Great location in a welcoming town

The hotel is very well situated in an extremely pleasant town; it is a very short walk to the beaches and shops with easy access to everything in the area. The hotel staff are very friendly and efficient. The extensive breakfast buffet provides multiple choices which is typical of a European breakfast buffet. It would be even better if they provided a section which was clearly marked solely for guests with food allergies, as the risk of cross contamination when using the utensils was high. Overall a very nice hotel which I definitely recommend.

Very nice hotel, BUT, management turned off the AC system while it was still around 80 outside so the hotel was very warm. The ventilation would not work unless the heat was on so the only way to cool the room was to open the window. Unfortunately our room faced the water where music was heard until after midnight, then the noises of partying was heard until well after midnight. Very frustrating. In addition, they advertised access to a spa but to actually use the sauna is $20 per person. Overall, not a good experience.

The staff could not have been nicer. The problems were out of their control. The air conditioning broke in the entire building and after the air was off it smelled like dog. Couldn’t open the windows because the city had a concert that went on till 2:am blasting loud. Also without telling us our hotel pool was shut down for two weeks. Here’s the great part they own 5 hotels and they upgraded us to an amazing room on the back of the building at 10:30 that night. We gave up the water view but it was so worth the move.

Mnogo puta smo bili u ovom hotelu. Ovo je poslednji! Osoblje je ocajno, neljubaznost gde god se okrenes. U restoranu specijalna neljubaznost vecine zaposlenih. Naplacuju smestaj za dete, a za dorucak nisu hteli da nam daju ni jednu bananu!

The rooms are quite dusty, there are deposits of dust above the curtains. In terms of overall comfort, the hotel would need renovation. Especially the section with standard rooms. Pillows are like stone. I remember the times when the hotel was far better. The staff is nice, they do their best, but the decline in quality is obvious. Especially when it comes to category 4+. So, much better 3 star, than 4+.

Hotel needs reconstruction...

I like the place, I been there for many times... Anyhow, the Hotel needs reconstruction so badly. From the point of view of services, I remember the times, when Hotel was 5*, right now most services as well as equipment are on 3* level. Especially breakfast are really weak, cold scramble eggs and watery orange juice is too low standard for pretty high pricing out of the season. I assume, that manny of guests will return, because they are long time visitors as I'm. So they will return some how till day they not...

Pleasant stay, but...

Overall we had a pleasant stay, but a few things were disturbing. We booked a sea view room more than 8 months in advance, they allocated the worst possible room with very obstructed view. No beach towels, no kettle, very dated feel... Big positive is a free use of thermal pools, which we loved.

Food and service in restaurant great.

This hotel is very well located, the food and service in the restaurant was excellent. The service on reception let me down a little as our stay started by having to argue to acquire parking that we had understood was part of the booking. This is a basic infrastructure issue that the hotel needs to resolve. The bed for our child was in three levels, so unsatisfactory. It only works for very young children. Given the Covid-19 situation, the government subsidizing these hotels, I expected far more in service.

A real find !

The Grand is on the waterfront of a slightly \"seaside\" resort. We chose it for its nearness to historic and utterly magical Piran - a very easy bus journey from the stop outside the hotel.
Very useful to have valet parking.
Rooms were large, beautifully presented and excellent value for money.
Dinner and breakfast buffets were amazing and delicious.
Friendly, professional staff.

Expensive recliners and umbrellas on the beach (they used to be included in the price) - no cheaper than in Cannes, which Portorož definitely isn’t. Welness center closed when we were there.

Expected more from a 5-star hotel

If this was a 3 or 4 star hotel I would give them a better overall rating, but from a 5-star I expected much more.

The location is great. You have to walk about 200 m to their Meduza beach but that's OK.

The rooms are small, but very clean. The safe isn't big enough to fit an iPad. Our room was located in older part of the hotel so we had limited TV selection (I probably wouldn't care if it wasn't pointed out by the hotel;).
We did have 2 issues with the room. They had to fix the doors as there was a 1cm gap on top so we heard everything from the corridor during night (fixed the next day). The 2nd issue was the AC. First problem is that you can't turn it off. That led to the other issue. When the AC turnes on it was very loud. That woke me up 3 times.

The food is very average and the selection was quite limited.

The service from the reception staff was great. Most of the other staff was also great. Some of the waiters were not what we would expecte, but luckily the one we had for most of the time was very good.

My wife used their beauty services and wasn't too happy with them as well (very average).

The main issue I had is that there isn't any table where you could sit down and have a breath of fresh air (or a cigarette). There is a hotel bar just outside, but you are not allowed to sit down without ordering something!? That was pointed out to us by waiter mr. Dalibor (not in a nice manner). That alone took one or two points from my overall rating.

