I had a great stay at Bahia Cafe. The location is prime and very close to all the tourist attractions. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was cozy and clean. Bed and pillows were comfortable. The breakfast was tasty as well. I'd highly recommend staying at this hotel.

Excelente ubicación caminando a principales atractivos de Pelourinho, cuarto pequeño pero confortable para un par de noches, desayuno artesanal destacable muy rico, y personal de recepción muy amable. Nos sentimos muy seguros allí, y también caminando por los alrededores. Recomendamos quedarse aquí al menos un par de noches para recorrer y vivir el centro de Salvador en toda su expresión, con su enorme encanto y la amabilidad y alegría de su gente!!!

It is a perfect place to enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage Pelourinho neighborhood. It is a historical house nicely converted to hotel. The room was small but adequate for two persons. There was always hot water and good pressure. Everything worked fairly well considering it is an old building. There is a loud nightclub on one side but it didn’t stay open very late. It seemed like the whole area pretty much shuts down completely by about 11 pm even on weekends. I would stay there again if I ever return to Salvador da Bahia. Breakfast was adequate. People working there were particularly pleasant. There is a lot of police presence in the area so you feel pretty secure outside at least until about 11 pm.

The Bahiacafe is a top hotel in Salvador, ideally located in the historic center, with local flavor to its design, an attentive, caring staff and terrific breakfast. Take care, however, to stay elsewhere during big music festivals, such as Sao Joao, in late June, as the hotel faces directly onto the Praca Da Se, where extremely loud music is played until 1 or 2 in the morning.

It’s a perfect boutique hotel at the edge of Peroulinho. The staff was very friendly and ready to help. A nice breakfast with lots of choices in the morning and a cute bar in the lobby. It’s a bit uncomfortable walking late at night but totally walkable throughout the day. There is a noise from bars and other businesses around. Close to restaurants, museums, and attractions and easy to get around in Uber.

The hotel was really nice and is central to the location. During the day it’s ok to walk around but one needs to be careful of the surroundings but the old town is a fun place to go around. Bahiacafe is ideally located at the entrance to the historic sector of Salvador, and at affordable taxi rides from beaches etc. Warm and friendly staff assist with organising excursions. Interesting breakfast buffet but no other in house dining, ( but why bother with so
many alternatives within walking distance?). The Caipirinha cocktails in the evening were great. Overall, a nice alternative-but-modern vibe at reasonable prices.

This was the smallest room I've ever stayed in and also the most expensive, during my visits to Brazil. There were ants in the room and walking into the room it smelled like piss. Not sure if the smell was coming from the alley or if it was actually the room. No closet space or iron. They had one tea cup with a few packs of tea, but no machine to make the tea. Not a bad location. I stayed for 2 nights and it cost me $221. I have stated beachfront hotels with a saview for less than $70 a night. The only view I saw out of my window is a rooftop. Wouldn't stay at this hotel again nor would I recommend to anyone to stay here.

The staff were very attentative to our needs at all times. Joao, the front desk manager, was outstanding. The room was a good size, but lacks drawers or closets. The location is great, but to get to the beaches it takes at least 15min drive. You can't walk there from the hotel. The nearby neighboorhood is danger after dawn, so it is not recommended to walk alone in certain areas near to the hotel.

A well restored and maintained 300 year old building that was converted to a hotel. We enjoyed our stay. Centrally located in Pelourinho Bahiacafe was a great base to tour the city from. The room was perfect for 3 people, it was clean, and the breakfast was wonderful. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone that is adventurous and likes quant hotels. We felt safe day and night but never let our guard down.

Great stay in Salvador. This hotel was clean, had excellent wifi and breakfast and very nice reception. Just make sure to not bring a rental car, it's a nightmare to drive in Salvador and in the Colonia city. It cost 100000 R for 2 nights, and a migraine.

The hotel is perfect for a trip in Salvador de Bahia. The owner and the staff (from the front desk to the kitchen) are lovely and so helpful. The room are beautiful, big and very quiet even if we are directly located on the Praça de Se. Walking distance from everything you want to visit in Salvador de Bahia. I highly recommend this place.

I was a little nervous when I got dropped off at the hotel. The surrounding area is kind of rough, and the outside of the hotel didn't look like much. I was very happy to see how nice the inside was. It is extremely charming. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The bed was good, but a little firm for my liking. The staff were amazing. They spoke English and were able to help me purchase my boat ticket to Morro de Sao Paulo. I would not recommend going out after dark. There was a lot of screaming and yelling on the streets, and sounded like a pack of wild dogs were running around. Would highly recommend this hotel!

