Arrival was traumatic. Property was poorly signposted and unlit so I drove past. The forecourt was so dark I had to use the light on my phone to get from my car to the door. The man who checked me in gave hurried and unclear instructions and did not take time to answer my questions or show me how things worked. The room was clean but shabby, with some wallpaper beginning to peel. The toilet was cramped, the shower only ran at one heat setting and the hairdryer was broken. The bed and the breakfast were ok so I could sleep and eat but overall not a pleasant experience.

large premises with nice grounds, good location for Cathedral etc, seems the General Manager ovesees most tasks , The room #1 was clean but could fo land we could leave cases in room ahead of the official check in time. It fell apart however with the evening meal which we did not enjoy. The GM wore scruffy paint splattered trousers and this was distracting , years ago it was the diners who were encouraged to dress a bit smart, which we did in those days. the lamb was tough and the veg. hard, Manager and my husband disagreed on the quality of the food, to be to be honest He left most of it. rather wish we had gone to a pub ,,

The Nyton is an older property, and has all the problems that come with that. Our host was very amenable, and the food was A1. Our room was big enough and the bed was very comfortable. The garden is large and there are several animal visitors to watch for. Fine for a stopover or short stay.

Ideal location for Graduation at Ely Cathedral

The room was clean and comfortable with all the necessities you need when on first arrival. This also included a lovely cooked breakfast with the option on preferences for how you wanted certain breakfast items cooked. It was a 10 minute walk to the Cathedral and an ideal location for my wifes Graduation that we had at the weekend. And it being central to all the local amenities, would definitely stay again and visit the town centre and shops in the near future.

No one was there to let us in when we arrived - in the end of a guest had to. The lobby stank of weed. The locks on one of our rooms didn't work, and the walls were paper thin - we could hear people watching TV from several rooms away.

Room and whole of the building in desperate need of updating and decorating. Sprung bed frame very noisy, no door handle on outside of door so had to let it slam to close. Very small tv, needed binoculars to see it. Mould in bathroom. Breakfast was the oy highlight.

Return stay at the Nyton

We all enjoyed our stay and were well looked after by Robert at the Nyton. The breakfast was great with lots of choice...not only Full English on the menu e.g Porridge and Smoked Haddock. The large garden is fabulous with lots of seating areas and trees. Location is good 10 mins walk to Ely Cathedral and the Train Station.

The hotel/ guest house is in need of refurbishment. The bathroom shower had a nasty smell, so we had to keep the door closed. In order to fill the kettle a large plastic jug is provided which hangs in the shower. Some sockets did not work.
On the plus side, the breakfast was lovely, and when I asked if they had a magnifying mirror one was quickly found.
Ely is lovely, and the hotel is well situated.

Didn’t actually stay although we were booked. The condition of the ‘hotel’ was such that we felt uncomfortable due to the untidiness and clutter everywhere which would make it impossible to clean to meet covid recommendations. The rooms we were offered had a distinct offensive smell. The fabric of the building was also uninviting.

Quirky and lovely hotel in central Battle

Quirky and lovely little hotel in central Battle. You couldn't be more central if you tried. Room perfectly adequate and comfortable. What sets this hotel apart is the restaurant with great home-cooked food with locally sourced ingredients - great food and served by lovely people who really care about their hotel, staff and food. No need to eat anywhere else. We'll stay here again.

Character, charm and individuality (the very opposite of a bland chain hotel) with a welcoming and helpful owner. Quiet, surrounded by trees in its own large garden, and even a bird feeder—in other words, a real place. An excellent breakfast; how nice to encounter good ingredients and cooking. Unfortunately I arrived to a damp and slightly dirty room at the top of the guest house. My glass by the sink had clearly not been cleaned from the last occupant which was a little concerning in a covid-world.

It was lovely having an en-suite, but having to crouch down in the shower to fit wasn’t ideal. I’m by no means a tall man - it was just a very small shower!

Breakfast was fantastic and the service was brilliant - it was just a shame that the room and bathroom was so small!

Location was great for getting into Ely.

This hotel has great potential but in need of restoration to its original glory and an upgrade of guest facilities.
The one night I needed a good sleep I, and other guests, were woken at 2:30am by a drunken guy coming back and trying to get into his room, failed and then tried mine.

The staff at the Nyton were very helpful. The room itself was quite small but adequate size for our one night trip. The bathroom was very small and the shower wasn’t the best but I wouldn’t want this to put anyone off the Nyton. The breakfast was sublime and served in an old fashioned hall which gave a good vibe. Located just a short 10 minute walk from the Centre of Ely and the cathedral I would recommend this place if you’re visiting the city.

