My friend and I had such a relaxing time at Relais!! We both got amazing massages from Natalie, the staff helped me figure out how to get to Rome after, the rooms were GORGEOUS, the pool was spectacular and got great poolside drinks, and the food/wine was the best!!! Stay here for a romantic and relaxing getaway surrounded by Tuscany’s beautiful rolling hills and vineyards. Would definitely come back!

This is a classic Tuscan property, built centuries ago, but equipped with all modern updates. The staff is friendly and extremely willing to go out of their way to help. The dining area for breakfast features breathtaking views of the hills and vineyards of Tuscany. The location in the ancient city of Radda is another plus as there are countless dining options nearby, and some of the finest wineries of Tuscany are within a 10-20 minute drive. They are rebuilding their pool so swimming is not possible, but that is a nit given what else the area has to offer. Basically, if you are in this area of Tuscany, this hotel is well worth using as your base from which to visit nearby sites.

This was a nice unique hotel in located in the Heart of Chianti Region in Tuscany. The property itself is very nice, almost as if you are staying in the Estate of the Winery fields that fall away behind the villa.

Breakfasts were very good. The Bed was comfortable and the shower very nice.

The biggest downside was the brochure showed the pool and when we got there it was under reconstruction. Given how nice and warm it was when we were there that was a big dissappointment.

The little village in Rada where the hotel is located is very walkable with fantastic views and some excellent restaurants.

Parking, always a challenge in Italy was private and easy and very much appreciated!

To stay at this location you really need a car. It is in the middle of Tuscany and touring anywhere requires a car, or a lot of arranged drivers.

So much untapped potential

Love the area this hotel is located in. Pool is beautiful. Rooms are very spacious and shower is good. Views from hotel are beautiful. This hotel has a lot of potential, but I can see why it's not perfectly rated.

Service is mediocre at best. When we checked in we got almost no information (about the area, wifi, location or time of restaurant, location or time or pool, spa, etc). I felt like I was dragging out answers from the person who helped me. They also ONLY recommend their restaurant when there is a Michelin starred restaurant in town and several lovely options steps away from their hotel. Even when I wanted to buy a large water they said I should go to their bar instead of going to the mart down the street. There are no fridges as food offsite is not permitted.

I also found several ants in my bedroom although this is likely just Tuscany not to do with the hotel. There are small things this hotel could do to make it 10/10 and more luxurious for guests. Include more information for guests who speak all languages in the information. Improve customer service. Add robes or slippers for guests (you do have a spa anyways). Consider small gifts or small things that can make your guests feel special and that your hotel and spa are worth coming back to. You've got all the right big pieces to make this a perfect stay for anyone.

This hotel looked great in the pictures, and was better in person. Spacious and clean room and hotel. Pretty much felt like we had the place to ourselves, which we didn’t. We stayed 5 nights...Food was amazing ( we only had the breakfast). The staff was outstanding . Kind, courteous... so helpful , placing many calls for us for dinner reservations, rental bike arrangements, post office etc... . They were prompt, and happy to do whatever they could. We highly recommend.

i was happy to stay in a very calm village with a high standard hotel as they told us. Room is huge with a magnificent view and the old furniture they used is a great combination with the view. we had insects everywhere which i thought is normal until i got an insect bite with infection. They did not mention room was paid with no breakfast and shocked us with big amount we have to pay on the check out. Pool was so dirty and we had to get some stuff for breakfast after we found nothing on table!! stuff is limited and hiring one to do different kinds of jobs. That was the worst experience throughout my whole visit..

This is a charming hotel in an absolutely beautiful hill town. I've been here many times but first time in this hotel. Among the many many hill towns of Tuscany this rates at the top. We stayed in an annex across from the main building. I would have much preferred to have stayed in the main buildings. That would have improved the experience.

Nice hotel but service issues

The hotel is very nice with great views and common areas. I was disappointed in a few things and for the amount we paid I expected better service. Breakfast was not up to par. The selections were poor, coffee was difficult to get and it seemed there are some issues with the servers and attitude. On one of the mornings it seemed if there was a dispute of some kind. Just poorly organized and again for the price paid not acceptable. I was well taken care of by the bartender in the evenings and he was very attentive so compliments to him - forgot his name. Our room was small and did not even have a desk to do some computer work - I guess I shouldn't be doing this in the hear too Chianti but I do need to check mails. The water pressure for the shower was almost non-existent - it took a long time to shower as there was so little water!

