The room was super clean, a little bit dated but it added to the charm. The breakfast was superb and the staff were super friendly and attentive. We had a room with the ocean view and what a view it was! Seeing the sunset from the balcony is just next level. I'd say the improvement they could make would be to have a better mattress but I'm just being picky

We had high hopes when we booked the Alimuri but we were severely let down. For starters, the pics of the room and bathroom did not match the superior room we paid extra for. The pics shown an updated look and feel with an updated shower It was old and dated in real life. The shower is where we had one of the biggest problems. I am a short girl and the pics showed a walk-in shower but what we got was an extremely tall tub shower with a makeshift panel in place for a curtain of sorts. My husband is tall at 6’ and even he had an issue, the top of the tub was about mid thigh for him. This led to an unsafe situation when trying to step out of the tub and i slipped because i couldn’t reach the floor. I ended up with a huge bruise on my arm where I hit the countertop next to the tub. When we told the management about it they were not helpful at all. As a matter of fact the manager himself wouldn't even come out of his office to talk to us and made the front desk clerk speak to us. We tried showing them pics from both Expedia and the listing on their own website and how the room listed is not what we received but they wouldn't hear of it. They only offered to pay for the single beer we had on the beach earlier that day and made no effort to take care of us or make any accommodations at all. Do not stay here unless you want to get injured or swindled.

The hotel itself was in a great location slightly away from downtown sorrento but they offered free shuttles throughout the day. Parking included and breakfast was also perfect. I did find a local mini mart approx 12 min uphill walk away.

Facility is nice but the rooms need attention. Our shower wouldn’t drain and leaked onto slick tile floor. We told front desk first day about it and they wrote a note but never addressed the issue so every time we showered it either had to be quick our the floor would get soaked. Wish they would have done something about it but otherwise good place to stay.

I’ll start by saying I accept that not all hotels are luxurious, and I have stayed at all types. This hotel is just shocking false advertising. The 1st floor with dining room and pool area has been remodeled, but the rest of the hotel was clearly nice and opulent in it’s time, but is now falling apart and haphazardly repaired here and there. Our room smelled musty, we felt every spring in the bed, pillows were flat. The area around the hotel was sketchy but we had no issues. Beach was packed and dirty. Parking was in a gated parking lot filled with garbage. The positive: Bar staff was great.

Open balcony on the morning and enjoy sounds of waves 🌊 So far best hotel of our trip! Sunsets… water is so wild and clear! Our room have jacuzzi with ocean view that we really enjoyed. ( and who complained about bad rooms you need to choose room when you booked!) another room has amazing balcony with ocean view and seahorse decor. Breakfast was outstanding with salmon and plenty mozzarella and tomatoes. So many sweets options for our little one. Pool is also good bonus with plenty of balloons and toys. Location is fantastic and very close to Sorrento and good restaurants. Can’t wait to come back next year!

Pictures are worth 1000 underwhelming experiences

This place is overpriced for the quality. The food is terrible. The location and view is wonderful. The staff was not so great, some people that I interacted with were kind and helpful others not so much. The beach is overcrowded and beach chairs in disrepair. Our room had a beautiful view but the shower is uncomfortable and leaked all over the floor. The housekeeping forgot sheets on our bed and the comfort of the bed itself provided restless sleep. My fiancée and myself were both underwhelmed at the experience. I would never stay here again. I had really high hopes and was upset halfway through our stay. Don’t let the pictures fool you into staying here.

The food option was very limited one menu for lunch and dinner.The towels were rundown very old. The shower curtain was falling down It was just a joke. stains on the walls both hallway and in the room and furniture .our room was smelling like mildew, we asked to be changed to another room. They gave us another room away and separate from the hotel building and didn’t had balcony as per our itinerary. the elevator was not safe at all Kept on getting stuck middle of the floors. In the website of the hotel, it advertises that it has private Sandy beach but it was not it was public and rocky.
In one word the hotel was horrible except the staff
I will not recommend at all.

