The jungle courtyard with so many exotic animals was a bonus.
Marise the owner gives everyone a tour to start. Clean, spacious, lots of towels, bag of the best CR Coffee, AC, fans, dishes, toaster, BBQ, burner and pots by pool area.very kind owners.
Restaurants very close and good selection of dishes. 1.6 km to bus station and town.

Everything was perfect!! the cottage (studio) met all of our needs. The kitchen had everything we needed. The best part were the owners! They took us on a tour of the property to show us all 5 of the sloths as well as the 2 across the street on the beach. Town and the national park were a 15 minute walk or a 4 minute drive.

The property is a mini animal sanctuary, with many agouti running around and sloths hanging in the trees. Many birds and frogs and even a kinkajou, although hard to spot. The hosts are very nice and helpful, Marise will make sure you and comfortable and Pierre will tell you all about the wildlife. The room is clean and comfortable, although there is no AC, so keep that in mind. It is walkable to Cahuita although a couple more min out of the way than some of the other hotels, wasn’t a problem to walk to the beach, park or city though. Overall safe, comfortable, and friendly, I would recommend a stay here especially if you want easy access to sloths and wildlife out your front door

A lovely 3 days in wonderful surroundings

A lovely 3 night stay in beautifully maintained tropical gardens and well kept comfortable 2 bed cottage. Lots of wildlife in the gardens and trees including Sloths. Hosts were fantastic and nothing was too much of a problem. Beautiful swimming pool and right on the beach. Plenty of places to eat within walking distance.

Just across the street from the ocean and beach, a beautiful, secluded property. Each room/cabins has private outdoor space. Our quad room had great mini kitchen type amenities. Ocean waves, sloths, parrots, toucans, iguanas, tree frogs and CONSTANT agoutis running around! A little paradise. The owners are very helpful. Our only complaint is that it was a bit of a walk from town for our six year old’s legs, but we knew that up front so the property can’t be faulted for that. Just lovely in every way! Beach toys, towels, and chairs all included too.

Place is run by 2 passionate owners. They shared local ideas and advices in between pointing out slots, iguanas, toucans that inhabit their wonderful property. Couldn’t recommend that place enough and can only be jealous of next guests that will be staying in Maria and Pierre’s property.

Bird watcher’s paradise!

This CNN is a bird watchers paradise. Amazing natural property. The room # 4 had a squeaky bed but a great veranda for watching birds. Extra small table and chairs in the room would have been good. The use of the BBQ at the pool was wonderful!

Our bungalow was extremely nice, spacious, comfy beds and with basic kitchen supplies to allow us to cook basic meals. The. Grounds were absolutely beautiful and well-maintained. The hosts were generous with showing us the local flora and fauna, the large, clean pool was an added bonus to cool off and entertain our daughtet. The hosts even allowed us to use the pool and store our bags until we could check in to our next hotel as we had accidentally not booked an extra night and had to stay somewhere else one more day. Cannot recommend more highly!

A must stay place!!

If we could give this place a higher score, we would. Extremely polite owners and staff that have created an absolute paradise within an already existing paradise of Cahuita in Costa Rica. The country is truly beatiful and we had plans to hop around accommodations, but that all changed once we came to Playa Negra Guesthouse. What was intended as a two night stay, we immediately booked to stay an additional two nights longer. Just the wildlife alone within the property grounds are amazing, thriving and abundant and the owners go the extra mile to show you where all the critters and wildife are hiding if you have trouble spotting them. The hospitality of the owners is bar none and we look forward to staying there again another few nights on our return back up from the south side. You want peace and tranquility in paradise, look no further!

Loved everything about Playa Negra. Beautiful, magical garden and pool. Meticulously clean and comfortable room, with a veranda. We could hear ocean waves and howler monkeys in the morning. Great walkable proximity to National Park and multiple restaurants. The owners are incredibly helpful, kind and knowledgeable. We stayed 6 nights and hated to leave.

This is our absolutely favorite place in Costa Rica so far. We have been traveling for 2 weeks, still a week to go, and this location has everything! We are staying here 3 nights. Beautiful gardens, animals, excellent owners and staff, safe and secure. It has a pool and right across from the Caribbean Sea. It is a short walk to Cahuita. We will definitely come back.

