We stayed 3 nights. We liked that it was directly in front of beach. Nice free breakfast. Salt water pool was so nice. The staff were great. They always checked in to ensure guests were happy and had what they needed. My bad for not thinking that it is in the jungle. We saw a snake at the pool (little and not a threat), resident howler monkeys woke us at 5 am every morning (again part of nature) and sloths!! Dining options around hotel are limited however you can take a tuktuk into puerto Viejo for more dining options.

This place was perfect for my family (adult children). Lots of wild life on the resort. The beautiful breakfast buffet was delicious. Staff at the desk was friendly and helpful. Rustic Jungle vibes in gorgeous setting. Many nights ended with a swim at the pool. Excellent base camp for Manzanillo, Cahuita, Uva, and of course Puerto Viejo. It is true about water pressure or lack there of, and some of the finishes in buildings and bungalows show their age, it manages still to keep it's charm. We will be back.

Front desk...Naidelin... Very friendly and helpful, so sweet...Dexon... Bartender and waiter... He went above and beyond! Deyver also helped us out so much! The only thing I wasn't happy with is when it's all inclusive , you pay for it... It does not include everything it's limited! The resort is beautiful.The animals are plentiful... and so cool... Keep an eye out for the colorfull poisonous frogs! Beautiful... Food and drink are really good also... It's nice that they have the separate pools... Atmosphere is authentic & amazing! Room was very nice also! I could go on and on , but i've said enough! We definitely would like to return. Everyone was pretty awesome!

Construction noise all day and leaf blowers at 7am is not something conducive to a stay at a spa resort….sorta contrary to the whole concept. A/C in the room did not work. These are management issues….staff was great!!! Staff gets a 5/5.

The rooms are not beachfront as stated but only a simple walk across the street. Resort is absolutely beautiful with abundant wildlife and jungle vibe. Some of the rooms need maintenance and better cleaning. All around great property for the most part. The beds could also use some better love as they are quite hard. We will definitely be back!

This hotel is really in the jungle and very authentic from that perspective

The beach is just across the road so it is a perfect location with little beach bars outside

We saw a sloth on the ground just outside our room, it seemed to live in the grounds

Only downside was the reception staff were a bit doppy and failed to book our rafting despite 3 attempts so just booked it myself - otherwise they were fine

Photos of the rooms make it look amazing but this property is run down. To be fair, there is considerable work being done to update several areas around the property. Unfortunately that meant a lot of construction to weave through while walking around the property. Food and pool area are good. Staff are hit or miss. Some are amazing (Francisco), and others ambivalent. One receptionist (Natalie) who was helping us book a tour through the hotel never contacted the tour company. So we didn’t get to go on the one tour we wanted before leaving. Grounds are pretty and beach area is nice. The hotel advises you not to drink the water from your room and they provide a glass container to go get water from public areas for your room, which is a bit inconvenient.

We loved having the beach and good dining very close. The grounds are beautiful and we saw howler monkeys, common black hawks and sloth right on the property. Playa Cocles is across the street with some major waves! Our apartment had a kitchen which was very convenient. It is close to the street and adjacent property, so not quiet. The only inprovements we would like are a replaced shower head and mitigation of the sewage smell (brief) near the stairs.

We have traveled all over Central America. We are not high maintenance travelers. On arrival, they had lost our reservation and \"upgraded\" us to a bungalow. Staff also made the mistake of talking in front of us not realizing I speak Spanish and it was clear they were irritated to have to do something. The room we got had no functioning toilet. I went to the front desk to let them know. They reached out to move us via Whatsapp which we did not know was their means of communication, so we didn't see it until the next morning. In the morning when I turned on the shower, I was electrocuted when I stood in the water and had my hands on the faucets. That's a first for me in world travel. I was not pleased and we went to the front desk, but there is no one there until 7 am. They moved us to another bungalow. That one did have a functioning toilet and a non-electrocuting shower, but it did not have a drain stop in the sink which became a problem because at 5 am the following day, we discovered an enormous scorpion in our bathroom sink. My husband went to look for someone but there was no one there so he found the parking guy who kindly came in to look for the scorpion. The scorpion had disappeared, but they ran the water and up crawled the scorpion from the plumbing and the very nice parking attendant removed it. Then the giant cockroaches began crawling from the bathroom sink and that was it for me. We left. Wait staff is great, front desk not so much.