Good location but overpriced

First the pros. This hotel is perfectly located just outside of Radda in the Chianti region. The town of Radda has many restaurants, gelato shops and a grocery store. The room rate includes free breakfast (it's good, but not great), and free parking. There are terrific views from the rooms if you are lucky enough to get a room facing either side of the valley. The restaurant is very good and has great views.

Now the cons. For our stay, the euro 300+ per night room rate was simply overpriced. All the other hotels in the area were half to one-third the rate. For that kind of rate, our expectations were much, much higher. We tried to negotiate our rate and even tried to check out early, but the hotel was not flexible and said we would still have to pay in full if we left. The rooms were small and modest at best. I would rate the rooms themselves as 2-star. Certainly nothing to boast about. Our room experienced lots of road noise (the hotel is split in the middle by the main road in to town). The free wifi kept cutting in and out during our entire stay.

Value simply not worth the price. In our opinion, only pay 100-150 euros maximum for this hotel.

Beautiful property

Relais Vignale is a beautiful property set in Radda in Chianti. The grounds are charming and there is a beautiful view of vineyards from the on-site restaurant. Our room also had a wonderful Tuscan feel. The one odd thing about it is that we had to walk down several steps to get to the bathroom.
We were grateful that the staff carried our luggage to our room from the parking lot as there is no lift. Also loved the fact that there is a parking lot and that parking is included in the price.

We like this hotel mainly for its warm, homey atmosphere and good central location in Tuscany. The breakfasts are great, the staff is helpful and the rooms are very comfortable, but not luxurious. It feels like staying in someone's large home. Radda is a lovely town and not too crowded.

Outstanding hotel! You cannot beat the location, views, services and staff friendliness. The room we stayed in was a bit on the rustic side, which is perfect for Tuscany. It makes the whole experience more appealing. We were in the annex on the other side of the street of the hotel, and no complaints there; it is a very short walk to the hotel (you simply cross the street). The room was large, we had a small sitting room, then the bathroom and then the bedroom. The bathroom is of good size. The beds are OK, not the most comfortable, but the room was quiet and we slept just fine. The air conditioning works well. Radda in Chianti is a charming medieval village. We stayed here 3 nights. The hotel's breakfast is wonderful, and you sit outside under their large patio with views over the vineyards. The pool is great! And if they are many guests, they will send out someone to take a drink order. The hotel decor reminds you of a well appointed country home and it is super cozy. We enjoyed our stay and have no complaints. The hotel is a close drive to Castelvecchi, which I say is a must to visit! Just a 10 minute drive; the cellars at Castelvecchi are beautiful! There is also another very charming town called Volpaia (restaurant La Bottega) where we had the best raviolis of our lives. You can do both towns as they are quite close. While in Radda visit the La Botte di Bacco restaurant, the food is gourmet style and the owners do a great job.

A wonderful hotel

My wife and I have always loved this hotel and have stayed there many times. The hotel staff are wonderful and seem positively proud to work in such a beautiful hotel. They create an exceptionally friendly atmosphere and it is interesting how often one finds oneself in pleasant conversation in one of the lovely public areas of the hotel with someone one has never met before. And I can think of few greater pleasures than sitting out in the sun on the hotel balcony in the spring when the wisteria is out looking out over the Tuscan hills. Even better with a glass of wine.

Beyond Disappointed!

We were beyond disappointed with our stay. We had a very unclean, small room...it looked NOTHING like the pictures that were provided on the website for the classic double room that we selected. The room was dark, carpets had stains so bad that my husband and I wore our shoes in our room. We had asked if there was a different room and the hotel staff was not very nice or accommodating.They only had one room available which was a suite, that had the same disgusting carpet in it! This hotel has beautiful scenery and an amazing view from the pool...but everything else gets 1-2 stars. There were so many bees at the breakfast area, it was hard to enjoy the average meal and the below average coffee. If you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful trip in the Tuscan countryside...I would not stay here!

Gem in Chianti!

This hotel and town was recommended by my mother who had stayed there 4 years earlier.
Radda is a beautiful and quiet little town in the hills of Chianti. If you're looking for nightlife and tons of shopping this is not your place. If you're looking for a relaxing stay with amazing local restaurants and a swimming pool at your disposal then this is the place for you. We were able to take day trips by car to Florence, Sienna, Pisa and a number of other beautiful towns. There are countless wineries in the area you can visit. I want to say hi and thank you to Patrizio at the front desk..CIAO! Patrizio! This gentleman speaks 5 languages and knows the entire area like the back of his hand. He has a sincere desire to help the guests enjoy their stay and went well above and beyond his normal duties to see that my wife and I were completely happy with our stay and our daily trips.

