La Solitude was not my first choice for a stay in Lourdes, but it will be my first choice when I return!

The hotel itself is a little dated and certainly the upper floors could do with a revamp.
As is common in France the toilet and shower rooms were separate, which can be a bit awkward to navigate especially in the dark- and I personally don’t like having to touch door handles before being to wash my hands!

The rooms had everything needed though, including a small frudge

You wouldn't expect a 4-star hotel to have a gas station dispenser for toilet paper, or body wash, would you?

The air conditioner didn't cool. We were looking forward to hanging out by the pool and relaxing. The pool area smelled of mildew and was humid with pool chemical odors. None of the pool furniture had cushions or coverings.

We were disappointed in the overall experience we had at the hotel.

On hindisight I would pick a different location to stay in Lourdes as the hotel is at a fairly hectic intersection.

The remodel done to the rooms is an Ikea rehab with a beautiful lobby that doesn't match the overall texture of the property. We had issues with room maintenancence. Our room was not serviced for several nights over our six day stay.

Don't expect an espresso maker in the room. The toiletries and towels were right out of a motel 6.

This was not my cup of coffee!

Holy water in Lourdes exceptional.

Before arrival, I had messaged the hotel, via Expedia to ask about parking details, but got no reply. Warning! The route to the car park is extremely tight. We managed it, with great difficulty, however was unable to find a satisfactory space inside so needed to leave. Turning the car inside was very difficult and extremely stressful. There were tears. The route out on to the road damaged the clutch on our rental car. The whole porocess of entering, leaving then finding different parking took an hour and a half. I asked for a refund for the parking which has been agreed but will take a few days.
When we got to our room, it didn't have a balcony which we had booked. Our room was changed quickly, which was good. However my daughter got stuck in the bathroom. We were unable to open the door. I called reception for help. After a 10 minute wait, I managed to yank the door with force.
The room was very clean and comfortable. I had a good sleep. The view from the balcony was beautiful! The hotel location is very close to everything. The pool was small, but nice and refreshing. Internet access was good.

We arrived with a service dog and the staff was amazing. They allowed us to see the rooms, they took care of us, they were kind and made everything to make us feel comfortable. Will definitely go back!

Location is great and parking overnight is easy and reasonably priced. Front desk staff were amazing. Cafe staff seemed tired and fed up with tourists (understandably), though always polite. The hotel is rated 4 stars, which may reflect an historical rating in days of old, as it is not a 4 star hotel by today's standards. Value for money I would score a 1/5 - this is not really worth $210.00 CDN dollars/night - The city in general, unless you are visiting for spiritual/religious reasons, is not worth a visit. It is a small town burdened with 5 million tourists per year and there are clear signs of fatigue and dilapidation outside of the main tourist areas.

We have been blessed a room with beautiful view of the river & mountain. Staff in hotel were very helpful and friendly and we received much guidance on how to get around Lourdes from Front Desk, Ms Vanessa. Though the official breakfast time was 7am, hotel is very accomodating to start breakfast as early as 6.30am for guests who are required to depart early. Will definitely be back next year for our pilgrimage again.

It was a beautiful hotel the staircase was amazing the only thing that was missing was the check in they couldn’t find our reservation which was really stressful I suffer with anxiety and when they couldn’t find it I panicked they didn’t do anything to relieve this they just made it worse by saying I’m not booked in even though I had confirmation and had spoke to the hotel previously telling them I would be late checking in they didn’t work well under pressure and was a little unprofessional but apart from that was a beautiful hotel would definitely stay here again ❤️

It wasn’t a 4 star, it was a 2 star hotel, very dated, the rooms were NOTHING like the pictures on the site! Infested with flies from the river, very rude service when I wanted some spray for the flies, I was told there was nothing they could do! I eventually got a different room on my last night, the bath didn’t work, the maintenance man had to tell reception. I had to chase reception about it, all they said was someone’s coming to fix it tomorrow, I said I’m leaving tomorrow! How convenient! My 2nd room had an awful view & what sounded like bottle bins kept me up very early morning, bearing in mind I hadn’t slept for 3 nights now because of fly infestation, flying on me during the nights!

I’ve stayed at the property many times before, but this time, whereas there has been enormous improvements with the foyer and reception area. The menu was small, hugely expensive service was slow. The bedroom was more like a hostel bedroom. It was so small that the armchair was by my bed so I couldn’t get out. I asked them to remove the armchair which was not done. There was no shampoo, it really was like being in a hostel, I would never go back

The hotel is okay. We stayed in a room right next to the river so the view was great. However the room was dated and although it was supposed to be a double room it had an extra single bed which made it crowded in the room.
The parking lot is very difficult to get to and had an unsafe entrance especially for motorcycles. It has a steep ramp with sharp turns and it is painted grey. The top of the ramp gets wet making the whole situation extremely un safe.
After much arguments about why I could not safely park a large motorcycle there, they did eventually offer me a spot in an outside parking lot of another hotel they had down the street.