No specific issues however not what I would consider a 4 star rating. 3 star at best. I had a single room which was outdated and very basic. Service was good.
I wouldn't stay here again based on the rating simply because it wasn't what I expected.
In fairness I did book late in the day so my arrival was perhaps unexpected.

POOR!! no way a 4 star...

When I arrived the receptionist was also decorating the hallway, blocking the entrance on a dodgy looking ladder.... no safety signs present.
She didnt seem to know how to work the booking system and it took some time to get into my room.
the whole hotel was dark, dingey, dated and damp.
I would say it was very clean either.
also the bar was closed throughout our stay.
Once in my room, the beds were small and uncomfortable, the tv was smaller than my phone, the bathroom was dated, no water pressure and mould around the windows. as well as cobwebs everywhere.
wifi signal was poor
we didnt even risk breakfast, was to scared.
if there were availability in another hotel I would have left!!
this is in no way a 4 star as they claim.... i would struggle to give it 2 at best.

Ely is a beautiful place, we went up last weekend for the OU graduation ceremony. The Nyton hotel was comfortable, clean and steady the food was really good. No luxuries but everything that you would want. The manager was very attentive and accommodating.

Really frustrating car park. Difficult to negotiate with a vehicle from the owners making access even more challenging. My son caught the side of his car, as many others had obviously done in the past. So upsetting. Was looking forward to this stopover but it was a frustrating experience.

Didn't see anyone on reception the whole time i was there! My key was on reception when I arrived but the place was in darkness. Still no one there when I went out, came back or when I checked out the next day. Bar was closed the evening I stayed there, was hoping for a beer before I went out that night. Breakfast room also deserted the next morning, was served after waiting there for a good five minutes. Full English was nice, but beans not that hot and server never returned with my requested ketchup! Was not warm enough to wait for it. In summary - nice enough hotel, good location to walk into Ely, plenty of parking, nice area but acute lack of staff on reception and behind the bar.

Great position. Great Breakfast. That is as far as it goes. Never worth 4 stars or even 3. Had everything, but not everything worked. Bar never open. Evening meals never on. Bedroom tiny. TV postage stamp size. Bathroom so small toilet was side-saddle. Water trickled through taps. Paid far too much - expected a really nice 4 star for the money - wrong !

Disappointing for such a lovely location.

We checked in here just before 8pm, there was no-one about, even the telephone number left just rang out. Room key left for us, the room was warm and very pokey, the bathroom was so cramped you could brush your teeth whilst sitting on the toilet. Worst of all the althe water pressure in the room was a dribble.

There were only two things going for this location, the cooked breakfast and the proximity to the lovely city centre of Ely.

When we can to leave at 10am again there was no-one about :-( shame I couldn’t give this feedback in person, and that we had already paid in advance.

I arrived late and had not let them know through a variety of reasons. I had not realised reception staff time is limited. A fellow guest let me in and my key had been left with a note. My room was small but comfortable and well organised
(would not suit a tall guest) with a magnificent early morning view of the Cathedral. The room cooled with the windows open. Breakfast was standard fare.

Perfectly situated to explore Ely on foot (and that's from dedicated non-walkers!). Lovely old fashioned pub down the road, short distance to central Ely with the cathedral, main road and market place. Wonderful Farmers and Craft Market on 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. Then on down to the river. Breakfast was good and freshly cooked to order. All facilities in our room which was small but comfortable. Meals available some evenings. Lovely garden although we did not explore as it was a very cold February!

By agreement, key left for me...saw no-one on arrival. Good room, but very cold in the night (no heating in my bathroom). Hotel has a comfy feel & warm downstairs. Good breakfast, usual cereal, fruit, and range of cooked food. Service excellent.

OK until we left the ground floor public areas; then we were left wondering how this property satisfies modern standards for fire safety, electrical code, and accessibility. Assuming all rooms in similar condition to ours, then the entire first and second guestroom floors need to be gutted and rebuilt from scratch, and access to them improved from the ground floor. Structurally possible; economically viable? Probably not. The staff try hard but the Nyton's exterior shell and its location are sadly its only positives. Disappointing.

This really is faulty Towers, despite the large room and four poster bed, it was extremely old, badly up kept. Room was freezing cold, cheap crispy linen on the bed and lots of things not working. Light by bed, extra heater in bathroom, tv sound intermittent. When complained the manager was very abrupt and almost rude. Felt everything was too much trouble. Would never stay again I fact we tried to get in another hotel for our second night but was unable to book somewhere else on the day.
