It was a relatively good experience staying at this property, but I did feel very isolated and somewhat unsafe in the evenings traveling as a woman alone. When staff was at the front desk, they were very kind and available. It was impossible to get water after the first day, which was kind of weird and there was no way to get coffee or anything to go. The pool was freezing, but the grounds are very beautiful. I would recommend going there with a partner, family, friends, but not solo.

My family and I stayed here for 1 night. The place is not too far from downtown. The facilities are very run down. We found lice on the bed and the ladies did not care to bring someone to clean. We got moved to a different room. If you go during cold weather, be aware this hotel is not equiped to handle cold temps. They had to buy blankets for us because it was really cold and they did not have heaters. Other than thos details and if management would try to clean mor often, this hotel has potential.

The place was beautiful from the outside the view of san miguel allende was expetacular but when entering the room it smelled musty all the furniture was super old including the decoration, doors, ceiling, beds we could not sleep just thinking that someone would come in for the door, when we rented the place through the application we thought it would be good given the images but when we got to the room the reality showed something very different.

The property is located on a cliff overseeing the city center. The rooms are huge and have a couch, chair and desk. The only down side of the visit is the fact that the rooms do not have heating and although the front desk provided one electric heater for one of our two rooms, because of the size of the rooms, it wasn’t nearly enough. Also, the swimming pool was not heated - you would think that given the cold weather, it would be an automatic setting.

Beautiful big property with great views! I wish I could have spent more time at the property to enjoy the pool. It was about a 7-10 minute walk down to the plaza, which we enjoyed during the mornings, but would Uber or take a taxi at night.
The staff were friendly and very helpful. Would definitely stay here again.

The property was wonderful, about 15 minutes away, walking distance. It was an unexpected workout from the downtown area but we enjoyed it! The staff/reception members were extremely short with their answers and were more focused on their cell phones than customer service, except “Efrain.” Efrain was kind and very helpful with suggestions.

Need to fumigate against roaches. Get new towels. They are thorn and look like rags. It is highly recommended to train your employees. Some of them lack experience, initiative and they do not make enough effort to show interest at their job. However they are nice people, but with lack of experience.The cook is ok. He is friendly and nice and very helpful. In most European countries the Continental breakfast include yogurt, cereal and juice. Make the same effort to treat a local as well as you are with foreigners.

The outside of the property is well maintained but the staff is not helpful...my room was not very clean when I walked in...I was given a fan that barely blew low speed air and asked to get a new or bigger fan but never got it...the bar area is always closed and they don't sell beer...I asked for ice (since I had to buy my own beer outside the hotel) but the staff wasn't sure weather or not to sell my their last bag of ice because the kitchen might need it later (they could have send any of the staff to the store and buy more instead of giving me a hard time)...the free breakfast is ok (tortillas were ice cold)...this place looks like someone invested a lot of money but the staff or the new owner is letting it die...slowly...

The hotel is nice and pretty, and it has an amazing view. The staff was friendly and helpful. The one thing I disliked the most was that there is no WiFi in the rooms, which is essential for foreign travelers. Before you book you must know that getting from the hotel to downtown San Miguel (where the cathedral and the plaza are located) is complicated since there are no Uber’s in that area and it takes a 15 min walk in a steep rocky. Also, the area around the hotel is kind of shady, since it is located on an alley. It’s a nice affordable option to go to San Miguel, and if you are traveling with family it is great since there are huge gardens and a pool.

The view is spectacular and the hotel is pretty well maintained while keeping that rustic look & charm. The front staff is absolutely wonderful, always available and always greeting us each time we passed through. We stayed in a suite which had plenty of room. Would be nice to have screens or some sort of filter/barrier on windows to have them open more. It is located in more of a residential area off the main streets but the property has a gated entrance and staff is at main entrance all the time. Always felt safe with 2 kids as well. A great place to stay!

