2 night stay in the middle of August. Ample parking, smooth check in process, up one floor in a small lift to our rather large room.

Lovely decor and the fairly usual accompaniments found within the bathroom made for a welcoming experience. The bed was on the softer side for my liking but still comfortable to sleep on. The downside to the room was the lack of air conditioning. Overall a good room to pick.

The grounds the hotel is situated are beautiful, during the sunny days we stayed there the building shone in all its glory with all staff members warm and welcoming.

We visited the spa midway through our stay, we can’t comment on the treatments as we didn’t opt to have any this time round, the pool area was clean and well maintained.

Now time for the showstopper. The in house dining experience at this establishment is nothing short of spectacular. Please make sure you plan and book at least one meal here, starting off in a lounge area just off of the main reception you’re given your menus, asked if you’d like some drinks and a small bowl of nibbles. It’s advisable to arrive in the lounge a little bit before the time you booked your table to allow you to make the most of the experience. Once ordered, you’re then escorted through to the dining room, which is well laid out and has an extraordinary view. Once at the table, enjoy the truly exquisite food!

I apologise for not being able to single out individual members of staff, the staff we interacted with were incredible!

Amazing staff throughout stay but room was tired

Really lovely helpful staff. We paid for an upgrade as initial room was small with view of flat roof.
Upgraded to suite for an extra £50 for one night but smelt musty and far too hot. Guy on the desk was so friendly and helpful I didn’t have the heart to complain again.

Anniversary weekend , first impressions, very nice , bar terrace was lovely . Check in all good , prompt and friendly , room was very nice a bit dated maybe but the bathroom and bed comfort was really good
The tv you can stream channels from your phone great feature and also the sensor light in the bathroom saves putting the main light on waking everyone up!
Had a meal on the first night was very nice no complaints . Breakfast was lovely no complaints. All in all a very nice two nights , also used the spa that was lovely , definitely worth a visit when you stay all in all a very nice stay , a bit pricey £410 for two nights , maybe that’s what you pay now .

Unfortunately the rooms were very dated, signs of mould and cracks around windows and the furniture and bed needed replacing. The room which was a superior room needed refurbishing. and did not reflect the price paid.
The situation was lovely as were the views.

Absolutely amazing hotel! Superb staff, top rate service and the food was divine. Plus an onsite Spa to relax in after many walks in the surrounding area. From check in to check out we were made to feel special and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely spacious room, comfortable bed and good bathroom. Nice view too across the gardens. The main restaurant evening meals were exquisite, service absolutely perfect with sunset views towards Haytor Rocks. The Blue Tiger Inn evening meals were great too, sitting on the terrace! And the included breakfast on our B&B booking was equally fabulous, setting us up for those walks up to Haytor, Burrator Reservoir and Becky Falls. Ample parking. Special mention to Tom, impeccable service and David on the front desk for being so approachable and helpful. Also Mike and Holly for their service too. Nice to chat to James also, not realising who he was. All so good we extended our stay by 1 night as there was availability, that speaks volumes in itself! Thank you all at Ilsington Hotel & Spa for helping us make memories for our wedding anniversary stay. M&J Ps in room homemade flapjacks are amazing!

My friend and I met at The Ilsington Hotel for a catch up and spa plus dinner and overnight stay! I had no expectations about the hotel in advance but I must say we absolutely fell in love with this delightful family run , wonderful friendly atmosphere. The three course dinner was the most delicious fine dining I had enjoyed for years, it was so tasty. The spa and massage were fantastic. You could relax in the gardens with a coffee or lunch and it felt like an escape from the real world. We also walked to Haytor nearby and enjoyed the fabulous beautiful Dartmoor views. There are many places to visit nearby. We will definitely return. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Ilsington Country House hotel

This short stay was our first time to this area of England which was a beautiful area. Although we have friends in Dawlish, we had never been to the Newton Abbot Area. This hotel was the the ideal size for me, not too big with pleasant friendly staff.Our room was well appointed and the only addition I would lik e was to add a heated towel rail in the bathroom. The Staff explained that the rails were part of the central heating system and to heat mine would mean that the whole hotel was heated. I agrreed with this but feel sure there is a way around this. I have heated rails at home which are on the seperate hot water
system, other people have electrically powered rails.
This would mean that wet towels would be easily dried in time for the next use and the bathroom would be warm
We had a very short stay to attend a wedding in the area, and would very much like to have a few more more days to explore the area, so hopefully we will be back .

