I had a mixed stay.

The good? The staff are lovely overall.
The property & gardens are beautiful. Breakfast was delicious.

The bad? Unfortunately my room wasn't ready at check in time, which I usually wouldn't be upset about apart from having paid a high rater due to it being holiday season. Skeleton staff was to blame (due to the holiday season) but in my opinion if you're not able to accommodate guests don't charge them top dollar, OR limit the number of rooms on offer, OR at least call the guests in advance to let them know the time their room will be ready, given that you ask the ETA of arrival. I did receive a glass of bubbles on the house due to the inconvenience and I certainly wasn't upset with the front desk agent who was very apologetic as this is more a managerial problem.

Once I did get access to my room (90 minutes later) I discovered I didn't get the room type I booked. I got an accessible room, which was one of the categories of rooms on offer at time of booking. I don't like accessible rooms so I chose the standard guest room. If the only option was accessible I would not have booked to stay here. This may be an Expedia issue rather than Spicers issue however I highly recommend calling ahead to ensure you'll get the room type you've booked.

Spicers for the win

A wonderful stay at Spicers. Beautiful property, with professional staff who genuinely seemed happy working there and were superb in looking after us. Great food at the Long Apron, short stroll to town and wonderful scenery meant we had a peaceful and enjoyable stay.

Outside at night black, no lighting in car park, unable to see where path was. Lights were facing the trees!!!!. Noticably lighting was along the entire pathways at front unit of retreat. Needs to be rectified.

Difficult to find reception after being told to park down the back.
Advised that complimentary bubbles would arrive to the room and never arrived.
Room 8 - complete lack of privacy - people walking past on joint verandah and socialising directly outside the room.
Room smelt faintly of mould and lack of privacy prevented opening for fresh air.
Fridge walm and mini bar options not an option due to being too warm.
Forgotten in restaurant for breakfast order.
Remote for TV did not work.
Curtains did not close properly which led to crack of light in room.

Such a lovely relaxing stay at spicers. It’s very quiet and feels very secluded in a little garden setting. We had two fantastic meals at the Long Apron and the staff were warm and welcoming. Only minor disappointment was that there was no balcony to our room, so nowhere to sit for our morning coffee. Other than that everything was delightful.

Fabulous hideaway

I stayed with my wife. The room was so lovely, comfortable and also very clean. The amenities are beautiful. We’re also happy with dinner at the long apron as well as breakfast.
The lady at the reception was very friendly and made us feel comfortable.
We enjoyed the beautiful lake lookout and garden as well.
Would like to return again!

Spicers Clovelly located in a picturesque location of Montville with spectacular Mountain View’s and lush, fragrant gardens. The French provincial decor and rooms were that were beautifully appointed with thought into every detail provided livery and comfort. The staff were amazing, friendly and accommodating, it felt like home away from home, we didn’t want to leave!

Clovelly was a lovely escape from the world for a couple of nights. Our room, a spa suite was spacious and comfortable with a beautiful view. Facilities in the room are what you would expect at this level.
The hotel has lovely spaces around for quiet contemplation, or a feisty game or two, it's up to you. We walked down to the deck overlooking the lake, a tranquil place but reached via a steep pathway best down in trainers or walking shoes.
The food at the Long Apron was delicious, the only negative comment would be that the menu is so limited that you couldnt really eat there night after night. The wait staff were friendly, knowledgable and made the evening feel a little bit special, matching the food in their exceptionality.
Breakfast was lovely, with a great selection served overlooking the garden. Tuesday's staff were wonderful, weds seemed a little preoccupied, but the kitchen staff stepped up to deliver food and provide a happy smile and friendly words.
In all, a beautiful place for a few days away from the pressure of the world, we used it to access walking tracks in the Great Walk through the Sunshine Coast hinterland, and the contrast between pampering and raw rainforest was rejuvenating.

The Perfect Couples Getaway

The Easter weekend away for my wife's birthday and it was perfect.
The room was lovely and comfortable.
The grounds are peaceful and relaxing.
The staff are all very helpful and the service was some of the best that i have experienced and could not be faulted.
The restaurant the Long Apron was absolutely wonderful from the drinks at the bar to the table service and then the food it was fantastic.

nice hotel for one night stay

We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel, check in direct to the room, no filling out forms. showing credit cards etc.. Lovely gardens and pool although getting in and out of the pool is a bit difficult, there should be steps. Nice walk in the forest, excellent dinner, very different from the standard fare and a full explanation by the waitress. Excellent service. The room could do with an extra chair. Great breakfast on the terrace and a easy check out, so we had a very nice wedding anniversary.

