The room was not booked with a dog even that was requested at Hotels.com. The friendly recpetionist organised a room for me and my dog, but it was £20 more expensive, There was a dog charhe of 35£ instead of 25£ as on the website. I did get a room looking at a wall and it was so intensly smelling fo fresh paint that I had a headache and couldn't sleep esp a flickering fire alarm just above the bed wasn't helpful either. And all this \"joy\" for £189, no dogbed or towels (as described on the website), the food was average, the breakfast eggs and tomatos were cold and dry. Really not impressed. The restaurant might have seen better days. The views were mazing, but not from my room....

Staff were great, food good and gym was also good. Room was ok but the reason I’ve given it a 3 star was due to the shower. Door wouldn’t close so had to use loads of towels to keep the floor dry, shower tray filled with water and the shower waste cap came away revealing a very filthy waste trap. Felt like my feet had bathed in grime. Lovely place though

Premium Price – Not the Premium Stay Advertised
We booked a two-night stay in a Lake View room at Rutland Hall to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. Reviews were largely positive and the photos looked impressive, so expectations were high — unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the premium pricing.
Pros:
The location is undeniably beautiful, right next to Rutland Reservoir, and the staff we encountered were pleasant and polite.
Cons:
Our room was not in the main hall but in a separate block that felt more like student accommodation or serviced flats than a hotel. This isn’t shown in the photos. The communal entrance smelled damp and mouldy, and the room itself had poor ventilation, resulting in heavy condensation on the patio doors overnight.
While the room was advertised as a lake view, only part of the view overlooked the water, with the rest blocked by the back of the main building. Maintenance issues were evident: a leaking hot tap that had already stained the sink, a broken shower head that couldn’t be adjusted, peeling paint on the door, and a kettle with mould stains inside that remained even after boiling.
The shower was over a bath, which could be difficult for anyone with limited mobility. A coffee machine was provided, but the unbranded, cheap-looking pods gave no indication of what coffee you were drinking. There was also no fridge. No acknowledgement of our anniversary — not expected, but for £240+ per night in January. Would not book again.

A very nice hotel with great facilities. However, disabled parking spaces were occupied consistently by the hotel contractors. Mentioning this to hotel staff had no effect. This didn't help our access.

Friendly staff. Good dinner menu that was perfectly cooked with good depth of flavour and clearly a good quality stock.
Paid for a King room but the windows were right up afainst a wall, not impressed with that at all!

The room was nice and clean but the bed was firm and pillows were terrible.
It was really nice to have a balcony for the dog though.
We used the pool which was nice (busy as expected) the gym looked amazing but we didn’t use it.
We ate twice in the bar which again was nice enough.

Staff need to be better informed of which rooms have double or king size beds. Also information about heating the rooms, who would have guessed the pictures were the heaters and reaching the heater in the bathroom is too high to switch on. Slow start but otherwise really enjoyed it. Breakfast is a bit of a trek to get to in another building, what happens in bad weather?

I was lucky enough to grab one of the rental units. A large one bedroom with a living room and full kitchen. It was very quiet and relaxing. The restaurant was wonderful though a bit pricey. I would recommend this beautiful property but try and get one of the larger units.

From the outset the customer service was excellent. Lovely room with great view across to the water. Restaurant staff were so friendly and again the service was excellent. The menu was limited but what we had we thoroughly enjoyed. Perhaps a couple of traditional Indian dishes would be an excellent addition.

A ‘complex’ rather than a ‘hotel’ with facilities spread across an uphill area (transport available).
Modern touches, eg the wall pictures are your heaters (took a while to work that out and get warm - worth explaining on registration?).

Perfect stay for a girlie getaway- 50th birthday

It’s obvious that every single corner of this beautiful destination is well maintained and cared for. It’s not state of the art or brand new, but it’s beautifully looked after. It’s not ostentatious but super comfortable and high quality. The spa area was a fantastic treat. The food in Blossoms was outstanding. The team were discreet, yet warm and friendly. Lovely and friendly staff. Not enough attention to details though to take it to the next level. Cleanliness was ok but again, not enough detail. Helpful staff at front desk. New member Clara was superb. Restaurant was ok but did appreciate the hours. All not high end enough to be what it should and many areas needs jet washing and cleaning around the grounds, a lot of areas look worn and degrading.

Rooms have no air conditioning or fridge for cold drinks. Windows could only be opened by a couple of inches. Rooms too hot and claustrophobic and would not recommend a stay in the height of summer.
In addition, lift was out of order so bags had to be carried up 3 flights of stairs. No porterage service available.
Very pleasant surroundings but the rooms were over priced considering the lack of basic facilities.

Lovely setting, atrocious service and below star

Quite possibly the most frustrating check in and Check out experience that I have ever encountered. Despite filling out the pre check in information including an arrival time, when I arrived at reception there was literally a queue out the front door and into the car park. The irrelevant attempted conversation from the check in hostess is a clear indication that no one is reading the room, people are stood in line waiting to get to their rooms, stop the question time and come up with an efficient booking in system.

Dinner was excellent, I am referring to the food, beautifully cooked and hot, unfortunately the service was at best amateurish, the maitre d welcomed us, seated us and took our drinks order, great, guess what, the drinks never arrived! The server turned up to take our order and asked if we wanted drinks? We told her drinks were ordered 15 minutes ago when we sat down, our food order was taken and she reappeared a few moments later with the drinks saying they had been prepared but no one brought them to us.

