Breakfast selections were good.

Very difficult to communicate when most of the staff do not understand simple English words like water and towels.

The room where the toilet is located had sands all over the floor and the trash can had dirty black socks in it, which means it was not cleaned?

With the hotel WiFi, I was not able to check my Google email accounts, fb, YouTube, and safari/chrome.

My only complaint is that when I was checking out, I had questions and Winnie wouldn’t answer me. She just ignored me. She didn’t acknowledge that I was talking to her. That was rude. Especially when I just asked how much I was charged for the deposit because it wasn’t showing up on my bank statement. The hotel should have record of how much was charged and how much will be refunded.

Lack of hospitality

The female receptionist was very rude, impolite,was talking to the other male receptionist in her language while we were trying to ask questions.From the beginning she wasn’t quite wanted to help us in any way.
The room windows were open a lot of dust was in the room and it was too late to ask for any one to clean the dust on the floor so we thought the next day it will be cleaned but the room hasn’t been mopped off dust until we left which resulted in severe asthma attack since I am allergic to dust .
I was using inhalers all the time in the room and was unable to sleep or enjoy my stay in Shanghai due to asthma .
Since the receptionist was rude I didn’t want to ask her for any other help such as room cleaning so I asked the concierge Travis , he promised to attend to it but the room wasn’t cleaned off dust .
I couldn’t sleep and has been suffering from asthma all throughout my stay .
The concierge do nothing about organizing tours , they recommend an illegal marketplace which we were sent by a shuttle car trying to sell us products underground.
The hotel is located in a very convenient place but I don’t think I will ever come back or send any friends because of the lack of hospitality.

The rooms are very nice with hard wood floors and a bidet in the bathroom. Floor to ceiling windows offered nice views of the area.

Really nicely located hotel for the Bund and historic areas.
Let down a bit by some basics - room key card didn't work, WiFi didn't work, some excellent staff, some condescending staff.
But a really nice corner room and the good staff were a pleasure to interact with.

Sunrise on the Bund was one of the best and unique experiences we have ever had. That is saying something because I used to be a travel agent and we are current hotel owners. It is beautiful inside and out. Clean marble everywhere and amazing decor but it was the staff that really got our attention. From the prompt response to the initial email requesting shuttle information to the concierge staff handing us umbrellas as we left in case of rain, and every moment in between was a pleasurable and memorable experience. The breakfast buffet is extravagant and tasty. They have washlets!!! Smiles from every staff member and a concierge staff that honestly cares about you.

This is my third stay with the hotel. I like the location which is near the river with a sidewalk that I can take a morning walk each day, but it's a bit far from the tourist area. The hotel facility is maintained well enough. The soundproof is not the greatest.

I was greeted by a team of professional and welcoming hotel staff upon arrival, and it was a great way to begin my Shanghai trip. The service level of the staff here is one of the best things that I liked during my stay. Check-in was a brief, and I got to my room fairly quickly. My room was clean, and the space was just adequate. Me and my girlfriend thought that it was much smaller than our room in other cities in China, but it's Shanghai, so we're not complaining. I'd say, if you have 3 or more guest staying, stick to the recommended guest number of the room that you're booking, and you'll be fine. The view from my room was not bad as I got a glimpse of the Oriental Pearl Tower from my room. There's even a bathtub in the room, though it might be a tad too small for some. Location of the hotel was perfect for the both of us as we enjoyed a nice walk back from the Bund in the evenings. The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful, and there's a couple of convenience stores nearby. Faciliaties were good as well. I like to swim during my travels and I was glad that the hotel has a heated pool that you can even swim in during fall/ winter. Breakfast was average, but again, the service level of the staff was good. Overall, I enjoyed my stay in this hotel, and I'll definitely consider staying here again when I'm back next time.