I loved it. The guesthouse is lovely. Marise was very helpful and cordial with any questions we had. You can hear the howler monkeys while you sleep and there is plenty of wildlife on the grounds; right outside we saw a sloth on the ground a few feet away. Cahuita is a lovely town with few tourists. You can get a feel for local life. There is bike rental place a few feet away and a reggae bar in walking distance. The ocean is across the street. Cahuita National Park is a must see with plenty of wildlife and a gorgeous beach. All around it was amazing and we had an amazing deal. My only suggestion would be to improve the wifi service in the rooms. Aside from that I loooooooooved it!!! thank you!

Beautiful place, nice room and pool, great owner!

We were greeted by the wonderful French lady owner, who gave us a short but informative tour of the place, including showing us where to look for sloths, birds, and other animals on her place. She was very kind and helpful. The place as quiet and uncrowded, and even our cheapest room was lovely and comfortable and breezy. We were never too hot. If you can spend more, she has several very charming and beautiful cottages on the property. Overall, we were very comfy and happy with both the owner and our stay. You wont go wrong here, its right across the street from the black sand beach, and a peaceful and lovely place with pool for a decent price. Highly recommended.

This was our third stay at Playa Negra Guesthouse. We see more wildlife on the property then at the National Park. Daily we saw toucans, sloths, parrots, howler monkeys and more. Pierre and Marise are wonderful hosts. Pierre will take the guests on free tours. It is an amazing place. I have nothing negative to say. The cottages are beautiful and have everything you need.

Amazing location right opposite the beach, far enough from town to be completely peaceful, but close enough to walk (8-10 mins). Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable, there is plenty of wildlife on and around the property (sloths, frogs, agoutis, iguanas, howler monkeys), and the hosts are really friendly and helpful. I loved this guesthouse.

From the moment I arrived I was made exceptionally welcome with a friendly greeting, excellent check in- where lots of local information and recommendations were provided.

The gardens are stunning and extremely well kept, supporting lots of plants, which in turn attracted hoards of wildlife. Within the first 5 minutes I had seen 3 sloths, many iguanas, a poison dart frog, a toucan, a troop of howler monkeys and loads and loads of hummingbirds. The owners have a fantastic knowledge of the wildlife and local area and are more than willing to share it, in one of many spoken languages there!

My room was lovely, with a private balcony overlooking the pool & gardens, with an ocean view to the other aspect. It was sparkling clean, and well stocked with crockery, cutlery, toaster, fridge and a kettle& coffee maker.

My hosts were fabulous, and were so helpful, with so many thoughtful extra gestures.

I absolutely recommend this guesthouse, and if I return to CR I will without a doubt book to stay here again :-)

The gardens and pool are extremely beautiful and the hosts are super nice. Pierre gave us a very enthusiastic tour of the National Park, pointing out all sorts of animals we would have missed otherwise: sloths, monkeys, bats, and two mortally venomous eyelash vipers. The tour definitely has commercial value but Pierre refused payment.

On the downside, to be honest, the power and internet was sometimes on; sometimes off. Understanding that these utilities are beyond the hosts’ control, our overall experience still averaged out to far above our expectations.

A beautiful and caring guest haven in Cahuita

Our stay at Playa Negra Guesthouse was amazing.
The hosts, a French couple, are absolutely fantastic. They’ve put a lot of effort into creating and maintaining a beautiful, safe and homely guest haven in the Cahuita area. They personally take care of all their guests and help making the whole experience of the area great. Their staff is also wonderful.
The property grounds are beautifully landscaped and immaculately maintained. We also sawn wildlife directly on the property grounds, including iguanas, morpho butterfly, sloth, agouti, and poison dart frogs.
The rooms are either in standalone whole cottages or casitas, or in a two-story cottage. But no matter which size you book you’ll have your own nicely furnished patio or balcony. Even the smaller units are very spacious with large bathrooms, and well equipped.
The larger cottages have full cooking facilities and plenty of room and space inside and around the cottages, set in a beautiful garden.
Everything is neatly kept and provided for.
The location is perfect too. It’s quiet and right across Playa Negra( just a few steps to the beach), in walking distance to the dock ( where you can take snorkel boat trips), the entrance to Cahuita National Park, and the village center of Cahuita.
We will definitely be back!

