Nice clean room with everything you would need. Some noise from upstairs rooms due to squeaky floor boards but not a big issue. Breakfast was ok in quality, service was a little slow, especially when its pre booked for set times. Ample parking and a quiet environment make this hotel a different option to the bigger Corby locations

I’ve stayed here quite a few times when working in the area. Rooms are decent, clean. Would like a bigger tv but not the end of the world. Staff always friendly and helpful. Breakfast is really good. Most evenings I work too late to have evening food but I did eat one evening and had the most amazing Butter Chicken. Always the first place I look to book when I’m working in this area.

The area is beautiful and there is a good parking area.
The room was clean but the door and the window needed more maintenance as well as the property.
Staff needs to be better trained in both service and language.

Hotel was clean, but disappointing when we arrived at 9pm to be told we couldn't order a drink, even a bottle of wine to drink outside ? The water in the bathroom sink didnt even run cold, it was warm. The TV in the room was so small, you couldnt sit in bed to watch it . This was our 2nd stay, and we wont stay again .

Sadly the quality was only skin deep. When I walked I thought it would be fine but the bed was uncomfortable, the shower was cold and I can only assume there was a gymnastics competition going on upstairs which was very noisy.

Great value comfortable stay

Lovely old pub with an accommodation block at the rear. Further investment would return this place to it's obvious former glory, but for the price we paid we were pleasantly surprised with the quality we received and would absolutely stay again. Interesting plumbing, seemingly hot water from both taps (?!?) only added to the fun. Lovely service, brilliant Indian food, great location. The village is well worth a stroll around. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely dog friendly pub, restaurant & accomodation

We stayed two nights at The Marquess of Exeter on our way home from the west country. The room was lovely, very comfortable and clean. We ate there both evenings and the food was excellent. Lyddington is a very pretty little village, we enjoyed walking with our dog around by the church and in the countryside. We requested a downstairs room which had the advantage of doors into the gardens, this was very helpful to take our dog outside. The gardens do need tidying up but I expect they will do that as the weather gets warmer and customers want to sit outside.
Would definitely stay there again.

Definitely not a 4 star as stated. Had to change room as the mattress was terrible. Second room was better but not brilliant. Way too hot so had window open all night. No mirror in bathroom and not many toiletries. Breakfast was just average. No fruit or yoghurts.

7/10 - Ok but room to improve

Overall the stay was ok - positives were size of room, cleanliness and facilities in it. Negatives were condition of rooms, temperature and poor eco awareness.
The hotel has apparently changed hands in the last 3-4 months which may have impacted things and hopefully they can sort out.
Hotel room carpets were heavily stained in places and generally tired. It was clean, but clearly needs tidying up - especially at £130 a night for the room we had.
Bathroom was missing sink plugs in sink and bath, so no way of holding water in. Just meant we wasted water running it down the plug hole instead.
The other thing was the hotel block was very warm - too warm. Again wasting energy as we just had to open the windows for the hotel rooms to cool down.
Staff were however very polite and pleasant. Breakfast was nice- nothing special but enjoyable enough.
We would probably go again, although not sure I’d pay that much for a room again.

Will never use under this new management

The hotel was closed. We were not informed of the closure. Our clients arrived from Singapore and Australia to find notices on the door that it was closed for the foreseeable future.
The hotel has been taken over by new management who clearly thought not contacting customers to provide them with this information was acceptable.
Having spoke with the previous management( who were amazing!), They explained that all current booking information was provided at hand over.
We will never be using this venue again whilst under this management.

Very bad damp problem in wardrobe area. Could'nt hand any clothes up as the wall was very wet and smelt.Showed the manager who appollogised. I asked if we could change rooms as the damp was really bad and smelt. Unfortunately there were no other rooms available.
Radiator in bathroom was full of dust and chair in bedroom had a very wobbly leg.

The place was lovely and the Indian restaurant associated with it truly delicious. Staff were courteous and attentive. However, our bed was super hard and uncomfortable, and neither of us got a wink of sleep. But honestly, that was the only downside to an otherwise lovely stay.

