It failed to live up to its Yorkshire welcome! The hotel was dead inside being in almost all darkness apart from the reception desk. Outside the hotel looked promising, and although I was aware that there was no restaurant or bar. I did expect there to be a lounge sitting area but not lit. The room was clean and adequate but no character the local white Swan pub although advertising meals did not serve food. There is a small Italian restaurant in 10 minutes walking distance which was excellent. I will not return to this hotel.

Upon arriving at the hotel it was clear something was a miss. Car park near enough empty and nothing lit externally. Do NOT let the images fool you, this is not what you are booking. We left after 15 minutes and booked elsewhere. Never have I felt so uncomfortable that I have left the hotel.

OH MY GOODNESS! This hotel used to be classy and we’ve stayed many times before. Why on earth are you still letting out rooms to the public? I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe here. The hotel is being used as a home for refugees/immigrants who spend their time smoking and leering at women and smoking weed. Might be acceptable where they originally came from, but not here.

The heating in the room couldn't be regulated so we had to sleep with the window open. The room we had although quiet the noise from the motorway did keep us awake. The bed was a little on the small size, and a non-slip mat for the bath would be a good idea.

As I pulled up it looked nice from the outside. It's an impressive building and in it's hay day would have been superb. Unfortunately, it now looks like it is closed. I was met at the reception by what appeared to be the only member of staff working. The actual check in was harmless enough and relatively straight forward. As I stood in the reception, I noticed the restaurant and bar area in darkness. I asked if it was open and I was advised it was closed?? I would not have stopped at a hotel that did not serve food or have a bar and this was not explained when I booked. I was given a local pizza/kebab takeout flyer and told I could order from here and they would deliver. No thank you. I then asked about breakfast, and was advised it would be continental only. Again, I would not have booked this hotel if I had been advised of this in advance. One positive was I was advised if I joined the Best Western Loyalty scheme for free I would receive a \"free\" upgrade. For the sake of an email address I did this and was upgraded to a \"suite\"?? The room was very big but extremely old and had a conventional household Fridge in the middle of the room. Everything about the room was odd and old. Things like the windows were not double glazed but had an additional window one in side the other. Picture frames with no glass. The bathroom seat was lose. The bath panel was falling apart. Everything just felt 50 years old and had no cohesive feel. I would not stop here again and would not recommend

Budget best western which was a good price and near where we needed to be the following day.
Clean and comfortable rooms. Corridors a little tired the outside looks a little scruffy. Didn't have breakfast as it was only continental. Near m62 but secondary glazing made sure we couldn't hear traffic noise. Best bit was seeing deer outside the window.

Awful hotel - do not give them your money

Awful experience - grim tired hotel. No food just a flyer for the nastiest looking junk food takeaway. No one around to serve at breakfast.

But the biggest failure - arriving tired after a long day of meetings and driving, checking in, and no staff tells you to register the car registration!!!!

Not looking for notices so received a penalty notice from a private firm with images showing a parked car and for a £100 fine (or £60 immediately).

Call hotel and a verbal shrug of the shoulders, not their issue - well it is because I consider that lack of communicating there's a registering process, legally as entrapment.

Do not use this hotel for a number of reasons - they deserve to go out of business.

The hotel itself needs a little bit of updating in terms of decor, but the room we stayed in was fine for us and was very quiet. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was OK (the water pressure was a bit low) and it was nice having a full sized fridge in the room. The staff were always friendly and it was an ideal base for visiting family in Halifax

This hotel is a now a shadow of its former self. It used to be busy, with a good bar and restaurant, great staff and a lovely freshly cooked breakfast. It now has none of these, the bar is closed, restaurant is closed and breakfast is toast, cereal and Nescafé! Such a shame it’s been allowed to go that way.

The hotel was a little out dated. The first room clearly had not been prepared and I was transferred immediately to a larger unoccupied room. The staff were friendly. My room was clean but everything seemed a bit old and there was a strange smell throughout all the corridors. The shower was a trickle, not what I expected from the Best Western badge. The hotel had a lot of guests who were awaiting social housing. Lots of noise and doors banging. Although continental breakfast was included, did not see it as dining area was partitioned permanently. Not the best stay or experience, won’t be recommending or returning to this hotel

After checking in we learned that the property had previously (and possibly currently) was used to house refugees and was currently being used to house some very unsavory characters who were under investigation by the police. While the hotel staff were pleasant, the people hanging around the reception area were very sketchy and made the place feel dangerous. We stayed for three nights and the threat increased with time. I expected more from a Best Western and would not recommend that anyone stay here. I will certainly not stay there again.

The exceedingly friendly and helpful staff were the only shining feature on our visit to The Old Golf House. The décor is very outdated and is in desperate need of an update. The shower pressure was almost comically bad, leading to us hardly being able to clean ourselves as only a small dribble came out of the shower head. This is a known problem that has still not been fixed. The breakfast was also quite lacklustre although this is to be expected for the price. Ample parking and good access to motorways.

Nearly all the local pubs/eateries are closed Monday and Tuesday.
The bar area is sparse and unwelcoming.
No hot water on the evening so had to move rooms. Got 1 minute of hot water in new room before it ran out.