When booking this hotel, please note it is an individual, traditional Italian hotel with lots of beautiful marble, mosaic and a lovely art deco feel. Our room with an incredible sea view again had traditional tiles, wood carvings and marble based on a nautical theme. The dining room, bars and outside areas are more modern and spotlessly clean, shout outs to the lifeguards who were great and Valentino behind bar who was really polite. In fairness, all the staff here are a credit. The location of the hotel is perfect with beautiful views over the Bay of Naples and lots of little eateries that are so good, particularly in the evening, spectacular sunsets. Thoroughly recommend, well done guys.

This was a romantic location reminiscent of the titanic. It is designed to feel like a ship. Friendly staff. Gorgeous location. Quiet. Luxurious. Pool and beach access. Hot tub was wonderful and near the balcony. We could hear the waves as we slept. Only thing I would mention is there isn’t a ton to do within walking distance. So it’s a good place if you have transportation or want quiet.

I will not return to this hotel.
The room was located in a separate building that was unsafe, old and not up to the advertisement. Our room door was accesible with a soft push. The locks were a joke. We had never been in a place like this before, so pathetic.
The people at the front desk, including the manager, were disengaged and completely unapologetic. They are making me think twice in paying in advance for any room in the future.
This was a tragic experience, and only hope that someone is paying attention.

No 1, not sure why it’s listed as a 4 star hotel, also not sure where to begin, the piles of garbage in the parking lot, the dirty towels in my room, the missing sheets on the bed, the rust on the elevators, or the mold on the bathroom ceiling… I can go on and on on all the imperfections I’ve found here. The only thing this hotel has to offer is the staff, and an amazing view. Other than that, if you’re expecting 4 stars do not go here!

The view was very nice but otherwise not a great location if Sorrento is your focus. It's Far from the train station and Sorrento with limited and expensive transportation. The bed was hard. The tile floor was very cold. The shower was cramped and cold because the door doesn't close all the way. We were there in November and the dining room was not serving other than for large groups on tour.

I gave this hotel five stars because of the view. The staff was pleasant, and the place was clean. The bar was good and the drinks were reasonably priced but the restaurant food was inedible. Fortunately, there are a couple restaurants right next-door that are very good. Try Ristorante IL Verricello.

This property was an absolute pleasure to stay at. Booked last minute for a romantic getaway. Beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea, and hills of Sorrento. Very easy to get around with train and shuttle service The hotel offers. Beautiful property with pool, restaurant and bar on site. Daily breakfast buffet serving hot food and European pastries. Will absolutely stay again.
*Spa is closed since Covid.

Be aware that the photos used for this property are Atleast 20 years old. Super quiet isolated property on a small beach. Staff was nice There is no shuttle service like posted you have to take a city bus into town it’s quite an up hill hike first.

Nice, but run down

This is definitely not a 4* hotel, maybe it was once in it's heyday but not anymore. But first the positives, the hotel is in a beautiful location in Meta, towering cliffs surround it and the view across the bay to Sorrento is wonderful. The staff are polite and very friendly and the service was excellent. We only had breakfasts there but the selection was good, choices of cooked breakfasts, pastries, cereals etc. Tea and coffee is out of a machine but was fine, the fruit juice from a machine was disgusting though.
Now the negatives, the hotel itself is in desperate need of a complete renovation, it is so run down, the plaster on the walls outside is falling away, the floors are chipped, paintwork outside is rusting and the exterior furniture has seen better days. Our room was a twin with a balcony over looking the bay. The room was clean and the bedding was clean and crisp. The light wasn't great as half the bulbs didn't work, the toilet wasn't secured to the floor, someone had tried to use some sealant to secure it (only halfway round) but that hadn't worked. The bath had enamel worn away and again some poor sealant application all round it. Also the extractor fan didn't work. In the room there was a strange radio system fitted into the wall, but a, it didn't work and b, it was installed upside down.
Be warned, if you have a room facing the bay be prepared to be kept awake by, what in my opinion, was the worst hotel entertainment ever blaring out.