Air conditioning was not working in the room, when we asked the reception staff we were told that it was too cold for air conditioning and suggested we open the French door to get air into the room. The was no mention when we booked to say AC was seasonal. Jacuzzi was not working.
Safe in wardrobe was not fixed to the wall, just loose on the shelf.
No handle on French doors, had to put your finger in a hole to open it, it also meant the door was unlocked all the time.

Breakfast was poor, scrambled eggs were made from powder eggs !!! why ?

How could it be a 4-star hotel?

We stayed one night in late April 2019. We were given a room on the top floor which is like an attic. The room itself is very very basic. It's definitely not look like a 4-star. But the bathroom is even worse. For the shower, it doesn't even have a shower curtain. If you take shower, you will wet the whole bathroom. So we didn't take a shower. Fortunately it was only one-night stay. At night, we realized the temperature control didn't work either. The room was very hot. It was raining hard so we couldn't keep the window open.
When we were checking out, I complained to a hotel staff. She said why we didn't tell her earlier. Well, when we were checking in, we were told the hotel was fully booked. I didn't think they could move us to a better room. Also we had a very tight schedule and we didn't know the room temperature control didn't work either. Anyway, it was very very disappointed. The only thing good is the hotel's location. It's right in the center. What threw me off is how could a 4-star hotel has a such bad facility??? I think the hotel should have discounted our room rate.

Wonderful hotel with kind and caring staff!!

Loved the hotel and the staff were so kind and couldn't do enough. We got there to late to arrange some equipment for my disabled elderly mother so they went off and found it for us which really made the stay even better and we were able to relax more so would most definitely stay there again. The only thing I wasn't overly impressed with was the actual food at breakfast - very bland and not much imagination but it wouldn't stop me for coming back again.

We'd stay there again

For your stay in Lourdes, I think you'd struggle to find anywhere as good as Hotel La Solitude. Excellent location, great facilities and very kind and helpful staff. We stayed in a family room which was situated over two floors. The beds were comfortable and it was good to have two bathrooms. Tea and coffee making facilities were included and a fridge and safe were provided too. We enjoyed there being an indoor pool and the views from the pool patio are majestic. We stayed on a B&B basis. There was a good choice on the breakfast menu, so I'd say that there was something for everyone. What could have made our stay better? Difficult to find fault. However, the air conditioning fan in the room was somewhat rattly, which was irritating but you did get used to it (air conditioning did mean that we had a comfortable night's sleep). I must acknowledge that while we appreciated the hotel providing soya milk (two in our party have to avoid dairy), it would have been nice if a dairy-free alternative to butter was available - sorry, I'm a toast for breakfast person. Nonetheless, don't let these two minor comments put you off staying here. Based on our very recent experience, you'll have a comfortable stay.

I travelled with my mother to Lourdes and found this hotel initially good upon check-in, but that's where the staff's smiles and acknowledgements ended. Not a glance or smile whenever walking by later. I tried calling the front desk to ask a question about the room but got no response. My brother back home had also tried reaching us in our room several times and was told we were probably out and sometimes the phones don't work (??) what if there was an emergency? Don't bother with the bar/restaurant, five men standing around doing nothing and not one of them understood English. First time ever I had to return the meal I ordered. Be prepared for the toilet to be in a closet and then walking four feet away to reach the bath/sink in another room. And to end the stay, the wake up call we requested on the last night so we wouldn't be late for the bus - did not happen! I certainly wasn't expecting a four star in Lourdes to be just that, as I realize it's not the city, but did expect some better courtesy. The pluses would be the location and air conditioning.

The hotel was fabulous. The restaurant and bar staff are excellent in their job, giving their best services to the guests with a great welcoming attitude and work ethics. The ambience is very friendly and elegant offering a good value for money. Food was great so as the buffet breakfast. Although there was a little bit of misconception that occurred during my stay when they sent me a phone bill in my room which was highly unrecognized. I felt annoyed and went to the reception to sort it out and asked them to give me a proof of a telephone call that was made in my room, they were not able to do so and as a matter of principle after hearing my side the manager has written off the bill as it was seemingly a mistake made by the receptionist who wrote the bill of 20.00 Euros. I believe there's nothing so much annoying when you stay in any hotel than getting unwanted bills for unknown expenses like telephone calls which you haven't made at all! Above all it was cleared and I left the hotel with good impression despite that little misunderstanding.

Staying at La Solitude was great - the room as ready early, so it was nice to check in and change, instead of Justin leaving our luggage at reception when we arrived early. The room was clean and comfortable, and having a pool to relax in was an awesome extra feature. If you're going to Lourdes to see the cathedrals and the Bernadette stuff, then I would definitely recommend this hotel for its convenient location.

Located in the heart of town, overlooking the river. Quiet and wonderfully appointed for the price. Although it didn't have any negative effect on me, the hotel attracts groups and the restaurant was quite full at meal times. However, there is a restaurant next door which gives very good service and the food was wonderful and the prices very fair. Most people stop at Lourdes for a spiritual retreat, but it is also a thriving town at the foot of the very scenic Pyranees Mountains between France and Spain. It is on the path from Bordeaux to the Mediterranean and therefore not unreasonable to visit the site of a beautiful cathedral, take in the holy waters and participate in a candlelight procession of faith.