Radda charm

A fabulous 6 days!! Radda is beautiful and perfectly located for exploring the countryside. We had booked a superior room, but after seeing that it was in the annex across the street from the hotel we switched to a junior suite. What a great room; a lovely view plus a private garden patio with a table and 4 chairs for sharing the local wine and cheese with friends. Close to the restaurant, pool and parking. Everyone at the hotel was friendly and super helpful. Fun to be right in town for shopping and one night of take out pizza from right across the street. A thoroughly charming hotel.

The best possible location for a trip to Chianti

Radda is wonderful, just the right size for a quiet stay but with all the neccessary restaurants and facilities you could want.. Relais Vignale is right in the heart of Radda on the main winding road, but once you enter and look out from the patios on the back, you see miles of beautiful vineyards, farms and hillsides with the feel of being in the middle of the countryside. The staff are super helpful, the breakfast buffet was delicious with very many choices. The breakfast area is on a patio overlooking Radda as is the pool area There is a large room with a big screen TV and many other beautifully decorated lounges to sit in if you bored (which is unlikely). The bedroom we had was tiny but comfortable, clean and modernised. A perfect location to visit some nearby wineries reccomended by the staff.

Beautiful, charming hotel in a quaint Tuscan town

We had a wonderful stay at the Relais Vignale! The setting was a perfect picturesque Tuscan villa, everything we could have imagined and then some for our stay. The staff was courteous, friendly and always willing to answer questions. We had lunches and dinners in the restaurant and they were all very good! The small, quaint town of Radda was just a few steps from the hotel with quite a few shops and restaurants. My only complaints would be the breakfasts were not great and the beds were stiff and uncomfortable. While they had American style with quite a few options, the eggs and bacon were usually undercooked, the coffee was ok and the milk tasted like it was from powder. Our bed was a thin hard mattress that felt like we were sleeping on straw and the pillows were flat and stiff. That being said, I would come back again and would highly recommend it to others (but bring a comfy pillow).

Relais Vignale has an enviable, hilltop position with views across the Chianti countryside from both the pool and restaurant area along with from some rooms. The lounge areas are sumptuously furnished and there is a real air of luxury about the hotel. One downside was that the bed was very hard as were the pillows.

Radda in Chianti was excellent, but I recommend looking for a different hotel. Positive characteristics include great location (being just on the edge of town, it has views overlooking both \"sides\" of the hill) and pretty grounds (the outside seating area for breakfast was especially pleasant). However, I was particularly disappointed by most of the staff.
I give the staff credit for their excellent ability and willingness to speak English. I was also surprised by how well-staffed (i.e., number of personnel) the hotel was. However, the front desk staff were at best cold, somewhat unhelpful and seemingly eager to pick a fight. About halfway through the stay I had a dispute with the barman that soured the rest of the trip. He set some hor d'oeuvres in the lobby that seemed to be available to guests. However, when my wife ate one, he scolded her for eating without ordering drinks from the bar (despite our spending over 50 Euro at the bar the previous night). The next day he refused to provide me 2 wine glasses because the wine I wanted to consume out on the patio by the pool was not from the approved winery. He told me I would have to leave the premises or remain in my room (even though I'd still need the glasses to have a drink in the room). I must say the other barman who only works Sundays was wonderfully helpful and kind.
Finally, the room was advertised as having free Wi-Fi but had none. To use Wi-Fi you must go to a specific room in a separate building.

Charming inn in the middle of Chianti

We loved the old world charm of this hotel. The main floor consists of several cozy rooms instead of a large impersonal lobby - bar/lounge, tv, fireplace living room, library, etc. the included breakfast was superior to most that you find in Europe The rooms are nicely appointed and on various levels. There is an elevator that goes one floor, but you will probably have some steps from there. The dining room, which is also old world, is down a flight of stairs. There are decks, terraces, a swimming pool and free parking. We visited other Chianti towns, Cortona and San Gimignano with Radda as a base.

relaxing hotel in Tuscany

We stayed here for 3 nights in September during our honeymoon. We had beautiful weather so we spent a lot of time outside at the pool enjoying the view. We also really liked the charming small town of Radda which is right across the street from the hotel. The hotel restaurant was fantastic, probably our favorite of our entire trip. We had 2 great dinners there (I am still dreaming of their truffle ravioli) as well as the very substantial and enjoyable breakfast they provided each morning. The perfect weather we had definitely added to our experience because much of the charm of this hotel is the beautiful views from the restaurant and pool area. Our room was on the first floor facing the garden and was fairly small but comfortable enough. The bathroom was one of the larger ones we had during our trip. The shower had great water pressure and plenty of hot water. All of the staff we encountered were very helpful and eager to please. We would love to return one day and would certainly recommend it to others.

