The owner was incredibly friendly and helpful. When we first arrived, we had not had a chance to exchange money to Mauritian Rupees, and he took 1000Rs out of his wallet and loaned it to us in case we needed some before we got to an ATM. Breakfast was simple, but good. Place was just as pictured.

How to see Mauritius on a budget

Gill & Younoos, Were perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They made me feel almost like part of the family. Highly recommended at €24 B&B. I stayed a week and hired a car through the hotel at €30 per day to see the whole island.

I had a wonderful host very informative on the country's history. This allowed for a nice visit. The room basic with good AC. The breakfast is good coffee and fresh baked bread. Be warned he doesn't like credit cards so a stop at the ATM is required. I have to say the local area was not the best. Few restaurants open past six. I found a small local bar open until eight or so. I was told the local are not night people, but home bodies. It seem strange with the evenings nice are after a hot day.

Auberge de Saladier is a friendly, safe and comfortable guest house in downtown Mahebourg. The hosts Younoos and Jill were extremely friendly and helpful and a good source of information about Mauritius and the local area. It's a very relaxing environment to base yourself while spending a few days exploring Mahebourg

Great Mauritius hospitality

The owner is very attentive and friendly .
You would feel like home. Although is not a high class acoomodation but you could able to get 5 stars hospitality and services from the owner. They are very helpful to give important information and sharing experiences with the guests .

convenient location close to the bus terminal and the nice harbour. the city has a really good cultural feel to it with tasty street food at the harbour. the airport transfer was convenient but it was early and the hotel owner was grumpy and i had to wake him up! lucky i did not miss my flight. otherwise a good experience and for a good price.

This was not the best place I have stayed at, but in terms of value for money it was excellent. The owners are also extremely helpful, not only with items needed for your stay, but also non-hotel related items, like car rental.

great spot for a short stay.

As others have said, this small hotel is fantastic for a short layover. It is not fancy. But it is clean and pleasant in its simplicity, and most importantly the hosts will go out of their way to make your stay pleasant. We stayed for two nights while waiting for our onward flight, and enjoyed a car with driver for a tour of the island on our free day. Great place to stop, I wish we'd have had more time.

VERY,VERY CONVENIENTLY SITUATED NEAR THE AIRPORT IF ONE WANTS TO AVOID A LONG JOURNEY BEFORE FLYING HOME.
VERY PLEASANT STAFF NAMELY YOOUNIS AND THE MANAGER JILL, THEY GREET YOU AND MAKE YOU FEEL AT HOME. THE TAXI ARRANGED THRU JILL FOR 0515 WAS INFACT WAITING FOR US FROM 0450 , VERY IMPRESSIVE FOR TIMING.
THE ROOM WAS VERY CLEAN AND WITH EFFECTIVE AIRCONDITIONING.
THE ONLY DOWNSIDE WAS THE DAMPNESS SMELL , WHICH WON`T STOP ME FOR RECOMENDING THIS HOTEL.

Convenient to airport and cheap.

You get what you pay for and it is cheap, so don't expect much. It is very basic and in an area that is not very tourist oriented.

But if you want to see more of how the locals live instead of the glitzy hotels then Saladier is a great option.

The owners are very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to help.

When you're here, you are home

This is one of the best places I've stayed in 20 countries. If your looking for a 1000€ a night villa it isn't it. If your looking for an amazing local spot with staff that are so wonderful it is. The guy running the place was great. Genuinely happy to see you and helpful even when nothing was to gain. A great spot and I will stay there again. The day I left I was not sure when I would be back but he let me keep stuff there till 7 pm and come back to change and shower. Not typical of anywhere!

Incredibly Welcoming Hosts

I needed a place between connecting flights and had arranged to stay at this guest house because of its close proximity to the airport. I didn't know how wonderful the hosts of the hotel would be: Younoos and Jill are delightful people who really enjoy meeting and greeting their customers. They went out of their way to make arrangements for me to arrive a little early and stay a little late - and were helpful with lots of suggestions as to how I might spend my free time. They were available for very pleasant conversation in the evening and attentive to absolutely all details. By the time I left them, I felt like I was family! BTW: The room was spacious compared to European standards. My best recommendation is that I have already made reservations to return!

Great Host

Good value for money. The place & breakfast is very basic but what you would expect for the price. What the B&B lacks in quality and amenities is made up by the host's friendly and warm character. Younos (can't remember the spelling is a lovely person. He stayed up late to greet our late arrival, he exchanged our money at a favourable rate and organised a local lad to drive us around for the day. In short a basic, clean place to stay with great warm owner.

