Terrible decor in the Room. Deluxe Seaview Room on 3rd floor was dissappointing with cracked floor tiles in the bathroom. For the cash, expected more. Lift wasn't working 3 days out of 5 day stay. Breakfast selection was ok but nothing special - certainly not 5 star. Service from the staff was excellent though. Spa was good, but would recommend that the Reception Desk at the Spa don't show rhe Guests what is available in the Pool/Sauna area on the Security Screen - given that it means you can see all the semiclad guests who are in there!

The radiator in the room was on constantly so the room was too hot , therefore had to sleep with window wide open. The issue was raised to reception 3 times and nothing was done. The hotel location is lovely but could do with a few more staff at night as felt I had to ask for drinks rather than being asked. This is not what you expect from a 5 star hotel.

We booked a spa package, the spa was a bit tired. The ice room had no ice, tiles were broken and missing.
Lunch in the bar was included within the package, staff were in a hurry to take our food order but drinks were slow. The food was good. Our room 136 was not fit to be let out, there were two cracked tiles on the bathroom floor and one loose tile which could have caused an accident, many other floor tiles were uneven. This was an existing issue. Control dials were missing from the shower.

Old property and it shows. Rooms are very small and showers are not up to modern standards. Room was very hot with no real option to cool it down. This is a sizeable property which unbelievably has only one lift - a very slow lift - that seems to spend most of its time being used by staff. Disappointed and won’t use this property again.

Overall impression was of dimness - poorly lit corridors etc. Food was a bit pretentious, italian in restaurant was a surprise, more traditional in bar - but who serves stew in a bowl?? Seating areas plentiful but not very comfortable and tended to be crowded (I stayed at weekend). My room was OK but with 2 uncomfortable chairs and a sofa was hardly restful. No printed guide to phone numbers, meal times, menus or facilities in room, instead one had to access their web site which was a total PAIN...Staff were polite and helpful.

First room on arrival was cold and noisy. Underground boiler throbbing in room 104 . Asked to move( no room phone working had to go to reception ) . Given a great sea view room but again very cold . Went out for the day came back late afternoon and room was freezing . No room phone working ( had to go to reception again ). Central heating off agreed to switch it on . Room took 1 hour to begin to heat up . Went for dinner in the hotel - dining room cold - very uncomfortable . Next morning checked out 15/3 but no systems working . Just got final bill today 27/3 . Reported all the issues to management absolutely no contact . Waited for any contact before posting this review - none . Just shocking treatment . Cater for tourists no regard for locals just such a bad experience never stay there again ( this was our third booking ). Think they would make an effort to apologise !!

The hotel was very nice, clean and the room was big, comfortable and well decorated. Unfortunately we had a very poor experience in the hotel bar where we went for dinner. Service was slow, they forgot our cutlery, our drinks order and our desserts, which never came at all. Following a complaint to the hotel, they have addressed the issues and been very accommodating in offering a suitable solution so I can't fault them on that front and on that basis, would be willing to return

A visit of ups and downs

Reception well-staffed &didn’t have to wait, but our room wasn’t ready on arrival, which was disappointing. An apology & an offer of a pot of tea while we waited would have made a difference but we were feeling quite fed-up by the time the room was ready.
At the hotel’s invitation, we had upgraded to sea-view junior suite but the room allocated (110) didn’t meet their description of a junior suite so we queried it. James was brilliant, he showed us two other junior suites but, although definitely suites &very nice, both were very cold – no heat in the rads - and neither had a sea view. We decided to revert to a Deluxe Sea View and James showed us two rooms. The one we chose was lovely but again was very cold – no heat in the rads & one of the windows didn’t close properly. James provided a small oil-filled radiator and that did the trick; we were happy with the room. The lady on reception was very helpful, and quickly refunded the extra cost of the suite. Service at breakfast was very good as was the food – good variety and nicely cooked. Dinner was a bit strange in that the room information referred to the Lawn restaurant as “Championing the very best of British cuisine …” but the menu was Italian (where would we be without Google!). The food was good (if a bit on the expensive side) but not the British cuisine we would have liked, again the service was very good. Very friendly and efficient staff (with the possible exception of the gentleman who checked us in).

Interior design of the hotel is superb - clearly a lot of thought (and money) invested in the revamp.
The only let down was the shambolic bar service -35 minutes waiting for a drink order to appear.

