Staff was very accommodating and helpful, but the institution is worn and lacking some basics. Poor plumbing, lots of mosquitoes, no elevator and I don’t think there was a way to communicate with the front from the room. My impression was that the breakfast provisions were somewhat meager and barely satisfactory.

The hosts were so gracious here. I was worried about the boat ride across the river, but it was never a problem. We had to leave early for our flight and they packed a breakfast for us. That was so kind! A wonderful place to relax, I wish we could have stayed longer.

Great in many ways but strong musty smell in room

The staff at this hotel all deserve 100 stars. They are the nicest, most welcoming staff we’ve ever experienced in Thailand. They truly made our stay.

We loved the character, staying here is like staying in a piece of history, that was wonderful. We also loved that it’s quiet, on the river where it’s cooler, and away from the hustle from the busy streets of Bangkok.

Mr.Lou the boat captain is the greatest guy! But… unfortunately there was the strongest smell in our room. Musty, mildew, hopefully not black mold. It was a very strong smell, strong enough that I left sick after staying here for 4 nights. My husband wasn’t as affected as I was but we both left glad to get out of the strong smell. This property is trying hard, it has dehumidifiers, and split air conditioner in the rooms, but it’s an old building and has probably seen its fair share of flooding in the past.

Wonderful pool and gardens, really loved many things about it, wish our room didn’t have such a strong smell. Otherwise we would be back. Maybe we’d try a different room? It was full when we were there. Our room was downstairs. You can also hear the people above you.

The property itself is wonderful but does require a little more upkeep in some areas. Some of the cobblestones are a bit wobbly and at night it’s easy to misstep. However, the staff were wonderful and very helpful at all times.

A few suggestions would be to have someone working the pool bar, especially when there are people at the pool. Or to have them checking the pool area throughout the day.

Also, the ability to get picked up from other piers, especially after the hop on/hop off boats close, would be an asset. We missed the 7:15 boat from IconSiam and had to take an overpriced cab back to N13 only to find it locked up. Slipped through SheepShank to get to the pier.

All that said, we’d definitely return.

The Praya Palazzo is right beside the bustling Chao Phraya River, with all its boat traffic, yet remains quiet and secluded, with a wonderful tropical garden and lovely pool. Central Bangkok can overwhelm with it's dense crowds, hectic traffic, and tiny alleys, but the Praya Palazzo's private water taxi over the river whisks you away from all that to a stately and secluded refuge. A great place to recharge for further adventures

This is an unique property, an ex-private home which is only accessible to guests by it's own ferry boat service. Although this is available 24/7, it did require us to have a phone that we could use in Thailand, to call for the ferry when we wanted to return to the hotel. The food in the restaurant was very good and all the staff were very friendly. The only negative was that the plumbing in our friend's room needed repairing but the hotel were in no rush to do so. They seemed happier to mop up the leak each day rather than get it fixed asap.

A period property in a nice location next to the river. A bit isolated and there wasn’t a separate shower or enough plug points but the ambience made up for it. Dinner was great in the Thai restaurant and the service was 1st class. Nice getting around on the hotel water taxi.

This is a unique, beautiful character property. A haven of peace and calm yet so close to the Grand Palace, National Museum etc. Staff were lovely. Restaurant was excellent - first class breakfast and delicious evening meals in a wonderful setting. But the hotel is quirky, and won't suit everyone. There's no access on foot or by car. Hard to believe, but true. Only access is from opposite bank of the river using the hotel's own ferry, which responds quickly and operates 24/7. The hotel has loads of historic character, but the facilities in our room were not as good as they should have been. The bath shower was unuseable due to its design, there was no box of hand tissues and no chairs other than a hard wooden desk chair. The aircon was very old and didn't work very effectively (e.g. no swing.) There was a kettle in the room but the cable was too short to reach the socket. We asked the staff for an extension cable but didn't get one. There was a beautiful lounge upstairs, but the lights were hardly ever on in the evening, nor was the aircon. Overall a wonderful place to stay but several basic practical issues need to be addressed.

