We really enjoyed the location of the Inn. Very tranquil. The main floor was very welcoming and cozy. Games were available for quiet playing and there were a variety of drinks available at the bar. Breakfast was very good. Nice choices from the menu. Service took some time. We wanted to leave to go skiing but waited at least 30 min for breakfast to arrive. Room was spacious in Norman Rockwell room. Kids enjoyed sinfle bed nooks. Lots of natural light to wake up to in morning. Saw a few spiders on floor. Probably goes with age of building. Otherwise very clean. Only drawback...we purchased on hotels.com. Said this was final price..nothing owing. Upon departure from inn we were told we owed money for \"extra guests\" in room even though there were 5 beds in room. My husband had asked upon arrival if we owed anything or if all was taken care of and they said we owed nothing. A bit upsetting.

Autumn in Vermont

We decided to take an Autumn trip to Vermont to see the foliage. The West Mountain Inn is a great place to stay because it's off the beaten track but close enough to town to enjoy shopping restaurants etc. Its actually quite self contained with beautiful grounds that include gardens for strolling and their own hiking trails in the ' back forty'. We had a great stay in the Govenor Chittenden room with great views and a nice sitting area. Breakfast which is included is off of a small complete menu that includes pancakes, oatmeal and various egg dishes. We had dinner one night and it was wonderful too. I had the venison special and my husband had salmon. There is a nice little full bar and private sitting areas on the main floor. The only place with a TV was in a secluded area off the bar, where someone was catching up on football. People were reading or visiting and playing board games. The staff is friendly but not obtrusive and very attentive. A nice detail was the coffee, tea station with fresh cookies available anytime. The room was clean, cozy and comfy.

Beautiful old B and B with amazing fall foliage surrounding it. We stayed in the main building and it was great but we were on the 3rd floor so you needed to be able to climb narrow stairs. Wonderful breakfast. Would definitely stay here again.

Come back again and again

I always enjoy coming back to the WMI where you feel like part of the family. The rooms and public areas are very comfortable. The breakfasts are fantastic, as are dinners if you choose to eat there. I always enjoy hiking in the woods onsite and along the river. There is easy access to all there is to do around Manchester and Bennington. I love coming back again and again.

Peaceful & Picture Perfect Retreat

The West Mountain Inn was the perfect setting for a mid-week art reunion with 3 of my friends. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. We enjoyed the sprawling lawns, the mountain vistas, and the clean, fresh air. I hope to return for an annual getaway.

A most relaxing and refreshing stay

This was our third stay at the West Mountain Inn. We come back whenever we are in southern Vermont. The rooms are extremely comfortable and very clean, each with an exquisite view. Lovely art throughout the inn, friendly staff and a golden retriever!

Charming facility; inconsistent service.

My wife and I recently chose the West Mountain Inn for a birthday getaway. It was a pleasant few days. The property and inn are charming. The views are lovely and very New Englandiee The location felt isolated, but near enough to Manchester and Williamstown to offer enough things to do if we chose to leave the property. Our room was very comfortable and clean. The bed and bedding were agreeable. We made good use of the wood burning fireplace in the room. Although we did have to forage for wood with minimum assistance from the staff. A weak link in the room, and surprising for a property of this caliber, were the course paper products - tissues and toilet paper. Also, internet access was sketchy. The front desk and wait staff ranged from very pleasant to stiff. Fortunately more of the former. The breakfasts outshone the dinners. We chose for convenience sake to eat a couple of our dinners at the inn. While the dinners were good, our consensus was they catered to a blander palate than we are used to. Having stayed at a number of inns and B & Bs, we sensed the inconsistent service was probably due to the lack of active owner participation in the daily running of the operation. With inns of that size we usually would have interacted with the owner(s) at some point during our stay. That wasn't the case this trip. Would we go again - yes. The positives outweighed the less than positives.

Perfect Vermont Retreat

Lovely location, casual but very friendly staff, inviting common areas and grounds, large and comfortable room. If you are in the mood for a robust start to the day, order the Ooey Gooey at breakfast - it is as good now as it was 35 years ago when I first ordered it!

Friendly hospitality in beautiful surroundings.

