Impossible to sleep
The hotel is very dated. However the main issue was lack of sleep, the room was swelteringly hot - no A/C and told not to open windows due to insects. The was no view apart from a large kitchen chimney - creating dreadful food smells. Staff didn’t care. This was room 117 - avoid in all circumstances.

The room was ok but the bed was not comfortable. There was a mix up with our room because I had done two separate bookings and they had put us in the wrong room. We didn’t want to change half way the so just put up with it. They give you a welcome drink but you only have a choice of Prosecco or water. The location is great.

The hotel is absolutely beautiful! The check-in staff was outstanding! They went out of their way to welcome us and make our check-in easy! The room was clean, comfortable, quiet and plenty of pillows. Any time we had a request for ice or any other item needed for us in our room, they were at our door within 5 minutes. The best thing is the hotel is located around 75 feet in front of the train station.

To shower it was a challenge because the drain was clogged and the bathtub was full very quickly! The shower head fell off when my husband was taking his shower, not very pleasant…

It was centrally located next to the train station. However, with a street facing room you do get a lot of street noise when the windows are open. The hotel seems to be gradually updated. I had one of the older rooms facing the street. On a Saturday evening it was difficult to sleep, even with the windows closed!

Stayed at this hotel early Feb 2020, for 120 euro. We drove in and found parking around the corner for 20 euro for 24 hrs. The hotel was beautiful, excellent location if you take the train, and comfortable clean room. One issue was the glasses for water were not totally clean. The restaurant looked amazing but we did not plan ahead and were unable to get reservations

The location is FANTASTIC!! It's directly across from the train station and the bus station. Our room faced the stations and when our windows were closed it was pretty quiet. If you leave your windows open (like we do) there is lots of talking going at the bus station at all hours of the night (college students going back to campus) but it didn't really bother us much. the hotel itself is very nice. The rooms are large and the beds are very comfortable. The staff is quite friendly and very helpful. Everything is within walking distance. Tons of cafe's, lots and lots of ice cream shops. The water front is across the street but it is a few minute walk because you have to go around the train station. We didn't get the breakfast at the hotel, we went across the street to the bread shop. They have all the coffees, breads, pastries and sandwiches. We will definitely stay here next time we come to Konstanz.

Excellent hotel and location
We booked for room only and had an excellent, large room with jacuzzi and quality bathroom consumables. It overlooked the lake and train station, so great view with no noise from the railway. Sinks were slightly worn, but otherwise the hotel is very classy. Unfortunately, though listed, there was no BBC World channel available on the TV. Staff were very helpful, particularly with advice on local pharmacies. We were also given complementary bus tickets for the two days of our stay, which we put to good use visiting the wonderful gardens of the Insel Mainau for a day using the bus stop opposite the hotel. The hotel location was great. Being opposite the railway station is excellent for travelling, but the hotel is only a short walk to the lake side and really well situated for walking around the old town. Would definitely book again.

We spent 24 hours here on our way to Fussen. The room was spacious with a separate sitting area and the view of the lake was marvelous. Staff at this hotel are helpful and very friendly. The location was perfect for walking to the lake, cafes, shopping - right in the heart of the Konstanz. Parking was a short distance from the hotel and easy to locate. If you are coming by train the station is literally across the street from the hotel. Ask for a water view on a higher floor.

We had a bath with a rickety shower attachment and curtain, everything got soaked. Breakfast is ok but if, like us, you don't eat very much then it is very pricey at 17 euros each. Try to get an inclusive deal.

Lovely hotel with very helpful staff. The only negatives are that there was a bottle of water left out so we assumed complimentary but was charged for it. Quite disappointed that a hotel this size does not give you one free bottle of water. Also tried to charge us for breakfast for both days for both rooms, which we didn't have.

The Halm is very well situated, in the Old city of Konstanz, near the train station, near restaurants and shopping. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable, but needs some renovations including the bathroom. Overall our stay was pleasant.

Points for cleanliness and location. Otherwise, nothing 4-star about this hotel, even by German standards of accommodations. Amenities are few and far between apart from toiletries and a minibar. No robe, slippers, coffeemaker, heated towel rack. Internet continuously drops. And service is beyond poor. It's not simply German efficiency, the desk staff (no concierge) were curt to the point of dismissive. Especially the male staff. One answered every question -- including do you have a printer available to print a boarding pass? -- said \"tourist office across the street has all information.\" Thanks for nothing, especially as it regards the hotel itself. (BTW, no they do not have a printer available to guests, or a business center; nor are they willing to print guests' boarding passes.) Another male staff member refused to complete my check out because I had not paid in Euros. Indeed, my stay was prepaid through hotels.com -- in U.S. dollars -- but he delayed me a good 15 minutes arguing that since payment was not denominated in Euros, it was invalid. Oh, and he sought to charge me for breakfast when none was had. In all, terribly poor service. Doesn't begin to compare to the average German 4-star hotel. Will not stay again, and would not recommend to others.

The hotel staff had their Christmas party with extremely loud music until 3 am. When calling at midnight they said it would be over soon. When calling at 1:30 They said \"the staff is enjoying the party\". Not a customer focused hotel.