We received a really friendly welcome and help with our heavy cases up to our second floor room which was spacious, clean, quiet, with tea/coffee, tv, fridge, shower, hairdryer, toiletries and air conditioning (although not particularly powerful). An added bonus is the hotel is full of character.

Strange overnight guest policy

The facility itself and the staff are great. But the hotel has an absurd policy for no overnight guest.
I checked in in the afternoon and went to meet a friend for drinks, one thing led to another we decided to go back to the hotel. Upon entry the night manger became quite suspicious of us, and we got the impression my friend was suspected to be a working girl (she is not, she is a long time friend of mine). Then at midnight we were waken up by a call telling us that she could not stay for the night because I had not registered her when checking-in. As a hotel this is an absurd policy.
I do want to point out that the night manager has been professional and courteous, and was trying his best to balance between carrying out his duty and resolving the situation. What put us all in this awkward circumstance was this overly zealous security procedure. Would not stay here again solely because of this policy.
Also hot water takes a long time to come out from the shower.

We had a great time at this hotel, from the friendly check-in to the amazing breakfast with a great view over the square. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable and hippy decor. Very good location in the old town. Can get to most of the places easily on foot or by Uber if going further out. The only thing that needs improvement is breakfast presentation especially for the cut fruits with no cover and flies hovering over them which was quite disgusting.
The tours provided by the hotel is just ok. The guide we had didn’t speak good English so we struggled a bit.

Good breakfast. Close to the main plaza just around the block. The queen / king bed is just two beds pushed together which for a couple in difficult as you need to roll over a small hill they put in between the two beds to join them. So not that comfy if you want to be together. On the other hand quality of the linon etc was very nice and something noticed.

Perfect place to stay in Pelo!!!!

We loved our stay at the Bahia Cafe Hotel!!! They took care of us from start to finish. All staff spoke English so we were able to get ideas for places to visit and eat. The detail put into the design to the inside of the building is amazing!!! They decorated with such a special and historical mind frame. The breakfast was delicious with lots of options and the view of the square from the breakfast area was a wonderful way to wake up each day. Jorge's Mango Caipirinhas and conversations at the small bar were wonderful. It was easy to take Uber's anywhere outside the Pelo: beaches, other neighborhoods, even Praia de Forte from this hotel location. As soon as you walk out the door you are near the Elevator to the Mercado and near all the busy squares. I will recommend this place to everyone when they visit Salvador. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Lots of memories were made here.

Nice hotel in the Pelaurinho.

The location of the hotel is excellent for exploring the Pelaurinho. The staff was very helpful and nice, and spoke english very well. The rooms were clean and cute. There is also a little bar and a cafe, and the breakfast room overlooking the square. Can fully recommend it.

Our room and the entire first floor where we stayed smelled like pee. There was no air conditioning in common areas and therefore was extremely hot. The bed mattresses were hard and very uncomfortable. The staircase to rooms was steep and unsafe. Internet was also slow.
The ONLY good thing about this hotel was location and breakfast.

This place was really in a perfect location in the Pelorihno. All sites were within walking distance. The rooms were updated and in very good condition. There is a nice small bar downstairs that makes nice Caiprihnas. The even better aspects of this hotel were the staff and how helpful/friendly they were and the outstanding breakfasts. All around this hotel exceeded all possible expectations! Highly recommended.

We came just to stay fot a night or two but we got sick and had to stay another two days. the hotel staff are amazingly nice and have very good english, they were very helpfull and very polite.
A good example for that was when we were sick and could not find any simple food (e.g. bread). The hotel stuff gave us bread and suggested to help us with any medical needs we have.
The hotel itself is very pretty. The breakfest is nice (the have juices, jams, eggs, fruits and more). The wifi works great most of the time and the shower is a bit hard to handle but once you understand how to use it, it's fine. They also have a pool table and a nice room for reading and hanging with friends.

I stayed at the Bahiacafe while travelling in Brazil with a friend. We booked a room with two single beds and ended up with a spacious room on the third floor with a beautiful view of the Praça de Sè. The beds were comfortable enough and the shower/bath room was nice and clean. Throughout the hotel, the decor is very charming. The location is also convenient to the tourist attractions but it is worth pointing out that the neighbourhood is a bit dodgy (not the fault of the hotel, this is just the nature of the old part of Salvador). That said, the hotel is very secure, with a gated front door that is always locked and secure locks on the room doors.

