This is the best hotel I've experienced. The staff are particularly accommodating and learn guests' names, the grounds are within a peaceful green park, multiple restaurants with ambient settings, breakfast is superb, the rooms are extremely clean with excellent hot water, and the room patios have a nice view. Highly recommended.

Wow factor from the entrance to the checkout .
Everything and more in place for my comfort,logistics and applications.
The upmarket aspect of this whole hotel was sublime ...the way the media handked the whole recreational area outside the hotel as well as using its backdrop to host such an amazing moment in Ugandan Blu3 reunion .
This ambient vivacoius beautifully decorated hotel was perfect for my stay and would reach out to anyone wanting a hotel with a solid foundational flooring woth no ceiling ....\"the benchmark has been set here.\"

My experience

My experience with the staff is excellent. They know their job and they are very friendly. So generally, my experience with the staff from the reception to the breakfast, gym etc was excellent. The only bad experience was the noise I experienced the first night, Saturday the 17th. There was a live band that played till a few minutes after 11pm and they stopped the live band but continued with other music until I called for my room to be changed that night but there was no room available. I complained in the morning that I was disturbed from sleeping. Barnabas in the reception apologised profusely and promised to relocate me to the other wing of the building which he did and I slept better on Sunday night. Otherwise I really do not have much to complain about but to say that I had a great experience.

The hotel is showing its age. The service here is great and I would definitely stay here again. The food service in the lobby restaurant takes too long for a quick lunch in between meetings. Not sure why it takes so long. The rooms are very clean and they have a nice size desk to work at. The bathrooms at least my room did not have any hooks for hanging things and no counter space.

This is an older hotel so the rooms are slightly smaller however the location is excellent and the rooms have great views. It is within 5 minutes walk of every site of interest in downtown Kampala.
The breakfast is excellent with a huge buffet filled with many items. Multiple restaurants with excellent yet well priced options.
The staff is amazingly helpful and polite.

Hotels.com listing showed “airport shuttle.” Did not say “available.” Gave impression it was a courtesy shuttle. After I arrived at the hotel, I was charged $50, an amount I later learned was one hundred to two hundred percent the “going rate.”
Juice offered (and unfortunately consumed) was delicious, but made me sick within 30 minutes and for the next 24 hours.
Elevator didn’t work consistently with room cards and attendant was unable to help.
Staff never called back (despite assurances they would) when we called to inquire about a left behind personal item.

Liked: Good pool and trainers in the gym, nice grounds and security, comfortable bed and rooms

Disliked: Room had a mold smell, asked to change rooms for that reason but the second room also had the same problem. It's not the hotels fault but the noise coming from the \"Rock\" bar and grill across the street made it very difficult to sleep. It was every night (out of 4) until after 1am. A room on the quiet side wasn't available.

Appalling service; nightclub will keep you awake

I was not allowed to check in for nearly two hours after arriving at 18:15 in the evening on a prepaid booking.
Then I was given the wrong type of room and told I would moved the next morning, and that I could leave my packed suitcase in the room.

I didn't sleep much that night because the hotel has a NIGHTCLUB downstairs.

After getting back to the hotel at 16:00 the next day, I had to wait another hour until I could check in.

Room keycards are very prone to failure and felt like a lottery every time I left the room. I had to reactivate mine 3 times and I kept it away from my phone. People were having keycards reactivated every time I went pas reception.

Laundry and other charges are extortionate.

Rooms are quite tatty in places.

I had to argue for 5 minutes to have someone else's café charges removed from my bill. I had not visited that café at all.

Sheraton shabby/yellow water/gracious staff

Hotel looks lovely from the outside and lobby is nice, outside landscaped terrace for cocktails and dinner is lovely. Staff was mostly very gracious and helpful. The rooms themselves are shabby, they have a sign they are redoing them so maybe it'll be better in future. My colleague and I each tried to take a bath and the water was deep yellow/brown our entire stay (opted for showers). We arrived at midnight from international flight and ordered dinner at the bar, plus mineral water. Took 30 minutes (!) to get mineral water and after an hour no food, we inquired several times and kept being told it was coming. At 1 am, they said \"10 more minutes\" but exhausted and hungry we went to our rooms, asked if they could bring it up. I finally gave up, went to sleep and put Do Not Disturb on the door. Then the phone rang later and woke me saying he was there to deliver my dinner. It was 2 am! Other than that very frustrating welcome, the staff was helpful. We only ate at the buffer after because we were afraid about the wait if we ordered a la carte.

