This was a great hotel for the price and location. It was roomy, extremely clean and the kitchenette was all we needed. It had a microwave, kettle and toaster. A selection of glasses, crockery and cutlery. It had a laundry which was a little tricky to navigate. Once you knew you had to get tokens from the vending machine it was manageable. If you don’t mind not having access to human staff, this is the place for you. It is self check on which was easy enough. We declined to pay for breakfast as it was 20Euro per person with no information about the menu. Plenty of lovely cafes on the way to places of interest. Self checkout was just a matter of dropping key cards in a box.

Sauna advertising misleading, there was only limited sauna availability and it was needed to book unlike normal hotel where you just go to sauna on its opening hours. Having sauna was the only reason to book the locale. There is no staff support in evening, no way to contact a person in case of issues. Check in purely electronic which again is not informed before doing the hotel booking. Advice to avoid the place, there are better services available

Checkin is via machine which is ok. I got there early and the machine after going through a whole 5 min ordeal tells me it’s too early and try again later—however they did have lockers so I could leave my baggage and walk around. At 3 I checked in and the room was in good shape and there is a fridge and glassware enough to make a longer stay comfortable. My bathroom was not clean; there was dried mucus on the wall, which was gross. As there is no attendant I just then an email for reference. I was so jet lagged I went to sleep. I got up the next morning to see that there was breakfast and went and had a nice little buffet style offering. I walked in and sat to eat and had a bread and coffee. When I went to refill my coffee a man appeared and told me I couldn’t eat bc my room didn’t include breakfast. That was weird and embarrassing. I apologized as he wasn’t there when I walked in. He aggressively asked what room I was in. The interaction left a bad taste in my mouth as how simple would it be to either have a sign or have an attendant?

Check-in experience shortly after 4:00p, although automated by two machines, was very difficult. During check-in, my machine crashed after taking payment but before key cards were issued, and became unusable..

Although a support number was found outside, phone support had ended at 4:00p (check-in was 3:00p-6:00a). Since no one answered, I sent an email.

By trying a second machine, I finally obtained a key card at 4:45p.

After going out to dinner, I received a call that my key cards wouldn’t work upon return. I was asked to re-register and assured I would not be charged twice.

I WAS charged twice and ask that my second charge be refunded.

Our room was stifling hot all night with no fan or AC in the room, and windows would only partially open.

Luckily, the staff person added us for breakfast since we had prepaid for it.

A friend who was also checking-in with me submitted a review of our frustrations. And then received a very hostile email in reply blaming us for being 'aggressive' with the machines. As each of us are 35 year career computer engineers, we rebut the accusation.

Excellent location. Walking about 15 min on the same street to City Center. Quiet place. Very clean. The place had everything we needed for our trip, including kitchen utensils.
Everything we did was via machines and we did not meet a single person. It was a bit weird but everything worked out. The check-in machine on the right did not have the letter \"D\" so that was a problem.

Comfortable appartement in central location

I stayed two nights at the appartment hotel. It was easy to check-in through their computers. I needed my credit card to pay for a local tax.The appartment was cosy, the small kitchenette was very useful so I could prepare some food myself. The mattress was comfortable. It is about 10 minutes walk to the old town in Konstanz, which was very convenient. The only thing was that the red long hair carpet/rug was not the most clean one. When I mentioned it to the receptionist at check-out he told me that they are already planning to replace the carpets, so this issue should be solved in future.

While I'm not crazy about hotels with automated front desks, I really did like this place when I got inside. It's clean and up to date and on a quiet side street. It's also within walking distance of the historic downtown and Lake Constance.

Very relaxing 4 nights after a week of Munich and Oktoberfest. Check-in kiosk is a surprise but manageable. Evening front desk attendant was extremely helpful and courteous. He provide maps and advice for getting started in Konstanz.

2001 A Space Odyssey

I suppose this is the future of mid-range hotels. The room was large, modern and with a balcony. (No filters for the coffee maker though!) Check-in was all done through an automatic kiosk; no human contact. In fact, except for checking out, when there was someone at the desk who called us a cab, we did not see another human being associated with the hotel in three days. I felt a little like the astronaut in 2001, a Space Odyssey, dealing with HAL. I imagine that younger guests might not feel as strange. It was a moderate walk from the Altstadt, but the actual neighborhood, although not unattractive, seemed pretty sterile.

