The hotel is very central in the main town of Siracusa. Plenty of good restaurants on the doorstep and only ten minute walk from the station. Ortigia only a 15 minute walk away. The bathroom facilities and room decor are slightly old fashioned but all working fine.

Charming Sicilian Hotel within walking distance to bustling Ortiga. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby. Friendly staff and delicious daily breakfast with made to order cafe. Located on a busy route with cars and motorcycles revving all night. No A/C so window had to be open. Mosquito bites, poor sleep, modest breakfast. Desk staff were meh, and maintenance person was not much use. Breakfast crew were attentive.

Well staff are excellent so is lobby and breakfast I had a roof on third floor with no window but a door with metal stairs leading up to a porthole or something like balcony ! It started vibrating In wind at night and water started flooding the room floor ! I had a terrible night as it rained and blew all night ! I love the staff at reception and the dining area but why this room is even in use only hotel knows it’s disgraceful and disgusting for a four star hotel ! But from previous experiences I know hotels com won’t do anything about it ! What a shame as hotel com used to be efficient once

Perfect location - easy walk to/from the Siracusa railway station and to Ortigia. Nice restaurants (Agape recommended) nearby. Very good breakfast. The main road was very very noisy - Get a room that is not facing the main road. We were 1st floor - could be quieter higher up?

I very much enjoyed my stay at this wonderful hotel . The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast staff was impeccable and the breakfast was excellent ! Housekeeping made sure all your needs were met. The location was perfect. I took the Interbus from Catania Airport and got off at there last stop which was a short and easy walk ( with 2 pieces of luggage ) . Ortigia was also a short walk over the bridge to explore. Many walkable things to do in opposite direction as well. Plenty of restaurants nearby ( must try the Indian restaurant across from hotel ) . Definitely recommend staying at this Hotel.

Good hotel within walking distance to Ortigia. Nice breakfasts. The public parking lot (15 Euros per day) is a few blocks away. Our room was nice and large with comfortable beds. Staff were courteous, friendly, and helpful. We'd preferred to have had more lights in the room. Shower stall needed updating. There was a shortage of surface area and closet space in the room and the bathroom to unpack you stuff.

The Grande Albergo Alfeo gave personalized service and attention that is uncommon. The room was beautiful and clean. A 3 minute walk across the bridge to the old town of Syracuse. Highly recommended -- we've already scheduled and booked our return to Syracuse next week.

Very chaotic. Water heater is not working and only moderately warm water came out. The bath tub is dirty. I dont know whether the tap water of the hotel is drinkable or not but it does has a strange taste. I am a Gold member of Hotels.com but the staff seems to know nothing about it and the benefits that the hotel provided to us. Breakfast is also chaotic as there is basically no staff there to serve you food and you have to wait.The only positive about the hotel is the staff seems to be really nice.

Nice hotel but room for improvement

Reception staff could be more friendly when we checked-in. It would also be better if the rooms had kettles for making tea etc. I had to ask receptionist for a kettle and there was only one in the breakfast room, so I wasn’t able to use in my room. Otherwise the room was quite comfortable and clean.

2nd stay, same unhelpful staff

started the stay with an argument at reception as our bed allocation was wrong (1 king instead of 2 beds for friends). Instead of seeking a solution silently the receptionist just said, we dont have 2 beds available. This wasn't the case as i stood my ground and miraculously a bedroom appeared. Hotels.com are partially to blame as all 4 hotels on my visit didnt have the correct information. Despite this, some training in the art of customer service wouldnt go a miss with this receptionist.