Excellent Family atmosphere

I spent Christmas week there and was thoroughly satisfied. The hotel is quite luxurious. There is an excellent selection of cafes within the hotel premises and you can have a meal at a different place each time. The fitness center is very well equipped an the two instructors Richard and Kenneth are very willing to help. The staff were very friendly and even without prompting were willing to spend time with my daughter. Specific thanks goes to the Debra in guest relations and Winnie at the Victoria restaurant.
On Christmas day were were surprised with a confectionery gift pack that was an excellent a gesture. On the whole I am totally happy with the experience. Will definitely come back

Great location

Sheraton has a great location and unbelievable grounds reminding you of its grand old days. Just missing the zest today. Everything is aged a little. If I would pay less than USD 200, I wouldn't mind, but when paying real bucks, I don't see why it should not be measured against any other top hotel.

A Balloon That Burst

Growing up in Uganda, everyone I knew wanted to stay at the Sheraton. Downstairs at the reception, waiting to go to my room, I was excited. At last: the Sheraton was mine. While I waited, the staff fussed over me. I sat at the lobby coffee house. Impressive as usual. Then I went to my room. First thing: when I flushed the toilet, it flushed right back at me. I called maintainence. I do not know if he came. My bed was not as comfortable; it felt like this hotel had not stepped up to the standard of other Sheratons. Back downstairs, I continued to be impressed by the food and the service. The bar was excellent. But I continued to dread my room.

Beware the Sheraton Kampala Booking Policy

We had booked and pre paid an SPG room at the Sheraton Kampala We arrived from Nairobi about 3.10pm just after the 3pm check in. We were told there were no rooms available and could we wait 15 minutes, 30 minutes maybe 45 minutes for a room We reluctantly went to the lounge and after 30 minutes asked about a room, nothing had been done, so we returned to the front desk. They then admitted they were overbooked. We agreed to compromise on the room booked but were told we hadn't to wait. We stood at the front desk for another 30 minute session and refused to move despite many requests to \"please sit\" After another 30 minutes wait and a further round of asking for a different room or another hotel we were taken to the 6th floor where it looked like management were cleaning rooms and a part cleaned room was available. The staff were always polite but entirely ineffectual and unconcerned.

The rest of the stay was great The wait staff were attentive The pool clean The 4 seas restaurant and breakfast fantastic. There were some usual confusions over a car and driver that we had booked ( or not according to the concierge - did they really think we wanted to travel at 0100 in the morning?)

Unfortunately the visit was tainted by the farce at check in and lack of willingness to be honest about the room situation

Way below par for Sheraton Hotel

On the night of June 15th there was noise coming in my room. I realized the source of the noise was from the roof outside. I called the operator and I explained that noise was from the outside. He asked if my window or sliding door was open. I said it is close. The operator indicated it was “mechanical” noise from the roof. He indicated we can change room in the morning. In the meantime, I need to stay in my room until the next morning. I finally went to sleep at 2:15 AM. On June 16th, after I got to the hotel at 6 PM after long day out I went to the front desk and indicated the issue I had the night before. She saw the note about my move to another room. She indicated the room that I will move is not ready. Again, this was June 16th at 6 PM. I have to wait an hour. I waited patiently.

At this price I expected a little nicer, but overall, just fine. Here's my complaints: when flushing the toilet it would splash all over the seat, and sometimes onto the floor. Gross.

The door was a tight fit and had to be forcefully slammed shut. Both noisy and irritating. It somehow shook the door frame so much that the inside latch closed behind me, and then I couldn't get back into my room, because it was locked from the inside. Creepy! We had to have a maintenance guy tear the old lock off.

