We had a great stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Manchester. We were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade to a pitch view room and were also offered complimentary breakfast, which was a nice touch. My partner and I recently stayed at Hilton Garden Inn Old Trafford from 28th–31st May and unfortunately our experience fell well below expectations.

The first issue arose upon arrival when we were charged an unexpected £50. Although this was refunded at checkout, it was not clearly shown when booking. Having stayed at this hotel previously, this was not something we encountered before, so it came as an unwelcome surprise.

At checkout, we were simply processed and sent on our way. No one asked whether we had enjoyed our stay or if there had been any issues, which felt disappointing for a hotel carrying the Hilton name.

One of the most frustrating aspects of our stay was the constant noise from housekeeping. Doors were regularly being slammed throughout the corridors, often early in the morning. When I politely asked a member of staff what the repeated banging noise was, I received a rude response rather than a helpful explanation.

Our biggest complaint, however, was the breakfast experience. For a stay costing nearly £400 for three nights, the breakfast offering was consistently poor. On the first morning there were no baked beans available and we were told this was a supplier issue. On the second morning, only scrambled eggs were available for around 15 minutes while other breakfast items were missing. When we asked where the remaining food was, the chef’s response was simply to shout “PATIENT” at us, which we found completely unacceptable and very unprofessional.

Great hotel for gigs at the O2 Victoria Warehouse — easy walking distance and right next to Old Trafford cricket ground.

Parking was included and surprisingly straightforward, even with the cricket on Sunday. Tram stop right outside and Ubers were quick, with a dedicated pick-up point in the foyer.

At around £120 including parking and breakfast for three, it felt like very good value for the location and facilities.

Room was clean, spacious and well air-conditioned, which was very welcome during the heatwave. Comfortable bed, quiet overnight, and staff were professional and friendly throughout.

Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and a great view overlooking the cricket ground.

We ate out in Salford Quays/MediaCity rather than using the hotel restaurant — only about 10 minutes away by Uber. Kargo MKT was particularly good and the area has a really nice modern waterfront atmosphere now.

Would definitely stay again for concerts, cricket or a weekend away.

Stayed here Sunday night. The "blackout blinds" dont properly shut so the sun came shining in at 4am waking us up. The shower has no door and floods the bathroom. The towels must have been brand new as they left little white bits everywhere. Not just little bits, like me and my clothes all covered in them! Stsff were great, had a full english breakfast over looking the pitch which was really nice.

On arrival, at about 4pm, the member of staff behind the reception desk was very welcoming and helpful. He allocated a quiet room overlooking the cricket pitch, which was a lovely treat! Then he helped me with my key when I couldn’t actually get into my room using a digital keycard, which was really helpful.
The room was comfortable and light. The air con worked, but unfortunately the fridge did not work. I was going to report it on checkout but I had a train to catch and reception was busy when I was leaving so I had no chance to do so.
The toiletries in the bathroom were lovely and pleasantly scented.
Dinner in the restaurant was pleasant and the staff were attentive, but my rump steak was extra chewy and very thick. I did mention it to the member of staff who had served me.

I had a good night’s sleep in the comfortable bed.

Breakfast the next day was awful. I was welcomed when I arrived, and I chose a table overlooking the pitch, and put my bag on the chair, as well as arranging the cutlery. I went for coffee, and on returning found that my table had been moved, my bag thrown on another table and a family with children had taken over a table for 4 next to it. I was speechless.
I moved away and found a different table. As I left, I noticed food all over the floor, and the parents not dealing with the children at all. It really put me off so I did not have breakfast on the second day.
Otherwise, a good hotel. Would stay again.

Hotel under construction. Charging full price disgraceful. Massively in convent. Bathroom dysfunctional and the shower access almost impossible. No lounge. No all day bar or restaurant. Unsafe cab drop off and access to temporary reception clearly not thought through, Two elevators to get to the room with no assistance for seniors. Shameful arrogance on the part of Hilton.

This hotel is under construction in the key area, and it was seriously inconvenient. They should have advised before we booked. Two elevators to get to the room. No reception and lounges out of commission. It should have been seriously discounted. Pure arrogance to charge full price. Breakfast should have been free. Cab drop off with heavy cases involved a difficult walk. No assistance on hand. For a Hilton hotel is a 1 star rating.

Great for parking with really good transport links. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room felt brand new and very clean. It was quite a unique experience staying in a cricket ground, even without a match on, especially having dinner overlooking the pitch!

The only minor downside was being located in the link building, which was quite a walk from reception, and one of the lifts was out of service on that side, making things a little less convenient at times.

Overall, I’d recommend it and would definitely stay again.

I've stayed at the Hilton, Garden Inn, many many times and its always been wonderful, the room, staff etc. Unfortunately the last time was terrible. I was put in room 125, next to the gym.There was dust in the room, the kettle was encrusted with no idea what. The shower didn’t drain properly. The beds creaked, loudly, everytime I moved! The noise from the gym at 7am was annoying. When I checked out the woman on reception asked how my stay was, I explained. She didn’t even apologise, just looked at me like she had a bad smell under her nose. I asked for an email address to complain, she just gave me the front desk email. I will be contacting IHG directly due to the whole experience!!

The worse thing was the door of the suite connecting the two rooms made it feel a bit tight when it was open.

Stayed on a Saturday to watch the United game on the Sunday.

Parking was really easy plenty of space and easy to validate your ticket. Easy check in, room with a view of the cricket ground was really good. Only uaed the bar for some food which was good value. The breakfast is really good too. Nice comfortable rooms and bed, had a good night sleep.

Heating system did not work.
Went to Reception to ask to be moved to be advised the hotel was full! It was a Sunday night stay in February.
To resolve this issue, they gave me a small fan heater that kept me awake for most of the night because of the noise it generated. At check-out I went to log an official complaint with them so they offered a 50% refund without hesitation. I wonder how many 50% refunds this has cost me????

Room showed signs of not been cleaned. Expected more from a Hilton hotel.
Dirty walls, dirty cups, dust on surfaces, empty shower gel, empty tissue box, marks and stains on carpet. Maybe I was just one of the unlucky ones but for the price I paid I could have stayed in a cleaner hotel elsewhere.

Heating thermomstat wasn’t working either - 1 degrees outside - it was a cold night!

Would have complained and asked to move rooms but I was tired and needed to rest before an early start the next day.
I won’t be staying at this hotel again anytime soon.

We had requested a cot a when given one it was a travel cot without a mattress! I was told by housekeeping this is how the cots come and she could pad it out with towels, ridiculous as this was not sufficient for my baby to sleep in. We opened out the sofa bed which was so uncomfortable and had to put the baby on that, the double bed mattress that was already in the room was also so uncomfortable. Horrible spring mattress, hardly slept a wink and neither did my baby! Cleanliness was okay, dust visible in room and bathroom has no bathtub so again difficult to give baby a bath. Shower pressure was so ridiculously slow took us ages to have a shower. Check in time is 3pm yet checkout is 12pm, seems abit unfair the stay is not even 24 hours. Would not stay here again, staff were friendly and fine but facilities were rubbish and mattresses need replacing they are soo uncomfortable!