Very nice and unique period property. Attention and care to preserve original property spirit and style is appreciated.
The boat shuttle service was never more than a few minutes away! It was quick, smooth, comfortable and safe. The crew were friendly and helpful.
The restaurant is a five star. The front staff is accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly. The Chef and kitchen staff produce phenomenal dishes!
Only negative is that some areas need power washing.

Amazing staff who were very friendly and went out of their way to be helpful. The breakfast was excellent. I also ate dinner one night and it was very tasty. Location is nice, on the river, with easy access to ferries. The only issue is that the private barge does not run 24/7, which made a late night arrival quite interesting. Room was nice. The bed is more Asian style and hard, so not as comfortable for me, but adequate. Would definitely return!

The old mansion is really lovely, it’s spotlessly clean and the service is friendly, although very slow. The location is an interesting one. It’s beautiful and quiet, and nice to be on the river, but it’s not very convenient because there is no road access. They do try their best to make it as hassle-free as possible by providing a shuttle boat across the river.

I enjoyed having the ferry come pick us up at the dock in order to get to the property. There was only a couple times there was any delay and it was less than 15 minutes. They provide you a local phone in order to call them each time you need to get picked up. I found the set meal in the restaurant very very delicious and one of the best meals in my 16 day trip. The restaurant is pretty expensive by Thai standards. A/C kept the room cold and the room was very spacious.

From the pier you are walking distance to Khao San Road which is a great area to hang out, eat, drink. There are plenty of drivers also near the pier that you can either get quick rides or barter for a driver for the day.

The property itself is beautiful with a rich history. I recommend.

Stayed here for our honeymoon and had a fantastic time. Was initially pretty worried after reading some negative reviews about the rooms, but those were completely dispelled after getting to the hotel. The hotel itself is very nice and relaxed. The rooms are slightly older but they’re definitely a step above average, not like some of the reviews portrayed them to be. The staff was probably the best part of the stay - always courteous, helpful and communicative. Never had a problem accessing the boat even when we came back late nights after sightseeing. The only slight I had is that the pier is closed at night and you wait outside on the road for a few mins until the boat person comes and let’s you in. Would be nice if they had a waiting area for guests. But overall I really am glad I booked at Palazzo rather than any of the regular commercial hotels out there.

This small Gold miner after a hectic day in Bangkok, it is like coming home to a relative in THE country side. We had a great stay in the most charming olika palace, The bar by the på and service from the nice staf made this a \"want to go back\" stay.
It is not the most luxtories, newest, lagest but the most charming and relaxing.
Getting in their service boat över till the pier for the Express boats or back from the Night marketing, walking distance. Probably One of the best ways experience Bangkok.

Incredible location across the river from all the “action”. It was wonderful to spend the day sightseeing and then take the boat across to this oasis of tranquility and have a drink around the pool, have a relaxing swim. Very civilized.
Our room was spacious and clean. Even if some of the details were not authentic the overall effect was very pleasing.
The staff was beyond helpful. The front desk crew wrote adresses of places we were going in Thai so we could hand them to taxi drivers. Amazing.

First-class service in an amazing property - a former royal palace, a beautiful, wonderful Italianate, turn-of-the-century building, manicured grounds, delicious Thai food from the restaurant- we were there only briefly (I wish we could have stayed longer). It was beautiful and old grandeur. However the rooms were kind of damp, very small and inconvenient. Example the bathroom has zero place to keep your toiletries or hang your bathrobe. The room was tiny- & mine was supposed to 352 square feet but with the huge furniture which took up most of the space there was hardly any elbow room left. The breakfast buffet is pretty crummy too- just a tiny omelet checked off with whatever you want on it, white bread, cornflakes and another cereal, juices. There was no change or flair to this buffet. The outdoors is more beautiful but inside your room it is dated.

I would describe this hotel as ‘faded grandeur’ - charming and quite beautiful, built in a European style. The fact that you had to catch a boat to get there was a novelty and conveniently the boat was available 24 hours a day. The staff were amazing - warm, friendly and eager to please. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we felt we were looked after very well. Breakfast was delicious and served in the grand dining room. Our rooms were comfortable - lovely big beds. There were a few cracks here and there, but that’s what you would expect in a building of this age. The only negative is that we ate dinner here one evening and were disappointed after reading good reviews about the food. I would recommend this hotel as a peaceful and calm retreat from the busy atmosphere of Bangkok.

