We had the perfect view of the ocean from our room at the Sandhouse Hotel. With the windows open at night listening to the waves was so peaceful and tranquil. The employees were extremely helpful and made us feel very welcome. I would definitely return for another stay.

Hotel is on a beautiful beach. Hotel decor is victorian not beachy. Room was comfortable and clean. Entrance and exit doors took a bit of getting used to and beach access is down a bit. Would have been nice if the bar served more than just pizza, as the hotel restaurant required a reservation and was pricey. There was a very good food truck on the beach. Breakfast was really good! No air conditioning so you need to close the blinds if it's a sunny day!

I booked a double room and for some reason was booked as a single traveller
Hotel didn’t change our room and bed was quite small and not the most comfortable
After a bit of debate with hotel reception we were not charged any extra but were disappointed with uncomfortable bed
Had to show proof of purchase of what I had actually paid for room and was slightly embarrassed
We love rossnowlagh and have stayed in this hotel on quite a few occasions .food and overall trip was enjoyable but booking experience leaves a lot to be desired

We stayed in the Sandhouse many years ago and throughly enjoyed our stay in a luxury 4 star experience. This time it was as if the place had stayed still in time in every sense it is tired it is grubby and has lost its panache. On a positive the breakfast was first class and all the staff were lovely. So whilst I would not say it was a disaster the 4 star pricing was not reflective of the hotel standard.

Check in could be improved

When checking in you have to use the intercom at the front door. We expected we were too early for check in but did not expect to be told, in an exasperated tone, before we even got through the front door that check in is not until 3pm. No suggestion of how was your journey, did you travel far, your room isn't ready but please come in (out of the rain) and you are welcome to use the bar. A very poor first impression. The remaining staff were very attentive and friendly.

The view from our room was absolutely beautiful looking straight onto the beech. Enjoyed relaxing on the sun veranda on the second floor.

Staff were fabulous especially the lady thy looked after us in the dining room. She was so good with us and our wee girl.
View from the room was spectacular. The only thing that was a negative was a noise in room during the severe wind. It was coming from the bathroom

Great hotel right on the beach

Fabulous location right on the beach. We had room 320 with a sea view and would recommend anyone to book the top floor sea view rooms. We didn't eat at the hotel except breakfast which was good. We ate at the bar at the top of the beach called smugglers cove which is top notch. Had a brilliant few days and will be back

Hotel was lovely, room as advertised. Only issue was the heating. Room was very cold overnight and thermostat did not seem to be functional. A member of our group became unwell due to the cold conditions which was very disappointing!!

Fantastic stay!

What an amazing hotel, we cannot express highly enough the care and attention we received from all the staff. The room was large and prefect. The bed was extra-large and so comfortable. We ate in the dining room on one night and the menu extensive. We would highly recommend to couples and families.

Loved this hotel! The staff welcome everyone as though it was their own home — nothing is too much trouble. Food is excellent and presented beautifully. Noise is controlled so that partying at one end is not heard in the conversation areas or bedrooms.

I would describe this as a classic old European seaside resort. It's not elegant, but that's OK. Room was large but bath was somewhat small. Very clean and comfortable and staff do a great job. Ate at restaurant there all 4 mornings and nights and had excellent seafood meals (try their seafood chowder - outstanding!). Also has a pub with friendly service and music Fri - Sun. Incredible views from our room looking out over a broad beach with nice firm sand for walks. Next door is a surfing club, and we watched surfers riding the waves, plus also watched instructors giving lessons to kids. A little off the beaten bath but less than 10 miles from Donegal and well worth the effort to get there. I would definitely go back.

Business trip.

My stay was a business trip. The hotel was picked due to being near the site I was working plus it had free parking, free WiFi, breakfast and a restaurant.
The hotel and ambience was extremely nice, cosy and very relaxing, so much so I’m thinking of returning with my wife for either a long weekend away or a holiday. Can’t recommend enough, a lovely hotel with stunning scenery.

Hotel was well signposted and staff welcoming on arrival. Upgraded to sea view room, 2 floors over bar with kind advisory that live music might be a disturbance. In the event music was barely audible, no disturbance at all. See view was magnificent in return for risk!
Room spotless, shower powerful, bed very comfortable, black out blinds fantastic.
Breakfast delicious and substantial served to the table with sea view by friendly local staff. Room service scone heated to rock consistency, disappointing. Coffee in room dreadful, lovely coffee in bar and restaurant.
Views and accessibility to beach major features, hotel decor in process of necessary renewal, comfortable not luxurious. Many spaces to read quietly or relax. TV's in public bar but area too small to accomodate large scale interest for major events. TV in room perfect but a bit lonely for same!

Disappointing. This hotel needs to upgrade its facilities it is totally dated and feels like staying in a hotel 50 years ago. Bathroom fittings are not good room decor tired. Restaurant food was pre cooked and served overheated. Locality is good and scenery beautiful. Would not revisit this hotel.