I had a good stay overall. The entryway to the hotel is gorgeous. The room was small but it was clean and comfortable. Not much room for luggage and very little closet space. The bathroom was actually spacious and clean. Heated toilet seat was a nice feature and the shower had good pressure with hot water and a good shower head. The location of the hotel is not actually on \"The Bund\" but it isn't too far off. During traffic I actually walked and it wasn't terrible, about a 20 minute walk from The Bund area. There's not much near by and the area around the hotel is pretty ugly. Not much by way of restaurants either. There are a few restaurants in the hotel but they close mid day and re open in the evening then close again a bit early so I was only able to eat at the downstairs bar in the lobby. I had a bacon cheeseburger, it wasn't good. When it came to breakfast I was disappointed. Not a great selection and the food quality is mediocre. For a room with two guests only one breakfast was included which is odd. We ate two breakfasts one day and out of three days that was all. They still charged me for the second breakfast even though I didn't eat the other two days. I really don't see the point but it's Shanghai and everything is super over priced so the rate I got at the hotel was fair enough and I'd go back again I just won't opt for the room package with breakfast.

Everything is great, if I have to pick something out it would be... the walls are actually pretty thin on level 7 (lol). Also lost a spoon (which comes as a set with the mug, cleaner might’ve accidentally thrown away). Downstairs staff are just amazing!! Especially John at the concierge ;P (I’ve been doing quite a bit of online shopping and he has been amazing picking up all the packages for me XD let’s just say there was quite a few... and I have them delivered almost on a daily basis)

Great hotel for the price

We stayed for four nights in May 2018. I thought it was a good deal for the price. Rooms were very clean, roomy and comfortable. Breakfast was a buffet with pretty much everything you'd want. Staff were lovely, although communication was occasionally difficult as we didn't speak Chinese. Had a great meal at the Teppanyaki restaurant where they went to great pains to make sure I was well catered for as I have food allergies. Gym and pool were great (you do need a swim cap for the pool). Note however that although 'on the Bund', it is further North from what's considered The Bund. Lovely by the river, but be aware it's a bit of a walk to the livelier part of The Bund so to speak. Not too far from the metro however which was super easy to use and very cheap. On the whole, a good experience.

Nice hotel to stay in Pudong.

Room is perfect, clean and nice. But the air con seems will not run in early morning till 11:00am, room become warm and increase to 24.5 deg C......My setting was 18 deg C in evening and works well It could wake me up because too warm in early morning. The breakfast is good for refreshing fruit juice, bread is nice. Hot dishes just so so, Overall Ok.

It is a great hotel in a very good area of Shanghai. Slightly out from the beaten track, but nonetheless very interesting.
The room was very good, but the bathroom was in need of a slight upgrade.
Well equipped Gym, with Swimming Pool and a nice SPA.

Only a tiny problem: Room service didn't provide slippers when the slippers were thrown away (The slippers were used 4 days) on time. Also the laundry bags were not replaced after we did laundry. We called the reception when we came back in evening but they said room service was off work. Anyway, in the following day the problems were solved. All good!

Hotel did not get my reservation from expedia

Arrived to my booking; hotel could not trace it. Even showed them it online but they refused to help check me in and told me to contact Expedia. Would not let me use their phone to contact Expedia, had to call Expedia and got it sorted as I had a Chinese phone I was able to do this using all my credit up for my trip. But if you didn't have a phone you could be left in the lurch.

Room was small(even though they stated a free upgrade I think they were lying as only small space around bed) Bedding was exceptionally comfortable.

Location is a 30 min walk from Nanjing Rd and the Bund.. Shanghai is a huge city and the location may or not suit everyone. For me it was no problem as I was there on business and in and out of Shanghai

Very near the Shanghai Jewish Museum.