Beautiful jungle atmosphere. Wildlife animals observed on the property. Great drinks at the bar. Breakfast buffet and dinner was delicious. Walking distance to the beach and other restaurants. The family cabin had a wonderful patio and hammocks. I would’ve preferred adults only. It was almost impossible to be in the swimming area near the wet bar with so many kids present. Most of the vendors on the beach only accepted colones. I would suggest you get money exchanged from the airport or the national bank in Costa Rica ATM does colones. Tips are accepted for room service and meals. Laundry was outstanding! We received our laundry same day service.

Great spot. Walk to the beach and restaurants. Yoga class was great. They have everything you need on property. Awesome sloth sightings. Also some monkeys and other wildlife. Overall the place was great and I would recommend it. My only complaint would be the first day they seemed to struggle with getting their beach towels cleaned. They kept saying an hour and all day they were out. The other thing is the pool is nice with some variety of depths, but they could have cleaned it better each morning there were dead bugs and leaves. Not overwhelming but it wouldn’t have taken much to grab a skimmer and clean it up. Breakfast buffet had a lot of options.

The setting is incredible, you are in the heart of the rain forest, with so much wildlife around you. We saw several sloth's, toucan's, monkeys and humming birds, whilst sitting by the pool.

We rented bicycles and rode to town several times, which was an easy ride. Plenty of restaurants in the area to eat at, but the hotel had several options also, which were all delicious.

The staff were great, multi lingual, and very helpful. Rooms were clean and well sized. Rooms were cleaned and restocked daily.

The only issue was the Internet wasn't the greatest, but fine for messaging and keeping in contact.

It was a fantastic experience, and I fully recommend this peaceful and beautiful resort.

I stayed at Cariblue with my family for over a week and we all loved it. Enjoyed that it’s a little outside the main action of Puerto… there’s some stuff to do within walking distance but you’ll need a taxi or bike to do other things.

Stayed in a family suite which has direct access to one of the pools and is basically across the street from the beach. The suite was perfect for us and we didn’t mind getting a bit of noise from the neighbouring restaurants. The outside noise seemed to wrap up fairly early and the rooms have thick walls anyway.

The hotel grounds are gorgeous and filled with sloths, howler monkeys, golden orb spiders and the hard-working leaf cutter ants. So cool!

The food at La Jungla was really really good! We ate there multiple times during our stay outside of the complementary breakfast buffet. They even offered room service pizza, which is convenient when travelling with kids.

The food and beverage service ranged from meh to fabulous, with Jose, Holly and Yoser being super stars. Front desk staff were always there to answer questions and help us out.

Sure, there are things I could nitpick about but given the total cost and the location, it’s really not worth mentioning.

Also, Surya Spa was incredible. I had a massage and scrub with Karla and it was so so good.

We will definitely be back!!

Had three issues, one being the sewage smell in the rooms. I believe this might be an issue in the area as in the past I stayed at another hotel and had the same problem. I opened all windows and that resolved that issue. Another issue was that one can hear everything in the other guest bedroom and bathrooms. No privacy. As if they were in your room. Had two rooms #16 and #18. Lastly, my husband somehow got injured with the glass door leading to the street. Instead of it shattering into small pieces, it broke into long pointed sharp edges. He got a few stitches on his legs and arms but had it been a child the ending could have been tragic. On the plus side, it’s close to town and convenient. I’m a nature lover so that was the perfect place. Everyone was extremely nice. The garden is beautiful with tropical flowers, birds, butterflies and other small cute animals including monkeys roaming around. Didn’t see the monkeys but heard them. I’m looking forward to spending time there again as the place is well kept and the staff are exceptionally kind and courteous.