I was happy when I booked htis hotel as it said sandy beach, it said spa, and it looked like a resort.
No spa, rocky beach. The designated beach area was a joke as it was tiny and you rarely could get a spot on the beach chair. The first night the pool was good, then each day after, you couldn't even see your feet it was so cloudy. Even after we watched them \"clean\" it one night, the very next day it was still very cloudy. Dinner menue the same every night with only 2 options if you did not eat fish. I asked if there was an all incluseive, they said no. I then find out there is a different menue for different guests. Why was I not offered this? There was no lunch menue, no snack options. Breakfast and dinner. They did put out hors d'oeuvres but they rarely were great. Mostly cold and flavourless.
This is absolutely NOT a hotel for anyone younger than 40! There is nothing to do.
Beer was 6 euros when literally 10 meters away at the snack bar of another hotel it was 3 euros. There is no music by the pool, the pool bar sometimes had staff in it, sometimes not. Not inviting what so ever. The night entertainment.....oh mu gosh! some man playing air keyboard- seriously- to a track of old music and singing songs he rarely got the lyrics right in. I am not kidding. It was maybe great for the 70 year olds that were there.
I did see some of the most spectacular sunsets.
My advise, book the hotel next to it \"Golden Beach\" . Younger crowd, has a snack bar, cheeper drink

The hotel was wonderful and looking forward to returning. We wanted to be on the beach and not be too far from the city center and this hotel offered both. A beautiful location on the beach, with a pool and terrace overlooking the sea. While you could still walk to nearby restaurants, the hotel also offers a free shuttle to the center town of Sorrento which has fantastic shops, ambiance and restaurants. Our room was very spacious and well equipped. Perfect balcony overlooking the sea. Staff and front desk were always very helpful and we could even book excursions with the hotel. This hotel has all the European charm and style while providing modern amenities. We are a family of 4, two kids 11 & 14 and we all enjoyed it! Thank you

Nightmare Room - NOT 4 Star

Dirty, disgusting, checked out first thing in the morning as soon as I could. NOT a 4-star hotel by any means, closer to a 2-star. We were given a room with terrible AC, it smelled bad, the floor had not even been cleaned, there was grime on the bathroom floor. The beds were rock hard and didn't even have a topper, just a mattress and a sheet. The safe was broken, the walls were dirty, there was mildew in the shower, no wifi. A nightmare of a room and I was too exhausted to just check out and request my money back. Don't be fooled by the photos - they have renovated the bathrooms but don't maintain them. They have only badly painted the room but left furniture & AC from 40 years ago. There is absolutely no charm to this place - there wasn't even AC in the lobby, the breakfast buffet serves syrup instead of actual orange juice, they are cutting corners in every way possible and have clearly given up. The beach is disgusting - apparently it's where the boats dump their waste. This place will absolutely ruin your perception of the Sorrento area - stay somewhere else, go to the beach somewhere else, there are MUCH nicer places. I almost didn't eat dinner at the restaurant here because I didn't want to get food poisoning, but the dinner was surprisingly good - I had an excellent risotto con gamberi & limone. It's a good if you're in the area, the lobby bar was great, the terrace & small pool is really lovely - but avoid staying there! Spend a little more somewhere nicer.

Hidden Gem!

The hotel has nice amenities. The building is a traditional Italian style and is well maintained. The staff (everyone from front desk to waiters to cleaning staff were friendly, helpful and detail oriented). I cannot day enough about their warm, caring staff and they made our stay very enjoyable!

A few days before we were due to arrive, weeks after we had booked we were contacted and told that due to a booking error there was no space for us in the hotel.

We ended up in a different hotel that we quite enjoyed but I’m not sure how relevant that is.