Very nice hotel. Even has a pillow menu for you to select different degrees of firmness. The Tilanqao subway is 5 mins walk away. When you return to the hotel, use Exit 3, come out of the station, turn left and just walk straight till you come to the Gaoyang road. The Bank of Nanjing is at the corner of the road, next to the hotel. Actually, if you look up at the skyline, you will see the hotel name Sunrise on the top of the building. Diagonally across is a convenience store. Otherwise we didn't see anything shopping or restuarants nearby. Quite a few construction going on. Probably when these buildings are completed, there may be some shopping and restaurants nearby.
But don't miss the Shanghai Jweish Museum. The museum is a few meters after Tilanqiao subway. It is just a straight walk down the road about 10 mins. You won't miss it. I highly recommend the museum - it was the best part of our 2 days visit to Shanghai and so near the hotel.

I was in Shanghai for several non consecutive nights on Business and stayed at the Sunrise on the Bund hotel. It was luxurious, clean, well staffed and the rooms were perfectly sized and included every possible amenity.

Although it's about a 15 minute walk to the Bund area (very straight forward once you get your bearings) I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone traveling whether for business or vacation. I will definitely be staying here again on my next trip.

Great Hotel but not on the Bund...

Great facility 10 min away from the Bund. SPA facility is just great but the room size is tiny with old fashion TVs and \"no brand\" music centers. Breakfast is good but very expensive for China (138 RMB = $28). Hotel main business is the Tourist Groups who got deeply discounted rated with breakfast included. There are no any restaurants bar around beside the ones belong to Hotel (Captain's Bar downstairs and 2 Oriental Restaurants on the Second Floor).

We stayed here for two days after our air B&B turned out to be this artist's loft which was really stunning but a 30 minute walk from a subway stop that was 40 minutes from the Bund. For the room price, the quality was fabulous. We were both very relieved, and agreed that we needed someplace more 'civilized'. We certainly got it - there was high tea every day in the cafe near the lobby!

Accommodations and amenities are excellent in every way. Staff were gracious and tried to help, despite limited English speaking ability. Breakfast offered good variety and was well prepared, but rather expensive at 134 RMB, making it the single most expensive meal of any kind during our entire time in China.
Biggest caveat is the location, about 1 mile from the Bund and other tourist sites. Walking and directions were not a problem for us, but location and lack of English-speaking assistance could be an issue for a somewhat less independent Traveler.

Great place to stay, off the beaten path

I was very pleased with my stay at Sunrise on the Bund. It's a little off the beaten path, but it's close to many things to do in Puxi, either by taxi, or by Metro (Tilanquiao station, about two blocks away). My room was very compact, but very comfortable for a single traveler. Might be a little tight for a couple. My view included the Pearl Tower.

The neighborhood is Hongkou, and has an interesting as the Jewish section of town in the years leading up to WWII, and after Pearl Harbor, the area became the Jewish ghetto.

Definitely a great room for the price. Excellent workout facility. I didn't use the pool -- they require a swimming cap, which is a little odd for a guy with a shaved head. The breakfast buffet is quite good, though like most of these, it's a bit pricey, but still worth the convenience.

The hotel is much better than I expected . The lobby is a bit old fashioned but it's ok , I am not staying there . The room is spacious , with a touch of the old fashion style which I like it. The bathroom is very good - the most enjoyable part during my stay - it's clean , spacious , morden ( compared with the rest of the room) and with the Japanese style electronic toilet !
Just the location is a bit off from the center , but such issue has been reflected in their price which is lovely .

It would be better if they can clean the carpet of the room a bit ..

I think I will stay there again .

The service was excellent. I found several members of the staff to be friendly and helpful. My room had an elegance to it with high ceilings and nice architectural detail. The bathroom was awesome especially the shower's water pressure which felt like a fire hose!!! The ground floor lounge/restaurant was exquisite. It was very tastefully decorated with beautiful stained glass Shanghai scenes, black and white photos and lovely couches, chairs and tables with nice artwork as well. The only problem I had was my phone's wifi connection dropped while I was feasting on a burger in the lounge.

A little far away from the action.

