Rooms don’t look anything like advertised online. The front desk staff was helpful with check in, but I couldn’t get anyone to answer the phone for questions regarding housekeeping and amenities. We did not have the promised umbrella and chair rental and were going to be charged extra for it. The staff at the restaurants are incredibly rude and seem bothered if you place an order. Kids running around everywhere with no parent supervision. Dirty towels all over the chairs. AC didn’t work in our room and it was incredibly loud next to the ice machine. We found 2 roaches in our room. Completely disgusted and wanted to check out almost as soon as we checked in. Will not be returning and I recommend to everyone not to use this hotel.

The breakfast SUCKS! I can’t believe they charge $25 for breakfast buffet. And always have the same thing every day! At least change it up! The drinks don’t have any or VERY little liquor in them. But they still charged a hefty charge for them. Heck Cruise drinks are cheaper than this place!

We had a wonderful stay at The Island Hotel in Fort Walton Beach! One of the highlights of our trip was definitely the entertainment—it really added to the overall experience and made our evenings so enjoyable. The ocean view is absolutely beautiful and worth every moment spent soaking it in.

The staff was amazing—friendly, welcoming, and always helpful. The hotel itself was very clean, and the bartenders deserve a special mention for their great drinks and warm personalities.

The only downside for us was the beach chair policy. Considering the amount we spent and the resort fees, it was disappointing to have to pay extra each day for beach chairs—especially since we didn’t use the pool amenities. It was also frustrating that bringing our own chairs didn’t allow us to set up near the front, even if we arrived early.

Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back. That said, it would be great if the hotel considered offering complimentary beach chair and umbrella vouchers as part of the resort fee—it would make a big difference in the overall value and guest experience.

We enjoyed The Island. The shower was a bit unclean with bad water pressure and the TV was a bit old with bad sound but we had the perfect room placement.
The buffet breakfast was pretty limited and basic.
The staff was wonderful and we enjoyed that the pool was open late.
My kid loved the trivia, the magic show, and the animal show.
The resort overall was a 4.9!

The was not expected. The bathroom was too small, the air condition stopped working. Reported to front desk, they were suppose to send maintenance personnel. No show. Called back they said he's gone for the night. I called before his shift was over. They offered to give us another room, at 12 midnight I would have to packed family up. Check out st 11.

It’s a decent hotel if you like hidden fees. I’m not talking about 50 bucks either. When we booked the hotel we were told all we would have to pay was 30 something. It ended up being 50. They said it was for “parking and other fees”. They also hit us with a 250 deposit. We selected for beach view. Didn’t get beach view.
We got two small mix drinks at their pool bar and spent close to 40 bucks for that. Which was watered down. Spent close to 9 bucks for two sodas. They also are nice enough to put two bottles of smart water in your room at 8 bucks a piece if you open them. This place is a tourist trap. Will not be returning.

First- We arrived to be told there was no elevator to our building, that info was no where to be found on the website. I have a 2 year old and a huge beach wagon I would definitely never book somewhere with no elevator. The front desk staff were insanely rude. I was more than willing to pay to upgrade our room- which we did end up doing. She made it seem like I was trying to get a free upgrade. When asked where was our new room- she points to the wall and says “back there”..??? No help at all. The breakfast staff were not nice either. The staff in general are absolutely no help and not nice at all. Will not be staying again.

Housekeeping and maintenance were the only staff that were nice! Front desk staff did not help and caused more confusion. I was told fees that needed to be paid at hotel were one price and front desk staff told me something that was $100 more and they couldn’t explain why. Also, parking is $15 a day which wasn’t stated.. even though you can never find parking.. you have to go all the way to the garage which is a hassle.
Pool bar staff immediately yells at children if they swim into the bar area. Why put a waterfall that kids will want to swim into in the bar area?! Pool was nice but overcrowded at times. Not enough chairs or umbrellas. Walk right into the beach was great, but they have a ramp into the bar/seating area but no one onto the beach.

Room was crowded with unnecessary furniture. Cubby holes are not needed especially when they are broken. Need more flat space to lay luggage and hand things on. Not one hanging racking for swimsuits and towels other than hand towel in bathroom.

Overall it was a nice hotel right on the beach with a nice pool. Our building either faced the ocean or the pool. It’s about a 10-15 drive to Destin depending on traffic. They had a nice restaurant inside the hotel but never got the chance to actually try the food.

The Island Resort in Fort Walton has a great beachfront location, but our experience was disappointing overall. The resort charges a daily resort fee, yet beach service is not included. Guests must pay extra for beach chairs and umbrellas despite already paying the resort fee, which feels misleading for a beachfront resort.

The facilities are noticeably run down and in need of updating. The public restrooms near the pool were especially disappointing and reminded me more of the bathrooms you'd find at a gas station on a busy turnpike than at a resort property.