A pleasant stay in Meta

The hotel has a very impressive lobby and we were given an upgrade to a sea view room which was lovely. The room was a little dated but clean and well equipped. It seems most guests are all inclusive and there was some confusion as to what was included and what was not which was frustrating at times. Breakfast buffet was adequate but little fresh fruit and hot food was kept warm for long periods. Everything was very sweet for our tastes. The evening buffet was definitely not worth it unless you are getting it included in the stay.

The area is pleasant and fairly quiet with a nice walk along the seaside. The area of beach assigned to the hotel is very small and pebbly. The loungers are all packed up at 6pm when the sun is still shining brightly and the beach is in shade for some time in the morning. The shuttle bus is useful and reliable. Staff were pleasant and went out of their way to help.

We had a hire car - although driving is chaotic to say the least - and enjoyed day trips to Capri and hiking ‘the path of the gods’ nearby.

Good points
- The hotel is located next to a lovely beach and also has a very refreshing pool
- sea view large room was an excellent size
- staff were extremely friendly and good with our baby - most notably Vincenzo and Simone in the restaurant, Maria at reception
- all inclusive was good with a good variety of branded alcohol and a good drinks menu
- shuttle service to Sorrento was very convenient!
- lovely views from the terrace over the sea, very relaxing sitting in the evenings with a drink or eating dinner outside

Room for improvement points
- some maintenance in the bedroom could be slightly better, eg missing lamp shade, bathroom was dated and needed improved
- noticed the local Italians staying in the hotel sometimes eating or drinking things we didn’t see available to us, eg a different bottle of wine / different main course not available on the menu. Think this isn’t overly fair

Skip the cliffs and stay on the beach!

When staying a few days after our tour ended in Sorrento, we really wanted to be ON THE WATER... Mar Hotel Ali Muri had its own beach AND a pool! Yes, it was in Meta, just on the edge of Sorrento, but they have a SHUTTLE to downtown Sorrento running most all of the day and evening! It was perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel and paying a bit extra is worth the SEA VIEW. Watch the sun set over Sorrento right from your balcony or the beach! A lovely and sumptuous breakfast daily is also worth any up charge. Breakfasts so large, you can fill up and make it most of the day til late afternoon and dinner time! The staff was especially helpful, most notably, Joseph and Erika. They helped us arrange dinners in quaint restaurants, pick the right shuttle times, and even gave us train, subway and safety tips when we went to the museum in Naples one day!

Perfect location, run down facility

We have chosen this hotel as one of the rare hotels in the area which are built on the beach. The location is fantastic, with open views, and all rooms on the seaside. We booked a superior triple room, but (it was Easter) have got a small standard doubleoom with roll away bed.
When explaining to the reception that we have not got what we paid for (the price was above 200 euros per night) they bluntly suggested to upgrade us to a suite for additional fee and they explained that the small room was \"superior\" because of the sea view (?). After we rejected the offer they called again and offered a much larger room for free, but we refused this bargaining. They have not treated us fairly and we want to warn the others.

the hotel staff was excellent. They first began by sitting down with us and explaining all about capri, the sites to see, and how to get around. They took all the time we needed to answe all the questions we had.

Miles out of sorrento, don't stay in annex

The first choice website says that the annex is refurbished but the approach is horrible through some old shutters and the rooms are drab. We managed to move to a different room after the first night. The hotel itself is miles out of sorrento which means you are reliant on taking the shuttle bus each time. If you want to stay at a lovely hotel go to the capodimonte. In walking distance of the town and very nice. Only thing going for this hotel is the view.

Great location for a get away, off the beaten path. Pleasant staff and nice rooms. Any sea side property is very difficult to keep fresh paint on and rust creeps out. Rust was evident on every balcony and made me wonder if it was painted every season. This was the only negative I had on the hotel condition, but it is on the ocean so it goes hand and hand.

all in all a nice place!

