Fantastic value & superb service

I can't speak highly enough about this hotel. The property/lobby photos don't do it justice...the hotel oozes charm. We felt more like we were in the UK versus Spain, the only thing missing was a roaring fire in the common area (although there is a small gas fireplace in the cafe). The service was fantastic, especially the ladies in the cafe in the morning. Front desk was incredibly helpful with lending us charging cables and an umbrella. Large rooms, water in the bathroom nice & hot, and comfy beds (if you like firm...minor gripe is we would prefer foam-top). We were there the last week of November, and they were putting up Christmas decorations the day before we left, which made it all the more charming. Beautiful old Monk’s quarter converted to hotel has a beautiful and convenient setting. Easy walking to sites, shops and restaurants. Wonderful and bilingual staff. Hotel has a great coffee / bar area also has a buffet breakfast if desired. Staff very helpful. No wash cloths but good towels.

Classic and Classy

Beautiful old hotel in excellent condition. Plenty of public spaces to stretch out and mingle. The garden and bar are both great locations for afternoon tea or drink. I would happily return and sty awhile.

We upgraded to room that was part of the old Jesuit monastery with lots of stone, very nice. Nice green area in the back and cozy little areas for sitting. Staff was very knowledgeable/helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel!

Amazing hospitality and friendliness

Amazing hospitality and friendliness. It felt like we had arrived at a friend’s home. We had to make changes to our booking due to flight delays, but the staff made it easy for us and also made sure we didn’t have any additional inconveniences. This is an old building which used to be a Jesuit residence, but this really adds to its charm. And the patio area is nice and quiet. The hotel sits just outside of the old city wall but access is just across the street. Overall, I do recommend this place when visiting Santiago de Compostela.

Lots of outside space.

Lots of communal areas to sit, table and chairs on the terrace outside our room, also tables in the garden and in the hotel building itself. There was also a useful lounge with two computers and printers. We had a kettle in the room, the breakfasts were really good and the staff were welcoming.

Perfect place to stay in Santiago!

This place is amazing. Looks somewhat plain from the front, but walk through the door and be greater by a friendly and courteous staff. Hotel is incredibly beautiful inside with stone, wood and original art. Location to Cathedral was perfect with a wonderful Mercado just outside the front door. Worth every euro. Wish I had more than two days to spend in this charming place.

Wonderful stay after Camino de Santiago

We decided to splurge in a nice hotel after completing the Camino de Santiago. It was great to have a big, comfortable room with all the extra amenities. The service was terrific and the quiet location was superb. We woke up the next day we’ll rested.

8.31.22 Stayed in many sub par locations for same price as an upscale experience I had at Virxe da Cerca. from the front desk to the lovely young lady at the bar/restaurant, there was nothing but over the top courteous service. all went the extra mile to make my brief stay as pleasant as possible. The room was very clean and very comfortable. I look at bathrooms first (a chef thing i guess) and the bathroom was thoroughly clean and well appointed. the front desk gentleman (I'm sorry but forgot his name) set me up with my taxi to airport as well as a to go pack as i was too early for breakfast. All in All a very nice stay and will look no further on my next trip back next year.

An easy 45 minute drive north from Porto you’ll find this hacienda style hotel but we would have driven twice that to find this wonderful oasis. The surroundings were immaculate and the entire place exudes romantic charm. Beautiful windswept beaches are nearby but honestly we would have been content with the sparkling pool and the zen provided by the manicured landscape. Carla and the staff were particularly attentive and the included breakfast was just about right. Go out of your way if you must, it is worth the visit.

A very charming and special hotel with character. The hotel has a variety of nooks and crannies worth exploring. Location was fantastic. Minutes from the centre without feeling like you are in the middle of a city. Service was top notch. Staff were very attentive and helpful as well as friendly.
The room was very nice with beautiful views of the garden and countryside. Old furnishings and exposed walls gave it a special feel. The bed was soft but comfortable.The bathroom was dated and in need of an update though. WIFI was poor.
Breakfast is served in a pleasant area next to the gardens. Food was good, but not great. Coffee from a machine is always disappointing, especially in Spain. The area was clean and well kept.
Stand out feature is the gardens. These were well landscaped and full of birds. Very tranquil.

Hotel Virxe da Cerca was elegant and lovely without being ostentatious. very cozy and comfortable and the staff were incredibly helpful, especially considering I speak very little spanish. The location couldn't be better. Every time I walked out the door I had dozens of options to eat or drink within a block or two. I would absolutely consider staying here again.

Quiet room and nice hotel

The room we had was in the old section of the hotel and was well furnished. The room we had was 103 and was very quiet as it wasn't on the main road. The communal areas of the hotel (the lounge area and patio) were particularly nice to sit and relax after a day of sight-seeing. The reception staff weren't as welcoming as other hotels we stayed in on our travels. We had breakfast in local cafes rather than in the hotel so don't know how good that was and we didn't use the restaurant either.

A very good hotel

We booked this hotel due to two main facts: its location (very close to the old city) and the fact that it was a four stars hotel. The reception was very quick and polite. our room was large as well as our bathroom.
The beds were comfortable enough and their air condition made our life much better since that during our stay the temperature in Santiago de Compostela jumped to 35 C .
Highly recommended for those who traveling in the old city of Santiago de Compostela.

Just finished walking the Camino De Santiago from Irun to Santiago. What a pleasant surprise this hotel was. After a good hot bath I really did not feel much like leaving the hotel but I did. Spent two nights there and if I return in the future I certainly will try and book my reservation for this hotel.

Hotel has a good location, no doubt. However, the check in was very slow (while the receptionist dealt with the phone call) the room next door was occupied by noisy people. We had to ask staff at night and at 0600 to tell them to be quiet. The toilet didn't flush properly, the bathroom had pubic hair on.the floor and in the bath when we arrived(yuk). Breakfast is basic but ok.

Was only there one short night. Did not have a chance to really enjoy this hotel. Public parking is directly adjacent and the old section of town, including the cathedral, is close by. The room was clean and pleasant. Quiet hotel. Lots of ambience/history on the premises however I wasn't there long enough to do more than walk through the garden and lobby.

A courtyard oasis!

Good central location, just across from the city wall enclosing the Old City of Santiago - about a 5-minute walk to the Cathedral. Very nice old building, with true oasis courtyard in the middle with greenery, a bubbling fountain, and a big bird cage with golden canaries and finches. The only caveat is that Santiago is an extremely noisy city in the summertime, with thousands of young people, and the side street bordering the hotel (the side where my room was located) is active in the summer throughout the night, making it hard to sleep. Still, it was far, far quieter than for any hotel in the Old City.

Not what I expected from the price

The room I paid for had \"broken\" air conditioning so they put me in a Harry Potter-style closet on the third floor under the roof. It was a third the size of the double room I paid for and had one twin bed under a cramped slanted ceiling. The air conditioning was serviceable but after walking from France I really just wanted two nights of good air conditioning.

Waterfront hotel in the best part of Porto

This property is located in two historic waterfront buildings connected by a glass bridge over the small street that separates the buildings. The property is much larger that you first expect. Our room located on the 6th floor was new, well furnished, with a spectacular view.
Elevators are located in the buildings, but due not reach the 6th floor. As such, the hotel staff insisted on carrying our luggage up the one flight of stairs to our room.
There is a very nice restaurant on the property, which is locally popular and so be sure to get a reservation if you want to dine there.
