Its great for access to transit and the neighbourhood is great. Fairly bare bones, but has all the basic hotel amenities. I didn’t make it to the continental breakfast, but it looked great. The staff is fantastic and the reason I’m taking the time to review (usually too lazy :p). The front desk was incredibly accommodating with last minute chaos on my part. Cleaning staff also so friendly. Thank you!

I arrived close to midnight to find that the building was in an awkward corner, looking nothing like the picture! My lift had to park on a turning lane. In the advertisement, we were told there was accessibility....there wasn't a ramp to get into the building or an elevator. I had 2 seniors over 80, who have difficulty walking....this put undue stress on me. I had to ask for a ground floor room, which I was told I was to pay extra! I went to the manager and the fee was waivered. I was told it was the fault of Expedia and not Howard Johnson for the advertisement online. I feel it is the fault of the establishment to keep current and honest of their services, and to notify Expedia. Expedia needs to investigate the properties it advertises. The breakfast was very basic. Overall I am very disappointed. Not going back if you paid me. It ruined my weekend.

UPDATE: I was told by the Expedia agent I was CHARGED EXTRA FOR THE ROOM....THE MANAGER DID NOT REMOVE IT AS PROMISED!

There was a shooting on the street,so it was blocked off. The outside of the hotel was HORRIBLE at first glance. Could not believe it was a Howard Johnson. Rooms even tho were clean,looked aged. Hallways look dirty. I guess the 1st floor had renovations. The the second floor where we were was just nasty. Even the taxi driver told us we should leave,told us the workers go thru our stuff when we are not there. Said crack heads are frequent there.

I was a little nervous about staying here after reading some of the reviews. But overall this place was great. Room was clean and had everything we needed. Front lobby wasnt the most inviting. Friendly staff. Breakfast had the basics which was fine. Didn't like that there wasn't on-site parking. The walk to park wasn't far at all but the additional charge was a bit of a piss off.

First day we checked into this pigsty didn’t go well. The manager was very unprofessional and did not reason by any means. When I booked with Expedia for the this place it asked how old my kids were and how many adults. My daughter was 17 so Expedia labelled her as a kid and when I spoke with the manager he got defensive and said she’s an adult not a child and I said well if you have an issue deal with Expedia not me it’s not my problem they label 17 and under “kids”. Then upon entering our room the floors were filthy like they haven’t been washed in quite some time, they had glitter confetti all over the made bed and sofa bed and floor. There was blood on one of the fresh towels (when finding this I went to address the issue and there was no hotel staff in sight) we did not use the sofa bed the first couple nights. I wrote a bad first impression review and the next day the manager printed off my review and approached me and he was clearly upset and denied that his facilities were bad and said no and turned away. It was VERY UNPROFESSIONAL of him doing that. He could have handled it way better. And within the next day we started to use the sofa bed and upon checking the bed there was an opened condom wrapper under the sofa bed and was very dirty. I can guarantee I will never go to a Howard Johnson ever again. Not because of the cleanliness part but solely because of the managers actions and behaviour towards my family and I.

The room was nice and clean. Excellent price. Parking is about a block away but is not a bad walk. Mass transit is very good. I was contently bothered by beggars and drug addicts asking for money! Police presence is high and the Toronto Officers are first rate. I asked one for directions and she could not been more helpful suggesting a better course of action for me. I would not recommend the hotel for seniors and people with young pre teen children. Be advised the hotel is three floors with NO ELEVATOR!!!! This was my first trip to Toronto in 32 years. I was going to EVE ONLINE festival. I will spend the money are stay at a hotel closer. I would pick this hotel if I was in Toronto on pure Business only. The key is having somewhere for car to park at. Again the staff was friendly and professional.

The staff was nice, everything else was very low quality. Extremely tiny room, bathroom door didn't even open fully as it would hit the sink. Shower curtain torn, stains on the wall. Small bed and some of the pillows appeared discolored/off-white. Window didn't seal properly so the room was freezing at night. No sound barrier at all, and there was a train station behind, barely got 3 hours of sleep. Room was a non-smoking room, yet somehow the floor stunk of it. No safe/locker in the room

When we went to check in to the hotel we had to wait 20 minutes for someone to come to the front desk, the building is old, run down and dingy! our room was positively tiny, there was an old window air conditioner in the window with an old blanket wrapped around it to keep the cold air out (poorly) and a portable heater in the room on the window ledge beside the airconditioner...about 18 inches away from the bed, I guess to use incase it got too cold. the double bed was stuffed in a divet in the room the width of the bathroom and as wide as a double bed with about 18 \" maximum on both sides of the bed to get into...with just enough room, to pass at the bottom of the bed between the bed and the small desk. Everything was old and shabby and there is absolutely no place to park anywhere close, unless you are lucky to find a spot a block or so up the street. The continental Breakfast left a lot to be desired too... there was toast/bagels/waffles, 3 cereals and oatmealI ... there were some rough looking oranges and a few oldish looking apples and that's all.... so breakfast wasn't great! I was extremely disappointed as usually the Howard Johnson chain is usually better quality...especially for the $150/night price tag that came along with it.... I would expect to get this type of room for maybe $39-$49/night! We will never, ever stay there again.

