There were not curtains or black out curtains on the windows. The mirror had emotion detection led lights and as I was trying to switch them off I found a syringe, thankfully without the needle. I'm very disappointed with the overall condition of the room.

Emailed all information ID check, and £50 deposit. Didn't receive keycode. Parked car in wrong place thinking it was the hotel but it was the next ally down (needs signage) Pressed button to get in, luckily someone one was in front and kept do open.Pressed the ring door button and asked for key and she couldn't understand me, eventually got key. Went to room, smelt old and musty.Had a big fan which was as noisy. Managed to open the balcony doors, which were stiff. No open window in bathroom. Shower was tiny and unusable. Asked where to move car. She didn't understand me, eventually told me. Tried to get back in and she kept saying where to park car. But I was at the back door trying to get another code. Had to go back round to the front and get in that way. Disgusting that no one is onsite to help with trivial problems like this. And I also feel this is a real health and safety breach. Bed was firm, uncomfortable and had BED BUGS. Made me and the wife feel really dirty. Couldn't wait to escape. Also could hear others talking and banging doors. Contacted Expedia for help. Only plus side is the fridge and microwave and TV was big.

Dump of a room in a once grand house AVOID

£65 a night (!) for a crummy room with a window propped open by an ironing board; black mould in the shower room; faulty sockets; semi broken desk to hold oversized microwave; broken shelf in bathroom; broken clock; one tiny towel; broken ceiling fan; rusty mirror; rusty soap dish; and - of course - no iron.

A total misuse of the word 'hotel'. Just a collection of crummy rooms in a once grand house.

Ok for a single night

It was ok. Decoration was rather tired. TV had come off the wall in our bedroom and was balanced on a table. Bathroom was clean but not in a very good state. Beds were comfortable. Two ladies running the hotel were friendly and helpful.

Clean and tidy room, however room did not reflect any of the images of bedrooms on the website. All the images on the website show large bedrooms with exit from either side of the bed, however our bed was shoved into a corner with no exit available from one side or the end of the bed, very little space in the room either. When my mother asked for an upgrade this was not made available.

This venue is absolutely nothing like the photos. It is a run down building which clearly hasn't been decorated for years and is filled with a load of mis-matched junk furniture. The room was spacious but certainly not cleaned to an acceptable standard. The smell in the room was disgusting.
There were no staff at the location. I was assisted in gaining entry to the building and my room by other newly arrived guests. The only \"staff member\" was a very rude woman with a thick, barely-understandable foreign accent.
I did not feel safe at this location. I immediately left and fortunately managed to find an alternative hotel in town.

Was a bit of a pain to get the key out the safe for my room as I'm only 5ft and the safe was high up, there was quite a bit of dust in the room especially on the bedding, a plug socket that wasn't working didn't have a notice to say, room looks like it's needs a few repairs on wallpaper and tiles in the bathroom can't remember what else was wrong

Beautiful Victorian building, a little bit old fashioned but very cute. I arrived 2 hours before check-in but the room was already ready and everything was there what maybe needed: fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle. There is no front desk at the hotel but I got all instructions over the phone. There was no hair dryer in the room but I brought mine.
The only slight difficulty was uphill walk to the hotel from the train station and I wasn't keen to leave my suitcase on the last day unattended. Very happy with my stay.

Started well, will accommodating staff and a free upgrade; however, the black mould behind the wardrobes was really quite pungent at times. The overall level of cleanliness wasn’t great. But, the staff seemed accommodating about luggage storage despite this being a self-service hotel.

Needs a good Deep clean

continuous emaills and phone calls constantly to confirm you are coming and for £50 deposit and copy of ID. This was very frustrating and enough to put me off using the hotel again.

The bed sheets, pillows were clean, the rest of the room was not! Brown crap stuck inside cups dust balls stuck to the walls of the bathroom and just lots of dust.

I dont really suffer from allergies but struggled to breath properly during the stay (9 hours in total) and the next day sinuses were inflamed.

I booked this as it was cheap, if it had been clean. It would be great value. I can only guess the sheet changed and toilet cleaner put in the toilet is the total of the cleaning. which bring me to the fact the shower need bleaching as covered in mould which is easy to fix.