The food was good, once we had finished our main course we sat for 20 with our empty plates in front of us, I really wanted to order a desert but could not get the attention of our / a server, in the end I gave up and told a passing member of staff that I wanted the bill. Similar story at breakfast with poorly cooked food, I had to request fresh fried eggs as the ones on the hot plate had gone hard. The smallest double bed I have ever seen, with no aircon, unhap

The property and rooms were clean.
The room was disappointing - we did not expect a lake view but were surprised to have a view of high brick wall a few feet from the window. We are also disappointed that the hotel rooms were scattered around the hillside in a series of blocks, like an old-style holiday camp rather the hotel we expected that was featured on all literature. Parking was available but the staff did not seem bothered at all that this may be some distance from the rooms.
The breakfast was good, to be fair.
The gym was fine but the pool too shallow for adults to swim in.

We had a few issues which we raised with the management at both the hotel reception and the restaurant. Our advise would be not to book a cosy room for two people as ours was very small and dark and really only suitable for one. We also thought the restaurant food was overpriced for the quality. One thing very much in the hotel's favour is the location as it is in the most beautiful setting so worth staying for that alone.

Great hotel

This hotel overlooks Rutland Reservoir and had some amazing views. The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We had afternoon tea in the Blossoms which was tasty and filling. And the breakfast was amazing, literally everything you could want. The only problem we had was, we booked a \"cozy\" double, their cheapest room, which was in the eaves and had slanted ceilings and unfortunately the placement of the shower meant neither me (5 foot 10) or my hubby (6 foot 2) could stand up in it.

Spotlessly clean room, delicious breakfast. Having been told the pool was open, we arrived in time for a swim only to be told it was closed again. Apology was a little half-hearted and an alternative wasn’t offered. A complimentary drink in the bar would have made this a five star rating.

VERY large (c60 x 12 ft) and clean one bedroom apartment in the stable block. Comfortable bed, instant hot water for powerful shower, well appointed kitchen. Large lounge had two comfortable big setees and a dining table. I think one of the settees converts to a bed. Nice new carpets and very clean overall

The grounds are beautiful and provide super views across Rutland Water and the rolling countryside

Staff at the hotel were very friendly

Dog friendly. We enjoyed a drink and a nice breakfast in the restaurant's dog friendly area

The only reason I didn't give a 5 star rating was due to poor heating. We were really cold for the first two nights. The storage heaters do not work nor did the convection heater in the kitchen. Fortunately one storage heater in the lounge had a manual overide and produced a bit of heat to take the edge off the cold. There is also a small convection heater in the bathroom
On the last day we realised the bedroom heater was a convection heater and not a storage heater. Again this just took the edge off the cold.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Rutland Hall Hotel, and it exceeded all expectations. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the warm welcome from the staff, who made every effort to ensure a comfortable stay. The setting is absolutely stunning, with the hotel overlooking Rutland Water, offering beautiful views and plenty of serene, natural surroundings.

The rooms were immaculate and thoughtfully decorated, combining modern touches with classic comfort. One of the highlights was the hotel’s dining experience. The on-site restaurant offered a range of fresh, locally sourced options, and the meals were outstanding. Every dish was prepared with care, and the service was attentive yet unobtrusive. Breakfast was also a treat, with a variety of choices to suit all tastes.

Overall, Rutland Hall Hotel is a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and natural beauty!

Idylic location

A lakeside hotel with views. Excellent breakfast and service. I was given a rear facing room in the Oakham annex.it saw small with little or no sound proofing (could hear the TV in the room across the hall )and a view of the wall at the opposite. It was clean and well appointed but I suspect warm in summer as no AC although a small fan is provided. Dinner in the restaurant was a bit of a walk up a couple of flights of stairs,no fun when raining. The food was ok but a challenge to find something within my meagre budget. oWe loved this hotel and intend to return one day, probably earlier in the year to see the gardens properly. Our room in the Uppingham block was clean, beautifully equipped and stylish (though I would prefer a brighter colour scheme!)and had a lovely view towards the lake and the original Hall. The food was delicious both at the buffet
breakfast and dinner, when it was cooked to order. Restaurant staff were friendly and attentive. Likewise the cleaning staff we met.

All in all a nice, much needed, restful few days, only spoilt by the weather being awful on day 1. But it was late September, so not unexpected! It seemed an expensive treat, but probably good value for money.

Beautiful grounds and stunning buildings. Rude staff - especially the judgmental receptionist who spoke down to my husband as he was dressed in his scruffs having been fishing in the England final on Rutland so wasn't as well dressed as other guests checking in for a wedding party. No Wi-Fi in the Stable Mews despite being told the property has free Wi-Fi. Over an hour to check in if you arrive the same time as a wedding party. Paper thin walls/ceilings. Insulting £50 deposit demanded on check in despite no warning in paperwork. Mouldy, clinical bathroom with no toiletries - silverfish as room mates complimentary though! Horrendously hard bed - the sofa was more comfy to sleep on for three nights. No spa on site despite the name of the property. To top it off, the housekeeping staff let themselves in 30 minutes before check out time to start turning the room around. Honestly, avoid this place. What a joke. If I hadn't prepaid, I would have cancelled on checking in and found a Premier Inn or similar.

Breakfast buffet typical - sad food dying under lights.
Gym only opens 745 weekends, have to go to reception to get code which changes daily. Why not give code on check in & change daily after guests check out then could make it 24hr.
