I travel to Xiamen several times a year for business meetings. I like Marco Polo Hotel because it is near excellent genuine espresso coffee shops and European style bars and restaurants. Their club floor also provides excellent drinks and service. Their rates are always quite reasonable.

Joan, one of the breakfast chefs went above and beyond by making extra pancakes and helping to make sure I had everything I asked for for breakfast. Absolutely wonderful experience, after we check out on Saturday, we left our luggage at the hotel In the morning and plan to take it before Heading to airport. It was so hot and when we back to hotel, we are sweating from head to toe, their reception staff : Crystal was so nice to offer us to use their shower room at the swimming pool. Ready a feeling of home. We definitely back again.

Great hotel but a little dated. Overall is was a good stay and i’d stay again.

They do need to police people wearing masks etc at breakfast. They gave out masks and plastic gloves but didn’t make sure people wore them. Pretty pointless giving them out of people don’t use them.

Great 4 night stay!

Stayed there 4 nights prior to Christmas break.
Super friendly staff the moment you arrived at hotel.
Great dining options in the area with a good mix of western and Asian food. The dining within the hotel was great, we had teppanyaki, Thai food.
Wish the Christmas music/presence is a little louder, but I definitely understand maybe other local customers might not celebrate Christmas. Overall a great stay. Will come again:)

One of the ‘venerable statesman’ hotels of Xiamen

Impressive hotel inside, with vast open internal space up to the 7th floor ceiling, and the rooms all built around that. However this can mean that if you get a room on the opposite side of the internal ‘courtyard’ to the lifts, it can be a bit annoying walking around the edge of this vast open space to get to your room! I guess the hotel was built 20-30 years ago when land wasn’t such a premium in Xiamen, as it is literally wasted space.

Amazing Japanese restaurant on 1st floor with brilliant teppanyaki menus. The breakfast buffet is pretty extensive and you will find plenty there to enjoy.

Rooms are very nice, although feel slightly dated compared to a brand new hotel in China.

It’s about 20-40 mins by taxi to airport, depending on traffic and time of day.

Great staff, old and tired hotel

Great staff but an old hotel. In my room I could hear pipes clanging when guests in the room above me showered. I could hear people talking the room next door and above and in general, the room are just old and tired. I travel a lot with work and I can safely say it’s no longer a 5 star hotel.

We enjoyed our 9 day stay-friendly staff who remembered you and everything you require in the way of comfort and convenience. The location is perfect with walks available around the lake and shops/restaurants on the streets behind the hotel.
The only criticism was the over eager pool attendant watching me swim and offering me a lifejacket.

Great location and great service. I had the Continental Club Lounge room. Nice that the mini bar in the room is also complementary and refilled everyday The lounge had a good breakfast and a nice variety that was changed up everyday. Happy Hour was also very nice. A big shout out to Zoey and Sophia for excellent service. Will stay here again for sure!

Book the premier room. It's so much better and bigger than the deluxe or superior room. The view is amazing. The room is big, clean and quiet. The staff is courteous. Our special thanks go to Crystal Zhao at the front desk. When we checked in, we forgot to bring the old passports which have the visa page. Without it, it could be a problem for us to check in. Crystal has gone above and beyond to reach out to the officer at the police station to get a waiver. As a result, our trip began with a beautiful start and we didn't need to waste half a day at the police station. Much appreciated and will definitely stay here again!

Location is a bit far. We booked a room and formally requested one extra bed. The request went through. When we arrived the manager suggested us an upgrade, saying that there's not enough space for the extra bed for the room I booked. The staff brought us to visit an executive room and told us we had to add RMB380 per night for the upgrade. We agreed with the deal. But when we got down to the lobby the staff revoked, and said we had to add RMB680 instead. So we decided to stay in the original room. And there's enough space for the extra bed.

I have used Marco Polo hotel since the mid 90th. The location is perfect close to all the cozy restaurants along the lake. This time I had a suite which was still quite affordable. It was very elegant and comfortable.Absolutely recommended. I will most probabøly stay at the same hotel during my next business visit, and I guess I will book the suite.

I was given a room on 3rd floor with doors opening onto the pool which was nice. The room itself though was a bit tired if you looked upwards. Concierge staff were great with bags and helping to get taxi etc without expecting a tip like in USA, it felt quite genuine. I would stay there again, buffet breakfast has a good choice.

