The garden of the hotel itself is lovely, especially the garden cafe. But don’t be fooled. The issue is parking (do not rent a car if you stay at this hotel—it is a literal nightmare checking in); the lack of an elevator for heavy bags; the rooms being outdated; and the loud sound. We had to get earplugs and even with the multiple levels of windows closed the restaurant and bar are open until 11pm daily and loud throughout the day. We modified our plans to stay out later because there is no way to sleep before then—let alone any type of real privacy.

We had to carry or bags from the parking garage near the train station. The hotel does not provide parking information before arrival and we were led to believe parking is an available on site—it’s not. There was no space to park our car temporarily during check in. My husband had to circle the block 3 times before dropping me off so I could get parking information while he continued to drive on busy streets. Then I got parking information from the hotel for the congested garage that didn’t work in one lane. My husband had to back out with cars behind him to use a lane that worked. We walked a few blocks to the hotel with our luggage on cobble stone streets (prone to destroy luggage) and then it had to be carried up flights on stairs. To only get to our room with loud music and restaurant sound immediately below our room.

The hotel looks nice but is definitely not quite peaceful nor relaxing.

We had a wonderful stay at Pergola. The location is perfect, a few minutes walk from the train station and very close to the beach and local amenities. The staff were lovely and helpful, and the breakfast was fabulous. I would highly recommend and loved all the small touches.

Staff was awesome, went beyond the call of duty. Breakfast was good, not great. Same menu every day. Rooms facing the restaurant, like ours, are noisy at night until service is over. Uber will not stop here for some reason, but excellent location.

Pergola Boutique Hotel is Delightful

The staff is friendly and super helpful. The restaurant is beautiful and very much worth having a meal at. The hotel is conveniently located. Parking is a challenge. You'll need to unload luggage if you are traveling by car and then park in a municipal garage a few blocks away. Be careful about parking in the 15-minute zone a few doors down and definitely don't park in the pace reserved for ambulances. Aside from that, we loved our stay at the Pergola.

We loved this hotel in Cascais - in the charming old town. It has a delightful garden/restaurant at the entrance. We ate there a couple of times - food was delicious. Our room was comfortable and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Would be happy to stay here again.

This is a review our party of 6 and 3 room stay at The Pergola Hotel.

•Beautiful Spaces: The hotel is stunning. The front garden is breathtaking (especially flowers) and the interior and rooms feel authentically Portuguese.

•Service Level Could be Improved: The level of service from hotel staff could be improved. You can tell the establishment is solely focused on the restaurant and not hotel, the restaurant had 5-8 visible staff while the hotel only ever had 1-2. Employee was not as welcoming and friendly upon check-in and we had to ask for help carrying bags up stairs (no elevator). There was one gentleman who came later in the day that was very friendly and helpful!

•Room Quality Could be Improved: The rooms walls had dents and unfinished/unpainted spot. Shower drains were not working and would quickly fill up and spill while showering. The rooms were nice but needed maintenance.

Overall, I’d recommend this hotel despite the 2 opportunities. It did feel like a boutique hotel and space is stunning.

What can I say about the staff but amazing, a great friendly welcome, never had a check in where you are seated in Chesterfield chairs and offered your choice of drink while your dignified host encourages and engages with you and makes you feel individually welcolme (as I am trying to learn Portuguese he spoke patient Portuguese with me to help me learn)

The rooms are charming, the garden outside is lovely, the location is excellent for the train and for a short walk to any location you would wish to visit.

I had a very excellent breakfast here on my final day which is prepared a la carte, which I always think is better and less wasteful. But I didn't try the food on the evening though the bar was nice and it was quite busy with diners on an evening.

Charming place throughout and you won't get better treatment at check in at any of the best hotels in the world.

A good not great stay

A good (not great) stay at the Pergola.

Positives:
Comfortable bed, great shower.
Super friendly and helpful concierge.
Service at breakfast great (depending on who you get)
Beautiful setting and gardens

Cons:
Can be very lacklustre service for drinks/breakfast, with forgotten orders, or being forgotten all together.