As I said for a review on trip advisor... We stayed here for 6 nights and could not have been happier with our choice! Our room was spacious, clean and cool with good air con. The hotel is a nice size with plenty of different terraces and indoor seating areas. We had breakfast daily looking over Tuscan hills with plenty of food options to suit all tastes. We also had a good dinner in the restaurant. The hotel bar was well stocked and reasonably priced. The staff are very friendly and only too happy to help. Leaving a recipe card and wine information sheet in the rooms is a nice touch.

Amazing Views! Very spacious accommodations.

This is the perfect getaway location in southern Tuscany. It is very romantic! The views are awesome and the rooms spacious. A bit more room in the shower would be nice but by European standards the overall bathroom was very large. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the food in the restaurant is excellent. This a great place to stay if you have a car and want to tour the hilltowns in Tuscany.

Nice hotel in small Tuscany town

Stayed 2 weekend nights in mid-May. Nice hotel, but I prefer more luxurious accommodations. Pretty grounds (not pool weather!) and a good location to walk to restaurants and a few shops (I prefer that to some of the isolated hotels seen while driving around). Breakfast was good, despite the odd maitre d' and the silent staff. Too bad it was too rainy and cold to sit outside--it's a pretty setting.

Great couple's retreat

We had a fabulous time at Relais Vignale and loved the town of Radda. We were visiting in January, so Chianti was fairly slow and quiet. The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Our room was great, with a view out to the vineyards and neighboring farms and a large bath. The fireplace room was great, as is the sommelier. Great, quiet location for couples to take in the area.

Perfectly situated for Radda in Chianti

First off, it was easy to find which is always a relief at the end of a busy day of driving around Tuscany! The staff were professional and helpful with good English. There was a communal balcony overlooking the Tuscan hillsides, an enclosed courtyard, a couple of comfortable rooms inside for hanging out in (and drinking local wine if that took your fancy) so didn't feel confined to just staying in the room. If the weather had been just a little warmer I'm sure I would have liked to try out the pool.

The room was a good size, and despite our room facing the road was very quiet (not too much traffic goes through this town at night thankfully). It was also extremely dark which meant we slept in the next day and missed breakfast (oops!). Actually it was fine as we'd been to the fabulous La Botte di Bocca the night before for dinner and had enough reserves built up from numerous days of Italian eating to see us through.

The hotel is only a minute or so from centre of Radda in Chianti so it's very convenient. This is a really nice spot to stop on the drive around Tuscany, or use as a base for getting to places like Siena and San Gimignano or visiting the local wineries. It's a lot less touristy than many other towns and therefore much more relaxing. The town itself is quite small and doesn't take long to look around. I highly recommend staying here for a night or two to chill out.

Comfortable, well run hotel with great views over the valley and a lovely pool. Breakfast was fine for our tastes but if you're looking for a full English it's not for you. Lunch in restaurant was reasonable value but the evening menu was a bit limited. Plenty of restaurants in the village to visit. Our room overlooked the courtyard which was pleasant until a noisy group arrived but it wasn't a huge problem as they were quiet by about 11pm. Drinks from the bar were quite pricey but that's par for the course in a 4* hotel. We enjoyed our week visiting Sienna and Florence as well as a few vineyards for tours and tastings. Good location and lovely scenery. Suitable for couples and able bodied as there are different levels and apart from the pool not much for kids.

Great views and quirky sun loungers !

The views were great by the pool and from the terrace where you have breakfast and dinner. The staff were great...brilliant customer service.
The room was a good size however there were a few issues where I had to call down to reception for them to fix (the toilet didn't flush initially and the shower didn't drain). All issues were quickly resolved though.
Radda is also a very village.

Beautiful hotel in the Chianti countryside

Fantastic location, great views over the Tuscan countryside. Pool, gardens and terrace were superb. Staff very helpful and friendly, we were entertained by the restaurant waiters, even though there were some fawlty towers moments. Room very clean and spacious.

Charming Hotel

This was a very charming hotel. It had the feel of a villa in Italy. The hotel staff was extremely helpful. Any issues that was reported to the front desk was addressed quickly. The only thing i found odd was the hair dryer. It was like a mini vaccum cleaner on the wall.

