Overall this hotel is amazing and great value for money. The beds are clean and soft, the bathroom is great, and the location is right next to the train station and the shops downtown so that’s amazing. Most of the staff were great, and the spa with the pool and sauna is incredible. However, on our last day staying here we had a bad incident with the staff. We asked to leave our suitcase behind the desk while we went to explore. We came back an hour later and when we went to retrieve our suitcase, they gave us the wrong one. I simply explained that it was the wrong one so they took me to the back to look at them all. I identified my suitcase but they told me I was wrong and that it belonged to somebody else. I explained to the staff (the same one who took my suitcase just an hour ago) that, no, that is my suitcase. Then they got really rude and asked us to wait by the front. The got more staff and again said they couldn’t find it so we asked them to check the cameras. They were really short with us and kept giving us bad looks. I stood at the front and waited for 20 minutes until one of them came out with my suitcase and said “there you go” and walked off. Utterly ridiculous and unnecessary, and they were just so rude which was a shame as I had loved my stay so far. Luckily we were leaving early to our flight but if we had been back later then we could have missed it!

Really nice hotel. Well-appointed, with an on-site restaurant for breakfast. It's a bit odd to get to, having to either walk from the Hbf around and over the expressway, or walk through a somewhat-desolate mall during opening hours. So though it looks centrally located, it's not as easy to access as other hotels near the train station. But a lovely basic setup for someone traveling and not needing or wanting to spend a lot of time in their room, and just needing a place to leave stuff and crash for the night. Conveniently accessible to shopping, groceries, and (with some weird Hobbit-like journeys) the Hbf.

We stayed for four nights. Room was clean, front desk helpful, but the elevator broke twice. The second time we requested to be put on a lower floor as we were on floor 5 (with two floors below 1 so 7 flights of stairs). They did accommodate that but did not offer to help us move anything. We specifically booked this hotel because it had a small pool which would be helpful for my husband’s muscle issues after standing all day at a conference. It was broken and moreover, the front desk implied it had been broken since they could remember - something that should really be put on the website! Room service was quick even when the elevator was out.

The guy on the reception in the late evening with the hair tied back was great, sadly I didn't catch his name. Very helpful with suggesting where to park the car with a disabled badge. He went out of his way to be helpful. The guy on the bar was also very friendly too. Between the two of them they restored my faith in Germany after a few bad experiences elsewhere earlier in the day. We'll absolutely be staying at the Mercure next time we're in Duisburg.

Breakfast is extremely expensive at 22 Euros. You can eat dinner for less.
Parking is somewhat a hassle as it's sub use of parking lot and getting the payment for it not clear up front. For the price you can stay in Dusseldorf or between for less and take the train which is right by the hotel and use Uber or Taxi.
Best part was the staff. Very helpful. Any major question or problems you need to talk with management in the morning , which I think you might have to get in line.

We stayed for 1 night in July. The restaurant was closed, the swimmimg pool was closed, the bar was closed.
We were not informed of any of this until we arrived. I like Mercure hotels, but not the Duisburg one.

Overall, good option for families. All four of us were able to stay in the same room with a sofa bed. Sofa bed was made up for us on check in!

Parking convenient underneath hotel, 10 Euro per night. Pool nice, bigger than it looks in the pictures. Sauna was hot but there are more seats in the sauna that out for relaxing so keep that in mind.

Hotel is a little dated but very clean and comfortable.
Breakfast was good, better than most but far from the best. Overall, good location for downtown Duisburg, pleasant stay.

I had a lot of problems at this hotel and if management hadn't talked to me, understood, helped to fix and make up for it, this rating would have been a very negative one.
So I won't go into detail of the things that went wrong, but I will give some advice.
Ask specifically for a room that is not affected by noise from the gym.
Inform yourself on actual restaurant and room service times and availability.

Air conditioner included but broken, was never fixed during our 5 day stay. We were given a fan, but had to ask for it. Dirty floors in hallway and elevator took forever, much faster to take stairs. Way too many children running around at all times loudly. I would recommend letting customers know ahead of time that this is a very popular place for families, not ideal for couples. Do not get breakfast here, it is utter chaos, and we had to walk out because there was barely any food (all was eaten and it was not replenished) and no forks to be found. Overall, we were really not happy with the stay, maybe it is good if you have a family. The location was excellent though (right next to the train station) and the staff was very nice and helpful.

We stayed here for 3 nights as part of our holiday from Australia. The location is very convenient – just a short walk from the station, and literally on the edge of the city itself. The reception staff were excellent, and we immediately felt welcome. The hotel is modern, clean and well-equipped. Our room was spotless, and very comfortable for our needs. The breakfast was simply excellent, and we also tried both the bar and the restaurant – all very good. Would highly recommend. In fact, have already bought a deal for a night in our local Mercure back in Adelaide!

