better. We enjoy our stays and will continue to visit the hotel during our stays in KL.

Great stay at this hotel. Perfect location, 5 minute walk from the Pavilion mall and 10 minutes from the heart of Bukit Butang, but far away enough from the noise and business. Hotel itself was clean and the room was great. Large bed, very comfortable. Huge fridge with a replenishment of water each day. Bathroom was huge too. The breakfast buffet was the best ive been to - stay at this hotel just for this! 9 different stations so the variety of food to choose from is great. The options changed slightly each day too which was exciting. So much and very tasty and freshly made. Incredible fruit, omelettes made to order, indian area, veg cooked on the grill for you, ramen station, pastry/bakery, salad, huge choice of hot and cold drinks. Really recommend.

Beautiful hotel full of friendly and attentive staff. The facilities are a bit dated but in good working order. The location is not ideal for those who want to walk to shops or public transport as it is about 10 to 15 minutes walking away from other restaurants or shops. But in good weather the walk is pleasant though some might find it a bit intimidating after dark (I encountered no issues).

It’s 5-star but only the exterior, the interior is more like 2-star condition. Moldy bathroom, peeled wallpapers, old 720i TV, barebone gym facility.

It’s in Bukit Bintang, the center of downtown KL, but it takes an 11-minute walk to the closest convenience store, or 12 minutes to the closest MRL station. That’s inconvenient.

Well, you get what you pay for. True 5-star hotels in Bukit Bintang costs almost twice as much.

Great buffet but showing its age

The hotel must have been excellent once, it’s showing its age. My couch had rips in the leather, paint peeling in the halls. The breakfast buffet was amazing but the other in house restaurants were closed. The hotel is dry now, no notice that bar was closed. My bed and pillows were very comfortable but the A/C was on maximum everywhere using lots of energy and making the indoor spaces very cold.

The staff really make this hotel great! All the staff are wonderful including the conigrees (who arranged taxis, tours, luggage collection and delivery to the rooms), the door staff, receptionists, cleaners, waitress and waiters. They are amazing as they are all polite, friendly and helpful. Although the rooms are nice and spacious but they do need a deep clean in corners and around the edges of the room and there were a few stains on the carpet. The corridors and room doors could do with a newer coat of paint but overall good choice of hotel. I would stay at this hotel again just for the staff and the food is also excellent plentiful with lots of choices for breakfast. The main reception, restaurants and pool give a 5 star feel but rooms are more 4 star.

Definitely NOT a 5* hotel. The public areas are classy and well presented. However the bedroom we initially had was dated and tired.

Also the shower didn’t work properly and a bedside lamp was clearly dangerous with the inline switch missing and replaced with some loosely fitting insulation tape.

It took two asks to get the shower working and I eventually had to take the lamp down to reception . Clearly guest safety is not a priority here.

In the bathroom seals were brown as was grout around the bath

After two nights we went out on our third day coming back to find the toilet deposited with waste that came from another room. Flushing it didn’t make it go away.

We went out for the evening and they assured us it would be fixed while we were out. We got back at 11pm to find that it had not been attended to.

The reluctantly placed us in a much better room after. However we had already had two nights out of the four in a wholly substandard room.

The breakfast buffet was intensive but much often cold.

This all placed a complete taint on our 4 days in Kuala Lumpur.

I could not recommend this hotel.

In its time this must have been a beautiful hotel. Now it is in need of some TLC (tender loving care). The bedroom and bathroom were both very large and bright, carpet looked very thin and was stained in parts, but slippers are provided. Air con was only good on main reception & restaurant floor. The hotel was looking a little tired and in need of some tlc, but staff were very helpful and very friendly. Breakfast varied and plentiful.

This hotel is NOT 5 star-it used to be but unfortunately standards have deteriorated. Restaurants have closed with only two remaining-three or four have closed-don’t be persuaded with the foyer photographs as this hotel needs refurbished. My wife was bitten by mosquitoes 30 times in our bedroom. If you like alcohol don’t come here as there is no alcohol served.

Great hotel, opposite Conlay station so easy to get around KL. Room was large with large bathroom. Breakfast was a very extensive buffet. All staff I dealt with were friendly and helpful. Got there late on our first date so had a meal and a few beers in their club room which was reasonably priced and very tasty. Definitely recommend!

The room was spacious, bed comfortable, big bathroom with rain shower and a handheld sprayer with small kitchenette. Had a rental car and parked for free under hotel. Breakfast buffet international and tasty. Stayed here also b/c short walk to Petronas towers (definitely worth buying tickets to go up on elevator, good senior citizen discount) and incredible shopping center with great variety of restaurants. It was mostly high end stores yet fun to browse. Staff extremely helpful and word of caution, if you arrive by car… go to B2 level of basement. It’s not clearly
marked….I told the management it would be helpful for guests.

I needed somewhere to sleep for one night after a long journey to KL from London, and the price was reasonable. The room was quiet, big and clean. The bed was comfy. The bathroom was large and clean, with a separate bath from the shower. The bath was handy for me to soak away the muscle aches I got from the travel. Maybe next time I might stay longer.

Stayed here as we had a dinner function at the hotel.
When we first entered our room the veranda doors were open, consequently there were loads of mosquitoes in the room.
There was no hot water. Aircon was working but the ceiling fan could not be adjusted. Did not use the cooking facilities that were provided so unable to assess the equipment.
Breakfast was quite good - the hotel was fully occupied so the dining area was crowded. The set dinner that was served during the dinner function was very good.
Overall the hotel is looking its age and needs some refurbishment.

