Our stay was absolutely amazing! The staff was wonderful and our room was perfect, it was a bit small but it was perfect for my partner and I! We had no problems at all. The complementary breakfast buffet was amazing! Definitely recommend staying here!

I stayed at the Riu Plaza Toronto Hotel from March 6–8, 2026, and had a completely unacceptable experience.

On the morning of March 7, a housekeeping staff member entered my room without knocking or announcing themselves while I was inside. I was undressed at the time, making this a serious and humiliating violation of my privacy. This should never happen under any circumstances.

What’s even more concerning is how the situation was handled. When it was reported to the front desk, there was no accountability or genuine concern shown.

I later contacted corporate, and they were just as dismissive, stating they could do nothing. No apology, no resolution.

This experience demonstrated a complete disregard for guest privacy and basic customer service. I would not recommend staying here.

I booked a room at the Riu Toronto today under genuinely difficult circumstances. My mother, who has Alzheimer’s, was unable to tolerate having out-of-town guests stay with her, so I scrambled to find a nearby hotel at the last minute through Hotels.com. What followed was one of the more dispiriting hotel experiences I’ve had in years of travel as an SPG Gold for Life and Hilton Diamond member.
The first red flag: because Hotels.com reservations apparently take time to appear in their system, a manager had to intervene just to confirm my booking existed. Fine. Understandable. Systems have lag.
What is not fine is what came next.
I explained at check-in that while I had made the reservation, the two guests accompanying me would be the ones staying. The front desk clerk was kind and genuinely tried her best to help. Her supervisor, however, couldn’t be bothered to get up from behind her desk. She mumbled in our general direction and offered a dismissive wave of the hand, as though our situation was an inconvenience she had no interest in engaging with. She did not acknowledge me. She did not make eye contact. She did not attempt the basic professional courtesy of addressing a guest directly.
Apparently, the solution to my straightforward request was a surcharge, because the fully prepaid, non-modifiable Hotels.com booking needed to be “changed” to accommodate \"additional guests.\"

Basic budget hotel. For a $50-80 more you could get a better hotel with basic amenities such as toiletries, bathrobe and slippers. Lobby bar was well stocked and bartender was lovely. Staff is great, rooms are clean and worth a stay if you get it for around $200 a night.

No parking - Our floor flooded and they switched us. Wasted a half day because some of our items got wet and it took 4.5 hours and many phone calls to get our laundry back. (Had a winter jacket and it was cold outside) This was frustrating but the staff was nice. The lobby is very small and there is no room service. Great location though- close to many attractions.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Riu Plaza Toronto and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience related to how a medical need was handled.

During the complimentary breakfast service, I was rushed to finish my meal as staff were closing the dining area. I explained that I have a medical condition due to gastric surgery, which limits how quickly I am able to eat, and asked for a simple accommodation—either a bit more time or permission to take my food to my room.

Despite clearly communicating this, my request was denied, and I was made to feel like an inconvenience rather than a guest with a legitimate need. The situation was distressing enough that I left the dining area in tears.

I did speak with a manager at the front desk, who acknowledged that the situation should not have happened and apologized. However, the only resolution offered was a late checkout, which did not meaningfully address the impact of the experience.

What is most concerning is not just the interaction itself, but the lack of flexibility and understanding around accessibility needs. The request I made was simple and would not have caused any disruption, yet it was still refused.

The hotel itself is clean and well-located, but this experience significantly impacted my stay. I hope the hotel takes this feedback seriously and improves how staff are trained to handle situations involving medical or accessibility needs, so other guests do not have a similar experience.

Hotel is very new and in good condition. Breakfast buffet was excellent. This hotel has NO ice machines, not a single one. If you want ice you need to go to the hotel lobby bar and ask for a cup of ice. Lobby area is quite small so can get crowded at peak time. Rooms are nice; one downside is when bathroom light is turned on, light goes through the tinted glass door and light up the room.

Clean comfortable room, good breakfast selection. Very friendly staff, easy walk or tram from Union Station. Lots of places to eat out within radius of 10 minutes walk. If you are a light sleeper you will want a room away from the lifts as the lift arrival chime is quite intrusive. The room doors slam shut as well which can be noisy down the corridors.