Friendly, otherwise efficient front desk staff that ignored my complaints about my neighbor's clothesline in his balcony (I guess in Siracuse is a behavior tollerated in a four stars hotel) Spartian breakfast served by a team of waiters working like a swiss clock. A Serious Malfunction

Arrived to hotel, apparently the elevator, phone and wifi was not working due to lightning from a storm earlier in the morning. Hotel still had electricity otherwise. When we got to our room we noticed that the AC was not working. After telling the staff they said they would look at it and fix it while we were out. After coming back from our outing, the AC was still not fixed and it didn't seem like anyone had shown up to look at it. After calling the front desk the staff insisted that there was nothing wrong with the AC unit. It wasn't until 11pm that they finally sent a staff member to look at the AC unit. We were then told that the AC unit had a serious malfunction and that it was definitely broken. He said that certain AC units were not working, others were. What's upsetting is that this was probably knowledge to the entire staff however, they passed it off to us as if nothing was wrong nor did anyone issue an apology. We were able to switch rooms the next day. However, the elevator and wifi was still not working.

This really was a grand hotel for a small price - huge rooms, high ceilings, great AC, great breakfast - and a 5 min walk to Ortigia (which was magical). Street Parking was easy - and free.

We had a walk-in shower which helped on the hot Sicilian summer day - as did the complementary granita.

We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again

We really enjoyed the Grand Albergo Alfeo hotel. It was comfortable, clean, has modern conveniences, and is well-run. Someone was at the front desk at all times and that individual was able to give us answers to just about any question we asked. There is a convenient, not-tha-expensive, public outdoor parking lot available. Extensive choice of food available for the hotel breakfast. The hotel is within a 10 minute walk of Oritigia, the bridge-connect island which is the \"old town\" area of Syracuse. Lovely shops, central square, art museums, cathedral, great, small restaurants. On the \"mainland\" the major and beautiful archeological site is a long, but doable, walk from the hotel. Ancient, beautiful amphitheatre, and caves.

The property claims free parking. That is a bit disingenuous. Free parking is available on the road near the hotel....if you can get it. There is a public car park very close by for 10 Euros for 24 hours. To claim free parking is misleading.
Having said that it’s an excellent hotel, room was large clean and comfortable and the staff very helpful and friendly. I would stay there again

So so ... we felt the staff could not care less if were there or not .... clean room, internet worked, breakfast ok, .... just no service ...the lights were burnt out if hall where are room was situated, we requested a new bulb and were told it would be changed, and nothing happened, needed to see where to put our key in the key hole, so we used our iPhone,s flashlight because the hotel did nothing .... lots of little things like that .., so the hotel gets a 5 out of 10

Sayed 3 nights and my vacations was spoiled by hotel. I changed rooms twice so checked 3 rooms and all was very bad. First room has terrible odour from shower tub and hotel can’t fixed it. I changed room and didn’t get any compensation. Second room has view to very small back courtyard and I heard well all terrible sounds from the other washrooms, which was delivered directly right to my room. Third room has a view to the main courtyard and there was noisy till 11.40 pm and then - till 1.30 am! - staff noisily moved tables and chairs. So no relax, no good sleeping. Avoid this hotel.

Fine older hotel, with sparkling clean rooms, and a good breakfast. Restaurant not open while we were there, hosting private events, but many many restaurants in a ten minute walking radius. No parking, but we found street parking nearby, and there is a large lot 5 minutes walk away.

A 'grand' hotel very near historic Ortegia.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel surpassed our expectations for one so reasonably priced. The room was quiet, despite being near a fairly busy road. It was spacious too and had a balcony with good views of the area. The bathroom was spacious and shower easy to use. The dining room was light, spacious and airy and had a very good selection of foods for breakfast. The lounge had complimentary hot drinks in and was rarely used, but my travelling buddy and I enjoyed relaxing there. There was a useful 'supermarket' nearby. Also bus stops. The station was only an 8 minute walk away and the trains ran to time, unlike the buses! It took less than 10 minutes to walk into the historic area of Ortegia where there was much of interest to see and photograph. The archaeological zone was in Syracuse was a 15 minute bus ride from the hotel and the bus only cost 1 euro! We viewed both a Greek and Roman amphitheatre there and also had a 45 minute tour of the underground catacombs. The hotel and it's situation surpassed our expectations and we would definitely recommend it! :)

