I chose Quinta da Pacheca to celebrate my birthday expecting a relaxing and special experience. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment.
The spa facilities were not working properly: the water circuit pool and steam sauna were cold, and the dry sauna was out of order. When I reported this to the front desk, the receptionist laughed and said the previous guest had not complained, and no solution was offered.

On a positive note, the reception and restaurant staff were very polite and attentive. However, for a hotel of this level, the lack of maintenance and a professional response to a guest’s concern is unacceptable — especially on a special occasion like a birthday.

Beautiful property with a great wine tour. Breakfast was delicious as well and it had a nice bar. There are wild peacocks and pea hens running around and the spa has some unusual treatments. Loved this stay!

I can’t even adequately describe how magical this place is. We stayed in a wine barrel room and we were completely surrounded by the grapes growing on the spectacular vineyard. Absolutely stunning!!
The food at the restaurant was fantastic and we also did a tour and wine tasting.
I can’t wait to go back!!

These guys know how to do hospitality! What a beautiful property! We only stayed one night and we’re so sorry we couldn’t stay longer. Once we checked in I didn’t want to leave, even to visit other wineries. I visited the spa and walked the property, all wonderful. We also had dinner which was excellent. Can’t wait to return.

The winery in gorgeous and the wine tour and tasting was great. We accidentally booked a tour in Portuguese which we do not speak but the guide was kind enough to translate when she could.
We slept in the barrel room which was amazing. Very relaxing we had such a great time we did not want to leave.
Staff very helpful service was impeccable.
We highly recommend staying there.

Its probably one of the most beautiful places to visit. We stayed at a barrel room. It is cozy, but a cool experience for 1 night. It could have been a 10/10 hotel if it didn't feel like you have to extra for EVERYTHING. The barrel was the most expensive room anyway. Property is really spectacular. If you are visiting for the wine tasting, you will have an amazing time.

If you are staying at the hotel and will be eating at the restaurant, please be aware of the following:

- there are 3 sections, newly built, older section and the barrel rooms.

- I and a friend of mine booked a room in the new section and it was such an unpleasant experience. Room comes with 2 twin beds which we separated apart. Beds are really tiny and nothing to compare with American size double or queen beds in hotel rooms.

- Our room had a glass door to the bathroom which provided zero privacy. If you are with a friend or a partner with whom you are uncomfortable hearing or seeing what is going on in the bathroom or the shower it will make your stay extremely unpleasant.

- Restaurant is overpriced for the quality of dishes you get. Not worth the money. If you have a car, drive into town and have a great meal for a fraction of the price.

A winery that doubles as a wonderfully beautiful and peaceful resort with stunning vistas, a friendly staff, and exceptional dining (even in the poolside bar/cafe). The complimentary bottle of port offered in the room was especially thoughtful. The only downsides was for us was in the tasteful, contemporary designed room. It seemed designed more for beauty than for comfort or convenience. The parquet floors are gorgeous, but the wood was popping up throughout, so we kept painfully stubbing our toes and tripping (particularly coming out of the shower). And large room just for the toilet (water closet?) is has a floor-to-cieling, clear glass door -- so there is absolutely no privacy whatsoever for whomever is inside. The glass should be frosted at the very least. It makes no sense and is quite awkward & bizarre.

Location is great, it’s quiet but very close to two towns, the property is stunning and has lots of places to relax and take photos, the pool is beautiful. Breakfast was a great addition for a small fee and includes champagne. We stayed in the classic building, the room was okay, the carpet and shower stall were a bit rough but it was still a nice enough room and comfortable. You receive a small bottle of welcome port and a complimentary wine tasting as a guest.

If you’re looking for a quiet and quaint stay away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place. Situated above a spacious vineyard, this small estate is the perfect combination of exceptional service and the serene escape you’d want in the Portuguese countryside. With only a few rooms it provides the quiet often unavailable at the larger estates (ie: children, large wedding parties, etc). The pool is ideal and overlooks the vineyard and aside from the muted conversations of fellow guests the only noise is the rustle of olive trees and the chirping of birds.