My boyfriend and I come to Lourdes every year to visit Our Lady of Lourdes. We have stayed at different hotels each time. However, this time around we have finally found the hotel we will probably be staying at every time we visit Lourdes!! We were pleasantly surprised at how NICE this hotel is! It is definitely a 4 star hotel! We loved the friendly and helpful staff, the views, the location, the cleanliness and the comfort at this hotel! We are very happy we found it! The water was out for the whole hotel when we arrived in the afternoon. It came back on in a couple of hours. The next morning, we had no hot water. I was told it would be back on in 20 to 30 minutes. After breakfast, I went to the front desk and was told the hot water wouldn't be back on until the afternoon. I asked for a different room to take a shower. It sounded like the entire hotel didn't have hot water. When the owner/manager (?) heard me talking to a front desk staff, he got on the phone and the hot water was back on within the hour. The other staff member should have taken care of this without me having to complain.

The beds were hard, the room was dark and dingy, and the furniture looked like it was from the late 1980's. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

If you are youngish and want to be near the Pyrenees to hike (like me) this is not your place to stay. If you are older and want proximity to the religious aspects of Lourdes, as it was in the 1970s, this is your place.

Can only say that this is one of the nicest Hotels l have stayed in. From the moment you arrive at reception, it is like being welcomed into a friends or family members home. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff to make sure your stay is enjoyable. I would say that the option of a bed and breakfast stay should be introduced. Nice hotel in the Centre of town close to Grotto

Staff was great. We were 3 adults and 1 child. They gave us a suite with an adjoining room, lots of space. We had the view of the church next to the grotto and especially the walkway toward the Church, which made it even better at night because we would sit on the balcony and watch the nightly procession listening to the singing of the Ave Maria and the Rosary being prayed. Breakfast was good, simple but fine with croissants and French bread coffee juice cereal and oatmeal. Rooms were clean but they did not replace the coffee cups for the next 2 days we were there which meant we couldn't make coffee. But all in all a great hotel in the Centre and great staff.

Fantastic trip!

The hotel was renovated since my last stay here several years ago. When we checked, they had a queen size bed for me and my sister because they claim that was the accommodation I reserved. They made an adjustment and put us in a room with the view of the gave River which was fantastic. They also saw both of us are handicapped, so the room has all the necessary bars and handles we could use. I have recommended La Solitude Hotel to my friend and travel agent. The hotel is very close to the Sanctuary.

Great location, bright clean but rooms dated

I stayed in this hotel 8 years ago and whilst it is still as bright and clean as before, the rooms have not changed and they seem quite dated. They staff were all very friendly but the service everywhere was slow (at reception, in the dining room etc). Just to be clear, I don't blame the staff for this, I blame the management as they did not have enough staff on duty. There was one man at reception on Friday afternoon for check-in and one person serving our group and another large group (50+ guests) in the dining room. The management should have been better prepared for the number of guests they had booked in.

La Solitude provides warmth, welcome, and comfort

A stone's throw from the Lourdes sanctuary, La Solitude was a wonderful place to stay on my first pilgrimmage to Lourdes. The front desk staff couldn't have been warmer or more welcoming, and there is a spirit of kindness and support, much like in Lourdes in general. Facilities are very well-kept and comfortable. I had a nice view of the river, fort, and mountains, which was a nice plus, too.

Excellent hotel in central Lourdes

We stayed at La Solitude for an overnight stop whilst visiting Lourdes. The hotel is excellent nicely furnished with a lovely restaurant, lounge & bar area. The room was well furnished. Our meals were excellent & all the staff first class. I must mention that it took us 30 mins to finally get to the hotel as the sat nav was trying to send us down one way streets & I had to park up & walk a couple of streets as I could see the hotel but not drive to it. The person on reception told me that in Lourdes the one way system changes every 15 days & everyone has problems. The hotel entrance is along a narrow sidestreet between 2 shops & unless you saw the hotel sign about 20 feet up in the air you could just drive past! The access to their underground car park was the biggest challenge ever, there are 2 90 degree turns down a slope to get in then the car park is full of large pillars with small spaces so it took another 10 minutes to eventually park the car. However, the hotel is excellent & well worth the effort

OK hotel.good views.

The room was ok but we felt not quite 4 star.Very nice balcony views of the river.Car park entrance was 'challenging' for our suv but manageable.All in all a very pleasant place with excellent staff who were cheerful & efficient.Definitely go again.

Recommend it!

After staying in two DIVES in Paris, what a refreshing change it was to stay at the Solitude. The view off our balcony was the icing on the cake. We ate at the restaurant and both times the food was excellent, the service good and the food great! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone going to Lourdes....great location as well!

We arrived quite late and were confused as being part of an older generation bus tour! The wifi was temperamental at best and staff weren't too concerned about it. So, not particularly friendly staff. Also, you cannot call an oversized flat jacuzzi a swimming pool! However, the room was clean and the bed very comfortable.