Lastly, if you are a vegetarian, be extra careful. They like to put beef strips into their morning potatoes, and meat in their veggie samosas.

Overall, a nice hotel. Heavy on security, with a friendly staff. Awesome city view from miniature balcony.

Expensive option - your paying for the name

The room price was ok (a little high), but the food was way overpriced and not very good. The complimentary internet connectivity was weak and unreliable making it very difficult to get any work done. The bathroom had a strong oder that I suspect was coming from the mold growing on the grout in the shower. On the plus side, the bed was very comfortable and the staff were very pleasant. All in all, I am glad I was only there for one night and I will not be back. There are several nicer and less expensive local options that charge half as much for a nice comfortable room and a fraction of the cost for a decent meal.

A little luxury after a hard 10 days!

We booked the Sheraton as we had been around quite a few hotels before and didn't really like any of them. We knew that the Sheraton is a franchise and, therefore, that standards would have to be high. The only comments on the actual building would be that the public bathrooms on the ground floor all need upgrading as they are shabby. The pool area although clean and well maintained is also in need of a bit of tender loving care! The food in all the restaurants we found varied and very tasty. The steak we had at the lower restaurant was one of the best We have ever eaten! We would strongly recommend anyone who is thinking of staying at this hotel, that they book into the \"Club\" rooms as there is the benefit of copious supplies of bottled water and also entrance into the Club lounge where refreshments are free all day and also includes free wine and alcohol from 6.00 - 8.00 every evening. The atmosphere is calm and its a perfect place to relax!

Up market hotel with very high food costs, and room is too small for such a high price. I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful, and they appeared to be happy in their work. However, I would advise to pay a little bit extra and go club, because the club lounge is fantastic and breakfast, coffee, tea, snacks and juice up there, while limited in range, is free! I am glad to have stayed there, but overall there are better hotels in down the road offering buffet breakfast inclusive, for not as much money.

The hotel itself was comfortable but aside from two exceptions the service was bad. We understood the need for tight security but we were treated like terrorists from the time we arrived at the gate. The security staff were rough and exceptionally rude to our driver. Once inside the hotel the staff were not friendly and not interested in helping us - even when it came to trying to pay for things. The final straw was the morning we checked out. We had an early morning flight and the restaurants were not open yet so we ordered a room service breakfast. Not only did the breakfast not show up but when I called to find out when it would arrive they never called back with an update. We are not difficult people to please but this experience really tried our patience. We would not stay at this hotel again. We would recommend paying a bit more for one of the other hotels downtown or staying at a resort outside the city. There is very little to see and do in the downtown.

Front Desk staff could not find my hotels.com booking, despite me showing it to them on my iPad. The result was waiting 45mins before they could put me in a room. I was furious about this, because my girlfriend and i were so worn out and not feeling well. I also was turned away at breakfast the next morning in shorts and sandals. This hotel is only for people on business. You're going to feel out of place if you're there for any other reason. Despite the nice rooms, I give this hotel a 1 - I'm not paying $300 a night to be treated so rudely.

Great location for business

I stay there regularly and it is extremely good for business. It has a pool and fitness centre, neither of which I have even used, but they do look excellent. Food is good, service is excellent and I would not stay anywhere else.

That said, prices seem to be creeping up and while a couple of years ago, I would have said it offered real value for money, now I am less sure. It could use a bit of a facelift - but that would, of course, result in prices being pushed up even more, so maybe not such a good idea.

Western amenities in Kampala

I was pleasantly surprised with my stay at the Kampala Sheraton. The hotel itself is on beautiful grounds close to downtown and an easy boda or taxi ride to great restaurants. My room had a great view over downtown. The rooms and linens are upscale and what you would expect from a Sheraton hotel. Water pressure was great. I recommend the club floors since you get access to the club suite - definitely worth the small bit of extra money I paid. Also, the internet access was fantastic - no problems there. The food was pretty good although the room service menu is limited and the strawberry cheesecake was inedible.

Good for Business Travelers

The Hotel is very appropriate for business. The staff is friendly, and it has some great areas in the lobby to have business meetings.