Good room, I think mine was premium on 4th floor. Clean. A bit warm but windows opened. Good breakfast. Thin walls and a bit noisy due to gym next door, even though not sharing a wall as room was above the level of the gym and could see gym through glass ceiling are of gym. We were tavelling with our 3yo and 7 month old so asked for family rokm and extra cot. Room was ok, clean, the only problem for us was the temperature which we could not adjust (it was a bit cold for kids) but we got an electric fan when asked. Hotel a bit tired but clean. Car park not expensive for the whole 24 hours. Nice breakfast. Shopping mall just next door.

This is the quietist hotel I have stayed in, no noise from the corridor or other rooms as in other hotels I've stayed. my friends stayed in a nicer looking hotel but their rooms weren't as appealing. It's also nice to have a bath and shower.

They don´t make the beds, they place the duvet folded in two pices over the bed, which means that every day you must do the bed yourself. I wonder if this is this a hostel.
Also you can not regulate the heat in your room, they activate it everyday from 7:00 to 8:00, which is quite noisy and it wakes you up. I wonder why they don´t do such stuff at 13:00, when you are most likely to not disturb anybody´s sleep.

Modern hotel almost opposite the Opera House in Duisburg a few minutes walk from the main shopping street and a little further to the railway station.
Good size room, super clean bathroom all in good condition, breakfast is good and plentiful although at 18Euro is a little on the high side, in not included in your room rate.
The swimming pool and sauna are again clean and user friendly.
The heating is controlled centrally which means you have no control and I did find it airless and stuffy but the windows do open otherwise all was fine.

It was a decent night. Room was clean. I wish you could have a discount on parking near the hotel. the parking garage is not cheap. On hot days, you should leave on your AC at night. We did open the windows but the traffic noise and pedestrian noise kept us up most of the night. Not a good sleep. TV good. Bath was good. No wash cloths to use when taking a shower/bath.

The hotel was easy to find but sadly, despite booking 3 rooms well in advance, we were split across two floors and one of the rooms was full of beds, ideal for a family but it was just occupied by two people and one of the rooms wasn't as clean as expected. We recognise that we could have contacted reception about this but we did not make a fuss as we had arrived late and we didn't want to have to relocate to another room again or face further disruption when all we wanted to do was go to sleep. Having said that the hotel was just the job we needed for an overnight stay on our way elsewhere, the staff were helpful in answering our questions on arrival and departure and the provision of a mini fridge was ideal. We would consider booking into another Mercure hotel again in the future.

The room was small, the bed was small, the breakfast in the room was small and old bread. Also comparing to other Hotels the breakfast over charged. Also builders started working at 7AM drilling & hammering and when I complained all the say was ah, they are fixing the swimming pool and there is nothing they can do about it. Personally I will not stay in this Hotel again, not even for overnight stay.

In general - just a standard hotel. Did not use any of hotel services (restaurant or pool) so can't comment. But judging by the room the only reason this hotel is 4 star was the minibar - which is no use anyway. As I was ordering family room - and ended up in standard one, there was no space. Could not park in hotel's parking lot because of the height restriction (1.95 m), but managed to find perfectly fine free overnight parking across the street.

When you can walk through the shopping center the hotel was connected with, if you arrive late or leave early in the morning, you must go through the front door and walk a lot longer in order to get to the train station. While the room was clean, there were a lot of signs of ages past.

Very Good Hotel and Great Location!!!

Overall we have a good stay, good breakfast and service. The swimming pool is fine when nobody is there otherwise is too small. Hotel is close to the main station, but poorly signposted. It is actually behing a small shopping centre which is at the start of the main pedestrianised shopping street. Location having so said is excellent and central for everything. Generally hotel is very good, and only let down by two things - poor A/C and one very slow lift.

Mercure Duisburg, central and quiet

Hello,having stayed 3 nights at the Mercure Duisburg and I would recommend it to you. A room was available for an early check-in, really only wished to leave my suitcase, so that was excellent. Great to have a freshen-up. Helpful reception and hotel staff were friendly.
The hotel is centrally located, not too far to the rail station and the main streets but it is in a quiet location and area. The hotel inside was quiet too for a good nights sleep.
The decor, fittings, furniture and all areas are smart and feel \"relaxed and welcoming\".
I just had breakfast in the hotel but it was an excellent spread, goodness knows what you would want if you did not like it!
The swimming pool is good, not huge but at a constant 1.2mtrs is safe for all with care.
The only negative for me was that I found the hotel too warm, certainly in the bedroom and whilst there is air con it is a whole hotel system with no room control, shame as otherwise it would have been a all top marks.
Having said that I would stay at the hotel again.

The Mercure Duisburg was a good choice.

This was a very nice hotel and everything the description suggested it would be. The breakfast buffet was particularly great, with a wide range of American and European breakfast choices.

Unlike most American business hotels, wifi is not free here or in any other hotel we stayed in during our trip to Belgium and Germany in March, 2011. This can really raise the cost of your stay if you need to stay connected back home for work.

The location was great, with a short walk to the main shopping street of Duisburg, which is now pedestrian only. On Saturday morning, there was a farmer's market.

The casino next door to the hotel is also part of an indoor shopping area that has coffee shops, restaurants, fast-food, and other handy options.

I would be happy if the hotel turned down the heat, however; we had to open the windows and let the street noise in to sleep comfortably.