We were really looking forward to last night of holidays in a 5 star hotel. I have no idea why 5 stars as overall nothing like the hotels we had been staying in for the previous week - a few of which were only 4 star! Reception staff were efficient, porter very friendly and helpful. In the bar and breakfast restaurant it was difficult to obtain service and once we had ordered a long wait. The main disappointment is that the hotel is connected to 3 other Hotels and they share spa and pool facilities. Consequently instead of the luxurious spa we were expecting it was a bit more like the public baths. The decor was old fashioned and restaurant set out with masses of chairs in rows like the huge communist hotels pre the fall of the Berlin wall. Breakfast was plentiful but both my husband and I came back with empty plates! Moreover this hotel was double what we had paid for any other in the previous week.

a good location,across from the beach

The hotel is older, but maintained. They have free internet in the room and free parking. The hotel has a private beach area and cards supplied by the hotel can be utilized for towels, chairs etc. on the beach.The staff is helpful explaining nearby sights such as Piran an interesting town on the water and easy to reach by bus (10 mins) away.The hotel has a very large breakfast that has a variety of items, as well as, a chef who will cook egg items to your taste. The breakfast staff is very attentive. There is a large spa and indoor pool area that has multiple pools and a water fall.The only items we wouldd like is a coffee pot in the room and an ice bucket. The bar however will gladly supply the ice and a bucket.This hotel like others in Solvenia does not supply hair conditioner or wash cloths.

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Portoroz for 6 nights. The front desk staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean and the food is fine. Breakfast has wide selection of items, including rolled oats and soymilk. The spa section is great as well.

Das Hotel ist schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen, die Möbel sind altbacken, der Fernseher mini, der Geruch der Zimmer geht so. Die Matratzen sind durchgelegen. Es gibt nicht einmal Wasser gratis im Zimmer. Das Frühstück ist gut, allerdings keine 4 Sterne. In der Nebensaison bis 15.3. gibt es einige Gratis Parkplätze in der Stadt in Laufnähe, ansonsten ist die Parkplatzsituation angespannt (und teuer). Toll ist der \"Pool\", Gäste haben Zugang zur Therme mit hervorragendem Thermalwasser aus dem Urmeer. Leider kostet die Sauna extra, auch für Hotelgäste!!

Das Hotel befindet sich in erster Linie im Zentrum der Stadt Portoroz mit einem ausgezeichneten Spa. Parkplatz 12 Euro pro Tag.
Gut ausgestatteter Strand, bequemer Zugang zum Meer.

Das Personal an der Rezeption ist nicht besonderes gut vorbereitet, weshalb eine Reihe von Missverständnissen entstanden wäre.
Das Personal des Hotels spricht überwiegend Englisch, nur ein par können Deutsch sprechen.

Hotel veramente bello, la piscina non è caldissima, però si sta bene. L'area sauna e wellness è veramente magnifica, consiglio a tutti di visitarla, c'è anche un percorso di saune molto bello e innovativo da fare. Personale davvero disponibile e camere eccellenti: grandi, pulite e accoglienti.

Hotel in cui siamo ritornati dopo una decina d'anni (all'epoca era 5 stelle, oggi 4); il tempo è passato: dieci anni fa era un hotel di lusso per l'epoca, oggi è rimasto fermo senza innovazioni; il viaggio era per motivi di svago; abbiamo optato per servizio di mezza pensione; la cena era tutta a Buffett con solo 2 primi fatti al momento. Qualità dei prodotti non sempre di ottima qualità. Servizio dei camerieri a volte molto efficiente, a volte \"distratti\". Molto buona la frutta, mentre i dolci da lasciar perdere. Molto valide le stanze con materassi comodi e servizio camere molto efficiente. Posizione dell'hotel molto favorevole; servizio spiaggia a pagamento. In generale il soggiorno è stato discreto ma le aspettative, vuoi per i ricordi, vuoi per la classe di Hotel, avrebbero potuto essere di maggior gratificazione.

Fin indtjekning, blev under indtjekning gjort opmærksom på at der ikke var pool på hotellet som beskrevet. Man skulle bruge pool på et andet hotel, poolen var lille og meget overfyldt.
Maden på hotellet var ok men ikke særlig varieret..

Buon hotel, check-in veloce, usufruito del parcheggio poco distante. Bella camera con vista, con balcone. Terme a pagamento raggiungibili dall'interno, bella la zona piscina di acqua marina. Terrazza solarium, oppure sdraio di fronte al mare. Ottima colazione. Ci torneremo

Non è la prima volta che soggiorniamo in questo hotel. Ottime terme, ottimo centro benessere. Colazione abbondante, stanza pulita, zone comuni molto belle(bar, hall...). Noi abbiamo soggiornato in una standard, ci siamo trovati bene anche se sarebbe utile rinnovarle. Mi piacerebbe in futuro trovare un bollitore.

