Only stayed for one night as we were travelling around the island. It was exactly as described and as I expected. Convenient location to the airport, blue bay and Mahebourg. Ideally you would need a car to get out of the resort and explore. Hotel has everything you need though. Big shopping centre 5 min drive away.

Lovely small boutique Hotel on the beach

Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is stunning. The all inclusive option is the best option as restaurant options outside the hotel are minimal unless you have a car or use taxis. The food options are limited for evening meals but the food was very good. The lunchtime selection for all inclusive is limited unless you wanted to pay extra for a burger or a pizza which cost less than some of the other options. The hotel is very close to the airport and buses stop outside to go to maihberg or Blue bay.

We had a great stay at Astroea Beach hotel! The room was a little tired and could do with a refresh but it was a nice base to have. The staff were all lovely and the food was nice. The beach is small but beautiful and not too busy, we never had any issues finding a sun lounger. Snorkelling was great, lots of different coral and fishes to see! We stayed all inclusive which was perfect for us. The hotel was in easy reach of Mahébourg and Blue Bay. I’d happily stay here again.

The property is located right along the beach, but the dining options are limited (I suppose due to its smaller size). We enjoyed staying there with the kids. The WiFi only works when you are either outside or near the reception so that needs to be addressed as in the rooms there is barely any coverage.

Small, secluded boutique hotel with a private beach and a fantastic restaurant & bar. Staff was wonderful and went out of their way to ensure we had everything that we needed. Located close to the airport, Blue Bay, and Mahebourge; but not super walkable, but close enough to local establishments, while still enjoying a bit of seclusion. Water sports and activities available through the hotel.

The location of our bungalow was good. The views out to sea beautiful. Unfortunately the bad weather did not permit us to make use of the beach and sea.
A couple of things that can be improved in property 202 are a) easier way to get warm water temp in the shower. b) broken bin lid c) loose toilet seat.

Service in the restaurant a bit hit and miss. If they know who are staying in their hotels and having meals then they could have their table ready especially as not many customers.

Orders taken weren’t what was served for example, asked for 1 soft boiled egg with two toasts received 2 hard boiled eggs and 1 toast! Another eg asked for natural yogurt and fruit separately then was given a fruit yogurt. Either they didn’t understand or wrote it down wrong.
The lamb salmi left my mouth burning it was so spicy hot that I could not eat my meal, I was offered yogurt. I think if you’re cooking for the tourist you need to bear in mind to not make it too spicy.
Lastly we think the staff quarters may have been behind our bungalow as early morning chatter and laughter was quite loud. Some of us on holiday may want a lie in especially when the weather is not so good and in no rush to wake up.
Overall I would stay there again. Although I do think staff will benefit from giving the customers a little more attention and less chatting between themselves.

Close to airport, spacious room, sea views, dining area.

Improvements required:
Service staff seemed unhappy (did they like hospitality work, need training or unhappy workplace culture?) and felt at times that we were a hindrance (the service staff unfriendly, unhelpful and felt like service was a chore). A few staff were obviously unwell (coughing and sneezing a lot) whilst working. We were also left waiting, not knowing if we would be served. When we asked a question about an order, we were not given advice but expected to know the answer. The Manager did introduce himself on the first day, helping with our bags.
As we only stayed one night, we decided to eat at the hotel which was a big mistake. As noted by other reviewers the meal is overpriced and very average. My partner, a vegetarian, had a small cup of pumpkin soup, lightly coated fettuccine (no vegetables) and two small balls of ice-cream for 1450 Mauritian rupee (approx $50 AUD). Having stayed in stayed in Blue Bay previously, we recommend food at the Blue Bamboo around 8 minutes walk from the Hotel, with a great atmosphere and service and delicious meals or alternatively, if your up for a drive, suggest Le Bazilic in nearby Mahebourg, one of our best meals in Mauritius!
The hotel was self was older and perhaps needed some updates however could overlook this if we had a welcoming and friendly service experience, which we had at several other holiday locations in Mauritius and Reunion Island.

Not great, cockroaches, cooked breakfast charge.

A disappointing stay overall. Check in was fine and the location is good. Found out at check in that while our booked rate included breakfast, this was only the continental and we'd have to pay to upgrade to full breakfast - which felt cheeky.

The room was underwhelming. The pictures make the rooms look better than they feel in real life. As others have said they need refurbishment.

Beach is very pleasant but guests from another hotel are bussed in, so it is less private than it could be. Erosion has taken effect so it no longer looks like in the pictures.