We had a fantastic, and memorable stay at Playa Negra Guesthouse. Marise and Pierre go out of there way to make your stay really special; we ended up spending 4 days with Pierre as our guide, showing us some amazing highlights of the local area. We wouldn’t have spotted all the amazing wildlife without him or been to all the beautiful places - all free as well! The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and a great place to relax; lovely pool, lots of wildlife. The rooms are spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped. The location is perfect - literally right on the beach, a number of lovely restaurants are bars very close by and easily walkable into central Cahiita & Cahuita National Park. Playa Negra guesthouse is a great find and amazing value. We hope to be back.

Great owners! The husband walked us around the property and nearby beach area and showed us sloths, toucans, iguanas and bright frogs. Beach is across the street! :) It’s close enough to walk to town but still far enough to be quiet. Very safe and secure. Clean pool and our apartment was nice too. The only small problem was that we were a little hot when we tried to fall asleep, so maybe ask for an extra fan for your room if you like it cold? The owners are very accommodating and had great suggestions for restaurants too.

We stayed at Playa Negra Guesthouse for six nights in the blue cottage at the end of April. The owners, Pierre and Marise, are wonderful hosts. They made us feel very welcome and were available to answer any questions we had. They also provided recommendations for where to go and what to see. The Chocolate tour recommended (Caribeans) was particularly good, well worth the time and effort spent, a real learning experience. The eateries recommended were also very good. Finally, the National Park walking tour Pierre took us on was a great experience. Pierre is very knowledgeable, the tour would not have been nearly as good without his guidance. The Playa Negra property is a fairly large compound that is meticulously maintained. The plant life is absolutely beautiful and there are many bird species as well as animals to see on the property. The pool area is also very nice and a real plus on a hot day. The blue cottage is clean and nicely maintained. It has a basic kitchen with fridge, microwave and cooktop along with basic cookware, utensils and dishes. It was very nice to be able make coffee in the morning and a simple breakfast to start the day. The best feature of the cottage is the large porch which is also the living/dining area. Sitting on the porch looking out at the yard and listening to the birds is the get-away experience we wanted and the blue cottage was better than expected. If we had a complaint about the cottage it would be the bed which was hard.

a place across from the beach, within a walking distance from the Nat. Park, which will also mean close to the main st. with lots of places to eat, and find lot of activities. Horses, yoga, kayaking and more.
Marise is a terrific host and the resort is beautiful. The rooms are lovely, comfortable and coffee was provided with a maker and refrig. Convenient Parking and the entire place is secured. Pool and grounds are exceptional.

INCREDIBLE PLACE!

WOW! truly breath-taking! the first night that my wife and I spent in Costa Rica we spend it here and what an incredible experience it was. The location is incredible, surrounded by nature and the beach is literally across from the hotel. Right outside our bedroom there was a palm tree, and in the palm tree every day a sloth would come up there to take naps. The hospitality was outstanding, meeting and exceeding every expectations we had. I recommend this place 200% and it made us feel so much like home that we can't wait to go back.

Lovely Guest House.

Marise was a great host. She gave us a bag of great Costa Rican coffee upon arrival and cooked us a delicious breakfast our second night.The location was perfect. Less than 100 feet from the beach once you are out the front door. A lovely, quiet location and only a 10 minute walk to the center of town. We extended our stay as opposed to heading down to Puerto Viejo. The rooms are a bit dated but very comfortable and spacious. The kitchen made our stay. Marise's husband, Pierre, gave us a wonderful tour of Cahuita National Park. He showed us caymen, snakes, monkeys and plenty of sloths. We were there with our five-year old and loved the accommodations. Pool was lovely too. Fantastic grounds.

Wir hatten trotz 3 Tagen Regen einen wundervollen Aufenthalt. Wir haben es geliebt, morgens durch den Garten zu laufen und die Vögel und anderen Tiere zu beobachten. Ein kompliment auch an den Gärtner, der scheinbar unermüdlich den Garten und (trotz Dauerregen) den Pool pflegte.
Auch das Green House war groß, komfortabel und die Betten bequem. Die Küchenausstattung war etwas eingeschränkt, aber ausreichend für unsere Bedürfnisse.