We stayed at the West Mountain Inn for three nights in early August. This was our fourth visit to this property. The inn itself is in top notch condition; the staff is friendly and helpful and the food is wonderful. A complete breakfast is provided and it is among the best we have experienced anywhere in the US or abroad. The rooms each have a distinct character and I would recommend viewing the photos of each if you are a first time visitor. The surroundings are beautiful and the inn property includes a short trail system. The downstairs amenities include a large lounge area and a bar. Dinner is served nightly and the menu is interesting. I would recommend having dinner at the West Mountain at least once during a stay.

Absolutely Loved It!

We loved our stay at West Mountain Inn. We visited mid-December and got to enjoy using their sleds and snow shoes to explore the hiking trails. The room was extremely comfortable, and the food & drinks were fabulous. It's a very relaxed atmosphere - you can even come down for breakfast in your jammies if you're so inclined. Highly recommend.

First Vermont Visit

This was a great way to spend my first visit to Vermont. The West Mountain Inn is restful but lively. With a little bar, comfortable dining area, and homey great room the inn just felt like home but better. Not to be unmatched by the home the grounds top off the experience. Hiking trails abound with anything from a short easy trail to feed the alpacas to a strenuous steep climb through beautiful woods. The fireplace in our room helped create romantic nights. We hope to return.

My Very Favorite Vermont Inn

West Mt. Inn is one of those unique finds that delights your entire spirit.

We first stayed at West Mt in 1979 on our honeymoon when Wes & Maryann Carlson had just bought the Inn. Their hospitality matched the charm of the Inn and we knew that we'd be back again and again. I'm going to guess that we've made 15-20 returns to the Inn since then. Some visits were just my wife and I, some with our children and once even with our extended family to celebrate our 16th Anniversary.

Our most recent visit was in October 2016 to celebrate our 37th Wedding Anniversary.

The Inn, now owned by Maryann's daughter, Amy, has the same magical charm as always. The warm hospitiality and delicious food just magnify the experience even more.

I am certain beyond the shadow of any doubt that you will love West Mt. Inn as much as we do. Every time that I visit it I can feel my entire spirit loving the calm and peace and friendship of this delightful Inn and the people that grace it.

As they always say at West Mt. Inn..... You're One of the Folks.

Highlight of my Trip

Never having stayed at a B&B Before, I did not know what to expect. I loved this place! The bed was comfortable, room clean and charming. The dinner was topnotch, as well as, the breakfast. Traveling through Vermont

West Mountain Inn was a beautiful place to stay. The staff are extremely caring. We were late arriving to the Inn due to delayed travel plans and received a phone call from the Inn to check we were ok and not lost on our way. The food at the Inn was delicious and even though we arrived quite late, we were served a lovely dinner. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, as well as very clean. Breakfast was also delicious. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The views from the Inn are spectacular, and as we were traveling to see the fall colors, it was an impressive sight. I highly recommend the Inn to anyone traveling near Arlington, Vermont.

Fall Foliage at West Mountain Inn

We always wanted to stay at the West Mountain Inn after seeing it many years ago. We finally go to do it this year for fall foliage and it was spectacular. The inn was charming and immaculate. Breakfast was amazing. Dinner was ok but nothing special.

We took the Lye Brook Falls hike and had a challenging but terrific hike.

We will definitely plan on going again next year.

Lovely Vermont Inn

Staying here reminded me of the inns in the movies White Christmas and Holiday Inn! It is located in a beautiful setting and near many southern Vermont's attractions. The fall colors were gorgeous. The staff is very friendly and helpful. With many B & B's there is very little counter space in the bathroom for our train case.

West Mountain Inn has all it needs to be the perfect hideaway, but management doen't seem to see it that way. The staff walks around with alcoholic beverages, the food is average, (wait staff verbose), and the AC noise is louder than many a place on Manhattan. If you want to get away from it all, don't try to find your peace and quiet here.

This all would be bearable if the price were OK, but prices are upscale. Therefore, I would think I could expect an upscale sojourn. It was not. We rented the suite, where the sitting room was used as temporary storage for a conference room table. All in all, a very unsatisfactory experience.

The inn was comfortable and cozy and the grounds and gardens were just beautiful! We stayed 1 night on our way up to northern Vermont and ended up booking it for another night on our way back. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. Perfect location for visiting Mt Equinox and Manchester area.

I was so looking forward to staying at this inn, which is situated in an extremely pretty setting. I was attending a conference in Bennington and instead of staying at a more commercialized motel like my colleagues, I thought I would enjoy being in a place that seemed much more bucolic. But the woman at the desk was one of the least friendly people I've ever met in a place where one expects hospitality. She barely said hello, took me to my room without even asking if she could assist me with my bags. The next morning when I came downstairs to breakfast at 8:10 and asked her if it was being served she said, I don't know. When I checked out she didn't even say farewell. It is pretty. The bed was comfortable. The food wasn't particularly tasty.