Warm welcome and great breakfast

This is a basic no-frills hotel, but more than makes up for its basic amenities with a warm welcome and better-than-average breakfast. We arrived with our 1-year-old baby and the friendly owner played with him while we ate breakfast, provided us with a complimentary crib, gave us a free room upgrade, and was quite helpful with travel arrangements. The hotel is located in the center of Mahebourg - not an idyllic beach resort but a good place to get a sense of everyday life in Mauritius and conveniently located close to the airport.

Close to the airport

We only stayed overnight, connecting from Australia to Madagascar so didn't see much of the area as it was dark when we arrived. Jill the owner was lovely, very helpful and interesting to chat to. The hotel is basic but very clean - it was being redecorated when we were there so lots of things were covered in dust sheets, but our room was fine! The room was large and had a TV and fridge in it, plus space for a table and chairs. The bathroom was small but clean and functional. I would recommend this hotel for an overnight stop that is very convenient as it is near the airport.

The breakfast is very basic, just bread and butter and a simple little fruitsalad. We found the place a bit noisy, people talking outside our room, and the noise from the the dining area next door. Also renovations going on. The Muezzin from the nearby mosque wakes most people up before six o clock. However the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners. makes up for shortfall.

Like staying with family

Excellent place, from immediately after booking until I left the entire experience was wonderful. Pickup was arranged from and back to the airport, any requests for assistance were answered far and beyond. Friendliest staff I have ever met. Would definitely stay again!

A little gem.We had a very warm reception and the hotel was welcoming with many personal touches.Jill and Yunus could not have been more helpful with guidance on where to get local provisions/restaurants.They also arranged airport pickup and onward transfer to Port Louis(chargeable).

Younis & Jill are the fantastic owners of this outstanding family Hotel. From the second you arrive these people could not possibly be more welcoming! This is not a large resort complex and as a result, you will become a part of the family for the length of the stay! The rooms are clean. Every morning you will enjoy a nice free breakfast to begin the day. Here you will truly feel the wonderful local culture.

A quiet place in paradise

The hotel was clean, and quite, and a good breakfast of fresh fruit, bread, and coffee was always very nice. The folks that run the hotel are extremely kind and helpful with everything you could imagine. I had a great and relaxing stay. If I return to Mauritius I will go here again.

Nous avons passé une semaine à l'auberge Le Saladier en couple avec nos 2 filles. Accueil exceptionnel de la part de Yoonos et Jill qui sont aux petits soins et toujours de bons conseils. Petit déjeuner servi chaque matin avec la bonne humeur de Yoonos. Sécurité de l'auberge est un ++. Chambre fonctionnelle pas de luxe ni d'ornements mais vous y trouverez la clim (en petit supplément) et la télé . Patio fleuri agréable. L'auberge est dans le centre ville de Mahébourg, gare routiere a 5 min a pied, restos snacks, toutes commodités a proximité. Merci pour tout à Yoonos et Jill, nous avons eu un vrai coup de cœur pour cette auberge et leurs hôtes. Nous espérons y retourner si nous avons l'occasion de séjourner à Maurice.

Ici rien à voir avec les grands complexes. Accès aisé à pieds: front de mer, bus, taxis,épiceries, pharmacie, marché,restaurants.... Gérants charmants pas avares de conseils et anecdotes! Un bémol: un peu bruyant en fin de nuit fenêtres ouvertes pour dormir au frais! Il est possible de mettre la clim moyennant quelques euros...Les lève tôt ne seront cependant pas trop dérangés!

Winkel vlakbij, ook een KFC.
300 meter is de zee. Geen strand om te zwemmen.
5 kilometer verder strand.
Wij huurden een taxi en reden langs de kust. De chauffeur wist veel te vertellen.

This is a lovely place and excellent value

We stayed only for 1 night before flying back home, but we loved this little place. Centrally located, no traffic noise, safe for our child and with a nice atmosphere. The owner is a very nice lady. A good supermarket and the cathedral is located just around the corner. Just a couple minutes walk to the main street and another 5 minutes walk to the Market.

Très pratique et pas très cher

Hôtel très simple, tout à minima, mais le confort est correct, notamment bonne literie. Nous avons pu faire un transit dans de bonnes conditions, ce qui était recherché. Par contre, ne cherchez pas du beau, de la classe, c'est simple. Mais vu le prix, le contrat est rempli !