I like the hotel room, very spacious and clean. During my stay, I had an experience of water leaking from the roof in the middle of the night, likely from the air-con. I called the room service and someone came to see the condition after about 10 minutes. It was a mess after they fixed the leak. I requested for another room and was allocated one at the top level. Good service level.

Very nice hotel but...

Really nice hotel aesthetically; it's very clean and comfortable, the breakfast is well done, has a nice medium sized fitness area and the lobby area is beautiful.

The downsides are that the walls are very thin - we actually heard someone's phone vibrating in the next room one morning when we were in bed, and there was a constant sound of water from other bathrooms. The front desk staff was okay but didn't really make us feel welcome and when we asked for something a little out of the ordinary (whether we could prepay a taxi through the hotel because we were going to the airport to leave China and didn't want to take out more cash if we could avoid it), the guy laughed at us as though we were crazy for thinking that might be an option...? He wasn't the nicest guy to begin with but that was a bit much.

Anyway, overall, it was good and we didn't have any big issues, just the thin walls and weird checkout experience.

Absolute best place to stay in Xiamen

Here is the real deal: I've lived in Xiamen for several years before, and now come back frequently and always stay at Marco Polo. Why? Simple, it's the most convenient location and you have everything you could need within walking distance. Also, the staff are great and concierge service fantastic. If you are going to stay somewhere while in Xiamen, make it here. Great bar street right behind as well.

Marco Polo Xiamen is not the newest hotel, however we left with a very positive impression as it is well maintained and managed.
My only complaint is that we could hear everything from the neighboring room through the adjoining door. Luckily our neighbors weren't too noisy, but it was as if we could even hear them breathing.
Other than that, the breakfast buffet was great with a nice variety of western & Asian choices as well as fresh squeezed juices.
The neighbourhood was really lovely with a good selection of restaurants and shops that seem popular among locals/expats. It is also a short walk from the ferry terminal to Gulangyu and not too far from most tourist sites. I would definitely recommend this hotel for other visitors to Xiamen.

It was my second visit to Marco Polo, Xiamen this year and it was very pleasant both times. The staff is extremely professional and helpful. Rooms are very clean, comfortable and well furnished.

The breakfast is remarkable (included!!!!), as is any other dining (not included) in the hotel.

Check in and out took merely minutes.

I travelled to Xiamen twice a year on business. I stayed at this hotel twelve years ago and I remember that there was nothing spectacular about this hotel at that time other than its \"age\".
After recent stay at this hotel changed my view of this hotel, after the renovation, it is by far one of the best hotels I ever stayed in Xiamen.
The hotel is nice and clean, the services is superb. The variety of foods at the Club lounge is plenty yet tasty.
Cleanliness and quiet atmosphere are what I like the most.
Cathay Pacific is on 2nd floor and HSBC in walking distance. Marco Polo Xiamen, I will be back....

Clean rooms, but staff need to be more attentive

The rooms are clean enough with all necessities included as of my expectation. We enjoyed having breakfast in their dining area since it provides a better selection - with some famous food in Xiamen - than other hotels I have booked in China. The hotel is located next to the lakes in Xiamen island, and there are some nice coffee shops and bars around the area.

However, the service provided is really disappointing. The staff really need to pay more attention in my booking of two rooms - one smoking and one non-smoking - there is no point of asking me repeatedly if I mind two non-smoking rooms when it is already mentioned in my request.

I am also shocked with how the hotel is managed. When I arrived at 11pm, the staff asked if in the morning I have checked in already, and I answered no, but the other staff asked me again with a skeptical look. Meanwhile I noticed them photocopying the identity page of every single person staying in their hotel. After a whole day of commuting we just want to rest as for the following day we need to catch a train in the morning, but we are somehow held there with the staff phoning their colleague if they have checked in for the wrong person.

Overall, the facilities are completely fine, but the service definitely needs some improvement.

A fantastic hotel in a fabulous location.
Next to the lake and cafe street, plus a street of bars around the corner...means you don't need to leave the area if you are so inclined.
Very impressive foyer and lounge bar.
Recommend upgrading to The Club Lounge floor, as the quality and quantity of the food and drinks was impressive.

I have stayed at the Marco Polo Xiamen probably 20 times over the past ten years and enjoy it every time. This time I had a few spare hours and walked the neighborhood and along the waterway. It's a great lively neighborhood with fine coffee shops and unique restaurants and the waterway is truly lovely and peaceful. The only issue I had a few times is that English at the front desk was not as good as it should have been for a top international hotel. The breakfast buffet is excellent as well.