Trip through Vermont

Recently traveling through Vermont on a genealogy quest we stayed one night in the West Mountain Inn. The Inn is beautifully set against the mountainside just outside of Arlington, VT. The grounds are lush and beautifully maintained. Our room was a bit rustic, but very clean and comfortable. Our meal in the restaurant was good and service was adequate. We had a good night's sleep. Breakfast was very good. Overall a pleasant stay that we would be happy to repeat.

Beautiful inn, full of warm hospitality

Every member of the inn's team was kind, personable, and friendly. The inn's furnishings and ambiance are so inviting! We enjoyed the local musical evening in the pub very much. Breakfasts are delicious and HUGE - suitable for all day mountain hikers! It would be a beautiful place for a small destination wedding, family reunion, etc...

Our car broke down in their parking lot. After some phone calls to AAA, we arranged for repairs. While we were carless, the staff offered their own vehicles for our use. Also provided a ride to the repair shop.

Our breakfast and dinners here were amazing! We really enjoyed feeding the alpacas, hiking the on-site trails, sledding, and using this as the basecamp to explore southern Vermont. The staff were very friendly to our 6-year old too and he enjoyed learning to play checkers!

Weekend Getaway

The ambiance was very nice and the staff were very friendly and made all 3 of us feel welcomed and comfortable during the full stay. We would both return as well as recommend the Inn to our friends and family. Our room was a bit dated and they are making renovations to the different rooms, thus the owners understand the same and are addressing that one minor issue.

A nice treat

This was our first experience in a Bed and Breakfast and were very impressed. We felt like family and enjoyed the company of the other guests as well as staff. The room was the perfect size with a private bath, fire place and even exterior door to the back room. We loved Sarah's room. The scenery was surreal and it was a nice get away.

Our first Bed & Breakfast & New England Experience

My husband and I hit the road for an experiment to see if we could do our jobs from anywhere. We started in Arlington, VT because of the Batten Kill River (my husband is a fly fisherman). The West Mountain Inn setting was breath taking and the staff went beyond the call of duty to make us feel welcome and comfortable. We loved it and would definitely recommend it. Cell and wifi coverage was a bit iffy which made working a little difficult but other than that it was wonderful!

Beautiful setting and very charming inn. We stayed in the Norman Rockwell room which worked for my wife and me and our adult daughter. Cubby bed for her was a little weird but comfortable. Short but pleasant stay

Unfortunately, we arrived late, about midnight, though there was a note welcoming us and a key at the front desk. We had to leave early the next morning so were not able to have breakfast. They were kind enough to give us a plate with a couple of muffin tops and sticky buns as we were leaving. The breakfast looked great. We stayed in one of the houses, which was, as expected, quite old, perhaps not as charming as expected.

Fall foliage

My girlfriend and I just spent 3 days in Arlington and stayed at the West Mountain Inn.

the staff was friendly and very accomondating. We hiked the grounds, (130 acres) and had a wonderful dinner, Breakfast was not only delicious, they had many entrees to choose from. The staff was first class.

We will definatly re-visit.

The BEST of VERMONT

We stay here every year. Each room is special. The chef is out of this world. The labyrinth, the alpaca, and the hikes make this place very unique. Guests talk to one another in the common rooms and enjoy the people who work there....they are always gracious and kind. This is the most special place in Vermont. If you pick up a guest book you will notice that most of the writers return again and again and again. Go find out why.

We spent our 30th anniversary there and were taken by the very friendly staff who bent over backwards to make us feel welcome. We wined and dined, the dinner and the breakfast were phenomenal. Luna the Golden Retriever walked with us during light rain to explore the yard and visit the Alpacas. A great and highly recommended place to stay at. We'll certainly return.

A Wonderful Respite in Vermont

West Mountain Inn is a lovely country inn. Each room is different, ours was #1 which was bright and airy with a large bath and a pillow top king size bed. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed feeding apples to the alpacas. The farm to table restaurant was excellent. One of the many selections for breakfast was fresh raspberry pancakes. Dinner was delicious with a choice of 8 entrees. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating. We definitely plan to return and wish we could have stayed longer.