This year we went to three places on the East Coast and this was the only place that had air-conditioning in the room. Air Conditioner worked very well.
We will never stay anywhere without AC again! (Except in the mountains.)
Always somebody around that spoke good English. That was helpful.

Physical property was great...loved the room and grounds. I was expecting a HOT tub, but it was cold. The staff seems to be confused on some of their policies. Was told we can change out towels when we needed to at checkin. When we tried to change the towels after being at the beach and pool, we were told we couldn't. Ice was not available except in a very small glass - no bucket. On our first night we sat at the bar during happy hour...next night we were told we couldn't sit at the bar...please get your stories straight.

We can't say enough wonderful things about this resort that has become a home away from home for us. Our family has been traveling to this resort throughout the last 15 or so years and we have brought at least that many people to experience the wonderful hospitality that is offered here. There is a perfect mix of jungle, beach and relaxation here that I haven't been able to find anywhere else. The accommodations are clean and unique in the best way. Bungalows are the way to go for us but every room that we have been in has been great. Breakfast is included and plentiful; fresh fruit, eggs cooked to order and traditional breakfast items to keep you coming back for more. If you want to find something to do in the area or book a spa session (coffee and Cacao scub with massage - yes please) anyone at the front desk is happy to help. Manuel is one of our favorites! There are 3 different pools and the food at the resort is not only delicious, but also well priced. Happy hour at the Swim up bar with Carol was a blast! She was so kind and funny to be around! We were supposed to get married on the beach but with the lightening storm, the resort was wonderful enough to set up a beautiful area for our small ceremony in one of their pergolas. It was everything we could have asked for. Please consider this if you are thinking about staying in this area. We were planning a return trip halfway through this last one. Can't wait to go back! Small tip - book a domestic flight to Limon

The Cariblue is in a great location, just across the road from the beach in Puerto Viejo within walking distance of many places to eat and shop or go to the beach.
We got a wonderful massage at the spa in the hotel, fabulous! They also included a free buffet breakfast and there is coffee service in the room.
The pool area is beautiful, with a swim up bar. Only complaints are the bartender at the pool seemed a little unsure of what he was doing and the \"free drink\" was limited to a questionable sangria that was mostly ice. But overall it was a nice stay.
I had reserved a bungalow through Expedia, and we were given a regular (but very large) hotel room near the road. Not sure if that was the fault of Expedia or the hotel giving away our reserved bungalow. They did honor the price from Expedia so that is good.

initial rooms were small and mosquitoes were a problem. Fortunately we got upgraded to a 2 bdrm \"house\" with a lovely covered porch and kitchen area...and not so open to mosquitoes. Buffet breakfasts were good as were dinners but limited menu. The jungle landscape is very nice and the beach across the street is beautiful.

Good, but eventful times in this tropical resort

This was a very nicely located and isolated resort in Puerto Viejo. Very nice, relax and zen vibes with friendly staff. Only thing is some employees I would say are too relaxed.

I had no phone working in my bungalow upon arrival, asked staff to fix it and never got it fixed with no follow-up, even when we left 2 days later.

We had bamboo parts of our roof fall on our front porch, thankfully no one was there. Staff removed the debris and offered a new bungalow if we desired, but I was leaving early in the morning with my family so no need.

The biggest issue I have is the availability of the staff. This is the first hotel I’ve ever been to in my life that does NOT have an employee at reception 24/7. We were not told, nor is it written anywhere on location on the Hotels.com listing that if desired to check out before 7am, that you have to warn a day before.

We had a long road trip ahead of us and wanted to leave early, so woke up at 5 to leave at 6am. Arriving at reception, it’s dark and no one is present. We’re told by kitchen staff that we can’t check-out and leave the key till the reception employee starts his shift at 7am.

We are forced to wait for the clerk to arrive and lose time/ground on our trip ahead. We have a 1 year old baby boy so time really is a big factor with children.

The clerk shrugged off our frustration! 😒

We were never told or warned about this policy and on the Hotels.com Iisting it says availability starting at 6am for reception.