Missing some hotel standards; can’t hang a note on door saying do not disturb, or clean my room, leading to issues with housekeeping (not their fault, they have to guess who is in)

Minimal storage; it is a beautiful house, but lacks some basics - definitely worth staying with that in mind.

Sound really travels! - again, due to the nature of the house, you hear everything. On some sites it’s marketed as adults only - when we were there we had young children very upset in halls from 10pm - midnight. Felt for them and the parents as the sound just echoed everywhere ☹️. Not sure if it is still adults only or not, but don’t head in thinking you’ll have a deep sleep.

Overall, felt like one for the influencers to snap, as opposed to a truly relaxing stay. It’s a shame, as the staff are on the whole wonderful, as is the space, but it’s not quite gelling.

I would not recommend this hotel.
It didn’t meet the online description.
The hotel is an old, room smelled like mold, Bathtub/shower water did not drain water properly, light bulbs need to be replaced, walls need to be painted. No TV, no elevator, no receptionist after 5 pm.
We booked for 3 nights, but had to leave after one night because of the unsatisfactory conditions. The staff was nice and we had no issues canceling the remaining two nights. Were able to find a much better place and had a great time in Cascais.

Pergola House is a grand old family home. It is very conveniently located to the train station and you can walk to everything in Cascais. The guesthouse staff can’t do enough for you. Great breakfast on white linen in a beautiful room in the house. And port served in the evening in an elegant, tiled sitting room of the house. Cascais is a beautiful little town on the ocean. If you are in Lisbon or traveling in Portugal, Pergola House and Cascais is definitely worth a visit.

So cool and amazing, amazing service!

Hi this house is SO cool and the service is BEYOND!!! They even helped me book a cave tour in the Algarve, far away, and my train tickets for a big journey .. it was like a CLASS in how to do customer service well! The only drawback was noise around the house .. you are in a house .. but I loved this place and would DEF stay here again, many, many times!

Lovely house.

We spent six nights at Pergola House and it was a great experience. Very genteel, soft music in the dining room at breakfast, wonderful paintings in the living room, and sweeping staircases. The staff were wonderful, friendly and very helpful.
All areas were very clean and well maintained, the garden lovely, and I’m sure in the summer it will be stunning as it was lovely in spring.
The only negative for me was that the mattress was too hard. I didn’t bring this to anyone’s attention though so am not really complaining, just commenting.
Overall we had a great time there.

This place is absolutely beautiful. When my now-fiancee (I proposed there!) stayed, people would stop by on the street just to take a picture of it. Our room was cozy and spacious. If you're looking for something new and fancy, this might not be your place, but if you're looking for something classic and clean and comfortable, with wonderful and workable old fixtures and furniture, this is your place. We loved the deck, and the breakfast was very good, and it's a hop skip and a jump from town. It's also really really affordable. In the U.S., you'd be paying $500 a night for this kind of place. You should stay here.

We had a great stay at Pergola House in Jan, 2017. on arrival we got upgraded to the premium suite by the lovely lady at the reception. Was a superb stay there and enjoyed the proximity to the beach and sights. Also they did a lush breakfast and serve a port at 6pm for all guests. Great B&B in Town & Close to Beach

My husband and myself spent four nights at the Pergola House B&B which was one of the best experiences we have had with B&B's.

We would stay again in a heart beat, only Portugal is a once and a lifetime trip for us.

The mansion with its marble stairs and full of antiques, with modern comforts made us feel like we had stepped back into the past.

The breakfasts were as expected and we were not disappointed. Lots of fresh everything and plenty of choices.

I met a man while having my sherry one evening who he and his family were on there third visit to the B&B. The next morning I could see the staff greeting them like family, a pleasant site to see.

The grounds are very well kept and so peaceful in the heart of Cascais. We were able to walk to the beach in just a few minutes. The train station was just as close and took us 40 minutes to get to Lisbon on clean well kept trains. Walking all over town was easy with lots of choices for restaurants.