Another letdown was the towel service. Instead of proper beach towels, the hotel provided what felt like small, worn rags that were not suitable for a day at the beach.

On a positive note, the food trucks by the beach were a nice touch and offered convenient dining options with a fun atmosphere.

Overall, while the beach location is excellent, the aging facilities, poor towel service, and extra charges for beach amenities made the experience feel more like a Motel 6 on the beach than a true resort. For the price and the added resort fees, I expected much better.

When I return I would stay here again, closeness to the beach, variety of pools 2 and kiddie pool and hot tub. Swim up bar, night music was a bonus, not far from of a drive to places to eat and other activities, short drive to Destin.
Comfort of rooms… all and all our time here was a 10/10

Very disappointing experience overall. I booked three rooms months in advance for my son's graduation trip and was told our rooms would be together, but they were placed far apart across the property. The staff was unfriendly and seemed annoyed whenever we asked questions.
The rooms themselves were in poor condition. We had issues with the shower, toilet, and door, all of which appeared to need repair. For the price paid, I expected much better maintenance and attention to detail.
The only positive aspect of our stay was the property itself. The pools, grounds, and amenities were nice and well-kept. Unfortunately, the poor customer service and condition of the rooms overshadowed what could have been a great family vacation.
I would not choose to stay here again. Oh and definitely don’t book third party, That seemed to be part of their initial issue with us.

We got room on second floors and there is no elevator, imagine taking all your belongings to your room thats already ruined our first day, asked for help the house keeping couldn't even tell us where is our room! Enjoyed the pool except we couldn't get another pool towel only 1towel per day that was the staff said! It was raining the towel got wet, returned the wet one so I can dry towel instead! On the that we checked out my bills more than what on Expedia summary apparently they charged for parking fee too, why do have to charged for parking fee too?? It said resort so they can charged resort fee but you dont get resort amenities?? Oh yeah about the breakfast buffet, they charged $50 for couples but it was not kind of what you call resort hotels, I would say same level as holiday inn breakfast buffet except free 😉 I wouldn't suggest to anyone and we will not go back! There is Hilton close by I rather say at Hilton!

The rooms could have been cleaned more, we moved one of the beds and found black all around the bed, the room has just been cleaned yet we found glasses from the previous occupant. The beds were terrible. We ended up leaving a day early because I could barely move after three days of attempting to sleep. Also, don’t be shocked like we were when you arrive you will be paying a daily parking fee, a $250 deposit, and a daily resort fee that’s not included in you’re booking.

Our room wasn’t very clean and I noticed stains on towels as well as the pillows. They charge you 250 as soon as you arrive for a cleaning service fee for those that smoke or vape in rooms.. very annoying. Have to add up the parking fee yourself because it is not added when you book on Expedia which is 15 per day.. also annoying. So in the end you will be charged more than you expected for the stay. Room does not include a blow dryer so be sure to bring one. Everything else about the resort was pretty nice.

The “standard” room was cheap outdated and 80s motel style. Deeply disappointed. The hallways in some of the other areas the ceilings were molded and mildewed.

The nicest thing about the property was the outside amenities but that’s literally the only thing worth it. Even the “nicer” room were small and the water pressure wasn’t enough to wash the sand off or your hair properly. Deeply disappointed in the “resort”

Beware: photos of this property are misleading. If I could give 0 stars I would. The hotel is old and extremely rundown. Dirty, old, poor quality. The lobby is well kept but that’s where it ends. The hallway to the rooms was our first indication that things were not maintained. Dirty walls, old smelly carpet and no AC. The room is not well maintained, peeling wallpaper noticeably dirty. Shower was dirty and old caulking peeling everywhere. Hole under the sink. Old toilet. Needless to say, we were not comfortable staying here. This is NOT a four or even three star hotel. It is NOT a resort. Pool had worn out chairs and you could tell it isn’t well maintained. Walls and door are paper thin. We checked out the next morning. We left to Hotel Effie which was a life saver, a true luxury stay. I would never stay at the Island again or recommend anyone to stay there. The only positive is its location on the beach. Expedia helped us make it right which I’m
thankful for.

The room was nice, though the bathroom was a bit small. A major highlight was the food truck—it was very good! I highly recommend the blackened grouper sandwich, and my granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed her smash burger. The staff members were also incredibly kind and helpful, especially when I forgot my room key. The beach is easily accessible from the property, which was a huge plus. My only critique is the breakfast buffet; while it was okay, the $25 per person price tag felt a little high for what was offered. Overall, a good stay!\"

Unless you’re staying in the renovated section of the hotel you are basically staying in a motel 6. Walls are as thin as the towels in the room. Air conditioning units are so loud you need ear plugs to sleep at night. Kids running wild everywhere with no parental supervision. On the good side is the walk ability to restaurants, on the beach, the pool was nice. To enjoy the hot tub you will have to kick out the age 10 and under children. Pool photos include the new renovated rooms.

