Room was big as we booked a Premier Room with 2 Queen Beds. Floor was carpeted. Bathroom was very clean but the sink was outside the bathroom which we did not like. Beds were very hard and uncomfortable that my wife ended up with a back pain. Pillows were old and lumpy. There was a small stain in a comforter which we mentioned this to the concierge lady. She apologized and immediately asked the housekeeping to change all the bed linen.
You only get 2 small water bottles on the 1st day.
Walls were not soundproofed well. Property was outdated like most of the properties around the area but well managed. Public transportations were 5-10 minutes walking distance. There were a lots of restaurants around. Area was not bad. We did not feel unsafe. Staff was nice. We did not use the swimming pool or parking.
Good for a short stay.

Absolutely love this hotel! It was my 3rd visit and the only place I’ll stay when visiting SF. Feels very safe which is always my number one concern. Everything is clean and staff is excellent. It is at the perfect location, walking distance to tons of bars, restaurants and stores. Can’t wait to be back. Thanks for the terrific hospitality !

It’s an older hotel but the room was big and comfortable. No problems at all. Staff were friendly and the front desk always said “welcome back” or “welcome home”. The only drawback to this property was the lack of an onsite restaurant or some type of coffee service in the AM. We were up early for a conference and the fact that we needed to go around the corner every morning was kind of a drag. They have an old restaurant on site but it is not functioning. They let me back in there to use the microwave one night. I would stay here again because it was reasonably priced and again comfortable with very friendly staff. If they can manage that restaurant in that space again it will be a great value for the money in that city.

Parking is $70+ a day at the hotel. It was easier to park slightly down and across the street for a max of about $45 a day. There was no microwave in the room to warm food that had gotten cold but the security at the front door whose name I believe is Darold was great and took us to warm it in the connected restaurant. It served its purpose.

The room was dated. The carpets were stained, so was the bathroom door frame. The hallways were dark and dim. The front lobby area was nice, light and looked nice. I thought the parking fee they charge their guests was absurd. I won’t ever be coming back I’m sorry to say.

The staff were pretty nice and friendly. The check-in and check-out processes were fast and efficient. The hotel is nice, a bit dated with some remodeling done. But it’s definitely not modern or new. It’s in a good neighborhood and close to a lot of tourist spots. I’m at close to the Moscone so that was what made me stay here.

good location, very quiet room, comfortable bed. Pleasant enough staff. Enough staff 24 hours to feel safe. The neighbourhood felt safe. No breakfast onsite. Fridge in my room didnt work and the engineer staff were not available. The front desk person did offer me to use the fridge in the reception.

i didnt use the pool but i did see someone else using it and i could see the heat coming off it!

Quite a few empty or buildings in the area made it feel less busy than i was expecting. Union square is a community space with different events happening in the weekend or evenings.

The hotel is located in a perfect area. Lots of restaurants within walking distance. The trolley and Bart station are also close by. The staff was friendly. Room was clean. There’s a mini fridge in the room. No microwave. Bathroom has all the amenities you might need. Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. Overall great experience. Will definitely be back.

The hotel was a historic building with lots of charm. Very friendly attentive service upon walking in made check in a breeze. Room was clean, comfy but a little loud being not on the 2nd floor and facing a busy street. Toilet paper took a few minutes to find but otherwise the room was great. The sheets were soft and the bed comfy. While we didn’t go in the pool, we walked out to check it out and it looked very beautiful and clean. Great location and would happily choose to stay there again.

I wouldn’t stay here again although it was ok for our trip. We were in the old part of the hotel, it was very old, but still clean. The hall was very dark. Rooms were small but clean. The gym and pool were pretty nice. The area wasn’t what we expected, Union Square was dirtier and my young kids were scared when we saw a few homeless people near our hotel. I would stay in a different part of town with children next time.

