We were well received by the reception. Claudio in particular, was always helpful, always ready to answer our questions. He was well informed about what there was to do in Pelourinho and the surrounding area. And as a guide he took us around to various sights and could tell us a lot about them.

Air conditioning in the room was a joy. Staff were friendly, smiley and helpful. The pool is well maintained and cleaned daily. The gardens are full of wildlife. Claudio especially goes above and beyond his duties to help. Very close to the Pelorinho and a great base for carnival.

Wonderful property, lovely stay.

We had a lovely time at Mangeira. Though the room was not large, it was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The property is gated and feels safe and secure. It was a short walk to the historic Pelhourinho and Mercado, although anyone with limited mobility would have a difficult time navigating the sharp slope down and then up again to get there. The pool was nice to come back to after a day at Carnaval, and the poolside bar featured reasonable drinks and delicious caipirinhas. Friends staying at other pousadas in the neighborhood were jealous of this beautiful property and amazing view of town. Breakfast was varied and tasty. My only hesitation about staying here again during the week of Carnaval is that the convenience of staying so close to the Pelourinho meant that loud music could be heard day and night- a great party atmosphere for Carnaval, but not good for sleeping. Note: I have been here in January also, when the town is quieter, and there is a much more serene atmosphere at that time. Just know what you are getting into during Carnaval! There was even a fun Carnaval party here for guests featuring a pool party and live music. I would definitely come back to stay at this wonderful pousada.

The perfect pousada

The best pousada in Salvador! The owner (not completely sure about this) and receptionist Claudio was the sweetest, most helpful man— he booked tours for me, made sure I was satisfied, he is the epitome of Brazilian hospitality. There was a nice social vibe at this pousada and it was extremely safe! Located in the heart of pelhourino— perfect for tourism. The rooms were clean and very beautiful. I would highly recommend this place!

Well run pousada close to sights

Great little spot overlooking a stunning view of Pelourinho / Centro Historico. Pool area, breakfast, bar service all up to standard. Rooms a bit on the small side, but newly renovated and modern. Front desk service regarding directions, planning trips, safety tips and onward travel was nothing short of incredibly comprehensive and helpful. We appreciated that part especially. Would return if I'm ever in Salvador again!

Good, reasonable option For visiting the old town

Salvador is not the best place we have visited in Brazil. Very run down in many places and the traffic is a nightmare. The old town has some interesting bits and this pousada is a short walk away, a jewel in a poor area. But it was not easy to find.
The manager could not have been more helpful; he even showed us the way to the ferry, driving in front not letting other traffic push in between.
A great hotel if you want to visit the old town.

Daytime staff speaks English and is very eager to help you find things to do, give you directions, tell you about special events, and advice on where to go and where to avoid, etc. Night staff doesn't speak English, so be aware. Breakfast was lovely, room was clean (but small). Biggest pet peeve is that shower is not very hot. Best thing is the really short walk to Pelourinho and the lovely view, plus the pool is nice!

Very good place to stay for visiting Pelourinho

We booked this for its location to visit Pelouinho area, Afterwards I read reviews about the area & was little bit worried, but I needn't have been worried. Yes the area looks a little run down but that gives it the traditional Salvador feel. Just a short walk to the centre ( down & up a hill) there is large police presence at the top of the hill & they watch you walk back to hotel so felt very safe, but use common sense in not being too flashy with your belongings. Hotel breakfast was very good with plenty of choice & the room was nice. We used the pool area which again is set in nice settings. We also used their airport transfer service which is good value...all in all very satisfied with our stay & we are hoteliers in the Uk so know the trade well.

A good base to explore Salvador from

Stayed in this Pousada for 4 days. They arranged a driver to transfer from the hotel at a competitive price. Staff are friendly and even though my Portuguese is non-existent they strove to satisfy my requests. The managers speak good english too which helps a mono lingual person like me! The room are clean and well attended to. Its obvious they take pride in this pousada. Shower was fine/clean and functional. Breakfast is good for the price with a selection of fruits/ juices, bread, cheese and ham. All in all was very satisfied with my stay. If you are interested in the culture of Salvador I would also recommend Marcus ( who works freelance for the hotel) to show you around as the man is a wealth of knowledge and a really humble and genuine guy too. I went away to another part of Brazil and came back to the Pousada to leave my suitcase and kill some time in Salvador before my midnight flight back to London. The manager treated me like a long lost friend and invited me to share the barbeque they were having. So thanks Claudio and the rest of the guys and ladies for feeding and watering and making my last day in Brazil a wonderful experience. I really could not of chosen a better place to explore Pelourinho from. The surrounding area may be a bit depressed but that is the nature of the old part of Salvador. Don't expect to be surrounded by condominiums! As a single guy security was never an issue coming back from a late night out.