We had a large cockroach issue (quantity and size) in the bathroom (which my partner is very scared of). After killing a couple we eventually went to reception and were initially given a bottle of bug spray. I pushed for them to assist, which they did. When spraying down the shower drain 5 or 6 came scuttling out causing the staff to panic and run out for more tools. At this point we decided to move hotels.

I explained to the reception that we would happily pay for the two nights we had effectively used (including the night we left on), but not the next two nights. They said this would be fine but we'd need to contact expedia/hotels.com who we booked with. The hotel then did not provide the confirmation required to enable this to happen, emails went unanswered. Very poor.

Other Mauritian hotels don't have cockroaches, so go elsewhere if you care about this.

True Mauritian hospitality

Astroea beach hotel is a cosy hotel managed by people who really care. They represent beautifully the legendary hospitality of Mauritian people: from the manager to the receptionist, the waiters, the chef and other people of their staff. They went above and beyond to help accommodating me throughout multiple plane cancelations due to cyclones and made me feel safe. I’ll never forget that. Food is delicious, beach is unbelievable and the whole setting really induces calm and relaxation. I chose this place for its proximity to the airport and for the fact that I wanted a comfortable way to end my trip. Mille mercis pour tout!!

Nice and quiet

The hotel is ideally located on a quiet area of tge island therefore the coral reef is in much better condition than other areas. The beach has sadly eroded. The hotel is cute and small and can be elevated to 4 stars if they give some attention to detail. So much potential. The Blue Bamboo eatery down the road is an excellent local restaurant serving delicious dishes.

Small scale, friendly hotel. Rooms are to be expected from a more budget level hotel, meaning they're fine. The beach in front of the hotel is not as wide as you expect from the photo and it was pretty windy when we were there so I wouldn't say this is a place for a 2 week beach holiday. But - Blue Bay is walkable (long walk) or 5 mins in car + more wild Point d'Esney beach is closer.

We only had 2 nights half board; food was limited and just ok. Service was very good.

We were disappointed with the accommodation upon arrival. Our room was very dirty, black hairs all over the floor and bathroom, even shaving hair in the sink and stained bedding. We complained and they did a ‘deep clean’ of which all they did was change the bedding to different stained sheets and hairs were still everywhere. It’s a 3 star but there is no excuse for a dirty room. The staff were lovely but found out they are very understaffed and have to work long hours. The food was ok but you quickly got bored of the choices available. The setting and beach was very beautiful. We found out they had a sister hotel which was 4 star and they moved us a few days later which was much appreciated and a beautiful hotel.

I thought the property overall was excellent.
We were given a suite and this seemed very reasonable. The facilities are in good condition but the (British) electric shower unit was rubbish!
Like many of the reviews the dining was poor and overly expensive. There wasn't sufficient quantity and frankly was just too bland! The curry we had just seemed to lack any spices! Continental breakfast was reasonable though. A small but private beach with good views.

The rooms are not together, they are build like little houses which is very nice and you have your privacy. The room is nice and big. But they do need to do a renovation for the bad. I also felt that the bedsheet and pillow were not that clean, which made me feel uncomfortable to sleep in the bed. The staff is friendly and helpful. Its a little group so it feels like a family to be there. Sometimes i felt like they push me to eat and have drinks in the hotel restaurant which was annoying. The dinner was very tasty but the portions were sadly very little. All around it was a nice stay and i would recommend again. Thank you.

This property sits in a fantastic location, but it has taken its toll from being so close to the beach. The breakfast was great. The dinner was overpriced. Most guests are on an All-Inclusive plan. We were not. THe restaurant staff were great. The receptionist was rude.

After my complaints to management regarding the poor breakfast and fly problem, I’m glad to say this morning a superb breakfast was served and fly covers were bought to cover open displayed foods. Special mention to the Food and Beverage manager Sham and his team for rectifying the problem and serving us a delicious dinner, lunch and breakfast with a smile and efficiency. The problem with the basin plug was also seen to and repaired. I can recommend this hotel to the person who enjoys a peaceful time way from the crowds where you can relax and enjoy the natural surroundings, ocean and personal service. Note that there is no swimming pool although ocean swimming here is superb.

The location is great as the hotel is next to the ocean. Lovely bay to swim. Unfortunately the breakfast was disastrous, no cut fresh fruit, old bananas, few yogurts, not freshly squeezed juice but concentrate mixed with water. No cutlery and no one to take order for cooked breakfast. Flies everywhere, sitting on the food, which management says they cannot control. Worst breakfast I’ve ever been offered at any hotel! This hotel is rated as a four star on Hotels.com but management say it does not have a four star rating.... can Hotels.com please correct this? Basin in bathroom does not have hot water and plug leaks so difficult for a man to have a decent morning shave.