Hotel in Siracusa

After a few attempts to negotiate the one way streets in Siracusa, and directions from the Hotel staff we were able to park our rental car a short walk away in the secure parking lot (at a very reasonable rate) for the duration of our stay in this charming old city.
The hotel was excellent , as were all the helpful staff . Lovely rooms, amazing breakfast buffet . Located walking distance to the bridges that take you to the small historical Island of Ortigia , where we spent the whole of the next day just walking ,experiencing it`s energy , ruins and beautiful buildings.
Ortigia has lots of shops , street markets and small restaurants .We watched many people swimming in the Mediterranean and sunbathing on the small beaches located between its rocky coves,

CONSIDERING THE 4STAR RATING THIS HOTEL GETS WE CONSIDER IT AVERAGE AT BEST AND DISGUSTING AT WORST. THE ROOM ALLOCATED TO US INITIALLY WAS SMALL AND AVERAGE , BUT THE SHOWER IN THE BATHROOM WAS FRIGHTENING. I HAVE PHOTOS TO SHOW THE DIRT AROUND ALL 4 SIDES OF THE CUBICLE WAS OBVIOUSLY THE RESULT OF NOT BEING CLEANED IN ANY WAY FOR MONTHS. YOU COULD HAVE PICKED IT UP WITH YOUR FINGER, IN FACT I DID. NOT JUST THE NORMAL STAINING AND DARKENING OF SEALANT WHICH YOU EXPECT GENERALLY BUT BLACK SCUM. I ASSUME NO-ONE HAD STAYED IN THE ROOM FOR MONTHS OR IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CLEANED AT SOME POINT. ON OUR INSISTENCE THEY RELUCTANTLY GAVE US A DIFFERENT ROOM, AFTER CHECKING THE FIRST ROOM, WHICH WAS BIGGER AND CLEANER AND FOR WHICH OBVIOUSLY THEY DIDNT CHARGE EXTRA, BUT NO APOLOGY, JUST MILD IRRITATION THAT WE RAISED THE PROBLEM. WE WERE ANNOYED, BUT NOT SURPRISED, WHEN ON CHECKING OUT WE HAD TO PAY THE LOCAL TAXES WITH NO ADJUSTMENT FOR INCONVENIENCE. OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS OK, BUT NOT FOR 4 STAR. NO NEWSPAPERS OF ANY KIND, CERTAINLY NOT ENGLISH, ABYSMAL TV SERVICE. EVERY SHOPPING CHANNEL AVAILABLE BUT NOT ONE INTERNATIONAL STATION AS IN MOST HOTELS ABROAD. NOT EVEN A WORKING TV IN THE 'LOUNGE'. ALSO THE INTERNET FACILITY IN THE LOBBY WAS PRIMITIVE, SLOW AND USELESS. WI FI IN THE ROOM WAS OK MOSTLY. we had enjoyable trip. Our room was comfortable and had an exterior staircase to small balcony. Breakfast was good with fresh fruit and plenty of pastries.
Hotel was in handy position a short walk to Ortiga and also a quiet area.
Only negative was there wasnt any information about hotel in room and hairdryer kept falling apart. All staff were pleasant and helpful.

Very happy with my 2 nights stay at the Alfeo. The location is excellent, with both Ortygia and the Syracuse train/bus stations within walking distance.
My room was comfortable and clean. Of course, other hotels offer rooms with views and balcony, but frankly, I was only there to sleep and spent most of the day outside. The bed was extremely comfortable, the AC wasn't too noisy, the area was quiet enough, there was free wifi, the bathroom was functional end there was a safe. For me it ticks all the boxes with regards to the room. My only gripe was that I didn't figure out how to control the AC, it was too strong for my taste; I solved the problem by switching it off for the night and sleep with the windo open.
I only had breakfast at the hotel. It was FANTASTIC. The best breakfast I've had while in Sicily. Never found ricotta filled croissants in a hotel again, despite looking for them.
Service was friendly and attentive. I'm not a guest who needs much assistance, but all my queries at reception or in the restaurant were answered promptly.
I would definitely consider staing there again on a future trip to Syracuse.