This hotel is in a great location. It was very clean. However, we had friends staying on a different floor and we could not go to their floor or vice versa. We asked at the front desk how we could access their floor and we were told we couldn’t. We had to meet in the lobby. Frustrating. The complimentary breakfast buffet was good. However the staff/manager at the hostess stand were very difficult to deal with. We asks for a table for 4 as our friends who were in another floor were going to join us. They would not seat us until all of us were physically standing together. One staff member lectured us on how busy the restaurant was and that we needed to step out of line and wait. It was very embarrassing. My husband and I have stayed in many hotels over the years. We have never had an experience like this. We will not go back to this property nor will we recommend it to any of our friends.

If you are a tourist, looking for a convenient location and plan to be out and about all day, this is a great property. If you just need a place to lay your head and store your suitcases, the breakfast is amazing (like an all inclusive) and the staff are lovely. Rooms are clean albeit very small (think enough room to walk around the bed and that’s it). However, as a business traveller, the property does not hit the mark. The rooms are small, no desks, the TV system is almost useless, sheets are some sort of poly- blend and mattresses feel like ‘bed in a box.”. There is not even a comfortable place to be outside of your room since the bar/coffee shop is basically at the front door hallway / entrance to the hotel and therefore high traffic and cold (with the door constantly opening and closing). Hallways look like they are decorated for ease of cleaning (not one soft surface anywhere), so you feel like you are staying in an SRO when you come off the elevator.

My son and I stayed for two nights, and we couldn’t be more impressed! It was AWESOME in every way! Great neighborhood, close to everything you’d need. The hotel gym was AWESOME, and the breakfast was second to none (a huge variety of great food). The staff was AWESOME as well. Absolutely unacceptable experience at Riu Plaza Toronto.

I checked into my room only to find a used pair of underwear inside the bed. This is not a small mistake it is a complete failure of basic housekeeping and hygiene standards. There is no excuse for a bed not being properly cleaned and inspected before a guest arrives.

To make matters worse, after reporting this extremely disturbing issue, I was only offered $100 in compensation, which is frankly insulting given the severity of the situation. This completely undermined my trust in the cleanliness of the entire room and ruined the start of my stay.

Cleanliness is the bare minimum expectation at any hotel. If something this obvious was missed, it raises serious concerns about what else is being overlooked.

I would not recommend staying here unless you are willing to risk poor hygiene standards and inadequate customer service when issues arise.

If management cannot guarantee something as fundamental as a clean bed, it’s hard to trust anything else about this property. I would strongly caution others before booking here.

I had a wonderful stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. From the moment I arrived, the check-in process was smooth, efficient, and welcoming. The front desk staff were professional, friendly, and made sure everything was taken care of quickly. Check-out was just as seamless, which made the overall experience even more convenient.

One of the highlights of my stay was the buffet breakfast. There was a great variety of options, everything was fresh, and the quality exceeded my expectations. It was a perfect way to start each day.

I think the room is too cold. Or maybe its needed with a duvet in the winter. I find myself really cold in the room despite heating and I didn't sleep so well as a consequence.
Equally I was very troubled by the dings of the elevator. I was allowed to get a different room but the room I was given was also very close to the elevator so I still was disturbed by 'dings'. Last time I visited (in January) the room was far better located, in a corner far away from the elevator (also very cold though). I found the breakfast room to be extremely busy with long queues every day.

There was no tissue in the room for days. The staff took my wine glasses - they said by accident. No water refill once we arrived and we were there for a week. Line ups for breakfast and they take your plate to clear the table while you are still eating. You can’t get breakfast until they prove you are a guest and yet they have 10 workers standing around in the lobby so no one is getting into the hotel without staying there. No ice machines anywhere and they won’t give you an ice bucket unless you buy their wine. It’s actually ridiculous…..they need a better Management Team. Oh ya….they also said I didn’t have a reservation and made me wait 15 minutes before they realized they did have a reservation…..Very unhappy!!!

We choose the RIU for a Weekday Evening away. We have had experience with the RIU Family of resorts in several countries so we thought we would try this new Toronto location. The STAFF is exceptional. Not overstating when I say this. Everyone and I mean everyone holds themselves to a very high standard and it was felt. Facility is clean, secure, modern and fresh. Breakfast Buffet which was included in the nights stay, was what you would expect in an All Inclusive resort not in a single night stay big city Hotel Room, very impressed. Would recommend to family and friends for sure!!