I am delighted with my stay at the Ashfield hotel. I have had regular contact from the hotel to ensure that I provided all of the information that was needed which was straightforward, and to check that I was still staying and there were no problems. Whenever I have needed to contact them they have replied to my emails immediately. Everyone has been very polite and friendly. The room was clean and had everything I needed including fridge a microwave and a kettle. Parking was also included in a private car park. I was very comfortable and would absolutely stay here again.

Inaccurate description, chaotic check-in system.

This is advertised as a property with breakfast available, room service and concierge service. This is false. There are no staff at the property other than cleaners in the morning. Room service is a vending machine on the ground floor. As it has contactless check-in, you are required to send photo ID and a security deposit before you arrive. You are then supposed to get an e-mail/text with the code to the front door and a code to the key cabinet to collect your room key. I didn't get these and was only able to enter because the cleaner was still on site. When I asked her what time breakfast was served, I was told I had to go to town for it. Otherwise, clean, quiet and comfortable stay.

Felt a bit dodgy!

It felt rather dodgy from beginning to end - having to send them a photo of my photographic ID. I spoke to someone on the phone who said that I could do the £50 deposit by card when I checked in, when |I got there, there was no staff so I phoned back the number and had to read him my card details in the very public hall, not very security conscious at all! Then he told me a number to unlock my key. I feel rather uneasy about the fact they have a photo of my ID and all my card details. The room was ok and I slept well, The poster in the hall reminding me to look out for prostitution in the rooms was also a bit alarming!

They required a £50 security deposit against a £33 room. Not a bad price for 1 night, as long as you’re willing to experience the below:

Communication regarding arrival information did not happen, although they did call me just to make sure try for the security deposit.
When I arrived, I had to push a button to speak to the people. They acted surprised I was there. They had not allocated a room despite booking it over a week earlier.
After calling and explaining and waiting for what felt like 10 minutes, they finally gave me a room.
The hotel shows signs of neglect with the decoration.
The room was difficult to open. The toilet seat was loose.
The bed was comfortable but the linen looked worse for wear.
I found some food left in the room behind a cupboard where you had to reach to plug in the kettle.

I’m used to roughing it, but I’ve stayed in better hostels.

If you want a proper hotel, look elsewhere.

Trying to book in to this hotel was difficult. It was easier to get into a prison as the \"security\" was tight. We apparently needed a code to enter. There were no staff in the reception and only a couple of cleaners. They had to speak to someone over the phone to sort everything out.
Most of the hotels I have stayed in this country have never asked for any form of ID. The Ashfield Hotel requested it. I wasn't carrying any and they would not accept my wife's ID initially.
We were asked for a security deposit of £50 in case there were any damages! This was also a first.
There appeared to be disinterest in maintaining the property. Our room had a broken window boarded over.
There was a double bed in the room. However, it was against one of the walls so getting in and out was not easy and meant disturbing my wife. Fortunately I am not handicapped in any way.
Although there were cleaners working at the time of our arrival, our room was just about clean. Certainly the cups in the room looked as though they needed to go through a dishwasher or a good scrubbing.
This was a booking at short notice because it was close to the centre of Huddersfield where I was due to meet family and friends. in hindsight, it was a mistake to book this hotel. We left as early as we could on the Sunday morning.
Sadly, I would not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel.

This was more like a bail hostel than hotel. The advertised price is actually just the deposit. As soon as you book the owners harrass you for further \"security deposits\". It is hugely overpriced for what it is. It claims to be 3 star...i doubt its even 1 star. There are no staff present at the hotel. It's difficult to access the property without several phone calls. We were let in by other guests who were also frustrated with the unorthodox check in procedure. The building is dilapidated, resembles something from Trainspotting. There were no curtains in the bedroom which is not good for sleep in the height of summer and we were provided only one towel for 2 people in a double room. The whole thing feels very dodgy. I really suggest Expedia remove themselves from this hotel to maintain their integrity. I have previously had nothing but good experiences with Expedia but their association with this hotel is letting them down!

I have complained and as expected never heard anything back and still waiting for an apology and a refund. This is the worst hotel I have ever had the misfortune to go to and in fact we left and paid exorbitantly to sleep elsewhere as there was no way on earth I would have spent a night here ever!! Used tissues everywhere including under he rug, filthy carpets and burnt Lino, pubic hair in bed and spilt tea over counters and inside fridge as well as a broken toilet and disgusting food stuff and other unmentionables! Please rather stay ANYWHERE else as you will regret this!! As for the 3 stars?????

