We ate breakfast in the hotel restaurant and it was lovely. The wait staff was polite and friendly. We also had evening cocktails there, and Don the server was so nice.
Receptionists David and Eric were most helpful, and the shuttle drivers, Mike and Pete were amazing! We used the shuttle often because of them... great perk! The room was spacious and clean. Thank you for a terrrific stay! We will all be back next year!

The room was surprisingly underwhelming. For a supposed posh resort, the room was not as expected. The window in the room was unable to be opened as it had no screen and the sash appeared broken. The ac had to be turned on as a result and it roared the whole night. Not much sleep was attained. The staff were welcoming. But the stay was very disappointing. Will not stay there again.

We looked forward to returning to this hotel for the third time in grand part looking forward to sitting in front of the two large fireplaces in the lobby in the evening. They were not working. When we arrived the computer wasn’t working and we had to wait to check in. The first day our room wasn't on the list to clean. When we returned, the room was as we had left it. This was rectified. Also the amount collected at hotel was listed as $96 for resort fee and they charged $100 to my card. The hotel in general was not what it used to be. That was disappointing.

As I mentioned in my earlier check-in review, they advertise for 11-4pm checkin but if you arrive earlier than 4pm you have to pay $25 or $50 in order to check in earlier!That is ridiculous! Plus their resort fee was $30 per day and it wasn’t worth what you get.
Their breakfast offers were only an overpriced buffet and no regular breakfast offerings, even though they had menus displayed to lead you to believe you had another option. They really need more to offer their clients. I will never stay there again! Having stayed in the past, it was truly disappointing.

We’ve been going to the Gideon Putnam happily for a decade and this last visit was a sad portrait of the state of this place. Poor, shockingly indifferent staff if you can find them. Room was infested with bugs, and management barely seemed to care or respond to it in a professional manner. The park is lovely, the grounds worth visiting, do NOT book at the hotel- there’s dozens of options in the area I’d encourage you to find. We basically fled the place early. Terrible and disappointing in the extreme.

Hair in sink,water stains on ceiling in bathroom,tub doesn't drain properly, molding under heat pulled away from wall. A terrible shame a beautiful historic hotel is not kept up. A $30 resort fee? No breakfast offered. Unless your looking to play golf,don't bother!

The location and grounds were beautiful but the room was dark and smelled moldy. It was located on the upper floor, with no elevator to that level. We went to the pool, which we thought we had free access to but we would need wristbands from the front desk, which should have been given to us when we checked in.

This hotel was the perfect choice for attending a conference in the Saratoga Springs Spa Park. I could easily walk to all events. All staff were friendly and helpful.The particular first floor room had a horrible partial view of the HVAC units, but I didn't really care as I was there for business, not a honeymoon or romantic weekend. The room was so nice, spacious, and comfortable. Best of all really nice sheets & responsive air conditioner temperature controls!

The Gideon is an old hotel with character. The room was spacious but the bathroom was not great. Didn’t feel very clean. The shampoo and amenities were almost empty.
The buttons were worn down on the air conditioning unit so it was difficult to adjust. The bed was comfortable. The coffee in the lobby was great. The shuttle bus service was wonderful. We never used our car.

The house keeping staff needs to be retrained, as does at least one person at the front desk. My wife and I arrived a short while after 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2025. We were assigned a King Deluxe room on the 2nd floor. The bathroom wall along the tub was replete with mold. We complained about the mold and we were given a King Deluxe room on the 2nd floor. That room had a similar problem, although less mold. When I complained about it and asked for a room that did not have a mold problem, I was told by a female (short brown-black hair) at the front desk that there were no more rooms available & that it was an old hotel so things like that should be expected. She also said that she has first seen the room and it wasn't so bad - that she is allergic to mold and would have had a reaction if it was a real problem. She said she had no reaction. I stated that regardless of whether the hotel is old or not, it should not have a mold issue, that it was a real problem, and that if she would get me some Clorox and a scrub brush, I would take care of the problem. I was told that a maintenance person would be sent to the room to take care of the issue. The maintenance person arrived about 1/2 hour later and remedied the problem with bleach, as I requested. The problem was bad enough that it took him 1/2 hour to scrub away the mold. I told the same female at the front desk about this. There was no apology and nothing offered for the inconvenience. Very diasappointing!