A lot of amenities written on Expedia are not true. First of all, most staff don't speak English. There is no safety deposit box, so I had to carry my valuables with me all the time and was stressed out about it. The front desk is supposed to be open 24/7, but it wasn't. I had to check out around 3 am because my flight was early. There was no staff available because there was nobody at the front desk. I called the front desk number, but nobody answered. My room was really far from the lobby and there were a few stairs and slopes on the way. I had to bring my luggage to the lobby by myself around 2-3 am. The lobby was dark and the front door was not locked. It was scary while I was waiting for an Uber. If any Uber had not not been available, I could have missed my flight because I could not call a taxi on my own. Another horrible thing was that housekeepers were demanding more tips by harassing me. (not giving me bottled water or small towels) I had never experienced this anywhere else. The only positive things were pretty good free breakfast and a very friendly, attentive server who spoke English fluently at the cafe. The cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch. The room was a little rustic, but it was reasonably clean and spacious. Wifi connection was also bad. I didn't have any internet connection in my room most of the time. Going to the city center from this hotel takes 15 min. (walking distance) It's a serious downhill and might not be safe for an elderly person.

Beautiful views but little else

I would give the gardener the highest marks, but beyond that, not many more. The grounds and the views from the common areas are gorgeous. The location is not so convenient, you could walk to town but a steep hill and a very narrow street awaits you. The staff was courteous but seemed very limited in what the were able to do. There was no Internet available for the two days we were there si they were limited by that and an apparent lack of flexibility and/or abiliy to help beyond the basics. The rooms were comfortable and large but lacked ventilation, A/C or heat or any sort of view -again, no internet in the rooms so can’t comment on that. Breakfast was good but the times were inflexible. I think they start at 8:30 and even if you ask for an early coffee, you’d still need to wait for regular times. With the beautiful infrastructure they have, they have a lot of untapped potential which I wish they would take advantage of.

Mirador del Frayle let down.

The best thing about this hotel were the views and the external landscaping. The room had no a/c nor any ceiling or standing fans. It was not well cleaned, lots of bug remains and dust along the walls, in the corners and under the furniture. There was no WiFi available in the rooms. To get access to the available WiFi, we had to access the reception area WiFi. That only worked around the reception and main public areas of the hotel. The only meal available was breakfast and that started at 8:30 on the weekend, so good luck trying to eat and then getting any activity done early. My rating would be a Two Star motel level at best. Other than accommodations, the trip itself was wonderful and San Miguel is an amazing place to visit and explore!

Worst Hotel Option in San Miguel

Apart from the incorrect information provided on their own webpage as well as the information they provide to Hotels.com, the staff is incompetent and rude. For example, no one will say: Hello! Welcome to our hotel. No one will carry your bags to your room, provide you with the remote control for your TV, provide you with towels for their pool, explain anything about the hours for breakfast, or even provide you with a map of the area.

San Miguel de Allende is an incredible place to visit, filled with so many great hotel options that will provide you with the customer service you deserve as a paying client. Mirador del Frayle will gladly take your money but they will make your stay miserable. We go on vacation to enjoy our time - not to battle with employees who make our stay miserable. Don’t choose this hotel no matter how low their prices may seem in comparison to other options. They will absolutely ruin your vacation. You do not deserve that.

Good location/view, about 15min downhill walk to downtown, our personal experience was not good at all, when we first arrive to the hotel, we asked for recommendations of places to visit, the front desk immediately turned us down by saying there was nothing to do since it was a Sunday, that bars were going to be closed and that there would be no \"callejoneadas\", downtown was packed, there was a big fun event going on (film festival) and we were out clubing until 2:am, had a lot of fun, front desk was not very tourist friendly. After walking into the room at night it was extremely warm and it had no ceiling/floor fans or A/C, I went up to the front desk and the guy was sleeping, I tried waking him up and could not even though I yelled. I went back to my room and called front desk to see if he woke up to a phone call and nothing, had a rough night overall. Next morning we noticed a couple of dead cockroaches on the floor, a lot of mold on the bathroom walls too and ended up bitten a lot by mosquitoes inside the room. I would no recommend this hotel based on my experience.

