They did not disclose that there is no lift. It was a 55 step climb to our room- and we are elderly. We had requested the deluxe room - 8 months in advance- and assumed we would be given a good room. Besides being on the top floor we did not have a balcony and the window was small and difficult to open. The room was set up sleep 3 people -it was a family room not a deluxe room. it definitely was not the deluxe pictured. When I asked for a different room- cleaner and more as pictured- I was told they did not have any available. All the deluxe rooms were scheduled for use. I found it strange that even though I booked months ago, the better rooms were being handed out to recent requests. Was this because I booked through a third party? The furnishings in the room I was given were a jumble of old, damaged castoff furniture- not antiques Nothing seemed to have been considered in decorating. It was just provide a bed and bathroom. . The floor was cracked, the bathroom had a prefab shower stall that was ringed with mold. The toilet was stuck between the sink - with towel bar- and wall -that didn’t allow you room to maneuver. We have stayed in other converted convents - but those had been refurbished properly. The pictures on line did not reflect what you were given. Such a shame that a historic property is being allowed to disintegrate and sadder still that they are scamming people to stay there.
The redeeming factor was the lovely breakfast staff who tried hard to please.

Outstanding in every way. The only issue are the stairs: two long floors carrying heavy luggage are not doable for older people, people with mobility problems or just exhausted tourists. We would atill come back to this charming hotel.

From convenient parking, to the staff, the breakfast, the quaint rooms, and overall atmosphere, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay in Siena. The old-world charm of this former monastery just added to the experience.
If you’re looking for a great place to stay in Siena, we highly recommend this place. And Siena itself was the perfect place from which to explore the rest of Tuscany by car.

The Chiostro was a great find.
The people are really helpful and friendly. The breakfast team do a great job and are really keen to go the extra mile. The room has a fantastic fresco (not the only one in the hotel) on the wall and many of the ceilings have artwork.
Sitting in the cloisters reading or sipping some wine was so relaxing. Upstairs you find a sort of mini museum in a meeting room that looks like it has not changed in a century or two.
If you like history, this is a good place to stay.

The hotel is set in a lovely authentic building with a central outdoor courtyard. Rooms are spacious, a little tired but very clean. There isn’t a bar, there is a well stocked fridge for guests to serve themselves. Breakfast is good with a good choice.

Unique hotel within an old monastery. Functional rooms and perfect location within walking distance to various attractions in Siena.

However, the customer service is lacking. The parking situation is tricky due to traffic laws and is only explained (not very clearly) over the phone if you call up in advance - it would be a lot easier to have an email with instructions. We also had issues with our air on that wasn’t resolved until late into the evening. The reception staff were friendly and helpful on other occasions!

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful city. Our experience was marred by poor communication from the hotel and the apparent disengagement of staff.
Please be aware that if you drive to this hotel you need to follow the precise guidelines the hotel gives so as to avoid traffic fines. These are however not given unless you enquire in advance and you would only be prompted to do so if you read to the end of their email communications.
Travellers on a busy schedule don’t always do that so staff absolving themselves of responsibility does not sit well when the situation becomes abundantly clear on arrival due to notices all over the hotel.
Apart from that, Siena is beautiful and this hotel makes a convenient base.

The property is within easy access from the main centre plaza.
The hotel is quite old and authentic in its decor. There is no lift and we were placed on the top floor carrying up very heavy suitcases.
The plugs wouldn’t work with our chargers even with the adapters so we had to buy new chargers which eventually worked.

Fantastic views from our room. Need to be in shape to access the rooms. The access to the Palazzo is a 15 minute walk. You can park at the hotel parking area for about 15 euro/night. The staff is very friendly. You'll need to communicate with them if you plan to park at the hotel since they need to register your vehicle with the police. Siena is truly a medieval marvel and this property give you access to the wonders of Siena.

The hotel is amazing! This hotel was a monastery built in the 13th century. Major problem, no elevator. The rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors. Ours was on the 3rd, hauling luggage was not fun. The other annoying part was the included breakfast started at 8am. We had an early train reservation which meant no breakfast for us. When we explained at the front desk, they didn’t offer any solutions.

The construction is going on around the area. I rather not stay in Siena generally. Lots of headache to get in to ZTL area and hard to get out of it. Google map is not accurate. Review saying breakfast is good but not the best.

Quaint hotel, delicious breakfast with a great variety. Lovely courtyard. We knew about the stairs up to the room, we were not aware of the stairs inside our room between the washroom and the bedroom. We had a rental car and the desk explained that we had to report when we came in or out of the city gate. However, we came back in the late afternoon and had a dinner reservation in a small town nearby. We could not go to that restaurant because we had used our privileges for that day. We were not aware of that clause and were disappointed. Also, not aware that a 15 euro per night charge for the vehicle.

They had no air. The heat was on . I got it turned off but it was humid . No screens on windows could not open them . No elevator so you had to drag your bags up the stairs. Overall it was not the charming place . In the pics looked renovated but it was not . Even the first floor was up stairs . Not good at all !!

It’s very unique to stay in a historic place built in 1200. The room was super quiet thanks to high ceilings and thick walls (you can still hear some noise). Those stairs are well worn but such a nice place to look around.

We had a roof-top balcony but it was shared with two other rooms. Only once did we have company but the view and the Siena nights were wonderful.