This looked like student accommodation. Curtain hanging off the curtain rail. Electric sockets stuck with sticky tape . No wifi. Filfy carpet. Sink wouldn't drian.Shower grout black. TV hadn't a remote so didnt work. Front door not secure. Person sleeping on the sofa downstairs. Tried to call owners no-one available .Doesn't look like pictures on your site.Wish we had booked in to the Premier Inn.

Very disappointing web site looked very nice. But the room had broken taps, broken shower, shower did not drain , the most uncomfortable bed only 1 pillow, overall it needed a good clean and to be maintained , no reception or welcome leaflet? only a telephone number which was very painful on entry and obtaining keys etc very disappointing all round which was a shame a lovely building from outside. Found 1 friendly staff cleaning in the morning who I thanked as she let me know what to do with my keys on the way out. I kept being told to re my emails but not instructions on either email re keys etc!

The property is substantial Victorian town house with many beautiful original architectural features, but that is about all that is good about it. The hall and stairs appear clean enough although could be described as 'shabby-chic' on steroids.

There is no human contact with a receptionist, with check-in being made over an intercom at the front door and the room key in a safe for which you are given the combination. The hotel front door entry code and wi-fi code were not offered and if they had been we would have struggled to write them down at the door. Unbeknown to us an email had been sent with this information and we were not told.

The room itself was scruffy and care-worn, not even a waste bin or mirror, certainly not up to modern standards, but the most horrifying thing was the bathroom. Grubby, with cigarette burns on the washbasin and illuminated by a lamp-standard with a switch which would have been fatal to touch with wet hands. This is illegal in your own home and against wiring regulations, let alone in a hotel.

A couple of aphorisms of mine are that you get what you pay for and if you don't expect too much you won't be disappointed. We paid the market rate for this type of establishment but we expected better, a lot better, than what we got. Never again!

There is 'self check in' here, which means no-ones about to help. There's a number to ring but they're not very helpful. I rang twice to ask about breakfast as it's advertised as 'available', they hung up on me twice.
Only small hand towel in the room.
Otherwise, I guess you get what you pay for.

Avoid staying in this hotel.

If one ever wants to waste their money, please stay at Ashfield hotel.
There was no one at the reception during our entire stay. We were communicating with the management over an intercom.
The room walls were full of cobwebs, the room main door was having massive cracks in it. The bedding stinked of bleach which made our sleep very uncomfortable.
The shower holder was broken and the drainage was poorly had to take a shower standing in a puddle.
Was a horrible and spooky experience.

Will never stay in this hotel again.

The property was not manned, there was no one at reception, only via a telephone number. There was no telephone link in the room, if the customers mobile were not charged or stopped working, there would be no way we could get in touch with the hotel for help.
There was so much noise during the night in the room next door that it was impossible to sleep or even feel safe.
Another reason for not feeling safe was I was in a room that had a fire door on it. But I could not leave it open, fire doors need to be left open all the time. There was no polite call at any time from the anyone at the hotel to find out if all was well.

AVIOD IF YOU WANT A NON SMOKING ROOM

We have checked into our room at 110 and the rooms stank of smoke, this is a massive issue as the room is ment to be non smoking and my girlfriend suffers from bad asthma. We tried to air the room by opening the window however this did not help and my girlfriend was suffering badly with her asthma in this time. As a result we have had to leave the hotel and seek alternative accommodation.

JUST DONT DO IT!

Absolutely disgusting!!! I can’t put into words how bad this place actually is! The staff (all of 2) didn’t have a clue how to run the place, had to phone the manager to ask which room we was in, and was told we couldn’t check in until 3pm which was fine, but the two staff quickly ran upstairs to make our room up and by the photos you can tell they didn’t do a very good job couldn’t even flush the toilet! The man that was showing us to our room had very very bad b.o and was wearing his tracksuit bottoms TRACKSUIT BOTTOMS half way down his bum and said “soz about the mess we wasn’t expecting people” the place smelt of damp, everything was a complete mess! Whoever owns this business should seriously spend sometime there and see what’s going on! I would be ashamed! Wouldn’t stay here even if they paid me to!

There was no proper reception.When i rang the front door the young lady who answered the door initially didn't want to let me in despite the fact that i showed her my booking number.Her comprehension of the English language was not good i also found this to be true of the cleaning staff.There was no breakfast served at this hotel.