Having to wear a swim cap when in the pool is not convenient. They charge 20 yuan if you do not have one. Hot tubs are in the male/female locker rooms, so you cannot relax in one with your mate or family. If you do not get a room on an upper floor, your view out your window will be mediocre. This hotel 7 minute walk to the metro and a 15-20 minute walk to the tourist area. Not much to speak of immediately around it.

Out of the way but a gem.

This is my type of hotel...traditional elegance in decor and service. Chinese restaurant was beautiful and the food was excellent. Breakfast was good for the price. Only complaint is location. One needs to be a trooper (or cab it) to get here. Two subway stops and a transfer away from the nearest touristy destination. Short walk to subway station is fine but not pretty. I will stay here again because once here, its terrific.

A bit tucked away from the main Shanghai sites, but this is maybe a benefit.
Has a nice smell of flowers and incense oils throughout.
The external elevators have a wonderful view of Pudong.

Over all, it's the best in SH. It's classy.

I have one day business suddenly come up and I found this not only available and very reasonable rate. I always want a good hotel. I love the swimming pool and spa, nice and good privacy.
I had a very good workout in the morning.
Staff is prompt and very helpful. The next day is a big rainning day and you won;t get a taxi anywhere in Shang-Hai, but hotel has car with discount to guest.
They took me to Puo-Dong desitination, RMB160, with brand new BMW. Driver is great, and next time rent whole day to go aournd.

Lovely hotel on a side street

I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is 5 star in all respects but location. Cab drivers can't find it and is in a hutong/factory area. BUT, it is about a mile from the Bund and compared to what you would pay 2 blocks closer, it is a bargain. Probably the biggest thrill is when your jaw drops when the cab driver finally locates it!!!

We just spent 3 nights at this fabulous hotel (Oct 2014). One of the best quality price hotel we experienced worldwide. Try to get a room with a direct view on the Pudong. Magical (particularly on night). Luxurious large bedroom with living room, large marble bathroom with bath, shower, 2 sinks. English speaking staff. Incredible breakfeast buffet and other restaurant in the hotel. Free spa access including: pool, hot tub, dry and wet sauna.***** stars.

They turn off the a/c at night, but workers nice

Overall, the hotel was a good experience, but we had 2 problems I'd like to share.

1. The first night (in September) I woke up at 4am sweating. We are used to sleeping at 21-22C. When we went to bed, everything was great. Then they turned off the a/c at about 3:30am and it rose to 24C. I went down to ask about this and they recommended we get an electric fan to cool us down. I continued to request that they turn the a/c back on and they finally relented. In our 4 night stay, they never turned the a/c off again. I get away for vacation to relax and to sleep a little extra and they turn off the a/c on me in the middle of the night to save a little money (really, what do you save $2-$3???). I assume this is their standard practice, unless you tell them to do otherwise.

2. We booked a 'superior' room for about $90/night, but it turned out to be extremely small. For an extra $45/night we upgraded to a deluxe room. Much larger and a better fit for us and our kids.

Although I was frustrated with the a/c issue, they had excellent customer service besides that. Alex at the Pool was very gracious when we showed up without swimming caps and let us borrow some for free until we were able to buy our own. The housekeeping quickly got us extra comforters and pillows for our kids. They even had a plug adaptor for my wife's computer.

Location was great being very close to line 12 on the subway. And we liked being able to see the bund from our window, especially at night.

Confirm Non-smoking is in fact 'Non-smoking'

'Had a very pleasant weekend stay. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. Reserved 2 non-smoking rooms. One was a true non-smoking room. The other had been smoked in previously so a slight odor was detectable. Not objectionable for my traveling companion who stayed in that room, but I would not have been satisfied. We did not ask for a room change

This hotel was great and cheap! The pool was amazing with a view of pudong. The Chinese restaurant there was delicious.The standard room was beautiful, clean, and comfortable. If I come back to Shanghai then I'm staying here!