The establishment is very well run by a team of friendly, kind, helpful and caring staff. The spa is a place you can easily spend a couple of hours relaxing and using the first class facilities. We had a pre-dinner drink in the lounge mulling over the menu before being shown into the dining room for a very lovely meal.
We would certainly recommend it and hope to return in the future.

Very enjoyable 3 day break at this lovely spa hotel in the shadow of Dartmoor. Spa facilities were excellent and not too busy whem we went. Croquet lawn out front and tennis courts in the village. 10 mins to Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracy if you want to eat out.

Nice hotel but small country road to get to. Spa swimming pool was very nice. Room comfortable. Negatives are wifi too slow to watch Netflix etc, needs black out blinds in rooms as woken early due to brightness through curtains, also had a really posh shower enclosure but the water pressure was not good.
Overall a nice pleasant stay but the small negatives did spoil the overall stay.

A great trip away, the staff were attentive and helped us to unwind and relax with suggestions of local things to do and see. The food in the restaurant was very good and a good selection of local drinks. Everything was clean and tidy, the only negative was that the wall between our room and the next was very thin. They decided to get up at 6am, had the TV on loud and then slammed their way out at 8am and we knew all about it but that was solved by a post breakfast snooze.

Perfect country side retreat!

One night break in the country house was just what we needed to explore the area. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the place and nice touches: good quality organic decaffeinated coffee in the room, home made flapjacks. The spa area and facilities (sauna, steam room, swimming pool and jacuzzi with 4 different massages) were perfect (I haven't tried their gym equipment) . We will definitely use this place for a short retreat again.

Lovely location in the national park, only a short drive to Torquay and Exeter. Plenty of parking.
Room was okay (due for refurbishment by the look of the bathroom especially, but very clean); however, the bed was not made properly and the mattress was not the best. Manager picked up our initial review and came to see us straight away which was good. We weren't after any freebies but were pleased to be offered another room... until he said it would cost us extra! Cheeky, to say the least. As we were only staying 2 nights, we didn't make a fuss but will not be returning or recommending to friends.
Had dinner in the restaurant on first night and it was excellent. Both breakfasts were also very good quality. Shame that the view from the restaurant is spoilt by an ugly outbuilding (must be a way to disguise it!).
Leisure facilities (only used pool, jacuzzi,
sauna and steam room) were excellent (new?) although the chap who came to kick us out at closing time needs to work on his people skills.
Didn't use the bar or gardens.

Arrival:
Arriving at the property, before you had even walked in to the hotel - it was absolutely beautiful, the view, the facilities, everything. Then once inside it has a great mix of classic hotel style mixed with homely feel to give you comfort in style. The service at reception was fast and friendly and informative.

Staff:
The staff were absolutely fantastic, polite friendly and you were able to have a giggle with them! They even promised to tell me 10 minutes before the bar closed in the evening so that I could order one last drink (that it turns out my hangover did not need!).

Spa:
The spa facilities were beautiful, the room was calm and serene, the steam room being my favourite part, only two years old, works amazingly and has beautiful music and lights in it so you could almost fall asleep in there (if that was the most dangerous thing ever!) The hydrotherapy pool had to be the second best part, it was fantastic.

The Food:
We dined at the Blue Tiger Inn and I wasn't disappointed, everything from the sandwiches to the chips to the curry I had was lovely. And the breakfast the next morning which was added in to the room rate was divine!

Overall:
I would definitely go back to this hotel in the future as it felt like a home away from home where you can unwind completely and forget about your worries!

One night stay after boat trip. Service was excellent as nothing was too much, food was amazing and much of it local and prepared on the premises. Rooms and hotel clean and comfortable. Had a nice relax in the spa the next morning and my partner had a wonderful treatment. If we’re in the area we’ll certainly return.

Staff friendly food excellent clean rooms and good spa - downsode heating on regulator therefore room cold window in bathroom permanently open as it was broken so cold bathroom - room disapointing smallish window one end so no good view when sitting and not welcolming sitting area - bedroom area dark so had to have lights on all the time - lights failed one morning so was in the dark completley. Hot water took 5mins to run hot and evenings when heating not working no hot water at all - complained several times - portable heater was brought to our room - water issue never resolved and was told heating was governed by temperature and set at about 18 degrees. Too cold when you are elderly and come in wet and cold. Dissapointed due to these issues - did not consider room worth the money as we asked to be upgraded before stay and paid extra £140 to hotel for 4 night stay as we found out room allocated from Expedia booking was a room that dogs can stay in. Summing up - staff, food spa and gardens ecellent - room, heating hot water and jammed window and ambiance of room poor. Not worth what we paid considering the extra £140 added to the money paid to expedia. Sadly we would not stay here again.