A Perfect Stay in the Douro Valley

Everything about this hotel was top notch! The rooms were luxurious and beautiful. The linens were lovely, the baths were modern and spacious. The dining was delicious in an elegant room with wonderful service. The vineyards are beautiful as was the setting in the rolling hills. The wine tour and tasting was lively and done in a lovely tasting room.
But best of all was the front desk service. We asked a lot of questions of our host Christine and she had a wealth of great information. Her English is lovely and she knew the Douro valley well. This hotel is worth every penny and the staff is outstanding. I can't imagine anyone not having anything but a memorable stay here.

Fun barrel room for 1 night stay

We stayed in the cute barrel rooms. It’s fun but room is very small, hardly any space for luggage. Water faucet quite tricky to operate . Great to have Netflix in the room. Pleasant surprise to receive a complimentary bottle of port from hotel.

Breakfast very good quality.
Had a free wine tour and tried 5 different types of wine and port. Enjoyed it very much.
There was a very adorable dog adopted by the hotel :)

We slept in the barrels and it was amazing up until we found out the shower has very low water pressure and the hot water are just enough for one person. The bed itself wasn’t too comfortable and we didn’t have extra blankets to deal with the cold.

Beautiful hotel and surrounding area. Breakfast was wonderful...the best so far on my travels in Portugal. Check in was not overly friendly ...other Portugal hotels I have experienced were a lot friendlier. Our room did not have a safe and we were told to share with our friends 2 doors down...this is unacceptable in a hotel of this caliber. We had dinner in their restaurant and although the food was delicious the room was so hot (no air) we did not enjoy the experience.

Room was a bit loud due to the location near the restaurant and main hallway. Also, the mattress on the bed needed to be changed as the springs were a bit worn out causing it to be somewhat lopsided. However, the staff was excellent in every respect and overall we had a very nice stay.

Beautiful property, incredible room, food, wine, service. We had trouble with our GPS finding it, but I called and a very patient man talked me through how to get there. We did not have time the next day to do the included winery tour, so plan ahead for that. We were sorry to miss it.

The Wine Hotel and the Douro Valley - PORT

Outstanding resort/winery in the heart of Port wineries. The Rouro Valley is around the corner with many vineyards from tiny to huge. The wine hotel is small but beautiful. Great restaurant and the included breakfast was over the top! Very helpful staff and included a very informative tour along with a great tasting. Stay for several days to enjoy the hotel and the Douro Valley.

Hotel in the beautiful Douro Valley amidst vineyards. Fantastic location. You are able to tour the wine making facilities and have a very pleasant tasting of both wine and port. It was probably our favorite part of the trip to Portugal.

Nice Douro Experience

Quinta da Pacheca is a memorable experience for it's location right within the vineyards. While it doesn't have a view of the Douro River it does have a nice, rustic feel and beautiful grounds. We especially enjoyed the winemaking tour, the breakfast and a walk through the vineyards to the Six Senses for lunch. The Wine House Hotel should consider updating some of its rooms as they seem to be outdated and also adding additional reception staff as we often waited to speak with someone. Otherwise, our stay was comfortable and relaxed.

Beautiful hotel in the Duoro valley, however it is not really a hotel with no bar, no drinks service other than collecting a glass of wine from the wine shop which closes at 7pm. We were also refused lunch on arrival with no food service other than in the Restaurant at set meal times. The Quinta do wine tours for coach trips and so at times the grounds are quite busy. Would be hugely improved with the addition of a pool which I understand they are now building. You can use the hotel bikes but there are no tools to adjust seats or pump tyres.

Beautiful hotel in lovely setting on grounds of winery. The building is beautifully designed and decorated. Our room was very comfortable. Service was extremely accommodating. The restaurant is truly gourmet -- we had an excellent dinner in a beautiful setting and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. We had a fun early morning bike ride through the vineyards on bikes provided by the hotel. And, we had a complimentary wine tour and tasting. All in all, a wonderful stay.

Heaven on earth! The Wine House is beautiful and stately on grounds as far as the eye can see. The room is formal and beautifully decorated, the bed very comfortable. The bathroom is large and off to the side, away from the bedroom. We took the wine tour which was informative and had dinner on the premises which was delicious. The Wine House has a quiet, formal feel, but very comfortable. A fabulous place for a retreat, wish we were the for more than one night. A gem.