Great hotel but spa not good. Foyer, bar, restaurant, room, views all lovely. Comfortable room. A few issues though. We paid more for a sea view, and we're looking out side of hotel rather than the sea front. We chose this hotel for the spa, and paid the premium prices over other local hotels for this. When we went down it was absolutely mobbed, kids swimming lessons, lots of annoyed looking guests queuing to get into the wee sauna rooms! And the outdoor splash pool was closed (locals since said it's often closed). They need a booking system as we basically stood around getting cold waiting for a space in sauna, then gave up. Also shower in our room was v v bad, basically unusable. Such a shame as v lovely hotel otherwise and wonderful location. I emailed them these comments but a week on no reply which is disappointing.

The actual hotel was beautiful and lovely scenic views. I didn’t receive any upgrade for VIP member on Expedia and I did not receive a response to my two email complaints I made for my stay. I didn’t find the staff particularly helpful- they were rude. The rooms had the heating blasting all during the night so my family couldn’t sleep. We raised this but staff on reception didn’t do anything about it and were too busy laughing with each other in the background to do anything about it. Spa was fabulous and rooms were lovely- bathroom was dated.

Stayed here for two nights excellent 4 star hotel food excellent with excellent service.Hotel has many rooms all seem to be individual however our room was a bit of an odd shape with a small window overlooking the front of the hotel and a bathroom that was very difficult to get into i.e. when opening the door you had to squeeze through between the open door and the sink you had to be rather slim to do this! The water pressure when filling the bath (as we were on the third floor) is very low so you will need to wait a while to fill the bath. Breakfast is waiter served great choice full English and alternative choices and self service for all fresh bakery bread fruit.etc. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is in an fantastic location with a spa that includes an ice room sauna, steam room and heated pool and outside small jacuzzi pool. Would definitely come back.

MUST STAY!! This hotel exceeded my expectations from the moment I booked my stay to when I checked out.

-They helped me organize my transportation from the train station in Edinburgh to the hotel.

-They were always great at communicating, answering my pre-arrival questions, and quick to reply.

-Check-in was great and the employees were very welcoming.

-The room was amazing, well kept, clean, traditional, great view, comfy bed and pillows...loved it!

-The grounds are top notch. Beautiful view and location, great golf course, nice benches on the water to enjoy the views and look out at the water.

-Great location, beautiful neighborhood, quiet and safe, and a perfect short walk to the main downtown area with great shops, restaurants, all the touristy things, and the train station.

-Restaurant food/beverage options were all great! Had phenomenal fish and chips, great local beer and liquor selections, nice morning breakfast, and lovely seating and dining location options throughout the lobby and downstairs common areas. All the servers and bartenders were nice, knowledgeable, and made the experience even better.

-The prices for everything were very reasonable. I would have paid more for the room, the food, the logoed items they sell, etc. Great quality, great value.

If you are ever even near North Berwick, you need to check out this hotel! Stay here if you can, or even stop in for some food or a drink. This was my first visit, and I cannot wait to return!!

In this golf vacation we stayed in 4 hotels. The Marine hotel, by far had the best food and service of them all.

Sits right on the North Berwick golf course with great views of the course and coast line.

One not like would be they could do with a ramp at the front to get suitcases from street level to the hotel door.

It was a last minute booking and a great find. We only stayed 1 night but I wish we had booked for longer! We loved the spa facilities. One small thing spoilt the 5star experience - being a hotel next to a golf course we would have hoped the guests follow golf club etiquette and not make a FaceTime call on loud speaker for all to hear. Staff should have politely asked the person in question to stop. The lounge area was spacious and the views amazing but this selfishness was disappointing.

The bedroom was beautifully decorated and we had a great view, overlooking the golf course and sea. Only issue was the room was very warm with no air conditioning and we coild only open the window about 10cm for fresh air, which wasn't really enough.
We had drinks that were reasonably priced and we really liked the pool and outdoor spa pool.
It is a short walk from the town centre which was ideal for us.

Recently refurbished - this fabulous hotel is set on the water next to Bass Rock. The views over the golf course, sea and the rocks are brilliant. The staff and service are truly 5 star and the food in the restaurant and in the bar are delicious - we ate here almost every night.

Just beautiful

Beautiful place to stay. Friendly staff that was a huge help. Loved the beach and the grounds. Wish I could’ve stayed longer.

Superb

Great night away, lovely walks which the dog loved. Nice bars and restaurants nearby. Used the spa which was fantastic. Breakfast was superb.
Staff lovely and friendly, will definitely return.

The views from the bar and restaurant are stunning. The rooms are furnished in a traditional style and to a high standard. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely return as we didn’t manage to find time to use the Spa but it looked great.