Disgusting treatment of guests

Extremely disappointing! A 7day stay with friends. When we arrived, having booked ocean front rooms, we were advised that one couple would have to move after two days to a room across the street in another building because the people who were in our room were staying longer. Also we were told, when we suggested that those people be moved since they were now imposing, that they were sick. We suggested they be moved since they were sick they would not need an ocean view room, we were told that they were not at the hotel, so they gave us an extra 2 days in the original room. This was obviously a ploy to cater to a group that had booked an all inclusive stay. We ended up bargaining for half pension meals including all drinks for both ourselves and our friends for the inconvenience. Then we went to have a drink at the bar and were told that drinks at the bar were not included. Another misleading offer from the hotel management to get us to agree to the room change. Then, at the hotel dining room, we discovered two different levels of wine available and requested the slightly better quality. They refused to honour this although no mention was made of this at the time of offering the free drink privilege to us.I can say one good thing about this hotel, and only one. The fresh orange juice at breakfast was excellent. Also, the alternate room measured about 8' x 10'.This hotel has no shame.

Great view, bit far from Sorrento

Location of the hotel is okay, the view is fantastic and the facilities are great, the neighbourhood is not an area you would casually walk around though and is a bit far out from Sorrento, there is a regular shuttle bus to get into some area's but you are dependent on times and it finishes at 23:30.

We just got back from a 2 week trip to Italy with a 2 night stay at Mar Hotel Alimuri. The hotel is a little away from downtown Sorrento but the free shuttle was very convenient to get to the centre of town. Beware that the last shuttle back is about 8:30 PM so if you miss it, the cab ride back is about 30 Euros.The room itself was a decent size. I wont classify this as a 4 star hotel but it was clean and the beds were decent. The beach area was small.. too much rocks for my liking but it must be the area. FREE PARKING was GREAT specially since they closed the gates for security reasons.

This hotel is a nice place for a getaway. We ended up staying here last minute and it was a lovely decision. The hotel is a bit resort like but offers a free shuttle into town to have a change of scene.
The shuttle is prompt and easy! There are many places to eat in Sorrento so the shuttle service was perfect for grabbing lunch and/or dinner. We were even able to carch the shuttle and walk to our ferry for Capri.
The hotel staff was lovely and always helpful. There is a private beach and pool area to cool off in and access. The beach guy will set up a chair and umbrella for you when you arrive to the beach. The hotel's decor is a bit nautical and funky but it's fine. We were only there for one night so it didn't bother us.
Overall, a wonderful place to be. Nice staff, location and clean rooms. Additionally, the prices are pretty reasonable. We would stay here again.

It was not the best choice for me.

Negative: No water in the room betwen 6 pm and 8pm... (3 days out of 5) There was a hole in the bathtub repaired with silicon paste. Beach closes 7pm. Positive: Very good food. Very clean room. Perfectly working airconditioning. Great view. Shuttle till Sorrento.

We had a wonderful stay at Mar Hotel Alimuri Spa. The views are amazing, the staff is wonderful and the food is great. The shuttle that is offered makes traveling to Sorrento easy.

A great choice for beach lovers

The hotel is perfect for folks who want the beach more than anything else. It does have a private beach just down the steps from the hotel's deck. The beach is well taken care of - on the last day we saw a small bulldozer leveling the pebbles. That's right - pebbles. You won't find good sand anywhere in Sorrento.

The hotel is way off the main drag, but it has a free-during-the-day, 1 euro at night shuttle that goes back and forth every hour and takes you right to downtown Sorrento. Note that there's a no-shuttle window between 6:30 and 10 pm to get back to the hotel. The shuttle was always on time, sometimes early, and it makes you appreciate and admire Italian driving. :) The shuttle rides takes ~15 minutes.

Do contact the hotel prior to your arrival if you are arriving by train and arrange for the shuttle pickup.