Worst place ever

This was a dissapointing stay. When I went to check in, the kiosk that they have couldnt find my reservation. We spent the best part of an hour trying to get our room. I finally broke down and tried to pay for a different room that they had available even though it was just a single bed. There isnt anybody to help or answer the phone for help. Once I got the key for that room, I tried one more time for the reservation that I had made and it finally showed and got the key for that.
The next morning the front desk was open and I told them what had happened. They offered no solution and said someone would be in touch with me. After not hearing anything, I made email attempt and phone calls but nothing again. I am dissapointed in this place and would never stay here again or recomment it to anyone

very interesting hotel apartment

it is actually an apartment complex, with automated check-in kiosk. No staff before 7am and after 11am. So it is important to read the Hotel Guides in your language right by the vending machines.

Room is clean, with kitchen, so would be good if you stay for few days. A bit far to walk from the train station, but not too bad. I only stayed one night, so I did not get to meet any of the hotel staffs.

This was my second stay with them so I knew what to expect in terms of value/neighborhood etc. It offers a very good value of having an apartment at the price of a tiny hotel room.

However on this occasion, I was rudely shocked by the behaviour of the staff members. I was having trouble with my wifi network INSIDE my room so I went to the reception to tell them about it. My expectation was that its probably a simple matter of adding one wifi booster adapter in my room and it would be done. But I was shocked by the level of rudeness of the staff member on duty. Using his Iphone, he checked the wifi outside my room and said since everything was working fine on his phone, the problem was with my phone. I said the problem is INSIDE the room and doesnt help if it works outside. I asked for the complaint book which he said they didnt have; I asked for his supervisor's phone number to which he said hes on vacation and not reachable. Then he told me on my face that if I have a problem, I should check out and find some other place to stay!

What should have been a simple request was handled in such a rude manner. The sad part is that even in the email that I wrote later on was ignored completely. I know you can't judge a place by the behavior of one bad apple but it was shocking to me that the individual thinks he can treat guests so badly apparently with no consequences.

Good value but away from old town of Konstanz

Good apartment-hotel at good value. However it is some way off from the old town area. So be prepared to walk quite a bit to get to wherever you need to go. It comes at a very good value compared to staying in a hotel. Has a reasonably well-equipped kitchen in case you plan to cook. The small apartment is too small (no bigger than a regular hotel room). Hence I would recommend that you choose one of the bigger options.

It isn't a \"hotel\"

The former Ritz Carlton President, Horst Schulze, defined excellent hotels as offering excellent service. Well service is what Boardinghouse HOME is lacking, and not as a metaphor: they just don't offer service by default It is by their own definition a home away from home: you get a nice apartment but not any service: the reception works between 7 am to 11 am, and after that there is nobody there. Need extra towel? you have to pay for it. Cleaning the room? Please pay. It is ok to offer such a boarding house but you cannot pretend to be a hotel. This is misleading! And you cannot ask for for the same price as the full service hotels it the surroundings. There's no justification for that price.

Clean, comfortable and spacious

I stayed here for one night during a weekend visit to Konstanz. Probably the cleanest hotel room I've ever stayed in. Very spacious and comfortable. It would be a great spot for a couple staying a few nights. The hotel is well marked and though it's a bit out of the city center, it's an easy 10 minute walk and definitely worth it to avoid the high costs of the other hotels. The breakfast is an additional 10 euros and it's a nice spread, complete with a basket of warm bread, a great coffee machine, and fresh fruit you can take with you for your day. Be advised (and the hotel is up front about this), the reception is only staffed each morning until 11am. You will check in at a kiosk - not a problem if everything is in order, but I had a credit card issue and later ran into a couple who could not find their name in the system despite having a reservation. There is no after hours number to call. The only other drawback is thin walls - you can hear folks in the stairwells and outside. The neighborhood, however, was quiet after dark and I only heard a couple of people in the morning. I still got a great night's rest. I traveled alone and felt safe in the room. I would definitely stay there again and recommend this hotel to weekend travelers to Lake Constance.

The place itself is shiny and new and is run with some style. It straddles the hotel and long-term stay sectors. Kitchenette was very sufficient for two people for breakfast/lunch but not dinner (fridge, microwave, toaster, water kettle, sink, plates/glasses/utensils, but no stove or pots/pans and NO table to eat at - only a tiny and awkwardly located high table with two barstools). Location is curious - deep in a modest residential neighborhood, 5-10 minute walk from groceries, bakery or oldtown area. Small double bed, not queen. We were happy - but felt a bit like we were floating in a neutral zone.

The room was immaculate and the kitchenette area well appointed, but only used for morning coffee. Many great restaurants to discover in Konstanz. Wi-fi worked well.

The apartments are clean and large, and have a very good floor hearing system.