Have to admit we tried Japanese and Indian food which we should have left for trips to those countries. Or have in Canada where we are use to the Canadian interpretation.

Only sorry that Portugal is so far away.

We did meet family living in Sintra which could make a return trip one of these days possible.

Thank you again all the staff at Pergola House we will be talking about you and your town for a very long time to come.

If you are traveling in the Lisbon area, consider this hotel. It is historic and gorgeous, inside and out, in a wonderful area. It is a ways from downtown Lisbon, but this area is lively and charming as well. Heartily recommended for all. Great breakfast as well!

Adorable little hotel in a great location

We only stayed one night in Cascais but very glad we chose to stay here! The staff is absolutely wonderful and accommodated us with having breakfast ready earlier than normal since we had to leave before it started to catch a train. The patio area is beautiful and their happy hour in the afternoon is lovely to sit with a glass of wine and snacks. You are in a perfect location in the heart of Cascais close to the beach, shops, and wonderful restaurants. They do not have an elevator though so be prepared to carry up your suitcases to your room. The rooms were pleasant and the bathrooms are fun authentic tiling that fits the house perfectly. Not your large fancy hotels but definitely the way to experience Cascais in my opinion!

This is a unique house & right in the town centre.

The house offers comfortable & fairly spacious rooms with sizeable bathrooms. There is an elegant lounge for the guests. The staff are absolutely terrific - so warm & welcoming that we will return just to see the staff again. The breakfasts are served in the lovely gardens. Caiscais is a lovely little seaside town just like an old fashioned British resort. It is only 35minutes on the train to Lisbon. The station is just around the corner.

A home-from-home. Highly recommended.

My favourite place I stayed in during my 2-week trip to Portugal. Felt like a true home-from-home with a fabulous house, lovely warm and welcoming staff, within walking distance from the train station and walking distance to 3 beautiful beaches (and more if you have some transport). I was in the smallest room in the back but it was lovely, with a large bathroom. No view, but I didn't expect or mind that. I just got out into the sun and explored Cascais through the day! This place feels like a labour of love, rather than a commercial enterprise. Highly recommended.

A large house, in the middle of town, with a large garden in the front to sit in the evening for a glass of Port or eat breakfast. Need to stay at least 2 days. Good parking garage up the street . but not easy to find.

Pros - friendly and welcoming. Room comfortable and quiet. Great breakfast (especially in the gardens)
Cons - couldn't get wifi in the room (had to go downstairs). Able to see into bathroom from corridor due to improperly sealed keyhole

Beautiful location and breakfast! Pergola managers were very friendly and accommodating when I needed directions, tourist info, hot water, or to simply leave my luggage in storage after I checked out. Romantic mansion and gardens. Bathroom was big. Only complaint is that the mattress was hard. Their kindness and price made up for it!

Beautiful house, beautiful location, great staff

We stayed in Cascais for 2 nights, and we truly enjoyed this guesthouse. The service is extremely friendly, helpful and professional. The gardens are breathtaking, and its location is perfect. The breakfast was excellent, and we enjoyed eating outside in the gardens. I have nothing negative to say about this guesthouse, we were 100% impressed and satisfied we our choice. Highly recommended!

Wonderful, charming bed and breakfast

Pergola House is fantastic. It's a wonderful old mansion, complete with old furnishings and a garden (but the rooms and bathrooms are of course updated.) The staff is wonderful to deal with - extremely nice. The location couldn't be better as it's right in the center of everything. My only regret is not staying for more than one night!

very nice hotel to stay

all staff are always smiling and willing to help guests. I had received a special consideration that I did not have to change a room from a economy double room to a standard room. - I booked one night (first night) for economy double and two nights (second and third nights) for a standard room. Thanks to a manager, I was able to stay at a standard room with a garden view for totally three nights, without changing a room.

Fantastic

This stay was fantastic in a beautiful place. Everything was just as it should be. The service was the best, the location as well. I would stay there again and again. By the way , it is just across the street from the best ice cream I have ever had.