The breakfast had a very good selection for a continental breakfast and was quite tasty.

However those mattresses on the beds were saggy and very worn. They definitely need to be replaced. Sadly we had a very poor sleep!

Check-in was easy, directions were clear, breakfast was provided, and the place was beautiful!

When we left early the next morning, the attendant called us a taxi and had the dining room prepare us a breakfast to go, with pastries, yogurt, and bottled water.

Extremely accommodating! Can't wait to return!

\"Chiostro\" has that special charm that an 18th century nun`s cloister can transmit. Unfortunately, the rooms, a bit basic in their furnishings but otherwise good-sized and comfortable, are in need of maintenance. In our case, we would have to turn the aircon off every night, as its noise made it impossible to sleep - luckily, if the room was kept at maximum cool during the whole day, the room would remain cool enough for the night`s sleep. The hand shower would not fit, and could thus not stay fixed, into its socket - hand held showering only! We can not really recommend \"Chiostro\".

I wrote to Expedia and explained that we would not be going to Siena and did not need the room a month before we left. Expedia wrote back and said the room was non-refundable. The hotel is very pretty, quaint and clean. The staff are very friendly and personable. A leaking drain in bathroom sink was fixed promptly and well by Santo. The maids do a great job cleaning. The breakfast is the best I have ever experienced. The staff are very accommodating and provide anything that you ask for. For an old building, the property is very attractive and does not smell moldy in anyway. It's centrally located and all major attractions are within walking distance. Major supermarkets are further away which is understandable but a Carrefour Express is located a few steps away.I will recommend this hotel to my friends and family members.

This is a very nice and convenient place to stay. It has an old historic feel which we really liked. There are no elevators and some rooms are on the second and third floor, so be aware of this. It has a lovely courtyard. we would happily stay there again.

Il Chiostro del Carmine is a beautiful place to stay and well located, a 10 minute walk to the Duomo and the Piazza di Campo. (It’s a 10 minute taxi ride to the train station.) Our room was quite small but very elegant with a view onto the roofs of Siena. The staff were welcoming and happy to assist in any way. Breakfast was included and there was a very good selection of food. I would certainly recommend this hotel and would stay there again if we were in Siena.

This property is unique because it's in a former monastery from the 13th century. However, it is in need of routine maintenance and more attention to daily upkeep in the rooms. The toilet was not functioning properly, the soap containers were never refilled in the bathroom, the small refrigerator didn't work and the air conditioning was intermittent. The front desk staff was helpful in arranging transportation, however, and the breakfast was very good.

Séjour tres bien à l’exception du petit dejeuner pris à 9:40 alors que la fin était à 10 h , presque plus rien à manger mais surtout cuisinier particulièrement désagréable et arrogant, à partir de 9:50 débarrassage du buffet avec énormément de bruit comme dans une cantine …qualité des produits passable mais plein de rupture. Personnel à reprendre en main tres sérieusement au petit déjeuner. Dommage car le reste de l’équipe était charmante et serviable. Cuisinier à recadrer tres tres sérieusement , merci aux autres. A short walk from the Duomo and El Campo, Il Chiostro Hotel (The Cloisters) is an oasis of calm in the busy city of Siena. The ancient building is set in a cloistered garden where drinks and snacks are served in the cool of the evening, often by Adil who takes personal pride in the premises, the kitchen and the garden. Breakfast is full of variety and the fruit is absolutely fresh and hand-cut. Special requests, such as a very long cappuccino, are not only served with a smile by Fatima but remembered the next morning. Some of the breakfast tables are next to large windows that can be thrown open to enjoy the fresh air and stunning views of the countryside around Siena. The hard-working staff of Il Chiostro quickly felt like family.

A team works hard at Reception and we are very grateful to Marta, Matteo and Rachele for their cheerful responses to all our requests.

Siena is a city built on hills and not suitable for people with impaired mobility. There is hardly a level surface beyond the Campo and church interiors. Similarly, Il Chiostro requires some mobility. There are some rooms at ground level and an Albatross stair lift to the first floor. After that you’re on your own. The stone staircase is a workout and worn in places by centuries of nuns making their daily observances. If you enjoy a sense of history, Il Chiostro is for you. If you prefer modern, minimalist accommodation, look elsewhere.

We enjoyed the historic aspect of staying in an ancient convent. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good and the view from breakfast area is absolutely beautiful. There was bar service in the courtyard in the evenings which looked great...but we didn't take advantage of this. Our room was very spacious, the a/c really couldn't keep it cool. The staff was very attentive to the issue but it was never resolved. They did end up bringing us a fan which we really appreciated. The location is great...short walk to shopping, restaurants, the square. There is a great little laundry facility very close by...it was laundry day for us!

The staff is super friendly and provided directions/ recommendations to restaurants and things to do around. Please keep in mind that these are really historic buildings in the heart of Sienna, the hotels do no have elevators and would have to take the luggage to your rooms through the stairs .

lovely stay in a characterful and pleasant hotel

The courtyard makes this hotel very special, such a lovely space to relax or have a drink in the evenings. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The parking is only just around the corner, and the location of the hotel is perfect for walking to all the sights, and nice restaurants.

Good for location and parking

The stay at Chiostro was good. The hotel is well located within the walls of Siena. The bedroom was clean and comfy. It offers also parking within the walls of siena which comes handy. Only area of improvement is breakfast, not enough options.