The place is conveniently located right in front of cocles Beach and in the middle. Of literally the jungle, so youll really feel close to nature. The pool area is very nice, the room seemed to be a bit pricy as is kinda small but nice inside. The room did have a problem in the front door as won't close completely so mosquitos better be friends with. The restaurant is not functioning as you would expect from a 3 star hotel, they close 7 pm and the menu options are very limited. Staff is super friendly and courteous. Parking lot is ok although they don't have 24/7 security, just at night. The hotel is 20 min away from Manzanillo, the best beach in the area.

Truth be told, I know it's been tough for hotels and the tourism industry to cope with all the ongoing turmoil around COVID-19. However, out of all the hotels I've visited this year, I feel this hotel had the worst overall performance in health promotion and contact prevention. There is few evidence that the admin has even told the staff to use face masks at all.

Staff wasn't at all helpful or even friendly. The room we were accomodated to didn't meet our expectations and isn't worth te price we paid. The A/C was terrible.

The property was not clean from debris. We were not given a room till 5:00 and checkin was 2:00 the staff were very disorganized. Would not suggest this location to stay in. The front of the hotel near the main road looks like they have abandoned this area.

LOVED it here! The front desk staff were extremely accommodating and helpful with any and all questions we had. The place is very quiet, clean and beautiful. Wonderful free breakfast included. Just enough away from the congested hub of Puerto Viejo but close enough to bike to. Highly recommend!💕💕

Mediocre hotel

Monkeys and sloths on property and beautiful gardens. However, Jacuzzi was cold. Pool was freezing. Service was slow for check in, pool bar and restaurant. Food was mediocre, small portions and very expensive. If we came to the area again, we would try a different hotel. We stayed in a bungalow, and there was a weird smell. It was either due to the wet ground (swampy smell) or sewage overflow. We couldn’t quite place it.

Wonderful staff, HARD mattress

The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful! The restaurant for dinner was great, breakfast was awesome, the bar at happy hour was pretty good with $4 drinks. We were on our honeymoon and they made a gorgeous towel decoration when we arrived. However, the bed was SUPER hard and I’m a side sleeper, so I didn’t get adequate sleep. We stayed in a standard room, so the beds may be different in the nicer rooms.

Loved this property setting in the Jungle. So many sloths and howler monkeys. Loved the superior suite room. Staff was great. Great beach across the road. Will definitely return when in Puerto Viejo.

Cariblue staff was absolutely amazing! Everyone we spoke to was friendly and so helpful. You really do feel like you’re staying in the rainforest too. It’s so pretty. You see tons of wildlife right at the resort, including the adorable sloth. Free breakfast was also delicious. We would definitely go to Cariblue again.

Great location and we had our own semi private pool. We were literally across the road from the beach and it is a very nice beach. The buildings appear older and bugs easily come in. The staff and management are very kind. Very friendly people. Restaurant has good food, good staff.

Overpriced & low expectations book another place

We got charged again once we got the hotel after 7 hours driving the staff argue and never reviewed my printed reservation or proof of payment they just asked to pay the room once again. The internet wasn't good enough to call and the signal reception wasn't good. The shower floor was covered with some green fungus and the toilet water was yellow. The bed make a lot of noise and you can hear other people voices thru the wall. My recommendation is to look for another option because some fees where similar and offered much better customer service. Once I noticed is that every time I book with hotels.com I never receive the same treatment as other guests and they leave us at the end to be attended. Also every time I take the opportunity to know the place I found that no matter how upgraded my room was booked they always offer the crappiest room of the hotel. The traffic is crazy and as per my experience I can find much better choices in Puntarenas and guanacaste. The buffet breakfast is too basic and simple for $12 you can eat tastier and fresh at the local Town, unless you're looking for an artificial experience I don't recommend you pay for this. The owner requires to be more conience about many things specifically modern customer service and how bad news spread fast.

Property in beautiful surroundings with excellent staff, dealing with older buildings which are not well maintained. Security is awesome and accommodation comfortable, except that neither the air conditioner (old) and the toilet did not work properly. The keys did not work.
