Villa Del Caribe is a great family-friendly place to stay. Extremely secure (cameras and a guarded gate), beautifully kept facilities, great hotel rooms with comfy beds, mini split air conditioning, a refrigerator. Amazing friendly staff (most are fluent in English), a wonderful pool (my teenagers lived here, basically), complimentary breakfast served IN ROOM (on your private balcony!), great local restaurants (Spicy Coconut for adults, next door Argentine & Italian pizzeria El Rincón Porteño), but the best part was...

THE WILDLIFE. WOW. The wildlife. We saw all of this while we were staying at the hotel –– 20+ howler monkeys next to the parking lot (some with babies). Leaf cutter ants. Multiple sloths (one with a baby). Iguanas. Green parrots. Agoutis! And almost no bugs! (I got three bug bites in total over three days, including one from a leaf cutter ant who didn't appreciate my closeup photography.) Even more wildlife but I won't put it down here. The Jaguar Rescue Center is also essentially across the street, so you can walk there from this hotel easily.

We will always remember our amazing adventure at this hotel. Well worth the drive from San Jose to get here. We can't wait to come back one day!

This was a perfect Caribbean style villa with direct access to the gorgeous water for snorkeling and swimming. Had an incredible up close experience with a mother sloth with her baby moving along under the wood supports under the roof outside our room. Toucans also right outside. Across the street from the Jaguar Rescue center. A fantastic place to stay.

The grounds were beautiful. Can see ocean from room. It’s an older property but well kept. The staff were amazing. Naomi was always accommodating, went out of her way to call on excursions, check on restaurants, filling cooler with ice and always with a smile. She made are stay there even more amazing. Jenifer also was always willing to accommodate. The breakfast delivered to room each morning was fabulous. We definitely will be back again.

This is an older resort hotel that has been very well maintained, surrounded by mature gardens that provide ample space for wildlife, shade and relaxation. There is a pool with a waterfall, a shaded bubble pool and tot area. One excellent restaurant on site and another right next door. The beach out front is coral tide pools that you can sit in, a short walk to the right brings you to a sandy beach with snorkelling and a little further to a beautiful curve for playing in the waves, all with very few people. Service in the hotel was excellent. Breakfast is delivered to your room at your preferred time and all of the staff were helpful and friendly. Simply delightful.

the spicy coconut restaurant on site and the other adjacent restaurant offer excellent food. Staff at the Spicy coconut were great. Pool was clean and nice. Lots of wildlife on site. We had Sloths climbing around the spicy cocunut restaurant while we ate. huge iguanas in the trees around the pool. agoutis walking around the grounds in the day.
Rooms are clean and basic. Beds are IMO too hard and uncomfortable, but that is personal preference. Price on expedia was reasonable. Located right across from the animal rescue farm.

Incomplete room description

It is a quiet place and ideal for families and to enjoy with children and the elderly. Unfortunately, when booking the room, the description indicated that it had a kitchenette, which I interpreted to mean that you could cook, but unfortunately that was not the case... Unfortunately, I bought food to cook and everything was damaged because I could not cook, since there is only a microwave oven, mini refrigerator, toaster and coffee maker. I asked if they could charge me something extra to have a portable stove and utensils and the answer was: NO. We all know that breakfast is already charged, IT IS NOT A COURTESY: Villas del Caribe should give more options.

Super helpful staff. We were glad to have the use of the beach towels and be able to rent snorkels. The water is visible from the Villas and there are rocky pools that were good for snorkeling. The sandy beaches are walkable.

Beautiful property with the ocean just a few yards away. The grounds were filled with amazing plants and animals--howler monkeys, tucans, dart frogs, agouties--and while the ocean could be a bit rough, the tide pools were sandy bottomed and deep enough to swim in without being hit by waves. Fabulous all around!

Nos encanta quedarnos en este hotel, el acceso a la playa es muy conveniente y los restaurantes que están en la propiedad excelentes. Lo único que empaño nuestra última visita fue la presencia de cucarachas, algo que sabemos es difícil de controlar en el trópico, pero a lo que definitivamente deben prestar más atención. There are many options to stay along the coast, but I found this place an excellent value. You can pay less elsewhere, but here you get air-conditioning in the bedrooms and breakfast included, delivered to your door and the pool. You can pay more elsewhere but why? This place is beautiful.