This hotel is overrated and overpriced. Positives are friendly and helpful staff, great beach. Room was extremely disappointing, desperately in need of a makeover. Only cold water at basin in bathroom, shower has no taps but some kind of \"switch\" to turn water on. It is almost impossible to set water temperature so its either too hot or too cold. No wifi in room connection, although room is advertised with free wifi.

Setting and beach is nice, comfort bad!

I love the private setting and beautiful beach of this hotel, but that is where it stops. WiFi was almost non-existent. Everyday was a struggle and often, the WiFi was inaccessible in the room and even in the hotel reception/lobby(it seems they shut down their server entirely for certain period of time). That was most frustrating and we had no resolution to this problem throughout the 2-weeks stay. The bed was extremely uncomfortable: Mattress was terrible, you could feel the wires under your back and cover blanket was and old and thin cotton coverlet. No duvet (comforter) is available. Staff was OK, not that friendly. Food is average (better food quality and price can be found at local restaurant in town). Apart from water sports, time at hotel is very boring, they could do with some scheduled on-site entertainment. Best part of it is the beach with mile-long lagoon and coral reef right at your feet. If you only need a nice beach and a secluded setting and no bedding comfort or WiFi, this hotel is for you.

Exellent service.I stayed on half board and disappointed that deserts were baby size and at least one drink was not included in dinner.Would have prefered buffet.
Rooms were not always cleaned properly.I had dead bugs on the floor for 2 days, hair in the shower also for couple of days and sand on the bed.

Hotel on the Beach

Astroea is directly on the Beach, its a nice small quiet hotel - no loud music. Its related to the Preskil Hotel 2km along the coast road which is bigger and busier with pools and music (you can get day entry tickets) - I went there a couple of times to the Scuba Diving Centre (Diving inside the reef is in about 6m and fairly tame, outside the reef the sea was pretty rough while I was there). The snorkling in front of the hotel is pretty good. The staff at the Astroea go out of there way to be helpful, they arranged early access to our room which was much appreciated. We took the half board option and must say the food was varied and of good quality - there were two options for each course of the evening meal.

Very Disappointing Hotel.

Only 20 minutes from the airport, we chose to stay 1 night before an early flight back to the UK.
The welcome was fine and we were upgraded to a small bungalow with 2 bedrooms which we didn't need.It was adequate for our purpose but I wouldn't have wanted to stay more than 1 night. The evening meal is 3 courses and has to be pre-ordered, which we did at check in. Choosing from a very random 2 starters, 2 main courses, and 2 deserts. It too was very disappointing.
All the other customers seemed to be on package deals - mainly all inclusive.
As independent travellers we paid £140 room only plus almost a further £100 for the meal plus 2 small cocktails, 1 beer and 1 tonic water. Astronomical for what we received.
The unfortunate smell which permeated the whole area was a massive problem for guests and staff alike. We were told it was caused by the coral spawning. It can last for weeks but only happens every second or third year. When the tide is out it is very severe and extremely unpleasant.
All in all, not a good experience.

Pleasant but too short Mauritius interlude

This was a most pleasant and too short stay over in Mauritius. The bungalow was excellent even with the furniture a little dated. I slept very well, very quiet place. Staff were most friendly. There was an excellent b'fast. The restaurant I cannot really judge as I ate only one meal there. However, this was average with a tasty beef stew but very dry tasteless pasta. The hotel is small but anywhere is only yards from a private beach with safe and calm waters. You can take your b'fast overlooking the deep blue sea, wonderful. Location is ideal, not far from Mahebourg or the airport but far enough not to be bothered by either. Wifi in my room and the hotel grounds worked well most of the time. Would definitely stay again if the opportunity arose.

Good small hotel on the beach

Nice hotel, good location only 15 minutes walk to Blue Bay - this can be walked along the road or along the beach. Although the beach at the hotel is small, you can walk for several km along the beach in either direction (as all beach in Mauritius is public), just requires a mix of walking on sand, in the sea, and scrambling over rocks!
Free kayaks a big bonus. Staff are excellent and very friendly.
Meals overly expensive - better to walk to nearby restaurants to eat at about 1/3 of the price, of which there are two or three within 15 mins.
Wifi is free but was non-existent for about half of my stay.
There is parking and a car would be useful if you want to explore more than the immediate surrounds.
Easterly prevailing winds in winter can mean beach is rather cold and there is not much to do nearby.

I stayed at Astroea Beach Hotel just before Christmas 2015. I was a bit nervous as I was a solo traveller. However, there was no need for me to be concerned. The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. They are all willing to make your stay what you want. The food is very good and lots of choice.
My only complaint is that the rooms aren't up to a good standard but you don't spend a huge amount of your time in the room when you have such amazing views on the beach!