The property is beautiful and the room very comfortable. My average overall review has nothing to do with the staff or conditions - they were perfect.

The problem is location. The Expedia write-up does not make it clear, the special instructions it takes to reach the property. I spent 2 hours looking with the help of taxis for the hotels location. It is highly recommended that you reach the hotel via boat but as a late booking, I didn’t get this instuction before I began looking for the property. If I had arrived in country during the day, it would not have been a problem but I was a very late night arrival.

A hidden gem in Bangkok

Very warm welcome. We got an upgrade and a lovely room. The pool is very well maintained with pool towels. This boutique hotel is a genuine secret gem in Bangkok with very good furnishings. The pick up by their private boat at pier 13 is a very attentive and effecient set up as the hotel lends you a mobile phone for the length of your stay to use for arranging being picked up at the pier.
Breakfast is excellent with British and Thai breakfast fresh juices cereals yoghurt fresh fruis. Rooms are very spacious and well appointed. WiFi is good.
I highly recommend Praya palazzo.as a hotel to stay.
The staff are extremely helpful and have contacted on my behalf Nokair to sort out my flight transfer as the original have been cancelled. We have decided to return to the hotel on our return to Bangkok before the end of the holidays.

Wonderful little gem, just across the river. Perfect for a relaxing stay, perhaps less so for busy people going to Bangkok for work, as the river crossing, although the hotel staff is on call 24h/7, does add to the commute. Serene oasis in Bangkok

From the moment you are picked up with their private ferry, you are transported to an oasis in frenetic Bangkok. Lovely staff. Beautiful grounds and pool. Relaxing common spaces. This was our first trip to Bangkok and we will return.

The entire staff was amazing and made sure we felt comfortable and safe by doing there best answering all our silly questions. The hotel grounds, restaurant and pool made you feel like a VIP! The food and service was amazing, with big, clean rooms. I never had any problems with incidentals being supplied to include huge clean towels, hand soap, coffee and water, delivered daily!!

I wish this hotel many years of success. They deserve it!!

Was a bit worried that only access was by boat but you ring them and they are there in a flash 24/7 . All Staff fantastic great pool and excellent food in the dining room. Floor boards creak a bit but a lovely place to stay. An Oasis in a concrrte Jungle.

I had trouble with the dampness in the room - the Mansion is beautiful, but old and somewhat damp for my health. The GM was very accommodating in trying to help me and advised that they are aware of the problem with some of the rooms and will be renovating those in June 2018. It is a peaceful place in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Fun in that it has its own ferry to bring you over to the hotel

Fantastic historic hotel with amazing service.

We had a fantastic stay. The hotel is across the river, and it was never a hassle getting the boat to take us across or pick us up. Most times, they picked us up within 5 minutes of our calling. They gave us cell phones to call them when we needed to. The furnishings are a little dated, but fit with the historic building. The pool is really nice, and the restaurant is top notch. I will definitely stay at the Praya the next time I am in Bangkok.

You can have a quiet and relaxing time at the Hotel while a lot of bars and great restaurants are in walking distance on the other side of the river. Boat service is very fast. The staff was amazing. The hotel was everything I had hoped for. Staying on the river was a big plus for me. It was only a short boat ride to the city. Even if you don’t stay the night I recommend the Pray Palazzo restaurant for the best food in Bangkok. I will definitely recommend this place and hopefully come back again soon.

You be careful taking Uber to the hotel

Since we booked through ebookers and not the hotel web site, we did not know that you cannot drive to the hotel. You are supposed to get to the hotel using their private boat shuttle from pier 13 across the river from the hotel.

Our Uber driver and we were stranded in the midst of of the nearby neighbourhood with no foreseeable way to get to the hotel. We called the hotel for help. We were immediately rescued by the hotel staff, who carried our luggage along the sea wall to the hotel.

We made a memorable entrance and greatly enjoyed our stay. The hotel is nicely situated near the Grand Palace, but still is very peaceful. The boat taxi was very convenient and added a sense of adventure to our stay.