It's a 15 mins walk away from Konstanz old city, but it's a easy long straight street to get there.

I would recommend this hotel for everyone that doesn't mind a little walk after a good German dinner :)

This is a fully automated self check in only change the sheets/towels (unless otherwise requested/paid for) once a week hotel/boarding house. But for that you get a generous well appointed and very clean room, wifi, a good bathroom and a cupboard kitchenette, all at a very reasonable price. In my view it covers all the required bases and does so well. Short walk to the old town and some surprisingly decent neighbourhood restaurants not far.

First, the automated check-in was excellent being that my fiance and I checked in late in the evening. The room was very clean and organized. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was equipped with all the appliances needed if one wanted to cook a meal. This is a modern stay in an old town. Location, price, ability to check in at a machine 24/7 was wonderful, along with the room being more of an apartment with a furnished kitchen for cooking. Definitely a good choice. The only short side is there is no one at the reception desk most of the time - only from 7-11 a.m. so if you have problems, it's a bigger problem.

Great hotel

It was awesome! Husband and I were pleasantly surprised. It's a modern hotel within walking distance of of the lake and other tourist places. When I saying walking, I mean bring your walking shoes. Only down size, no fans! This is Europe people, that means you're usually not going to get air conditioning in buildings, so you would think they would have fans in the rooms for the summer. Nope. Other than that, you got a kitchenette, sitting area and a patio for a low price. There is also a café at the corner but it was just our lock they decided to go on vacation the next day.

quiet efficient hotel

Very quiet clean hotel. I have stayed once before. Perhaps some attention to small details would bring rating to excellent. For example: there was no electrical socket anywhere near the desk so computer operation was difficult; no bedside lamp on one side of the bed; the shower flooded with every use because of a faulty seal leading to water cascading through the bathroom to the lounge every time we used the shower. There was no cloth provided in the kitchen. But overall good experience. Very helpful concierge at reception with advice.

No frills but very nice

We were looking for a hotel close to the lake that we could bike from. The location was in the center of college dorm style apartments, but we were able to bike out in the morning, and walk downtown to eat in the evenings. Konstanz is a lovely town and when I go back, I will stay here again.

Beautiful rooms at a reasonable price

I recommend this hotel. Don't be put off by the somewhat odd name ('Boardinghouse Home'). It sounds instituional, but the hotel really isn't. I enjoyed my stay here. The hotel is brand new (about a year old) and the room was very tastefully decorated, spacious, bright and spotless. The hotel is in a quiet residential area in walking distance of the train station (15 minutes) and the town centre (10 minutes). Bus number 9A to and from the train station and the university stops right outside the hotel. The 'tourist tax' (2 Euros per day) charged by every hotel in Konstanz entitles you to a 'guest card' allowing you free use of public transport for the duration of your stay.

I had the cheaptest room (standard apartment), consisting of one large room with a sofa, small double bed, desk and chair and bathroom. There is was a kitchenette with a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge and sink. All of this is hidden in a cupboard, so it does not look like a cheap holiday apartment.

One negative is that that the reception is only open from 7am - 1 pm, so there is no room service or concierge. However, if you don't need this you will enjoy this place. The staff at the reception in the morning are friendly and helpful.

Some reviews complained about the checking-in machine. I did not find this to be a problem at all. Checking in took about 3 minutes and everything worked without a problem. If you can book a hotel online, you certainly won't struggle using this machine.

A bit confusing to have no soap in the bathroom. Very clean and modern anyway. Unfortunately sauna was out of order on that time. I got wrong breakfast, but after closer check by waitress, I got new one. Small negative sides came up, but otherwise OK place.

Der selbst-check-in ist nicht wirklich selbsterklärend und obwohl meine Mutter und ihre Freundin noch während der Telefonzeiten angerufen hatten, konnten wir niemanden erreichen. Glücklicherweise kam irgendwann doch noch eine Mitarbeiterin aus dem Hotel und hat uns unterstützt. Wenn jemand nicht sonderlich digital versiert ist, sollte man möglichst frühzeitig einchecken.
Das Zimmer war sehr schön, nur leider funktionierte die Klimaanlage nicht. Meine Mutter und ihre Freundin haben aber dafür noch tagelang vom Frühstück geschwärmt.