Handy for one night to and from airport and v nice staff. Any longer you are very limited as tiny beach with shallow corally sea so barely swimmable . Set up let down by the chef! Food very limited and unimaginative . Buffet breakfast choice poor compared to other hotels even small ones and dinner boring choices of two first /main/puddings, which you had to order at breakfast, not knowing what you might feel like by the evening! If you didn't like either they would find something else but if you asked for fish it was dry and nameless etc etc. for the price one was paying to stay it was not good value and food also luke warm. 3 nights of it were more than enough.

Gorgeous beach hotel with reef - great snorkeling

Loved it! Beautiful 16 room hotel on a gorgeous beach. I stayed three night by myself but quickly made friend at this small hotel. They upgraded me to a comfort ocean view room and let me do a late check-out. Rooms are very nice, staff is very friendly and helpful.The beach is small as it is in a neighborhood of private homes, so if you like long beach walks this is not for you. A gorgeous reef is a 1 min swim from the beach and they provide free snorkel gear and kayaks, so I was constantly snorkeling and kayaking which totally compensated me for the lack of beach walking. Food was very good, drinks very reasonably priced (beer $3/$6 cocktails). You have access to the nearby much larger Preskil hotel but I had no desire to leave my little Astroea haven. Town is also just a few minutes tax drive, and the airport is 15 min drive. I will definitely return to Astroea hotel.

Lugnt och skönt!

Läget är fantastiskt! Hit ska du åka om du vill ha lugn och ro och bara sola eller sitta och läsa vid vattnet.

Vi hade all inclusive. Det är skönt för det finns inga andra restauranger i närheten.

Det är en all inclusive ala carte. Du beställer det du vill ha från ett fåtal rätter på menyn. Frukosten är inte mycket att hurra för. På kvällen är det en meny med två olika uppsättningar förrätt, varmrätt och dessert att välja bland. Först var maten supergod men sen bytte de kock och det blev lite sämre. Så svårt att säga något om maten egentligen.

Trevlig och gullig personal.

Vattnet är jättefint, bra för snorkling!

Miellyttävä pieni hotelli, loistava ranta. Osa henkilökunnasta hoitaa hommansa loistavasti, toiset sitten taas vähemmän loistavasti. Lyhyt matja lentokentälle. Ruoka pääoson hyvää, vaihtoehtoja olisi voinut olla enemmän.

Hôtel très calme pied dans l’eau on y mange très bien, Sham et toute son équipe sont d’une gentillesse et bienveillance irréprochable toujours à l’écoute quand on a besoin d’un service
Pas besoin d’aller à blue bay pour nager dans le corail avec les poissons nous avons ça devant l’hôtel. Merci à vous tous pour ces 15 jours magnifique en votre compagnie

Das Hotel ist wunderschön direkt am Strand gelegen! Das Personal ist wirklich bemüht, dass war es dann leider scho. An positiven Punkten! Die Zimmer sind einfach heruntergekommen! Das Bad geht gar nicht, dreckig und warmes Wasser kann man nur sehr schwer einstellen - entweder man verbrüht sich oder es ist eiskalt! Das Frühstück war ok!

The room is large but dated. There was a hole in the ceiling, the light switch was hanging out of the wall and there were stains on the furniture and towels.
The bathroom smelled mouldy.
The breakfast was simple and not of very good quality

The staff were very friendly. The location of the hotel is fantastic.

Es ist ein kleines offenes Hotel ohne grossen Komfort, das Bad und Möbel sind sehr alt. es liegt direkt am kleinen Strand. Region unbedeutend.

sehr alt & abgenutzt. matrazen eher hart. die beach bungalos sind zum teil gegen hinten versetzt. also man sieht noch knapp das meer. personal aber freundlich. das riff direkt vor dem hotel ist de jedoch der hammer. für das lohnt es sich.

Tres belle hôtel mais loin de tout et pas de navette gratuite, il manque une piscine pour profiter vraiment un maximum car l'eau de mer pas toujours propre (algues).
Sinon le personnel de l'hôtel est tres gentil et a l'écoute.

Si vous avez une autre possibilité, n'y allez pas.

Nous sommes allés au mois de septembre.
Accueil sympathique.
Nous avions pris une chambre pour trois personnes. Chambres spacieuses et propres, lits confortables. Mais aucuns décors. Chambres tristes.
Accès internet fonctionne très bien.
L’hôtel donne directement sur la plage. Mais notre chambre était assez loin de la plage et donnait sur la route principale bordant l’hôtel. Premier problème, il est dit que nous avions droit à des linges et bien non. Il n'y en avait pas assez et l'hôtel n'est franchement pas très grand. La nourriture et bonne mais pas de très grand choix avec la formule demi-pension.