Great view of rolling hills in Chianti Region

My sister and I enjoyed our 2 nights at the Relais Vignale in Radda in Chianti. While it was in June 2012 and very warm (80s-90s F), the pool was a comfort to have. The rooms are advertised to have air conditioning, but unfortunately--it blew hot air into the room--making it more humid and uncomfortable. Sleeping with cold washcloths was not our idea of AC. Despite the heat, the rest of the hotel was charming. Wifi available in the spacious lobby/seating areas. Very friendly staff who speak English. Gave recommendations for local winery tours. A short walk into town center/tourist information. The restaurant has a good dinner selection, and very knowledgeable wait staff on wine. Breakfast was extensive and included. Bathroom was large and shower was decent size. Only downfall would be the warm room.

Check on room allocation before going

We arrived late having booked a week's stay in a deluxe double only to be given a fairly mediocre room in the main part of the building with a very dissapointing view out across the hotel and courtyard when there are some fabulous views around the hotel given its location high up in the Chianti hills. When we complained about the room the hotel were unable to do anything on the night but changed our room for a more modern room in a modern block across the road which at least had a better view. We were advised that an alternative room would be available on the following day in the main building but the whole idea of staying the week in one place was not to live out of a suitcase or keep changing rooms so we settled with the modern room.

The breakfast buffet was ok and evening meal ok although there are some very good restaurant's in the town and region if you check out tripadvisor. The staff could have been a little more welcoming and pleasant in the bar and restaurant in particular with hardly a smile even after a week.

Although the hotel was pleasant you need to check on which room you're getting before you go and try out the local restaurant's if only to get a smile from the staff.

The real deal

The entire staff of the hotel was spectacular. The included breakfast was a highlight every morning. We dined as we overlooked the expansive Tuscan countryside. After a long day of touring the region, we'd return and enjoy a cocktail in one of the many terraces or lounges. The town of Radda is small and remote. We stayed for four nights and spend our days traveling to other cities and sites. If you are looking for a tranquil spot, this is a must visit.

The hotel and staff were very pleasant. It is as very interesting place that is a made up of a number of buildings on all different levels. The breakfasts are good and the restaurant has a very good menu but doesn't change. Nicely located on the edge of Radda. Plenty of secure parking. Would return to this hotel.

The Relais Vignale is a great place to relax - it has charming rooms with great views, and the food in Radda was great. There were 3 or 4 great choices of places to eat.

The only challenge was getting our bags to/from the rooms - a lot of steps to navigate! So, not a great place for the physically challenged. Aside from that, it was great.

Located in the centre of a beautiful little town in Chianti, which is definitely worth visiting when in Tuscany! the hotel room was very clean, a beautiful building, with amazing view and surroundings. We found it very convenient that it had a great restaurant, bar and wine shop. We stayed at the hotel with a baby and would recommend it to families.

Trip of a lifetime!

We spent the first four nights of October at this lovely hotel and used Radda as our base to explote Tuscany. The hotel is quaint but gracious. The staff bent over backwards for the hotel guests as I needed to call Rome several times looking for a bag. The garden was beautiful and the perfect spot for an afternoon bottle of local wine. We used the pool twice while there. Breakfast was great but we choose dinner elsewhere with outside seating. The Gaiole Vintage bike race came through Radda our first morning there. It set the tone for a great week. Sienna and Florence are a short drive away with many interesting stops in between. Next time we return we may rent for a month in retirement in this lovely area of Italy and Tuscany.

Wow! What a find!

What a wonderful hotel! We didnt know where to stay in Tuscany so last minute booked into the Relais Vignale in Radda. As soon as we arrived, we asked for an additional night! The hotel has a beautiful restaurant, a great bar (with great service and great wines), about 4 lounge areas, a swimming pool... it was the perfect place to spend your time in Tuscany. Radda is beautiful also, an ancient walled town and right in the middle of Chianti so it's a great base for the rest of Tuscany. We loved this hotel though and would recommend to everyone looking for somewhere special. The hotel and staff really made this trip... every afternoon sitting on the balcony overlooking the rolling hills of tuscany with a beautiful bottle of chardonnay... take me back!!

A real charmer

The Relais Vignale is a lovely little hotel and an ideal base for exploring the Chianti region. Do not expect gold-plated-tap luxury but the hotel has bags of charm by way of compensation. Our room was a good size, comfortably furnished and with a delightful view over the vineyards and hills at the back of the hotel. One word of warning ... the bar was a little pricey, as were the restaurants and bars in Radda. The best value was the Dante Alighieri bar just across the road from the Vignale. The menu was limited and basic, but the food was well-cooked and reasonably priced. I would definitely go back.
