getting a bit dated staff are excellent always helpful, beds are hard needed another blanket to sleep on, tiles around the pool are very slippery/dangerous overall a nice enough place to stay.

Misleading photos. Our room was a double, arrived to a twin. Dirty, dated facilities with a sewage smell in the bathroom. View from first floor room overlooks dirty rooftops. Restaurant ok but dirty old plastic wind shields line the edges. Beach full of ants and local pedlars continuously trying to sell, hotel do nothing to prevent this or move them on, unable to leave anything on the beach to go swimming for example because of this. Too few pool loungers for the number of staff and the usual towels on beds by 6am despite no one coming to use them until 10-11am and hotel do nothing to prevent and in fact put towels out for them. Very little in the local area to do. Hotel will try to rip you off for arranging taxis to the airport, wanted $30 for 25 minute trip, tuk tuk at the roadside took us for $4.
Pool staff good and attentive.
Would miss Negombo altogether on your itinerary.

good hotel for a short stay

This was our first hotel on arriving in Sri Lanka for a 3 week tour. Rooms on ground floor overlooking the pool were ok but i don't think I'd want to satya in the main block of rooms given their location. No lifts. The room, as with most hotel rooms in Sri Lanka, was showing signs of being affected by the humidity and looked a bit worn and had a damp smell about them. Unfortunately there was a drain smell in the bathroom which although not really bad was a bit off putting. The buffet breakfast was good and we ate three times in the hotel dining room over our 5 night stay, the food was very very varied and good. There is direct access to the beach from the hotels and although there were lots of beach hawkers they did not encroach onto the hotel property.
Unfortunately when we visited in Nov 2018 there was a lot of building work going on as they are extending the hotel and this was right next to our block. We were not told about this before we arrived. One day the building work went on for a full 24hr period, right through the night. When we complained the next day they said they had to work through the night as there was a load of concrete coming the next day and they had to have everything ready for it!!!! The staff were OK and surprising got more friendly the day before we left!

A good value mid level choice in Negombo

Goldi Sands is a good to very good hotel on the beach in Negombo. Facilities are functional and clean. Staff are very helpful. It’s not a flashy place but then again it’s well priced. We stayed in one ground level room which was a bit dark and tired, and in a top story room (200 #s) that was brighter and had ocean views which we much preferred. Food was fair to good not great. Nice pool. Beach sellers and debris can be annoying enough to keep one off the beach. Negombo itself is unattractive but does have some shopping and some good food eg. Cilantro.

Hotel location good . Breakfast good . Rooms good apart from showers poor as Luke warm to cold water . Contacted reception was told maintenance would come nobody came. I think it was a common thing to have cool water . If an unusual problem this would of been dealt with or alternative room offered but nothing . This spoilt our first experience of Sri Lanka as we had just arrived. So wouldn’t stay again.

great location , direct beach access close to shops and restaurants , rooms over look beach and sunset

pool is in need of repair, with broken tiles in and around it , the area is very slippery, we saw 2 people slip on the tiles around the pool in our 3 day stay !
staff need some customer service training

Nice hotel and lovely staff our room wasn't great

Staff was great, lovely food, nice pool and beach. But our room wasn't the best for the price paid. A/C was not working and the sink was clogged. ( But we did not inform the hotel regarding these issues as we stayed only for a night). They kindly extended our checkout time by an hour.

Nice hotel BUT

The hotel is well situated on the beach with a nice pool but spoilt by too many wedding parties taking over the facilities with the obvious noise issues. Food mediocre and often cold. Bathroom smelly..cold showers. No entertainment facilities at all.constant hawkers on the beach. No peaceful holiday.

My sister and I enjoyed 2 stays over a 2-week period of a few days each. We found Goldi Sands to be a very friendly comfortable place with good food and lovely position. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. We should certainly stay again if we return to Negombo

Beach view and good buffet

Overall a good short stay.

Rooms are a small but comfortable. The bathrooms need a good clean or even tiles need to be replaced as they are mouldy on parts.

It was nice having the balcony for a beach view but the crows were a nightmare. They do not stop crowing. Really annoying, you can't relax. This isn't the hotels fault, they are everywhere in Negambo.

Buffet breakfast was nice and lots of choice. Very fresh. We also had the buffet Sri Lankan dinner here. It was YUM! Gotta say the food here is very good compared to other hotels we stayed in over the 23 days in Sri Lanka.

Bar staff are not great. They can't make a cocktail on their life and assume they can keep the change as their tip. Other staff are friendly and welcoming.
Communal areas are tired. The seating could do with re-upholstery as it is stained.

With a little improvement the hotel could be great.

Great Location but very busy.

We have stayed in this hotel several times and it is in a great spot on the beach. We booked through a website this time as the hotel pricing was quite expensive & they could not match the price I had been given. The room was a bit disappointing as it was a fair distance from the lift & upstairs but overall the hotel is quite good due to the location & the breakfast is pretty good as well.