Une bonne halte

Sympathique structure bien située au bord d'une petite plage de sable. Propreté des chambres bonne, salle d'eau un peu ancienne mais propre, jardin bien entretenu. Gentillesse du personnel.
Manesha et Antony sont particulièrement aimables, et très efficaces dans le service du restaurant ainsi que la jeune femme responsable de l'entretien de la chambre 103.
Le petit déjeuner est bon et copieux.

Terrible experience

Dinner is just one small dish and one small appetizer, room very noisy and not so clean, forniture for the beach is broken and not enough for the guests. Breakfast is very poor. Employs are very rude and arrogant, receptionist the worst. The sea is marvelous but just it.

L’hotel a accepté notre réservation de dernière minute (vol annulé) pour une chambre pour 3 adultes à 235€. A notre arrivée a minuit l’hotel nous a envoyé dans un autre hotel. Ce dernier ne voulait pas nous loger dans une seule chambre. Apres négociation nous avons obtenu une chambre a 1h du matin!

Situation géographique excellent . Le personnel de l’hôtel et de la restauration sont très professionnels et surtout très sympathiques.
Séjour de 15 jours tres agréable dans un hôtel à la fois tres professionnel et familiale.
Merci à tous nous avons passé un agréable séjour. Nous y reviendrons sans aucune hésitation.

O hotel é bonito e bem localizado, mas esperávamos mais dos quartos. A cama é muito ruim, o banheiro também é bem ruim. Ficamos um pouco decepcionados. Porém, o café da manhã é ótimo!!

Die Zimmer sind abgewohnt und renovierungsbedürftig.Die Fliesen,sowie die Möbel wurden mit weißer Farbe angepinselt.Sauberkeit lässt zu wünschen übrig.Beim Frühstück gibt es kaum Auswahl.Die Lage ist wirklich traumhaft,tolle Bucht.Allerdings ist das nicht nur exclusiv den zahlenden Gästen des Astroea Beach vorbehalten,sondern es kommen auch Gäste vom Holiday Inn und den anderen Hotels.(diese sich dann auch mit lauter Musik und Rauchen im Restaurant negativ verhalten)Was aufgrund der überschaubaren Anzahl an Liegen sehr grenzwertig ist.
Ein weiterer Negativpunkt: es gab zeitweise keine frischen Handtücher.Die ersten 2 Tage keine Strandtücher und danach kaum frische Handtücher im Zimmer)
Zusammengefasst:das Hotel in dieser Lage hätte potential.Wir würden aber nicht nochmal wiederkommen

Jeg vil ikke anbefale hotellet

Vi var en uge på Astroea Beach Hotel. Hotellet er rigtigt pænt udefra, men vores værelse var meget slidt, lugtede grimt og rengøringen var ikke tilfredsstillende (fx var der indtørret tis og hår ned ad toiletkummen). Vi havde all inclusive og maden og drikkevarerne var rigtig gode, men desværre var ventetiden virkelig lang, og personalet fik os til at føle os til besvær, når vi bestilte mad og drikke. Flere af medarbejderne er dårlige til engelsk, de er ikke opsøgende (som fx at spørge om vi mangler noget) og der var ikke mange smil. Der var dog også få af medarbejderne, der var rigtig søde. Vi nød at snorkle ved det fantastiske koralrev, der ligger lige ude foran hotellet.

We had all included package. Food ranged from good to absolute boring (spaghetti with ketchup or fried rice with some pieces of chicken). And getting food took literally forever - super slow. Do not recommend all including package, eat dinner somewhere else. Breakfast and lunch was good. Location super nice. Very nice beach. We had a nice Also cottage with good cleaning service. Recommend the place but not having dinner there.

Hôtel agréable et simple, idéal quand on arrive de l'aéroport. Bien placé entre Mahebourg et Blue Bay. Les repas du soir sont très bons. Les autres n'ont pas été pris par nous. La plage est petite mais si vous aimez le snorkling, le lieu est parfait pour voir des poissons . Peu de fond, mais il sont nombreux dans le corail pratiquement en bord de plage. On entend un peu les avions, ce qui est normal au vu de sa situation. Je recommande cet hôtel pour débuter son séjour. Le personnel est sympathique.

Helt fantastiskt ställe vid vattnet. Man kunde snorkla direkt från stranden där det fanns rev och fina fiskar. Personalen var otroligt hjälpsamma och trevliga. Kan verkligen rekommendera detta ställe.