Room was small but everything was clean. Picture online didn’t do it fair justice. There’s no parking in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, but there is (rather cheap for Toronto) closeby overnight available. Nice staff at front desk will provide a little map with directions. Breakfast is free and items within are of limited choice, but enough to go around for everyone twice. The hallways could use a bit of an upgrade, but that’s not where we sleep in the end so perhaps it’s irrelevant, just pointing it out. The room was also 3 walking floors up, no elevator (pretty standard for 3 story buildings). If I had knee or back problems, this would have been an issue (just trying to be informative to people that have to live with these pains in their lives).

I literally cried when I walked into my closet size room. There was a crack head in the lobby when I arrived freaking out because the nacho place across the street messed up her order. I was scared and felt unsafe staying there. Was not even worth the $400 I paid for the whole week. WiFi rarely worked, bed had stains, only good thing was how nice the cleaning ladies were.

The property is located in a very shady part of town. The clerk was shady too when I tried to change my room from a 1 bed to 2 bed room. He wanted me to pay cash!!!! When I said thatbibreallybhad no cash. He charged my card. Shouldnt have bothered because I couldn’t stay there. There were too many weird people walking in and out. Definitely didn’t feel safe. Ended up having to book somewhere else. Total dump.

Not a good hotel at all. Howard Johnson has gone down hill big time. I remember this being a great chain once. Dirty bathrooms dirty hallways odd smells throughout the building. Bad neibourhood. No individual heat controls was so hot I had to sleep with windows open and being down town was noisy and bright. There is no parking you have to use public lots that are blocks away. Avoid this place.

The rooms are ridiculously small. The linen was old and the mattress was old. The heat was on super high. There should be no reason why I had to turn on the AC when it’s freezing outside. There was no option for me to control the heating system specific to my room as the control is for the entire property.

We booked a king bed through Expedia when we got here they told us it hotel is under renovation and they only have a room with 2 double beds which is an upgrade from a king... well not for a married couple on a night away from the kid. Then they did find us a king bed but in a smoking room. There were at least 5 holes in the wall. The window in the bathroom was left open so the room was cold and there is no heating controls. The window in the bedroom was cracked and let cold air seep through. They also dont have a parking lot so you have to drive park and walk 5 minutes back. I've been to a couple Howard Johnson's and they ate not 5 star hotels but this one was absolute garbage
Sleeping here was terrible the pillows are terrible my neck was so sore in the morning. You can hear everything. Including the people in the room beside me coughing all night there is absolutely no sound proofing in this hotel

Parking is a 5 minute walk and cheap but not convenient. Overall if you need a place to stay for a couple of days, its not too bad but would not stay longer.

The parking was very difficult to find, and the front desk person was not very helpful in trying to find it. Later on, when we tried to leave our room, our door was locked and we could not get it open from the inside. When I tried to use the phone to call the front desk, the line would not connect. The window in the room did not actually open; it was just a pane of glass. If we did not have our cell phones to call the front desk, we would not have been able to leave the room. Once the door was finally opened, we were given a different room. However, we found bugs in the beds in the new room. We ended up checking out and sleeping in my car.

We walked in. Manager was arguing with a customer on the phone.He was accusing him destroying his two mattresses by peeing on them. Also a fight was going on in the lobby with a drug deal went wrong.I stood there for 20 mins and was just ignored. My room was booked and paid prior to my arrival and found out they have no rooms available.I was told they will try to get drunk out of one of the bed and may have a room for me later. I left and asked for the money and they refused .Hotel is very deceitfully advertised. I am not exxorating . PLEASE this hotel is only suitable for desperate people. Sure this hotel's rooms' condition is a little shabby and the neighborhood is a little on the seedy side, but for the price I paid (in comparison to most hotels relatively close to Toronto city center), I really can't complain.
The room he all the basics I needed, including a coffee maker and comfortable bed, and the location right next to the streetcar stop was very convenient for a direct ride downtown. My room was small, but actually a bit bigger than the typical business hotel in Japan (size is always a relative thing) and the bathroom was actually considerably less shabby than the room itself. It seems that only the bathroom must have been renovated. No real complaints from me though - I was quite satisfied with my stay at this Howard Johnson's.