Two night escape from Switzerland ...
Train trip over the border from Switzerland- hotel literally across the road from the station. Very pleasant reception staff - though busy at check-in and took a while. Room larger than expected and clean and comfortable. Didn’t take breakfast but had snack in the small, but functional bar... Great location for shops, restaurants, ferries and station. Good atmosphere and would come again.

Room was nice and spacious. Did not like how room locked and found it a safety hazard since you could only lock room from inside with a key. If key was not left in door you could be locked inside. Electronic capability was poor as you could not plug in computer or usb into TV since input button on TV remote was disabled. Some english TV but selection not great - no US or Canadian main broadcasters. Breakfast at $17.50 Euro each was ridiculously expensive for two people on long term stay. Room rates were however very reasonable. Bought kettle to make our own coffee and hot chocolate.

Literally across the street from the train station! Beautiful old building with modern updated rooms. Our room was spotless! The best room we’ve stayed in during our 12 day tour of Germany! This may not mean much to some people but we loved that there were two chairs to sit in! Most rooms only have one chair and one of us has to sit on the bed. Granted we don’t spend a lot of time in the hotel room but it’s nice to take a break in the late afternoon before going back out to dinner and being able to sit in a chair to relax!

Great convenient hotel but don't try to check in early. My wife and I (retired couple) flew from MN into Zurich, then caught the train to Konstanz. We were pretty tired when we arrived at the hotel around 11:30. Left our luggage, went to lunch, then back to hotel by 1:30. Sat in view of desk until 3:01 when they said room was ready.
And if you are hearty eaters, the breakfast (17 euros/person) is worth it.

Beautiful Area in the Old Part of Konstanz
Hotel Halm Konstanz is right in the middle of the old town Konstanz across the street from the train station. There are many shops and restaurants around the Hotel. There are parking garages within walking distance to Hotel Halm but no on-site parking nor is there valet parking.
We stayed one night, and even being right across the street from the train station, we heard very little noise. The hotel was clean and the people at reception could speak English.
Unfortunately in this area of Konstanz there are beggars, first time we encountered this in our travels through Germany. This is not the fault of the Hotel, but it is something that if you stay you need to be aware of.
We stayed one night, and even being right across the street from the train station, we heard very little noise. The hotel was clean and the people at reception could speak English.
Unfortunately in this area of Konstanz there are beggars, first time we encountered this in our travels through Germany. This is not the fault of the Hotel, but it is something that if you stay you need to be aware of.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and would definitely stay again. It is located across from the train station and a short walk to the pier. The hotel is \"modern\" but still retains the charm and character of its original decor. The room was clean and very comfortable. I was very happy with the hotel and the friendly and helpful staff. My room was perfect which had a beautiful modern bathroom with old-style bronze(?) fixtures (they looked like gold! haha!!).
The hotel is ideally situated across from the railroad station and lake steamer piers as well as the old town. The next time I visit Konstanz I'll check with them first.

We stayed two nights in a Superior Double Room. Contrary to the photographs provided on Hotels.com, this room did not have a large soaking tub in the bathroom, but rather had a very modern renovation with granite counters and a large shower with multiple options (regular shower, rain shower...etc.). Our stay was very comfortable, but unfortunately the internet was not working properly on our second day. The location was very convenient for everything, including parking. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. We had a similar experience reported by other reviewers: we used two of the glasses in the room for wine, and discovered the next day that housekeeping had removed the glasses entirely instead of replacing them.

Disappointing
The pictures are misleading. The place is old and uncomfortable. The first room we had was so small that you couldn't open 2 suitcases at the same time and that when you came out of bed you would hit your head against some of the beams in the ceiling. We ended up paying an additional 20 Euro a night for a bigger room It didn't help that Constance, the city, was just disappointing. If you want to vacation around Lake Constance try to find a resort like hotel in another area around the Lake.

Directly across the street from the train station, so very easy to find upon arrival from Zurich. The staff was friendly, and very accommodating when asked to keep our luggage until our room was ready. The beds were great, nice linens, and good pillows. Lovely Hotel Stay
Our stay at the Hotel Halm was wonderful. There was a small mixup on check-in when we were given a single room, however that was cheerfully corrected. The entire staff is wonderful and genuinely concerned that you feel happy and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable. There is a charming mix of old European charm with updated rooms and fast reliable wifi. The location in Konstanz cannot be bear. I would definitely stay here again.

The first room I got was freshly painted and smelled strongly from paint. And it did not have a desk at all. When I complained they changed me over to another room which was was quite dated but had a desk. It was ok but nothing special. I should say though that the location is superb, right at the station and the harbor.

This is a beautiful grand hotel which is in a fantastic location, being directly opposite the train station. The room was very clean and well kept. The reception staff were really friendly and professional. We don't speak German but everyone who worked there spoke excellent English. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Absolute perfection. I arrived on a Thursday with our dog, and felt very welcome. Hubby joined us the next day, and we had such a lovely time that we booked a suite for the third night. I stayed in three different rooms, and like all of them, but my favorite was room 220, looking out at the train station. It was quite large, and thie bathroom was nice, with a soaking tub! Room service from the hotel restaurant was prompt and served fabulous food and wine. The hotel is full of old-world charm. It is not advertised as a modern hotel! The front desk staff was always friendly and warm, and spoke excellent English.