The staff were outstanding and so very helpful and friendly. The stay was let down by poor shower pressure. It was difficult to wash because the water barely came out of the shower head. If this can be resolved then the stay would have been outstanding.

Comfortable however the property looks tired and uncared for with old dirty looking carpets in communal areas. Also the bathroom though clean had a number of problems. The toilet is too near the wall. I am slender but a large person would have to sit sideways on. The shower was difficult to operate and totally lacking in power. The sink taps were also inefficient. Bed was comfortable however but the furniture is old and outdated. Staff on reception on arrival pleasant.

The service is friendly and I got the impression that nothing was too much trouble.

Unfortunately that's the best I can say. The continental breakfast was stale and inedible. The room was clean and comfortable but very tired.

Considering that it was a non-smoking hotel there was a lingering smell of stale smoke throughout much of the downstairs corridors.

It's not currently in a state that would make me book again despite the friendliness of the staff.

I ordered a room with a double bed, I got 2 singles. There was noise and banging all night and a spotlight coming on throughout the night. Someone banged on my door at 1am then at 4am. The continental breakfast was a joke with limited choices. Reception was abandoned half the time. I complained but the owner laughed it off. I certainly won’t be going back.

Very tired hotel, newish clean carpets in most places but in need of a lick of paint and a general spruce up.
Someone was bitterly complaining that there was not hot water. I did tell them it takes a while and you had to turn it on full. They then complained there was no ice in the bar and worst of all no marmalade at breakfast, just apricot jam.

What I thought would be a great find for two nights turned out to be very disappointing based on site photos - it's old, shabby, musty. Couldn't take the discomfort of the old, lumpy mattress a second night so requested to move to another room. Much better night the second night. \"Hot breakfast\" was cold as ice and definitely not like the photos!

We upgraded to a superior room and it was spacious and well equipped with a nice bathroom. The bed was comfortable and although the motorway is right outside the window there was no intrusive noise. The staff were friendly and the breakfast which was included was fine for me with a choice of fruit, cereals and pastries but my husband was disappointed not to have a choice of fried egg with his breakfast. We didn’t realise until too late that you could ask for one to be specially cooked. I would just agree with others in reviews that it can be hard to find and the sat nav didn’t help much but a gentleman walking his dog in the cold and rain did!

Well we arrived sat tea time, a wedding was in progress, most worse for wear, unable to get to the bar, later was told no food till around 8.30.
We arranged with the receptionist to eat else where.
Came back still unable to get a drink at the bar.
Went into room.
So we saw reception area and room.
Bad experience. I am sure normally would be better. Should be told weddings take place and to ring hotel to find out .
So will probably not go again.

Have stopped at the hotel a number of times previously I was extremely disappointed in the state of the hotel. Carpets were old and threadbare and in some parts obviously water damaged but not fixed. Wood panels were hanging off the walls and held by warning tape. Breakfast on the last day in particular was very poor due to lack of staff, two servers were trying to cope with a large number of residents with the result that none of the tables were cleared - we had to clear our own table and find suitable crockery. Staff were obviously under extreme pressure when it was clear more staff were needed given guest numbers. Rooms were clean but dated. Staff were at all times friendly and helpful but hotel requires major repair and refurbishment and will not stay again until completed.

Traveling up from Birmingham was an absolute nightmare, the postcode sent us around in circles on the m62 until I pulled over on the hard shoulder and tried to call the hotel twice but to my dismay it just rang out... I found another hotel nearby the golf and was redirected to that and redirected by the pleasant staff inside. When finally getting to the hotel the receptionist didn't seem bothered about our bad experience but added that in fact the hotel has two postcodes? That is RIDICULOUS!! Head office/Google need to change this ASAP
When getting our keys which we was staying in room22 first floor we opened our room to be welcomed with a strong smell of mould and hair was all in the bathroom there was a half opened shower gel in in the shower which makes me believe this room was NOT cleaned 100%.
The window had a child lock in presuming because it only opened with a small gap to let air in and it over looked the car park with no blinds etc if we wanted to keep curtains still open.
Once settling in and finally fell asleep despite the mould smell we was woken up at 3am with the fire alarm. Absolutely terrible I would never in a million years stay here again!! Not worth £90 the bathroom was falling apart, the carpet in the room and throughout the hotel was ripped and dirty it stunk of mould in the room and being woken up by the fire alarm was the last straw!! I could NOT WAIT to checkout and drive home to Birmingham,

Perfect choice for me

Well placed, nice and friendly small hotel. Has restaurant and bar. Room was nice size, clean and comfortable and it was very well priced.

Couldn’t not find it with postcode!

This place is available, bathroom needs TLC in room 39. No bath plug, I Spoke to the lady on reception about it, this was never replace while we stayed here. Don’t use the postcode to get to it because you will never find it!

This is a lovely old hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the bathroom modern and very clean. Only real problem was no lift, and the room was up two flights of stairs. Staff offered to assist with any luggage, but we just had small backpacks. We had lunch and food was excellent, a cut above the usual. There was a wedfing, so things were very busy, and we couldn’t have dinner there. .