Most of the guests in the hotel were older folks - in fact, other than me and my wife and another young married couple, everybody else was in the 50s-60s-... You won't find any nightlife activities at the hotel or in the surrounding area. They had live music every night - typical Italian repertoire. So if action is what you are after, stay in Sorrento (this hotel is technically speaking is located in Meta). Not that there's much action at night anyway - we saw ads for a couple of clubs, but didn't get a sense that there was much to do after the dinner.

So, to summarize, if you want the beach in Sorrento, this hotel is a great choice.

I have chosen the hotel for the beautiful location and private beach. The choice was probably right. The air there is very relaxing. We were in September and the sea was very warm, the weather was great. The people on reception are very helpfull and responsible. The rooms are clean. The only queer thing is restaurant and service there. It is very inconvinient (especially for breakfast) that we always should ask for hot drinks and not to take them on our own. The restaurant has no hot drinks at all: only slightly warm and it takes a lot of time for some of the waiters to bring it. The coffee range from bad to disgusting in taste.
The breakfast is modest and just eatable. The good feature is plenty of fresh juices which one take on one's own. The dinner is also just eatable. The good thing in dinner is a lots of fruits. The waiters does not inform that the drinks are not included in the price of dinner (for not inclusive guests). So be ready to pay for every non drinkable thing they bring.
The hotel is located 15-20 minutes walk uphill to Meta train station. There are two platforms in Meta. Trains to Napoli arrive on first platfrom. Trains to Sorrento arrive on first or second platform. In the latter case they make announcement. Trains not always follow time schedule (may be late on 10 minutes). If you stay with your face to platforms and your back to station, if train is going from your left, it means it goes to Napoli. If it goes from right side, it goes to Sorrento.

Good for beach access - and that's it

We stayed 4 nights in a suite in July '12. The location, while only a few km on a map, is about half an hour from Sorrento by the shuttle. The small shuttle this hotel has is usually booked - and we could not find room on the 8AM shuttle any day. Taxi to Sorrrento costs about 30 Euros. The buffet breakfast was barely edible - the baked goods were made with some form of whole wheat without any butter - and you can imagine how they taste. The coffee here, and most of Italy, is not very good - even the cappucinos - the beans they use are low quality - don't expect Colombian or Sumatra beans based coffee in Italy! The one good thing was the pool and the beach access - which is what most of the visitors (from northern europe here on packaged tours) seem to like. The Meta train stop on Circumvesuviana is the closest, but there are no taxis waiting outside - need to be able to call someone for that - and it's not walking distance at all. There seems to be an all inclusive option - that all the folks on the tour packages had. There is one restaurant next door - la Concha - that has good food - but very small portions - we had to each there 3 nights. The city of Sorrento has a couple of streets with the typical shops founds here and in Positano, Amalfi or Capri - nice to walk around there. Ultimately, deciding to stay here is a tradeoff - if all one wishes to do is lounge around on the beach this is a good choice; as a base for exploring the area is not optimal.

Not very central but pleasant

Read other reviews and expected hotel to be in convenient location-not so! If you come into Sorrento by train, get off two stops before Sorrento at the Meta stop and walk downhill about 10 minutes to the hotel, which is on a main road, just above the beach. We took the train to Sorrento and caught the A-1 (?) bus to Meta, got off at the end of the route, which leaves you at a marina on the beach, with a 5 minute hike in the sand, dragging suitcases and a long stair climb to reach hotel, about 25 minutes out of Sorrento. To leave the hotel and go off sightseeing make sure that you have purchased a bus ticket from a Tabacca (sp?) shop. (the little Pizza restaurant on the beach also sells bus tickets).Bus drivers don't sell tickets. Tickets get activated only once on the bus, so you can buy multiples in advance. The bus stop is up the road from the hotel, past the tunnel and by the entrance to the marina.

The small pizza restaurant on the beach serves great food, especially the ricotta cheesecake! A must have even if you hate cheesecake!

Good breakfast at the hotel and free internet. Once you get used to the location, it is easy to get around. We used Sorrento as a home base to go to the Isle of Capri, Amalfi coast and Pompeii.