Weird, unfriendly scam

Our tourist tax was charged double and the manager didn't want to help us. We had to pay it twice or we wouldn't get into the room and no refund. Manager was very unfriendly and misanthropic. Parking was also unavailable until 3PM, although there were still lots of available spots, as only 5 rooms were booked (with a reason...). So don't book this to visit Constanz over the weekend as it won't have any use. The living room only had one one-person couch, although being a 2-people bedroom... The hotel was really arranged so that you wouldn't have any way to come into contact with anyone of the staff. The front desk is even hidden behind a fake wall, except for during breakfast hours. Feels like it's run by robots. Even other guests were laughing at how weird it feels and how terrible the management is. The phone number and doorbell stay also totally unanswered. For the rest, the rooms were clean and good looking, breakfast was also good and the breakfast staff was very friendly, but for the reasons mentioned above, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Beim Check-in wurde nicht aufgelistet, dass im Preis bereits das Frühstück enthalten war, so dass ich es zusätzlich gebucht hatte. Im Ausdruck des Check-ins waren keine Angaben dazu vorhanden, wie viele Frühstücke gebucht waren. Es stellte sich dann heraus, dass ich die doppelte Anzahl bezahlt hatte. Als ich um die Erstattung bat, war Kulanz von Seiten der Hotelleitung Fehlanzeige. Im Gegenteil! Es wurde stur beharrt, dass ich keine Anspruch auf Rückerstattung des Frühstücks hatte, das ich nicht eingenommen hatte. Insgesamt also eine sehr unerfreuliche Erfahrung. So etwas hatte ich bisher nicht erlebt. Das Hotel werde ich nicht noch einmal in Anspruch nehmen.

Wir waren sehr überrascht über die sehr gute Ausstattung und Qualität des Appartements. Im Vergleich zu einigen Hotels ist es außerdem angenehm ruhig. Die Tiefgarage unter der Anlage ist gut befahrbar, wenn auch eng. Wir werden das Boardinghouse gerne wieder buchen und können es nur weiter empfehlen.

Der Check-in lief chaotisch ab.
Ich war lediglich nachts für ein paar Stunden zum Schlafen im Hotel. Somit habe ich nicht viel vom Service mitbekommen. Auf jeden Fall war es sauber und gut ausgestattet.

Check in effettuato elettronicamente..ci si deve abituare. Non essendoci personale ti devi trovare da solo. La colazione è molto semplice senza molta scelta. Il parcheggio è disponibile ma molto caro. L'appartamento è molto bello e ben equipaggiato. Centrale

Bester Zustand,sehr sauber und geräumig, tolle Betten, relativ kleines Bad.
Sehr gute, ruhige Lage fußläufig zum Zentrum.
Die Garage ist wohl nur für Kleinwagen konzipert.

Die Nähe zum Bodensee ich bin jeden Morgen vor dem Frühstück eine Runde geschwommen am Rhein-Bodensee!

Die Umgebung war sehr ruhig!

Das Parkhaus war für unser großes Auto sehr eng 🙈

Schönes, neues Boardinghaus. Bisschen weit zu Fuß in die Altstadt und er Bus fährt z.T. nur 2x / Sunde. W-LAN ist auch nicht immer bereit. Komische Technikgeräusche (lautes Knacken) im Flur stören bis in die Wohnung

Kurzer Weg in die Stadt

Es war sehr sauber und die Ausstattung auch des Küchenbereiches gut durchdacht. Es gab Spülmittel, Lappen und Poliertuch sowie Geschirr und verschiedene Gläser für 2 Personen.
Die Tiefgarage ist nur für geübte Fahrer zu empfehlen. Allerdings ist in der Umgebung kaum bzw. kein Parkplatz ohne Parkuhr zu finden.
Der Weg in die Stadt ist nicht weit ca 800 Meter, wo man verschiedene Deutsche und viele internationale Gaststätten vorfindet.

Gelungener Urlaub in toller Unterkunft !

Lage, Sauberkeit und Ausstattung des Hauses waren ausgezeichnet. Sehr gutes Bett, üppiges Frühstück, Bushaltestelle nahezu vor der Tür, Bäcker um die Ecke, in der Küche hat uns nichts gefehlt! Das freundliche Personal war sehr aufmerksam, rundherum ein gelungener Urlaub.

Sehr schöne Hotel gibts nix zu bemängeln Alles TOP ! Wir werden bei bedarf nochmal buchen ! Uns hat es gefallen Vielen DANK Boardinghouse ! Für Raucher ist das Hotel nicht geeignet ! ALLES NICHT RAUCHER HOTEL DAS FINDE ICH TOLL ! :)

Sehr schönes Hotel mit allem was man braucht! Der See war Fußläufig erreichbar und bis zum Hafen ist man ca zwanzig Minuten gelaufen.
Alles in allem sehr zu empfehlen!