OK but fell a bit short

The stay was satisfactory. The photos are a bit of an exaggeration and make the hotel and the rooms appear larger than actual. Most hotels have a wider range of international television stations with no western sports stations represented at this hotel. As most travelers, we do experience jet lag and to be able to watch something on TV, (ESPN Int'l/TGC, for example) was lacking. Having the name \"Bund\" in the hotel name would have one think that this is \"on the Bund\".....it would be a very healthy walk to get to the Bund. Most hotels, in their rate, offer breakfast and this one did not. Since I know my way around Shanghai, I would probably stay there, again. However, if one is a first time visitor, I would think a more central location would be desirable.

slightly let down

Paid for executive twin room for two people, hotel only supply one breakfast. Rubbish! Included were executive benefits, however hotel website fails to mention executive lounge has being closed down. Afternoon tea is no where near 5 star standard...a small selection of tea/coffee and one pastry. Only decent thing was the airport transfer which was prompt. Room itself wasn't bad, nice fruit selection on arrival, however again catering for one despite get a twin room for two. Breakfast was ok, however have had better in other hotels. Swimming pool is lovely, gym has limited weights and machine. Cheapest 4.5star hotel, but really shows why it's cheaper. I'd avoid going again. Best to stay somewhere closer to the bund. Heard the fairmount Peace hotel is amazing.

Great Customer Experience - Will go back!

The staff, right from the moment they opened our taxi door, made me and my family feel comfortable and welcome. There were no issues with checking in and any request or concerns we had (which really was just one concern and it was just regarding the re-setting of our WiFi) the staff were diligent and quick to act with the great professionalism and kindness. Our room and amenities were great. Very clean and always stocked. The gym, sauna, swimming pool and showers were very good and met our needs. The Spa was great. I would definitely recommend Sunrise on the Bund. The staff were great and would definitely go back when I return to Shanghai.

Great Value for a top notch hotel

I would give the hotel almost 4 1/2 stars for cleanliness, politeness of staff and general comfort. The location worked for me but it's not centrally located which could be a big minus for first visitors but you can't beat the price. I would definitely consider this hotel again.

the hotel was nice , room was spacious , bed is comfortable , toilet and bathroom was really nice. The executive rooms comes with a free (audi car) service to pudong airport which is great. The location is quite far from the bund. The breakfast was ok not much selection and even though we booked an executive room it only comes with breakfast for 1 person so we had to pay extra.

Hotel was very nice with very helpful staff, the street which it was in was not great however the hotel was nice. Room could have been a little bigger would be my only comment but it was well appointed all the same.

Great hotel... Name a bit misleading for location

I stayed at Sunrise on the Bund for only one night after arriving in Shanghai before a week of business in other parts of China. My deluxe room on a high floor was lovely and had a great view of the city. The lobby and public areas were beautiful and the staff were generally pleasant. I would have stayed in the hotel again on my way out of China, but the Expedia price had drastically increased from my original booking (I didn't know my exact date of departure).

The location isn't really ON the Bund... it's about a 25 minute brisk walk away. You pass a Starbucks on the route :) I didn't get a chance to see the health club or restaurant but I'd bet it is first class.

Classy, beautiful hotel

Incredible hotel but be ready to spend money on cab fare (even though it's cheap). It's a long walk to the Bund (I'd say 45 minutes), but to me it's worth it because the old style luxury hotel, with afternoon tea in the VIP lounge and the grand staircase- along with the spa and pool, are delights for the business traveler or can be a great place for a romantic getaway.The staff is very friendly and helpful and most speak adequate English. I highly recommend this hotel.

good location..lacking aminities

beautiful hotel and very helpful staff. while we were there, two restaurants and the cigar bar were closed for maintenance issues. probablty would have chosen a different hotel had we been aware of that. otherwise, very nice rooms and good proximity to the Bund, although not really walking distance.

Good standard business hotel.

This is away from Shanghai activity, but don't miss the local fruit veg meat fish market 300mtrs north on the same road. Good pool for after (or before) work.