Don't attempt parking in town center.This hotel had free parking and was very accessible from highway without having to navigate the unfamiliar, extremely narrow cobblestone roads. Our room was charming and very spacious and clean. A 15-20 minute down-hill walk to all the sights, artesians and restaurants.
Would recommend return to hotel via taxi (50 pesos) unless you are super-fit!!

The check in process was fine. Our room was larger than expected, but was 2 storeys with a tiny spiral staircase to the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. It was too awkward carry suitcases up the stairs and we left them below on the main level. The bathroom had that sewer venting smell you often find in Mexico, which is very disappointing in a hotel. We also booked a room for my parents and they had a more typical room with 2 queen beds, and still very spacious. Their bathroom essentially flooded when they showered, and the hotel must know as there was a separate drain beside the shower (outside of the shower). They had a portable heater in their room which they used, we didn't have one in our room. They probably would have provided one if we had asked.

The breakfast was very basic and small portions. The room to eat breakfast had an awesome view of the city. The internet was not reliable and when we asked about it the staff didn't know and didn't seem to care. There was one young staff person who seemed quite hospitable and was lovely to deal with (he helped with luggage and attending to guests, was not at reception desk). We were woken every night by dogs barking.

The location has a nice view and technically close enough to downtown, however it is very steep and not an easy walk. It was not ideal for my parents so we ended up taking taxis to and from the downtown. I would have enjoyed walking more but it just was not comfortable.

Worst Customer Service EVER!

Don't stay here, listen to me ... don't! Girl at the front desk was the rudest and not willing to give any customer service at all. I booked two months before my stay, called when I booked requesting a room that was handicap accessible. Back then they told me they didn't have that kind of room but that they would give me the room closest to the office (front). Once we got there the rude girl said, the only room I have is the one I have you, which was the farthest in the property. I had someone in a wheelchair and the lady did not care. Not only the room was far but was hard to get. It was super small and with a full bed, not even a queen. The tv was old and with a very bad signal. There was no A.C. at all, only an old fan. I spotted a dead scorpion under the bed. We decided it was time to leave. We were in the room for like 30 minutes and were on our way to another hotel. The girl saw me at the front carrying the luggage all by myself and didn't care to offer any help. Once I told her we were checking out, all she said was, ok. Not even offering any suggestions or even asking why we didn't stay.
Unless you want an awful experience as mine then stay here, if not, then definitely go somewhere else.

Breathtaking view of the town below along with old world style rooms (deluxe 2 queen bed suite). It was peaceful bliss having my coffee outside in the morning listening to roosters, doves, birds, a train and then the church bells all over town below. Quiet place located high above the town within houses. Full breakfast included with the price of rooms. All this makes up for the fact that there is no ice machine or soda machines. You just plan for what you want to drink and bring it to your room. You can get canned cokes, etc from the mgmt. until the restaurant closes at 12 pm. Breakfast only. I can't wait to go back!!!!!!!!!!!!

The hotel was beautiful. Not good location. The hotel has no heat. It was freezing and they wouldn't give
us a heater until the last night (4 nights). Hotel was practically empty, yet they did not provide ice for drinks
and for breakfast they ran out of bread for toast and had to go to store to buy more. We didn't wait. Yet
the wait staff were all very polite. The view was beautiful but would not stay there again.

The hotel and grounds are well kept and quite stunning. The view of San Miguel from the grounds and dining area is amazing We had trouble with the wifi in the room, no bottled water, no coffee as advertised, no working TV remote control. Our room was cleaned at a minimum (new towels and soap), no dusting. The worst was the noise from other guests' dogs. They were barking all night. You can hear people walking. One of their staff climbed up on the roof of our room in the middle of the night, why?. We complained, but nothing was corrected. Breakfast was included and was very minimum, so be prepared for COLD eggs and fruit EVERY DAY. The location was fine for exploring the city. We walked to downtown, but the walk back up the hill was strenuous. The price was too high for a hotel at this standard. Staff don't speak English so there are problems with language also, but we managed somehow. We love the city and will probably return, but to a different hotel. Management needs to correct those problems.