The staff all spoke English (which in our experience is not a given in Brazil) and were informative and friendly. They helped us book excursions and airport transport.

We loved the breakfast--juice made from exotic (to us) fruits, bread, cheese and ham, yogurt,cereal and fresh fruit as well as hot breakfast items and several cakes.

On the whole, the hotel was a high point in our stay in Salvador

The hotel is indeed as cute inside and out as most reviews suggest.

But at least in my case the room was quite noisy. Not due to the central location (in fact quite deserted at night) but due to some exhaust fan running nearly the whole night in the small courtyard/vent where the room "window" was leading. So your experience might vary depending on the room you get.

On the plus side the breakfast was excellent and the staff was very friendly and extremely helpful.

Abayomi (Yomi)

A Very Good Choice

Bahiacafe Hotel strikes a good balance between comfort, location, service and value.
It is conveniently located in the heart of Pelourinho, just off Terreirio de Jesus, which means you're only moments from some of the most important sites in the city. Terreiro de Jesus captures the pulse of the area and thus is never short of all manner of activity. Several notable restaurants and bars also rim the square or are just within close proximity on the side streets that branch off it.
The service is quite good. I found the folks at the front desk to be very helpful and attentive.
Breakfast universally seems to get high marks and I would concur that it is a nice spread offering a fair amount of variety.

Comfortable and cozy in the Historical Center.

Stayed only one night and it was comfortable. Decor of interiors are very nice. The only problem is there is no elevator. It can be a problem if your room is on the third floor which in this case my was on the third floor. Receptionist very helpful giving me tips about the neighborhood.

A charming hotel in the heart of old Salvador

The highlight of our stay was the service we got. The staff were very nice, exceedingly helpful and spoke good English (which isn't really that frequent in Brazil).
The hotel itself is fabulous. A heritage building with a very authentic feel to everything - yet rooms are decently appointed and up-to-date. Keep in mind that rooms are indeed smallish - I suppose this is how they built things few hundred years ago... Still, overall experience was great.

Centre Salvador Hotel

A very pleasant surprise on entering the hotel with very cheerful staff. The building was deceptive in appearances, looked small but in fact was large with little corridors and staircases, offers a sauna, hot tub, and massages, I had a very good relaxing massage,
I would recommend this hotel for its location, friendly staff and the "quirkiness" of the place.

Great potential, but needs work.

Pros: Very friendly and accommodating staff, including a very nice Belgian fellow who went out of his way to procure some choice Belgian beers for us. Excellent location in the Cidade Historico, and lovely interior design.

Cons: No Air Conditioning in the lobby/bar area (in fact, the ceiling fan wasn't even working), so it is wretchedly hot and humid inside. Prepare to sweat like a pig if you wish to have a drink at the bar. If you wish to have two, better ask for a towel.

As lovely as the rooms are, the bathrooms do not offer any places on which to place toiletries, clothes, or other items (aside from the tiny sink). This can easily be fixed by adding shelves.

Lastly, the wifi connection was unreliable. I had a web conference call during my stay which was cut short by the weak signal. My boss was not pleased.

Conclusion: This is a lovely hotel that has the potential to be really great, but it needs to make significant improvements before it gets there.

Overall great stay, only minor logistical issues

My wife, daughter, and I went to Salvador, Bahia state in order to hang out for 2 days in the city's historic colonial center. In terms of customer service, BahiaCafe gets high ratings from us. Knowledgeable, friendly staff and very helpful with anything we needed. Also very clean and tidy, and the price was right (70 bucks/night is hard to beat for a hotel anywhere in a touristy area of Brazil). The Wifi worked perfectly and signal was strong the whole time. TV was cable - which I don't have at home since I don't usually like the channel selection - but it was cool being able to actually channel surf for the first time in awhile. The breakfast was great - and they had some of the best machine drip coffee I've had in Brazil, which is really saying something. No issues on any of those fronts.

The downside is the building structure itself. Built into a colonial-era building, spaces are small, which can be mildly frustrating since space is already tight in the city once you get out the door. And there's no elevator. So if you have a 9-month old kid and are staying on the very top floor... It's hard getting stuff up/down. Happens to lots of people so just something to consider logistically if you don't like walking up lots of stairs to get to/from everything from breakfast to your actual tourism experience.