Goldi Sands hotel is on a lovely beach, has a great pool, friendly staff and nice buffet. But when you book make sure you ask for a quiet room otherwise you could end up on one on a busy road which is awful.

Very peaceful staff very helpful..loved every bit of the stay...however when booking the hotel on hotels.com it didn't give an option for sea view room otherwise we would have chosen that room when we checked in the guy at the reception asked if we require a sea view room we would have to pay 10 $ more...which we did pay and it was worth it...

A Good Choice

The hotel is located on the beach and has a lovely reception and pool area. The room was well laid out and had a good balcony overlooking the beach.
The hotel is a tad old in areas but they have invested in the rooms and common areas so that the important things are good.
There is a very nice pool and good eating areas plus places to relax.
I would stay here again and would recommend the hotel.

Bad experience! Try to avoid this hotel.

The staff are very arrogant and non-professional. No breakfast even though booking voucher stating free breakfast included. They added extra charge for breakfast. Hotels.com booked through expedia, but the information is misleading. Very disappointed with the hotel and hotels.com.

Upgrade is a must

Standard room was horrible (no balcony, no view, windows blinded, extremly loud) but the upgrade for 10-20$ is really worth it, we got a pool cabana with nice seating arwa outside.
Breakfast is god with many choices

Huge disappointment

Beautiful lobby and beach, but the room was a huge disappointment. Old and rundown and definitely not worth the price. We were also woken up at 7am by loud staff in the hallway. The only good thing about this hotel was the buffet breakfast. I would not stay here again. I don't like feeling ripped off

Rooms were above average. Aircon leaked badly flooding the desk below. Inform the manager , no apologies given as if it was my fault. Staff can improve on pax relations and not discriminate. At the end of the day everybody pays for the room. Stay if you don't mind the basics of a room.

Make sure you get a room with sea view!

We decided to stay at the Goldi Sands the night before flying back home since its very close to the airport (20-30min by taxi). The staff was very friendly (if a bit slow at times), the beach is beautiful. We ate lunch and breakfast there, the buffet offers a good selection. On the down side we got one of the few rooms without view on the sea. Probably as a compensation for this we got a complementary bottle of wine delivered to the room in the evening which was actually very nice. Also we found the vendors in the beach area to be too pushy. They are not allowed to pass beyond a certain line, but were constantly calling over to us as we were trying to relax which actually made us move to the pool area eventually. Overall it's a beautiful place to stay but it's worth making sure you get the sea view!

We travelled to Sri Lanka to visit Hikkaduwa for a week break and decided to stay in Negombo for a couple of days before our flight home. The hotel we stayed at was alright, although there was an issue with the breakfast as it wasnt included in our room rate, yet it said it was included on our booking form. So this caused some hassle. Other than that it is right on the beach, a nice pool and relatively nice rooms. However theres not too much going on in Negombo, so in hindsight would've stayed in Hikkaduwa.

Great beachfront location

All in all a thoroughly pleasant stay. The building could do with a little sprucing up, the odd paint job here and there. Brilliant location directly on the beach, with its private roped off bit so you don't get harassed by vendors all the time and set in lovely ground full of palm trees for a little shade.
Rooms are basic but really comfortable with a chic colour scheme. Our wardrobe door didn't close but that didn't bother us.
Staff are friendly and helpful.
Only downside, we had a German tour group stay so if you want to get a sun lounger, you better get up at crack of dawn to 'reserve' one but this has nothing to do with the hotel.

Das Hotel liegt an sauberem Strandabschnitt, die Verkäufer sind lästig. Das Meer msdig dauber Pool ok. Gut gür 1 ev. 2 Nächte nach langem Flug oder vor der Abreise. 30 Min. Vom Flughafen.

Dette var det første hotellrommet vi hadde på Sri Lanka og det er helt greit, hverken mer eller mindre.

Servicen på hotellet mtp innsjekk var kjapp og upåklagelig, i tillegg til at de var behjelpelige med å finne transport for oss videre til Kandy. Rommet var rent, men aircondition var enten for varm eller for kald. Og badet hadde en svak eim av kloakk, men det har vi i ettertid skjønt at er litt vanlig her.

Frokosten var helt ok, litt kjedelig buffé, men med egen omelettkokk.

Hotellet har eget basseng og ligger rett på stranden ca 15 min å kjøre fra flyplassen.

Kunne fint bodd her igjen en natt, men tenker det ikke er ett sted du vil være lenge.

Nice hotel with pool at the beach.

Room 101 (non sea view) is terrible, no view at all. We could get an upgrade for USD 10,00 per night and got a standard sea view room which was a good deal.
Hotel with pool and at the beach is perfect. Close to restaurants and shops.
There is a airport transfer, but in the street you can get a transfer for half the price.
Really good breakfast.