Do not stay here if it is raining

We arrived in San Miguel on a rainy day in March. We were disappointed to find that this hotel is quite a distance from the attractions in San Miguel. When we entered the room we found that the floor of the entry way was covered in water. Apparently when it rains, water runs under the door into the room. The room has no heater or air conditioning. The floors are tile and there are not rugs or carpets and the floor was cold. I thought a hot shower would help warm me up but there was not hat water. I tried to call the front desk but found that the telephone was not connected to anything. The cable was missing. When I went to the front desk to complain, I was told by the clerk that everything was \"failing\" because of the rain and that she couldn't do anything because she just worked there and besides no maintenance service was available on the weekend. By the way, the WiFi was not working either. It looks like it may have been a nice hotel at one time but they have just let it go. The lobby, restaurant, etc. were eerily empty and dark.

Fabulous view of San Miguel, but that doesn't count when you are cold to your bones. There is NO heat in the hotel. When asked they gave us a small electric heater - our room was huge. No carpets to warm the room or our toes. The hot water was lukewarm at best and the water pressure was almost not there at all. No coffee anywhere in the hotel. Was a cold trip!

No heat, No coffee, Bad wifi, and a long walk!

The hotel is located high on a hillside and is about a 15 minute walk from the main square. Walking down is not too bad, but you will likely want a taxi to take you back up. Next time, I will opt for a hotel closer to the square. I was there in November for the dia de los muertos celebrations and it was very cool at night, (below 50 Fahrenheit). The hotel has no heat, so it was pretty chilly at night and in the morning. There is no coffee maker or mini-bar in the rooms, nor is there room service. The restaurant did not open until 8:30 AM, so there's no chance of getting coffee before then, unless you leave the hotel. Finally, the wifi did not work in my room. I was able to connect in the lobby and when I was near the lobby. The staff was very friendly, but that could not compensate for the other shortcomings.

Very nice hotel with a breath-catching view

I simply loved the hotel. Very beautiful colonial-style Mexico, plus a great view of the town. I could have stayed all day at the hotel if I didn´t have all of the activities planned-- and there so much to see in San Miguel de Allende. The hotel staff are very nice and the room was spotless! I can´t wait to return

Awesome experience at Hotel Bicentenario

The hotel is clean, nice, the personal has a great attitude of service and tries to make you enjoy every service from the hotel and helps you with guidance of what to do, where to go, where to eat at the city. The city has a lot of magic and history so it is a must to take a couple of tours, one in bus one walking, to meet every corner. The city is small but colorful, great place to rest, enjoy, eat well.

Outstanding views

The hotel sits on the top of the hill, the views were incredible, and the grounds were perfectly maintained. The Hotel is now the BiCentenario and this caused some confusion with taxi drivers and getting the bill taken care of. I would recommend the hotel to my friends, but make sure they know how to bill Expedia or they will charge you twice for the room. I am still waiting for my refund, 3 weeks later...

Great Pet Friendly Hotel

This was one of the few \"pet friendly\" hotels we could find in San Miguel de Allende on Hotels.com. Overall the hotel was great. The rooms were clean and service in general was good. The hotel is not centrally located, but they have a free shuttle that takes you to and from the main part of the city. At first I was hesitant about this aspect, but it turned out to be great. Especially for my dog b/c there were more green areas for her to run around freely in. Also the view from the hotel resturant in amazing; it overlooks the city of San Miguel, and also the pool area was nice as well. The only portion of the hotel that I would say needs improvement, was that our air conditioner was broken, and when we asked for them to fix it they said they would, but never followed up... Also, they had changed the hotel name from La Vista to El Centanario, which caused a little confusion upon arrival, but overall wasn't that big of deal.

Las instalaciones son muy coloniales y muy hermosas por fuera, las habitaciones limpias pero por el estilo en los armarios huele mucho a humedad y hay hongos en el techo, en el baño huele un poco a caño. Servicio muy bueno, personal muy amable. Demasiado complicado para llegar si no posees coche.