Overall, this is a pleasant, well-run, reasonably priced pousada within two blocks of the historic district, but on our first excursion to nearby Pelourinho Square, we'd walked only 1/2 block when a street thief appeared out of a nowhere and ripped a gold chain off my wife's neck. The hotel provided a escort on our subsequent walks up the narrow street to the historic district, which is heavily policed, but all guests should be advised not to wear jewelry on the streets and to guard valuables against pickpockets.

Awesome Experience

Everything about this Pousada was great! I have to admit, perhaps my positive experience was amplified by the fact that I had just spent 7 horrible days at a gross hostel (yes, hostel, not hotel). But, Pousada da Mangueira definitely delivered! The manager, Claudio, was awesome. He had a car waiting for me at the airport. When I arrived, he was incredibly service oriented. Sylvia, the head housekeeper / cook / etc, was awesome. She was always around to help with anything I needed (a glass of tea, a drink at night by the pool, etc). The rooms were INCREDIBLY clean - If you are visiting from the USA, you may have a different level of what you consider clean, but let me tell you ... after traveling around Brazil on a major low-level budget, this place was relatively impeccable. This is not the Hilton, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. The small, family-like feel actually made it much more relaxing. Sylvia always hand-cooked something to add to the breakfast the evening beforehand, like fresh coffee cake, muffins, etc. They had fresh fruit, eggs, coffee, juice, yum! They are located right next to the Pelourinho district. I felt fairly safe. The neighborhood is not swanky or "cleaned up for tourist-eyes-only" ... it's a real Brazilian street, but ... there were tons of Tourist Police (weird, right?) and that definitely made me feel safe, traveling as a (clearly not Brazilian) female, alone. Great place! Great Staff! Clean. Nice. Quaint. Thanks!

Esta ubicado a una calle del centro histórico de pelourinho, la calle del hotel es insegura para caminar porque hay mucha pobreza alrededor, el hotel tienen todo lo necesario dentro de sus instalaciones, el desayuno tiene huevo, queso, salchichas y jugos frescos, El personal es amable y servicial, los cuartos están limpios aunque pequeños. Si te toca estar en fin de semana o temporada de carnaval no dormirás porque se escucha la fiesta y música de las plazas del centro histórico.Los cuadros no son insonorizados y escuchas todo el ruido de la calle y de los vecinos.

Fomos muito bem recebidos pelo gerente Gabriel, que nos deu muitas dicas de passeios e segurança em Salvador. A pousada é muito bem administrada, quartos limpos e confortáveis, com mimos para os hóspedes. A localização é muito boa, pode-se conhecer as atrações do Pelourinho a pé, apenas a noite recomenda-se sair e voltar de carro. Possui estacionamento, o que é um diferencial para a região. A estadia foi ótima! Atendimento maravilhoso, toda equipe muito prestativa e educada. Jorge nos mostrou várias opções de passeios. Café da manhã ok. Pelo custo benefício achei justo.
Única coisa que sugiro que tenha mais opções de entretenimento. Como cartas, mesa de bilhar ou pebolim. A noite parece perigoso sair, mas ao chegar no Pelourinho há bastante movimentação e policiamento. São apenas 5 minutos de caminhada, nem isso.

Atendimento de toda equipe foi impecável! Tive um contratempo, e consegui alterar a reserva quando liguei antes, foram muito solicitos!
A localização no Pelourinho não é muito segura num geral.
Ponto a melhorar é a variedade do café e disponibilidade de mantas ou edredons, chegamos num dia frio, e não tinham duas mantas quando pedimos, nos deram lençóis.
Todo hotel tem escada, tanto da rua quanto para alguns quartos, e somente um atendente nos ajudou uma das vezes com as malas, isso também foi bastante complicado.
Acústica dos quartos também não é muito boa, dá pra ouvir tudo dos outros quartos e banheiros.

Hotel atende bem para um pernoite. Próximo ao Pelourinho. Redondezas do hotel não é aconselhável andar a pé.

Pousada muito bem localizada.
Você faz tudo a pé.
Em 5min você está no Largo do Pelourinho, coladinho a Casa de Jorge Amado. Programe-se e faça todo o passei o centro histórico.
Fale com o Jorge ou Gabriel da recepção da pousada, eles te dão todas as dicas de onde ir e como aproveitar bem o passeio pela região, inclusive onde almoçar muito bem a preços justo.
Sobre a pousada ela é exatamente como apresentado nas fotos. Não tem luxo mas é um lugar tranquilo, bem limpo e confortável.

A pousada é uma graça, bem limpa, organizada, na recepção além de me darem dicas de passeios me deram uma aula de história. As instalações são ótimas, a única coisa que precisa de um pouco mais de atenção é o café para quem acorda após as 9:00 tem pouca coisa disponível.