Hotel overall is quiet, peaceful and comfortable. The spa was really nice - kept clean and tidy. It was lovely and warm too and it thoroughly relaxed me. The only down side was lack of spa loungers to relax by the pool but it is a small spa.
It’s not a hotel for anyone looking for loads of entertainment and nightlife but we had a lovely meal in the Blue Tiger and spent the eve playing board games by the fire (we’re in our 40’s) which suited us after a late night out the day before!
The staff were really good - it’s a small team and they all work hard, you can tell. Everyone was friendly and nothing was too much trouble.

From the time we checked in we were made to feel welcome by the staff and that nothing was too much trouble. The public rooms were comfortable, with a good view to Hay Tor (when it wasn't shrouded in mist) from the spacious dining room. We ate well, mostly in The Blue Tiger bar area, which was good value and offered plenty of choice. Our bedroom was well appointed, and warm, with a comfortable bed and good en suite bathroom. The grounds looked attractive and well kept , and we would rate the Spa area and Pool highly. This was a real bonus in a period of wet weather! The hotel is well placed for expeditions to the South Hams, and up on to Dartmoor, and is set in good walking country. We would revisit it.

Two night break for rest and relaxation.

Stayed at this wonderful place previously, the staff are always welcoming and warm towards us. The accommodation is perfect for our needs, clean, comfortable with tea and coffee making facilities, and to die for flap jacks left every day in a sealed airtight jar!
The food at breakfast is plentiful and of excellent quality, I chose both the full English on the first morning and kippers on the second having tucked in to cereal, croissants, fruit and yogurt whist my cooked order was taken. The SPA facilities were included with our stay and there was enough time to enjoy the sauna, steam room, hydro and swimming pools. My only regret was not booking longer ......but theirs always next time!!

Room was great, huge clean bed and nice little table and chairs. Plenty space for storage of clothes. New bathroom with powerful shower and good size bath.
Yummy dinner in the evening with 2 restaurant options. Nice piano music playing throughout and lovely views to accompany this.
Breakfast had a good range of cereals, toast and juices and then a hot cooked breakfast option too for a little extra cost.
Super spa - calming pool and fun hydrotherapy pool. Great steam room and sauna. All quite small but never busy when we stayed so nice intimate feel to the whole place. I had an excellent relaxation back, shoulder and neck massage with a facial too. Nice robes too to wear whilst in the spa and around the hotel.

Lovely and relaxing anniversary stay

We had a lovely stay for our 16th wedding anniversary. The location is stunning, the service was excellent and the food was great. The spa at Islington is one of the best we have used at a hotel. It is modern, clean and big so that you don’t feel cramped and can enjoy a relaxing atmosphere. Most significantly, the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly from the front desk to the bar to the waiting staff. We ate both nights in the Blue Tiger and the food was excellent. As vegetarians, we used the Blue Tiger instead of the formal dining room as the food option was similar but better priced. The smoked options are wonderful. Breakfast was lovely with homemade compote.

Wonderful friendly staff and nice hotel.

Staff and service was amazing. They were very accommodating, friendly and helpful. The spa looked really nice, but didn't get a chance to visit. Breakfast was great! Rooms were nice, but needed a little bit of maintenance in the bathroom.

Lovely comfortable hotel with a fabulous spa

The lovely village of Ilsington has a nice village pub to walk to and Dartmoor with Haytor two minutes up the road. We enjoyed a daily walk up to the rock followed by a swim and hot tub. Widdecombe in the Moor is five minutes drive with a lovely pub ( the Rugglestone)
The hotel is a lovely country house - a little old fashioned but clean and the staff very friendly. The breakfast was delicious - fresh eggs from their own Chickens and homemade jams and lemon curd.

Fantastic hotel to stay at

One of the best hotels i have stayed at! Everything was great. They have one of the best spa rooms i have seen at any hotel. All staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside is that there was not enough choice of food on the menu. Even breakfast was pretty standard and i thought thwy could have offered more. However thats a minor detail as there was something for everyone on the menus allbeit limited. But will defo stay here again