Not as good as other Spicers properties/ experiences.. We found the food service very slow at breakfast and the food was nothing special. None of either wine we ordered was available at dinner. Beautiful grounds. Room was cute, bed was not very comfortable. Overall very expensive for what it is.

Montville paradise

The main restaurant has atmosphere at $125, the outside restaurant surrounded by plastic at night is cold and lacks any feeling.

The waitress had to supply a torch to read the menu.

She eventually moved us ito the bar table are awhich was acceptable, the al la carte meal was good but, nothing to writ ehome about

Complete luxury and wonderful surrounds.

This hotel has a lovely Hampton's Inspired theme which blends nicely with the hinterland landscape and the coastal environment not to far away. The food is superb and you would not enjoy the full experience unless you have the tasting menu at the Long Apron restaurant on site. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. A special mention to the General Manager Stephen and to our friendly waiter Zoe. We thoroughly enjoyed out stay whilst celebrating our wedding anniversary and would highly recommend it to others thinking about it for any future romantic getaways. A big thumbs up!!

Clovelly Estate is a small hotel so the experience is a delightfully relaxed and, well, intimate one. Excellent staff, great food, spacious rooms. Minor quibbles- side light to bed very low light, needs a pillow menu (they may provide it, should have asked). Overall though I would like to stay a lot longer.

Fantastic getaway

Everything about this place was relaxing. on arrival we were greeted very pleasantly, check in was a smooth process. We were shown around where the lounge, kitchen and pool etc is. All the staff were very friendly and always happy to help. Rooms had a wonderful sheike design and comfortable for sure. Great scenery and we went on a beautiful short walk for sunset. The library was also a lovely place to relax. We made use of the bikes to go to Montville town centre - such a cute little town with quirky shops. Finally the breakfast was fabulous with the great views in the morning. Overall a fantastic stay!

Serenity, peaceful place to stay

Wanted a quiet relaxed few days away with my husband, we are both tired & stressed in our 50's. It was a perfect choice, quiet, cool, perfect room, decorated as I would my own, lots of comfy seats around, shady verandas, window seat, books everywhere to pick up and enjoy. The pool area was attractive and away from the main house. Breakfast was quiet and relaxed, lovely waitress who just brought our food with no trouble, no buffet to work out how the coffee works etc. the chef at the restaurant surpassed themselves with many different tastes and catering to my fussy gut. Food was excellent, presentation and taste. Reception staff very well trained, not a problem that we forgot our shirt and forgot to handover the room key at the end, fixed it all up a few days later.

We had such a beautiful stay. The moment we walked up the path we felt calm and happy. The Clovelly Estate is so incredibly beautiful, nestled in the hinterland. The staff were attentive though out our stay. The food is fantasic! The Long Apron is an amazing restaurant and the matching wines were superb. A fabulous getaway.

Classy retreat in Sunshine Coast hinterland

Attended for a special occasion (15th wedding anniversary celebration). Staff were on top of their game - just wonderful from greeting to leaving 2 days later. Long Apron restaurant promotes itself as modern European fare. We could not fault the entire evening's offerings from the alacarte menu. Extensive wine list as expected from this standard.

We were offered a room upgrade (for a nominal amount) which we accepted. Suite was excellent. All in all a fabulous stay and we will be back. NB - Spicers experience is expensive but I believe worth it for such a special event, or even just to spoil yourself.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A luxurious retreat

My husband booked Spices for our 10th Wedding anniversary. We were met promptly by a staff member and escorted to our room. The room was beautifully decorated with a French feel and all amenities were outlined. We wondered up the path in the afternoon and had a quiet drink over looking the dam watching the sunset from the new pavilion. The standout for me was the meal in the restaurant.. I have had hundreds of meals in my years but this one was hands down the best. The chef was so creative (think Heston Blumenthal), hidden and complex tastes in every course and the wait staff were professional and friendly. The meal finished with a lovely \"chocolate\" note congratulating us on our 10years. Breakfast was included in our package and was equally matched in the quality of the meal and service. Thank you Spices for our treatment.

Estate Room was smaller than expected with only a window seat and no proper seating area. TV has to be watched from bed.

Food was delicious and beautifully presented, although perhaps too creative at times.

We celebrate 41 years of marriage

My husband surprised me by booking our anniversary night at your beautiful hotel. All staff were delightful, fun and graceful to all guests. I had a massage before dinner and the masseur (sorry, can't remember her name) was fantastic. Dinner was delicious and each course was eagerly looked forward to. Next morning breakfast on the terrace overlooking the garden was perfect.

We will definitely recommend your hotel to all our friends and hope to spend more than one night next time.
