The buffet breakfast offered is $20 a person- you’re better off walking to a cafe in the mornings. The “City view” room was not worth the price. Area was close to a handful of restaurants and a 35 min walk to Balboa Park. If you’re scared of homeless people on the streets don’t book this hotel. Rooms do not have microwaves and we had issues with our sink and toilet not flushing/draining properly. They fixed the sink but our toilet only fully flushed every other flush…weird and frustrating. I recommend renting a car, Ubers were pricey. There’s a small bar in the lobby which was great for a night cap drink. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to my friends for what we paid. 7/10

Poor Amenities. Please fix refrigerators. The compressors in them buzz constantly making the night sleep so uncomfortable.

Staff attending us, was so adamant about fixing this issue. It was almost implied that booking the travel thru Expedia wasn’t recommended by the hotel front desk. When asked to switch rooms due to the compressor issue, as mentioned above.

Expedia should work with these partners to treat their guests equally, as it would have been if the reservation was made through the Hotel’s website.

Expedia, please do a better job. Losing trust in the service.

The location is the best, super close to everything. 5 minutes away from MCRD if you’re planning to attend a Marine Graduation. Rooms were big & spacious, super clean & staff was lovely. Note - parking & breakfast are offered but NOT included in the reservation. Parking is $35/day and breakfast is at the on-site restaurant for $20/person. Either way still better than parking elsewhere or eating somewhere else. Would defintely stay here again.

Looks like a weird location tucked right beside the freeway, but just a couple of minutes walk to Little Italy, so an excellent location overall. Nice views of the city, particularly from the top floor. I walked everywhere: Balboa Park, Little Italy, the waterfront. Easy Uber/Lyft from the airport. My top floor room was spacious and comfortable.

Room was tidy and had a home-y feeling. However, I was unfortunately placed at a room near the freeway, and could hear cars roaming in and out during the night through the A/C vent system. Also, the hotel ADA entry door would have its motor rewind itself internally every now and then, making significant noise. Aside from that, this hotel is still a solid spot to stay at if you plan on staying in downtown San Diego.

Very unique building and great location. We chose to not pay for breakfast add-on for the full stay, but did do one morning. I would not do the breakfast again unless they improve on the offerings. The rooms are cozy, our room had some minor cosmetic issues that need to be addressed otherwise the say was good. This is located right off a freeway ramp, so great location. Staff was very responsive whenever we needed something. Would stay here again.

I feel like the dextro is trying to be several things that it is emphatically not. it’s not a slick, hip modern stay. it’s not an elegant niche inn. it would be a better experience if the management acknowledged what it actually is, which is a casual but aging property with some limitations. our city-view room overlooked the busy freeway. the room could have been cleaner. it wasn’t dirty, but it wasn’t immaculate. the shower was tired and so close to the toilet that exiting was perilous. overall, it wasn’t the stay we expected and parking was very expensive.

I enjoyed staying there. Everybody was friendly and stuff, but I would put a bigger clock in there. I will put rugs in the bathroom. I’ll see if the windows open wish you guys had a microwave that would help me with when you went out to dinner. you had leftovers and you wanted to not spending money the next day for lunch you can eat the leftovers but other than that was everything was great highly recommend and I would stay there again

The Dextro is a nice place to stay, but the traffic noise is a bit much at night. Wish I had brought my ear plugs for better sleep. Nice little bar and restaurant that serves breakfast and light dinner snacks. Great bartender!

This hotel is in a great spot downtown, but be aware parking is $35 a day, so I chose to find street parking nearby instead. There is no elevator at the top floor of parking and you will have to walk alongside where cars are driving up. The cleanliness was excellent, the floor was very clean and I appreciated that so much. Hotel staff were very friendly and informative. The only experience I was disappointed by at this hotel was the food at the restaurant. After spending 8hrs of travel time to make it there, I previously checked the restaurant menu online to avoid having to drive somewhere else for dinner the night of check-in. I saw a pizza on the menu and figured that would be good enough to fill up 2 people. When the server walked towards me with a personal-sized pizza, my sister and I just looked at each other with poker faces. My issue with that was first of all, not only the fact that it was TWENTY DOLLARS, but also the fact that the menu does not list the size of the pizza. Who in their right mind would willingly pay $20 for one personal-sized pizza???? If I had known it was going to be that small, I absolutely would not have ordered it in the first place. I ended up having to order food over DoorDash, because 2 small slices of thin pizza were nothing for 2 hungry adults! Overall, I would stay here again for the convenience and service but I would not eat at the restaurant.

I went San Diego 3 days. They only cleaned for one day, and I had to insist that they do it. They said that cleaning is not daily—contrary to what Hotels described in their site.

I often visit San Diego and when I do, I always see The DEXTRO off the freeway. I booked my stay and to my surprise it was an excellent visit. The staff were very helpful and the room was clean upon arrival. My visit was short so I wasn’t able to try out their breakfast but other amenities such as the pool and fitness area were to my liking. It is walking distance from many food shops and stores to which my vehicle was not needed most of the time. I would very much book another stay for my next visit!

The room was pretty clean, my only issue was the toilet did have some splatter under the toilet seat from the previous person. The property itself was very clean. The staff was great, I don’t recall his name but the guy who checked me in was great, very friendly and very helpful! I did not get into the pool but I did check it out; it was very clean as well.