City centre hotel close to amenities

Hotel has a grand setting with a good location (but a little shabbiness with very old and worn rugs in lounge and carpets in the halls - not sure if these were meant to be that way - as the hotel has obviously been refurbished in recent years). Staff were pleasant and overall helpful. Breakfast was standard - but with a good selection of pastries. Rooms were clean, of a decent size and with air conditioning. Negatives were en-suite bathrooms without windows and without a working extractor fan - so retained smell of damp (although bathroom facilities were good and bath had a jacuzzi). No coffee/tea making facilities - but a small fridge with refreshments in the rooom, and granite on tap in the hotel lounge.
Parking our hire car was sometimes a problem - especially at the weekend in the evenings.

Great location, staff and comfort

Great location, easy walking distance to see the sights. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The bed was soft per US standards and we had a small view of the water. The room was very large and the wifi worked great. I would stay here again.

A VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE!

Hotel was great. Maybe the best value of all in our trip to Sicily. Only a few blocks to the bridges over to Ortigia. Initial impression of neighborhood is not great, but just that the old buildings in this area could use a coat of paint. Not a bproblem at all. Great breakfast! Friendly, helpful staff!

Best of two worlds

The hotel is located right outside of Ortigia. U can walk there in ten minutes. Easy to park by the hotel then access the old town. The room is spacious in Italy standard. The only room to improve is 1) no cofffee machine, 2) the breakfast is average, not bad, but not 4 star in my book. Small details. Overall a very nice stay.

We stayed in this hotel for our anniversary and we're very pleased to have been upgraded to a suite on our arrival.
The staff were lovely, and breakfast was excellent.
Granted it's on a busy road and it's very difficult to park but the location to Ortigia was great.
Restaurants on Ortigia were excellent.
I would recommend staying here.

Nice Room Centrally Located

The hotel was conveniently located halfway between the central railway station and the island of Ortigia. The staff were friendly and efficient. The room was spacious and well appointed and the breakfast buffet was excellent. Very happy with my stay here.

Hotel close to Ortega

Great location close to Ortega and good cafes. Within 5 minute walk to Ortega which has good views and cafes. Best breakfast at hotel.

Located just off Ortigia, but easy walk. They upgraded us. Tall ceilings. Nicely decorated. Thank goodness, an elevator. Very nice breakfast including baby Cannolis.

We only stayed one night in Siracusa as we were making our way through Sicily. I would definitely come back to this hotel. It has a great central location, and there are many restaurants and shops a walkable distance away.

Good location but...

The location is great, although parking in the side streets is too difficult as there are many one way streets. We parked in the boat terminal, which was only a block away. It's a short walk to Ortigia, which was great and very convenient. Front desk staff were very helpful. We ate dinner at the restaurant, which was fairly average. Staff at both dinner and breakfast seemed more interested in their phones than serving guests. Our room was large and comfy, although the floor seemed quite dirty as our feet got black from walking on the floor. We were also missing a tv remote (which the front desk replaced when we asked), and there was a very strong smell of urine in our bathroom, like someone had done a wee in the spa while it was on. We would possibly stay here again, as it is an excellent location if you're driving.

A convenient mix of old and new

We had a very good rate for this hotel so I was concerned that the pictures were better than the reality. The smell of cleaning solutions in the lobby seemed initially to confirm my concern. However, the hotel is very nice. It is an old building but the rooms have been redone in contemporary style. Its a mix of old and new. It is not on the island but its is only a few minutes away on foot. This makes for a very extremely convenient location. The breakfast is also good as is the staff.