We loved our stay here! Nice room with a beachy vibe. The grounds are incredible! I woke up early every morning and went out to watch the great green macaws fly in and out of the trees to eat and walk along the sandy path in front of the hotel. The beach is steps away from the hotel, and I loved swinging on the many swings they have watching the sunrise and wildlife. There’s a great restaurant next door, The Spicy Coconut, which was super convenient since we didn’t have a car. Loved it here and would most definitely stay again!

Beachfront was very nice and picturesque. We saw so many animals just in front of our room. We were lucky to get room 26 as the rest of the rooms overlooked a dilapidated roof. Bathrooms were tiny and shower pressure was really low. Lots of traffic noise as rooms are literally beside the main highway. Breakfast was amazing and service was great. Quality and size of beach towels could be improved. Overall, excellent for your money.

The gardens are beautiful. We were able to see sloths and howler monkeys without ever leaving the grounds. The restaurant on-site is great too. We were able to walk to the scooter/bike rental so we’d have transportation into town. Too far to walk for us-maybe 3 miles each way? We’d stay again for sure.

This would’ve been the perfect hotel based on location alone but the bed was as hard as a rock and the rats climbing around scratching and squeaking in the walls kept us up every night. The outdoor area is very nice and there is a family of howler monkeys playing in the trees at least once a day. If I could’ve stayed at a different hotel with a bed that didn’t leave me sore and sleepless, and loud rats crawling around all night in the wall I still would’ve wanted to visit the outdoor area of this place. There were sloths, monkeys, iguanas, etc right on the property. Sleeping comfortably was just an unobtainable dream staying here.

Exceptional. I have already recommended to other tourist because of the numerous howler monkeys and Great Green Macaws seen and heard at the property! The rooms are a bit outdated and we had a few small spiders inside but the front desk gave me spray! The restaurant was ok but there is a great bar/restaurant just past the pool. The grounds are incredible and the beach was pretty but the prettiest beach is about 5 minutes away at Punta UVA! If you are visiting for wildlife, this is the place!

My family (with a 7 and 12 year old) loved this property. The villa was spacious and clean. We were right on the beach and could easily walk up and down the beach for miles. The Spicy Coconut was fabulous for dinner! But the breakfast was just okay. I would gladly stay here again. It was clean, relaxing, and just a short ride to the center of puerto viejo.

Lovely gardens on the beach. Nice palapa for breakfast (included). Beach outside resort is not swimmable due to coral, so you have to walk or drive a bit. Screens on room would be a great improvement so we could sleep with widows open other the waves. Bed so hard I could not sleep, so I won't be returning.

The location of this property is incredible, right on the beach and a quick bike ride to both Punta Uva and Puerto Viejo. The staff was also very nice and helpful.

The rooms, however, were not what I expected. The king bed is actually two incredibly thin, uncomfortable twin beds smushed together. The windows in the room were also missing panes allowing a tremendous amount of sound (and also many bugs) to come in 24/7. The bathroom was also less than ideal. I would probably not stay at this property again, but the location is fantastic.

Also Expedia says that the hotel has bikes available for rent, but they do not. There are bike rental shops within walking distance.

We stayed here a couple nights and it was our favorite hotel of 4 others on this trip that we stayed at. The property is beautiful being on the beach with beautiful trees/flowers, the hammock swing on the balcony was so relaxing during the down pour and listening to the waves crashing, the breakfast was amazing and the staff were all very polite/helpful. Considering the area, this is likely your best choice. In need of a remodel, the location is superb. On the carribean, near puerto viejo and Cocles, with shopping; groceries and souveniers nearby. Dont miss going south to Manzanillo, stunning beach, vistas and sunsets.

Keep your expectations in check; you are experiencing a 60's surf community with a vibrant culture and great local food. No tourist trapping just Pura Vida.

This is a large tranquil property with beautiful well kept grounds. Every room has an ocean view with many short trails to the beach. The on-site restaurant is excellent and it’s an easy walk along the beach to access many other dining options. I would definitely recommend this property and would happily stay here again.

The grounds and beach at this property are amazing. There are small \"ocean pools\" made in the rock formations and miles of beach to enjoy. We had a Jr. Suite which was wonderful. Can't wait to come back.