The staff was very attentive and made us feel welcomed in this wonderful Italianate Villa-turned-hotel.

Access is only by boat, which is not an issue, but actually adds even more charm to the Hotel: the Hotel provides free boat service; it's available 24/7, at clients request, and it takes them less than 5 min. to pick you up at Pier #13 (Hotel will provide you a mobile phone to call them, for free).
Boat trip from the Hotel to to Pier #13 (and back) takes just 5 min. There are many river-view restaurants close to Pier #13, and a nice shoping/pubs/restaurants area at a walking distance (less than 5 min.)

We have been coming to this hotel for two years now when we need to come through Bangkok, since it offers peace and tranquility in a nosy and stressful city. The staff are all very friendly, and the property itself has character, charm and a certain graceful elegance. We love to look across the river and see all that busy stuff going on as we sip our drinks by the pool and enjoy a quiet evening of rest.

This is a lovely 1920s traditional Thai mansion that is definitely not the run of mill \"bed-in-box\" experience. It is very cool that the hotel sends a boat to pick you up and deliver you to the side of the river where everything is...but that has its downside too since bad weather can prevent the boat from running and no roads go to the hotel. The beds and pillows are as hard as a rock which is typical in Thailand but be prepared to ask for extra duvets to add some element of comfort. The staff is extremely helpful and gracious. The breakfast is made to order but the choices never change. Overall, highly recommended for a weekend stay but probably not for much longer. Terrible wifi connection depending on which room you are in.

This is an old place that the owner try to keep it original, it's nice and quiet. In my opinion some improvement will make huge different, like change the mattress to more comfortable, fix shower head or replace them, get better TV channels
Services are awesome, They will treat you like a king ( almost )
But over all I was happy even though it's a modern hotels with stars. It's some thing different and it can be romantic

Very quiet away from the hustle and bustle

First class service. very friendly. Perfect to get away from the hustle of central Bangkok. Remember that it is a boat to get there which is very lovely. Don't expect chain hotel experience. It is a very personal hotel, very quiet and has a boutique feel.

Great grounds and small colonial ambiance, very well styled pool is awesome view of the river is okay but this places real charm is its history and romantic design and feel. Very old very cool. Will come back for a longer stay. You can get here by river boat service.

A refuge from the noise, but still in the center!

This was a \"compulsory\" stop in Bangkok before heading for Phuket. If you like the old world style, this is it! Old villa type quiet hotel, only accessable via barge. Transport is complimentary. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Nice pool! My only negative experience was the shower. Akward access to shower handles. Otherwise I liked this hotel. The location is another plus. Walking distance to Royal Palace.

Interesting experience, taste of history

Staying at Praya Pallazo is an experience that brings you in the past, at the beginning of the century. Wooden floors, old but stylish furniture, rooms filled with history, big and beautiful garden on the riverside, everything makes you feel special, like belonging to a different world, more calmer and elegant. It's the perfect place to escape 21 century and the rhythm of the town.
The manager is at your service any time (he gave us cellphones to communicate local). The boat that take you to and from downtown is available 24 hours. You can have breakfast and dinner. There is good wi-fi.
It's not a five stars accommodation but it's worth it.

I thought they wouldn't service well as we are Thai (since Thai customer normally not give a tip) but turned out that they had an excellent service, very polite, and respectful. (so I tip them finally. They deserved it)

Even though it only can get to the hotel by boat, but the boat is 24/7 free survice.

My mom just wish it had Thai language on the menu becuse it is Thai hotel and sure Thai customers are here too. And I wish it had different bf menu on the different day.

The bottom line, we had a great time. I really recommend.

Cheap ingredients not real juice coffees were always cold cheap bread.

Damp, over-priced

This hotel was horrendous, I booked for 5 nights and had to cancel the rest of the booking as couldn't stay there. The whole hotel was so damp, so much so the wallpaper that they had put on to cover it was peeling off. I got sick from staying at this hotel due to the mould and damp. The sheets were wet and all our clothes, this was just from one night. I complained at the time and then had to check out the next day. Was lucky that I hadn't pre-paid for this hotel as checking out may have been a different story. I will now be complaining to Expedia directly for a refund.