We have stayed at the Chulan many times over the years. It offers a great location, interesting architecture in the common areas. However the hotel as become a bit tired. Many of the rooms could use an upgrade. The lower parking areas could benefit more lighting. Our room was missing hand towels and faceclothes. For some reason our call to housekeeping was not responded to. We did not bother to try again as we were there for only one night. The lobby staff were extremely helpful. They assisted us on a number of locations in obtaining Grab rides and taxis. Kudos to them.

The Royale Chulan is starting to get a little bit dated. The lobby is still impeccable. The age starts to show in the carpet with some stains and on the wooden doors, which look a little worn. Overall the hotel is very well kept. The rooms are spacious with firm beds. Breakfast is excellent, with many different Western, Malaysian, and Chinese offerings.
What I love about the hotel is the pool and it's location. The pool is very large and expansive. It gets sun from about 10am onwards but there are sufficient umbrellas around the pool that you can stay out of the sun if you want. This is one of the few hotels in this area that still has some semblance of grounds around the hotel. It isn't crammed in between high rises and still has a little bit of green space around it. And it's a short 5 minute walk down Jalan Conlay to the Banyan Tree and the skywalk to the Pavilion Mall. It actually feels like a little bit of an oasis amongst the other high-rise hotels around it.

My stay was from Jan 31st to Feb 3rd. Check-in took 15 minutes, staff did not know what she was doing. Just pacing around for paperwork.

Got to room on the 5th floor, premier room. Was a corner room that had a patio looking down to the swimming pool. Room was big and spacious. A/C unit was loud even on the lowest. Towels were missing. Mini bar was non existing. Shower head hose had a gaping hole. Called service desk to get it fixed. No one came. After an hour we left the hotel to explore the surroundings.

Construction surrounds the entire property. No direct route to get onto main road. Had to use a man made hidden back end staff entrance.

Got back to room around 9pm. Called service desk again to have shower head hose replaced. No show. Called again at 930pm and the person that answered yawned as if I woke him up. Took another 30 minutes before maintenance personnel came expecting to fix a leaky toilet. Took another 30 minutes for him to get the right parts and change the hose. This should have not taken 2 hours to fix!

Following day, called service desk for razors. Never got razors. Had to go down to front desk and complain just to get razors.

Breakfast buffet is all halal food. Noodle station is self service as in you cook it yourself. Flies are all over the salad bar and food. Staff is joking around and punching each other in the arm. Really? in a 5 star hotel?!?!

Maybe 10 years ago this hotel was a 5 star hotel. But in 2020, this is considered a 3 star hotel.

How does hotels.com communicate Gold VIP benefits to your booked hotels? Answer, not well. Booked a second stay at RC and at first got a dated \"superior\" room. Dirty carpet, sink slow to drain, bathroom with no privacy behind wooden slats. Thanks to Royale Chulan management our room was changed to deluxe. Charming property in good location with excellent breakfast.

After reading the reviews for this hotel I almost cancelled my reservations. Yes, they need to up their game especially housekeeping. Yes, they need to put a bunch of money into remodeling. I am sure the hotel was quite luxurious at one time. But I enjoyed my stay here. I was upgraded to a junior suite thanks to Expedia gold membership. The room was huge. The pool was large and nice. There is no longer a view of the twin towers from the hotel. The gym was tiny but adequate. The club lounge is very nice and not many people choose to use it. It has several different styles of seating and was a nice place to have a glass of wine and watch a movie in the evening. I had read a review that said there was no alcohol served and was disappointed but there was wine and several kinds of cocktails. The hotel is very conveniently located but with the construction going on it is tricky to get around but not a horrible problem. I had also read reviews of a bad breakfast with not much variety. This was also not true when we were there. There is a huge variety of Western or local foods for breakfast. All in all the Royal Chulan was a nice stay for the price.

Their rooms were spacious however, this hotel requires some renovation, as is a bit old as compare to other hotels in vicinity. Carpet and toilet were found with obvious staining. House keeping service a bit slow.

The location was good. Actually we used Grab most of the time. 10min walk to the Raja Chulan Station. Staff was helpful. However, the hotel was kinda old. The air-con was way too cold. Very old TV with low resolution. The light of the wardrobe was insensitive. Everything felt old. As a 5-star hotel, it was disappointing. Overall, I had a great trip in Kuala Lumpur.

The pillow covers and bed sheet has blood stain on it. We called to change and they did but didn’t have the right size .
But staying royal chalun over all was not bad. Good friendly staffs and excellent breakfast

Big room, comfortable stay and birthday upgrade

For celebrating birthday here we received a room upgrade and were served some cake and a fruit basked. That was very nice. The room was very spacious and had a nice balcony. We liked the big bathroom a lot and the bed was very comfortable. The service was also very nice but the hotel needs some better maintenance. For example the food menu is very worn and doesn't look presentable anymore.

First the good: the staff and management were to notch. They were very accommodating and offered a true 5 star experience. Now the bad: outside of the first floor, the rooms were run-down: faded paints, caulking with mold, and lower luminosity light bulbs to help reduce the likelihood of noticing it. And now for the terrible: our room appeared to been used by a different guest and then made up to appear as if everything was clean and fresh: the bed sheet had a large stain on it (it didn't appear to be human fluids, but perhaps food), the skirt on the bed had a stain on it, the rug had stains on it, and the pillow cover looked as if someone with greasy hair had slept on it. My wife said she thought the toilet appeared unclean (I didn't see it but take her word for it). Fortunately, when this was brought up to management, they quickly addressed all of the issues, and followed up to insure everything was to expectations.

Excellent stay! We were given a free upgrade upon check in which was greatly appreciated :)

The staff were exceptionally friendly, fab location and the buffet breakfast was huge and delicious.

Would highly recommend this hotel.