The property was well maintained. They had activities for kids and lived music. The waiters were very strict when it came to requests and would use the word such as it's mandatory for you to only get this and that. The breakfast buffets was basically a continental breakfast. If you wanted something else such as waffles etc. you must order from the menu at an additional cost. Guests were smoking cannabis by the large pool area during evening hours. The skunk smell was very strong in the area. Finally, a dog was barking early in the morning and went on for approximately 5 hours.

The rooms need updating, and the hotel is not very nice on the inside. If you’re looking for a better experience, the Hilton Garden Inn is a much better stay.

I will never stay here again.

I was falsely charged a $250 smoking fee after my stay. The hotel claimed a smoke detector went off in our room one time, yet it never went off again for the remainder of our stay. What’s even more concerning is that the detector is hidden behind the nightstand and does not make any audible sound, so there was no way for us to know there was supposedly an issue.

I am not a smoker and never have been. I immediately disputed the charge with the front desk, but was told there was nothing they could do. No proof was provided beyond their claim, yet they still charged my card $250.

I’ve stayed in many hotels and have never experienced anything like this. Being accused of smoking when I don’t smoke and then being charged without any meaningful way to dispute it is unacceptable. Very disappointing customer service and a frustrating experience overall.

This was my second time staying there and it great again. The staff, everyone from the person who checks you in at the front to the restaurant staff to the people who clean the rooms, were always nice. Stayed here with my 2 young son's 8yr and 4yr. Pools were great, water was clean and patios were nice. Drinks were on the spend side. $8 for a single beer. Many events for the kids.

Rooms were pretty basic, nothing to outstanding or special. However whenever room service cleaned the room it felt like they dumped a fresh bucket of sand on the floor and in the beds. Nightly I had to disassemble the beds and shake the sand out of the sheets. Bathrooms were smaller then normal at least in the room we stayed in (1070)

Other amenities were good. Restaurant food was good. Breakfast buffet was really good kids enjoyed it. Something for everyone.

The beach however was amazing as always, water warm and sand was soft and white. Absolutely outstanding.

Pictures do not match what you get. It’s got beach access and nice pools, but the room is janky. The door had to be lifted just right to close. There is no space in the standard rooms. Room is covered in sand no matter what you do. Internet is poor. Room wasn’t clean enough (look like someone spit a wad of dip into the sink, had bugs crawling around and found trash in places from previous person). We stayed one night because we got there so late. Canceled the rest and got a different hotel for cheaper and way nicer with full kitchen with dishes, soap, pans, full fridge and way better suited for families. The room at the island had a mini fridge with a microwave sitting on top. The island is for spring breakers. Price just wasn’t worth it.

almost canceled my stay after reading some of the reviews, and I'm so glad I didn't.

The Island Resort ended up being a great family vacation spot. There were plenty of activities for younger kids throughout the day and evening, which kept everyone entertained. We loved the pools, especially the heated pool, and the waterfall area was a big hit. They also had fun nighttime activities geared toward children, which was a nice touch.

The beach is literally steps away from the resort. We didn't spend much time swimming because there was quite a bit of seaweed and the tides were rough during our stay, but that's obviously not something the hotel can control.

As someone who managed hotels for 15 years, I tend to notice details that most guests probably wouldn't. There were a few minor things in the room that caught my attention, but nothing significant enough to impact our stay or keep me from returning.

Also, hotel is in an area that looks like it’s up and coming, if you want more restaurants and activities, stay in Destin.

Overall, I'm very happy we gave this resort a chance instead of relying solely on the negative reviews. We had a wonderful time, and I would absolutely stay here again.

Pool area is nice, the back patio area is nice. They have stuff for the kids to do if you have kids, you pay for it regardless if you have kids or not in the resort fees they tack on. Our refrigerator in the room quit working the first night there, lost all of our yogurt and milk we bought. The staff didn't offer us anything for the loss or did they even show up to fix anything. Our beach front door leaked and water covered or room floor one night when it rained soaking stuff we had on the floor. There is no storage space at all in a single king beach front room, or any room for that matter. Small cubbie holes around the tv area is all you got. It's located in a nice area but for what I payed per night I have had alot nicer stays in other resorts.

Overall, this is a decent getaway spot for a family trip, but I highly recommend looking elsewhere if you are planning a romantic getaway.