A Wonderful Hotel

LOVED our stay at the Praya Palazzo! There was 13 of us altogether as we prepared for our wedding, and the staff could not do enough for us. They were extremely accommodating with our big group, were extremely friendly, and would do anything they could to make our stay more enjoyable. The hotel itself is beautiful; a historical building with great character. We did have a couple of leaky roofs when it rained, but I suppose that's to be expected in an old building and the staff jumped straight to it and helped sort it all out. The hotel is situated right by the river and it's nice and peaceful - a nice break from hustle and bustle of Bangkok, but a 2 minute boat ride to the other side of the river and you were among lots of a great bars and restaurants. Anyone interested in staying here - I would definitely recommend it - we loved it!

Upon arrival we were so impressed with this place. It looks beautiful! Once we settled in we noticed that the property could use a bit of attention. There were some cobwebs high up in the rooms, ants on our breakfast table, and the exterior could use a little touch up. Also, the information said that there was a lazy river, soundproofed rooms, and a pool bar. There was no lazy river, you can hear everything in the rooms, and the pool bar wasn't open and appeared not to have been open for a while-We were there for a slower time of year though. I would not have a problem with any of that, but just thought the information was misleading.
Although this sounds like a negative review, it's not. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling to the area. The staff was so friendly, professional and accomodating, the location was great, and the charm of the property was wonderful. I would stay here again!

The hotel location is wonderful and the boat service excellent. The grounds of the hotel are a bit rundown, artificial grass did not enhance the garden and the sun loungers had plants growing out of the cushions! The pool bar was closed so there was no where to sit outside and enjoy a drink in the evening

Enjoy a world of charm, elegance and luxury

The Praya Palazzo is a gem of a hotel, charming and elegant, and feels like one is stepping back in time. Arriving and leaving by private boat one feels very special, and we enjoyed the comfort and taking in the views every time.
The grounds of the Palazzo are beautifully kept with large palm trees, vines, flowers, and birds tweeting. The pool is lovely. We had one exquisite morning where we took our breakfast poolside. No one else was there and we felt like we had our own private mansion to enjoy.
The breakfast is delicious, service is attentive and it was something we looked forward to each morning. We also had dinner at the restaurant : delicious cocktails to start with, a unique menu to choose from and the food was exquisite.
Every morning and afternoon we enjoyed a swim in the pool and we were nearly always the only ones using it. Being in a lovely pool as boats pass on the river was deliciously special.
Some things need to be updated at the Palazzo, such as the poolside cushions and the white lace curtains in the room. The hotel provides a nice espresso machine and espresso which we enjoyed making in our room every morning. They do not stock alcohol in the room however and we found the options in the minibar in the room to be very lacking for a five star. The staff were courteous though and brought up our requests to our room.
The concierge service is good.
We would definitely stay at the Palazzo Praya again and recommend it to our friends.

While this place could use a bit of a renovation, the location--right on the river-- was fantastic--as was the price. The heart of Bangkok is the Chao Phraya and you cannot get any closer. The boat ride was always available, with little or no wait. So we loved this place. However if you are looking for the Oriental, you have the wrong location.

Great historic mansion hotel

Great hotel with a very nice riverside setting. Who wants the generic high rise hotels when you can have an historic Palladian style mansion with a nice swimming pool in a nice lawn? Not I. I spent a long weekend here, and I found it very relaxing. Who cares about floors that creak? That is a mere detail. Yes, the rooms need updating, mais c'est la vie. I found Praya Palazzo to be very relaxing, and I look forward to staying there again the next time I am in Bangkok.

Best Hotel in Bangkok

I am so glad I stayed here! I did a lot of research and read multiple reviews before choosing Praya Palazzo and I was not disappointed! It was truly an oasis from the craziness of Bangkok. After all day of sight seeing, shopping in markets, it was wonderful taking your own private shuttle back across the river. The staff is very friendly and the grounds are so nice - walking or sitting in the garden was peaceful and rejuvenating. If you want the high tech/ultimate comfort, go to one of the high end chain hotels. But if you want true relaxation and peacefulness, pick the Palazzo. You won't regret it!