Everything was wonderful! We stayed 6 nights. We had a room with 2 queen beds in the premier (newer) side. It had a balcony over looking the pool (open 8am-8pm, heated).
Our beds were comfy, pillows were great and towels were fluffy. Plenty of hot water for shower every time. Large room. Lots of tv channels. Mini-fridge and a coffee maker (that we didn’t use, due to all of the great coffee places nearby). Housekeeping was spot-on with fresh towels every day.
We checked in too early, so we left our bags with the very polite & helpful concierge in a locked closet until we returned.
The room was quiet and we slept well each night. ALL staff was wonderful!
Excellent location….half-block to tram, trolly and bus. Food/restaurants all around. Easy UBER pick-up/drop-off. We felt safe day & night.
We will definitely return next time we are in town!

Pool is cute and sauna is nice, although you have to schedule a time to use the sauna, so plan ahead. Also, it’s not so easy to find so also plan in some extra time to wander around and find sauna before scheduled time. The room was nice however it was very noisy from both hallway traffic and road traffic….I think the walls are pretty thin.

Nothing special, staff didn’t go out of their way to say hello or make me feel comfortable or welcome. No breakfast, just lemon water in lobby, very basic.

There was nothing about the experience that would bring me back to book this hotel a second time. It got the job don’t for one night, before going to the airport at the end of my travels.

Older hotel but nicely redone. We got a king room with city view and room was very large. The mattress must’ve been pretty new cause it was very comfortable and I never gave it a thought. The staff was all very nice and you feel like you’re friends with them immediately. Would stay here again for sure.

A very quiet stay. Front desk and housekeeping staff friendly and helpful. A great location from Powell Street Station. They provide discounts at some local restaurants - Al Pastor Papi (excellent!), Magnin Street Cafe and Bistro (popular! nice vibe, good service), and others. Difficult to regular room temperature. Gym small and mostly filled with ellipticals and treadmills but I was able to do my routine along with hill walking.

I don't recall what this hotel was rated when I booked it but, its definitely basic. The location is good, as stated in other reviews. There are two separate towers, ehich was a little confusing, and you had to carry your luggage up stairs if you are in the back tower. Also, the in room furniture, and carpets, had stains. Im not sure how chairs get so stained, but either clean.them or replace them.

upon check-in, I was told that because I brought my dog with me, I had to leave a $250 deposit plus pay an additional $25 per night for the dog. They say dog friendly, but that doesn’t always mean the dog doesn’t cost anything extra just as a heads up for people.
Also, after I checked in, we were given our room key and went to our room, which was a wonderfully appointed small room with two beds. Nothing wrong with it at all.
However, as soon as we checked in, and we were putting our things down, we got a knock at the door, and it was security, which kind of threw us back a little bit. The security officer said that he was told that the front desk had spoken to us about a form that needed to be signed regarding the Dog staying in the room and I was aware of that because they had just called and spoken with me. This was flat out, not true as I had just checked in at the front desk and was never informed of such a form, nor had anybody called me to tell me about this form, so that was a little unsettling, having security knocking on your door. Once that was taken care of everything else went well.
Of note, they had the entire pool area closed off, so that is not usable at this time which was mid March 2026.
Other than that, we slept well, beds were comfortable got up the next morning check out with smooth and easy.
Hotel is very close to union Square and local attractions, stores, restaurants, convenience, stores, etc.

I had a great stay at the Handlery Hotel! The staff were very friendly and always available to help, which made a big difference. I really appreciated the regular housekeeping, it kept everything clean and comfortable throughout my stay.

One small downside was that I couldn’t use the pool because it was under maintenance, and my room didn’t have a microwave. However, the staff were very accommodating whenever I needed assistance, which made up for it.

I also liked that there was a water dispenser on each floor, so I didn’t have to buy water during my stay. The location was perfect very close to the Union Square conference center, which was incredibly convenient for me.

Overall, it was an affordable stay (under $500 for 4 days), and I truly enjoyed my experience. I would definitely consider staying here again!

This hotel is central to everywhere we want to go in SF! Plus, we feel safe in this neighbourhood. We love the atmosphere at Union Square, and BART is close by for our trips out to the suburbs. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Our room was nice and clean, and our room requests were met 100%. We have stayed at the Handlery many times over the years, and will stay here again!