NO hot tub or pool to be seen at the hotel, website misleading, there is a public spa and pool at a different location with additional charges and in our case booked out our ONLY amenity was the bar.. disappointing. The room 508 layout was odd. I tripped on the step going into the room. Window didn’t open, it was taped shut with duct tape. Fitness center was hard to find. The only reason to stay here is if you are a guest at the spa and need a place to sleep not much to offer. Breakfast was fantastic but it wasn’t complementary. The bar staff was very friendly, but that’s really all I can say.

Considering what a beautiful property and otherwise perfect experience at the Gideon Putnam Resort and Spa, a new chef would be a deal changer! The cod fish we ordered was still cold inside and the food overall was terrible. And despite the breathtaking property, the hall leading to Victoria pool and bathroom were unkept and dirty. We will be back though!!!!

It’s really beautiful as you enter- high ceilings and cozy couches. The halls are wide and airy. The rooms were recently painted it seems, but ai did find someone’s contact on the corner of the bathroom sink. Also, the bathroom drain was very slow. You can see the age of the building with the old built in toothbrush holder and soap dish and those areas need attention- the caulking is starting to come up. The lack of bathroom fan means an open window- these have got to be pretty old- they are camped with layers of paint, but they do work!
It’s a fun, atmospheric place to stay, but it’s by no means 5 stars

Everything above was wonderful except for a BIG thing!! When we looked out of our bedroom window, ( room 212) the view was a dirty roof top !! That was not a pleasant sight! considering the cost of the room for one night was over $400!!!!!!!!!!

Quiet, beautiful, timeless and historic propery. Loved the hotel shuttle to the racetrack and downtown area. It would be great if the shuttle ran a little later to accomodste those with later dinner reservations.
There is a resturant on property fir breakfast and dinner. Only a buffet breakfast was offered suggest more options for tjisr who want a lighter option.
Free passes to Victoria pool wich is about a 3 minute walk. Hotel also provides towrls for the pool but you have to ask
Overall recommend and enjoyed my stsy eben uf a bit pricy

if you are going to talk the talk...you better walk the walk...broken elevator we were taken to our room by the kitchen elevator. Room view of a roof bad enough...but construction debris couldnt be swept up? Rotted window sills....bathroom tiles white wash painted. Not what you would expect from a high dollar high end hotel

The staff at the front desk are very nice and helpful enough, and that's where my positive review ends. From a previous stay, I remember the rooms were older, but I had read on the hotel website and elsewhere that they did a renovation-- not sure where, however, as our room was horrible. the smallest room, with a dormer to give it more \"airiness\". It was very hot while we were there this weekend so the A/C needed to be on but truly it made the room worse. The humidity in the room was unbearable and the musty, wet smell from the older unit was disgusting. The carpet in the room was frayed and coming up between the bedroom area and bathroom. Oh, and the bathroom-- smaller than a water closet but includes the shower, toilet, sink and a radiator. There is a sign saying that the bathroom is the \"original styling,\" which could be charming but in this case it's just old, run down, and DIRTY. Only cleaned where you can easily see, not anywhere else - see photos. They had clearly reglazed the tile, but failed to do so behind the toilet and in other places it was chipping off. I didn't even want to put my feet down on the floor.
The hotel's check in check out policy is also crazy. Check-in at 4, check out at 11, which means not even getting 24 hours in the room. We asked for early check in, which we needed as we were going to an event, which the hotel granted at a cost of $60, which also seems absurd plus they charged $100 resort fee-- what resort? We Got Nothing for that fee.

Nice hotel that we’ve been to several times We had to wait until after 5PM to access our room but when we asked for a 15 minute check out extension, we were told no. We had dinner one night at the hotel and waited an hour after our order was placed. Gideon Putnam charges. $30/day amenities fee for the pool and the shuttle. We used neither but still required paying. The elevator was out of order except for a few hours of our stay. We were on the upper floor and had to wait for a staff member to bring us up and down in the service elevator.

Old hotel. Very nice though. Hotel was costly for a weekend but was comparable with other hotels in that area for the same weekend. Traveling to Saratoga Springs during horse race season is pricey.

Best perk for this hotel is that if you are seeing a show at SPAC, you can tailgate on the grounds and walk a few hundred feet to show. Its location is what gives it value.