Das Hotel liegt schön an der Promenade, das Wellnessangebot ist sehr gut durch die Anbindung mehrere Hotels, sodass durch Übergänge jeweils Hallenbäder etc. benützt werden konnten
Das einzige was nicht zufriedenstellend war, ist das Abendessen
Für Kinder gab es beim Buffet wenig Auswahl, keine Pommes, schön hergerichtet, aber geschmacklich nicht 4 Sterne würdig
Der Preis für die Aufzahlung HP war aber auch nicht sehr hoch, also muss man das wahrscheinlich in Kauf nehmen
Das Frühstück war in Ordnung, und auch schön gestaltet

What was good: Great location, the pools are great, out of the usual hotel pools league (opening hours from 7am to 9pm, good). Breakfast is nice, plenty of options to choose from, check-in was ok. Small chocolate in the room as a present 👍. The front-desk lady was friendly during check-in. This is where the nice stuff ends.

What I’d like to be improved: Fruit juices at the breakfast are poor quality, especially the orange juice. Fitness centre is closed until 3pm! So forget about a morning workout - if you arrive in the evening and stay for only one night, forget about the fitness centre completely (I wonder why do they even have it). Check-out was horrible, very slow, people waiting in the line, forget about leaving fast in the morning. Hotel parking was full (but fortunately we were able to find a spot for free around - above the hotel parking lot). There are no towels to use for free at the pool that I could see (you have to take the towels from your room).

Questa è stata la seconda volta che abbiamo soggiornato qui. Con questa affermazione la mia recensione potrebbe già finire: se siamo ritornati vuole dire che è una valida soluzione. Relax completo. Ottima posizione. Camere perfette. Buona cena, ottima colazione e personale disponibile. Consiglio vivamente. Il parcheggio è la sola nota negativa che è stato un po' scomodo trovare, ma dipende molto dal momento e noi siamo andati nel periodo più affollato. Sicuramente torneremo.

First day no Wifi in the room due to a technical problem - which was pretty bad. Hotel then gave us an upgrade to a suite for our second day (we had only two days). Very nice!

Sehr schönes Hotel und toller Service!

Wir waren übers Wochenende in diesem Hotel. Das Wetter war zwar nicht besonders gut (Oktober), jedoch wurde dies durch das tolle Hotel wieder wettgemacht :-). Toller Service, saubere Zimmer und super Frühstück!

Hotel gradevole nell'aspetto, in alcune parti un pò datato(porte del bagno...)ma comunque bello, pulito e sanificato. Piscine bellissime, trattamenti all'altezza. Personale gentile. Colazione ottima. Nota negativa:ho pagato 5 giorni di parcheggio, ma solo due volte l'abbiamo potuto usare perché semore pueno. Non lo trovi corretto.

Kein Grand Hotel.

Wegen Preis und Selbstdarstellung hätte ich gedacht, dass es nach dem Kempinski das beste Haus am Platz wäre. Aber nein - es ist eine Familien-Bettenburg wie die anderen dort. Überall 80er Jahre Teppichboden, Massenabfertigung in Schichten beim Frühstück. Natürlich auch gute Seiten, wie den kostenlosen Parkplatz und den (corona - eingeschränkten) Thermen Zugang. Aber eben bei weitem nicht Grand und deswegen auch zu teuer.

... wenn die Klimaanlage funktioniert hätte......

Es war ein durchaus gelungener Urlaub in einem Hotel in perfekter Lage, wunderbarem Strandabschnitt mit grandiosen Strandliegen und großem Verwöhnbuffet zum Frühstück, allerdings waren 2 Dinge unentschulbar katastrophal - die Klimaanlage funktionierte überhaupt nicht (auch keine Besserung nach unserer Reklamation!) und der Kühlschrank der Minibar war eher eine Heizung denn eine Kühleinrichtung.

Familienhotel am Meer, leider war ich in einem nicht renovierten Zimmer untergebracht. Charme der 1980er aber bequemes Doppelbett.

Upgrade mit 20,-Euro pro Tag zu teuer, keine Information im Vorhinein, dass sea spa in der Zeit geschlossen ist, hellhörig zum Nebenzimmer (mit Verbindunfstür), Pool Anlage zu kühl

La reception per niente ospitale nell'offerta avtemmo avuto l'ingresso alla Spa per ogni servizio tranne chiaramente per i trattamenti invece ci hanno consegnato dei braccialetti che consentivano l'ingresso solo alla piscins e alla palestra non si e' potuto accedere alla sauna per esempio. Inoltre non ci volevano neanche date il parcheggio e poi la pulizia molto superficiale e la cucina inadatta a tutti i gusti