A lovely beach resort. The courtyard with the two pools and a hot tub is beautiful. The entire place is very clean and feels very safe. They have lots of activities (movie night, DJs during the day, restaurants onsite, etc.). If you're traveling with a dog, it is a very nice place to stay. Easy places to walk your pet. Room was nice albeit bathroom a tadbit smaller than I'd prefer but it was clean and had all of the essentials. Highly recommend this place for a beach vacation. We stayed 4 nights. Convenient drive to many great restaurants. You can even walk to a nearby pier.

For kids, this is a great place to be. The pools are cool. The atmosphere is relaxed. Now, for people who are accustomed to nice things meeting a certain standard, this place fell below the bar.

Day 1. We put our leftover lunch in the refrigerator after checking in, along with waters and Gatorade, etc... We then turn the AC down and notice it is short cycling due to a compressor issue. But how could this be? We had to wait on the room to be inspected! By 10pm it was obvious BOTH the REFRIGERATOR AND THE AC did not work. About $60 in food was dead. Water was still warm. Room was warm. It sucked.

The high point of that situation was the maintenance team that stayed late to swap out our fridge and AC. Nice guys and we appreciated them. After that, the new AC was adequate but barely, and the new fridge worked like a fridge should.

Day 2. The remote on the TV was tweaking out. Volume up was a challenge, and down usually worked. TV was finicky.

Day 3 to 5. The neighboring room door was sounding like a semi auto shotgun. It seemed like the guests in that room were really irritated about something. Their door wouldn't shut, so they were kicking the hell out of it, slamming it, you name it. I responded twice by preparing for battle. What... the... crap is wrong with that door??!!!??

I liked the nightly entertainment. I loved that the hotel is directly on the beach. We had a balcony with view facing the gulf which was absolutely amazing. I loved how the property was divided. There was a grassy area with lounge chairs that was not overly crowded. You also had the pool area on the other side on the hotel but not too far if you wanted to take a dip and then you had beach bar area with food trucks and music for hanging out. Because the property was divided into many little cozy nooks, it was like you could create your own space to relax.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is older and definitely in need of an update. Some of the guests were weird acting and stared at us (possibly racist) and didn't respond when we said hello/good morning. The direct beach access is very nice as well as the distance to the boardwalk restaurants. I would not stay here again. The rooms need an upgrade and so does the elevator. The lobby is nice and the lobby restaurant.

The Island had everything we had hoped for when booking. Yes there are \"extra\" fees for parking, resort fee, beach chair/umbrella rental etc but most oceanfront properties had the same. I booked here because I wanted an experience, not just a place to sleep. We were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary and enjoyed every minute of it. It's an older resort, but our room was modern and comfortable. The multitude of swimming pools was nice. Overall the vibe was definitely an Island one. If you're on a strict budget, do your homework on the extra fees. I was fully aware ahead of time so wasn't shocked. The breakfast option is definitely worth the money. The beach is exquisite and very clean. I highly recommend this resort and will stay here again.Joanha in the gift shop is a true gem also...loved her spirit and lively attitude. The wristlet room key...FINALLY a key i could keep up with. Fabulous idea.

The room and amenities were clean. The bar staff and restaurant staff were welcoming and attentive. The front desk had no welcoming personality. The building we were in had no elevator which made it hard to lift our luggage up / down the stairs. The website made it seem as if the beach chairs and umbrellas were included in the stay. They were an extra cost.

The best parts were definitely the pool and the beach. The pool area is very unique, fun, and one of the nicest features of the resort. The beach itself was also beautiful and clean. The location gives good access to the city and nearby attractions.

However, the cleanliness of the room was terrible. The mattress sheets had stains and marks on them, and the towels were also dirty and stained. I have stayed in many hotels and have never seen a room in this condition before.

Another issue was security and crowd control around the beach and pool area. I understand the beach is public, but it felt like anyone could freely walk into the hotel property and use the facilities. I saw many people coming in from outside and using the pool and beach access without any checks, security, or locked access points.

The room view was nice, but there was also a lot of noise during the stay.

Overall, I would only give this hotel 2 stars because of the amazing pool and convenient location, but the cleanliness issues were very disappointing.

The place is nice and lots to do. I kind of expected a little more of a classy experience with the price we paid to stay there. We enjoyed it though. We’ve stayed at other places in FL around the same costs but felt like the other properties were better and we felt catered to more.

A few negatives was that we couldn’t get coffee until after 7am when the restaurant opened. Then the staff focused solely on seating people for breakfast and it took a bit to get the coffee to go.

The pool was nice but pool towels were small and cheap material. Pool was somewhat dirty at times and other times it was clean. I’m sure it is a challenge with so many people the landscape around it too.

The gift shop says it was open 24/7 it was not. We wanted some additional bottles of water after hours and there wasn’t any vending machines either.

Parking is good, location is good but just a few simple things they could do better to improve.