A great place to stay if on business or pleasure

I have reviewed this place before but thought it was important to review again to show that they keep to the highest standards. My work head office is 25 miles away and I could stay closer to make life easier but I’m happy to sacrifice a small commute for a few days when we have meetings to stay here. The service, the food, the rooms and the personal touch is exemplary. Fast internet so you can get on with work in a relaxing country surroundings. I work nationwide and have a Premier Inn account but whenever I am at Head Office I don’t book Premier Inn I stay here. Keep up the good work, fantastic.

Reality doesn’t match booking

The photos on the listings do not match the reality of this place. We were there less than ten minutes as couldn’t stay there.The room looked very run down, smelt and had damp up the walls and ceilings. Not wallpaper and furniture looked tired. All of the windows and even fire doors were open to air the damp musty smell and we were then shown what they considered to be a superior room when they lied and said they were sold out, they were not sold out and it was not a better room. The accommodation block is away from the main pub and basically looks run down and needs a full refurbishment. Please do not book this place as it doesn’t match what you see on the website and they do not give refunds and the front desk person ignored our concerns. Absolute disgrace.

The welcome you have here is FANTASTIC, we didn’t have dinner but it smelt lovely. Breakfast as one of the best I have had and I use hotels every week, not too small, not too much and the produce quantity is definitely up there.

Disappointing hotel in a beautiful village

First the positives - room was fine, comfortable bed and excellent shower. They seemed very short staffed but the single member of staff who we saw most of the time tried to be helpful.
So overall our stay was ok.
Now for the not-so-positives. Whilst the decor of the room and restaurant were fine, the standard of the corridors etc was poor - e.g.peeling paint
As other people have mentioned, the breakfast was not so good. Only cooked breakfast or toast, no cereals. Juice was available only when asked for. I asked for just fresh tomatoes on the second morning. I was expecting grilled or fried but was brought a full cooked breakfast with a very cold tomato bang in the middle of it obviously just taken straight out of the fridge. Only white toast was brought, no brown bread offered let alone croissants or danish pastries. So not up to 4 star standard in my opinion.
The worst experience was the evening meal. We booked the restaurant for 6.30, ordered our meal after about 20 minutes and finally got it at about 8.15. It wasn't just us - the restaurant was quite busy and no food was coming out of the kitchen at all.
The Indian food when it finally did arrive was nice, but not as great as the hotel's website had led us to believe. We decided not to bother with dessert to maybe have to endure another 90 minute wait. So all in all a disappointing evening.
The village itself is very pretty. There's a great opportunity here for a good hotel. But this one has a long way to go.

Property lacked maintenance and needed quite a lot of work doing. Covid has obviously taken its toll on the rooms. Owner was juggling his staff between his 3 properties and leaving a shortage at the Marquess. Breakfast was very limited with no menu at all. For the price I was very dissatisfied and disappointed.

From check in to check out I was very happy with everything this hotel had to offer. On arrival the staff were friendly and attentive, had a couple of drinks at the very clean bar, again the staff were great. Felt as if I was in my local pub and I like it there! The restaurant was bright, clean and airy and the food was fabulous. The room was clean and spacious, bed was a bit hard but that’s not a complaint as I prefer a softer bed. Breakfast was quality and check out was again easy and quick. Overall this is a very positive review to the extent that when I stay in this area again, and it is close to my head office, I won’t even bother looking for other places based on price I will just book here again if the have availability. Also the Wi-Fi is faster than my internet at home! A great little find!

I have never been so disappointed this is not 4 star more like 1 star
Breakfast no table laid only offered cooked breakfast no orange juice offered no cereal no menu waiter very abrupt I spoke to another couple who booked 3 nights only to be told there was no restaurant for their first 2 days and when they asked for a menus as I did he kept repeating to them cooked breakfast she said sh was vegetarian so he said I will take the sausage and bacon off!!
I had bait boxes for insects all scattered around the room my dog got hold of one so I had to look everywhere so the dog did not chew them I was not warned the room was like a hot house no air condition for a 4 star you would of thought it would have it although I had a door I could open I could not leave this open all night nor tie my dog up so he wouldn’t venture out
I had to ask for water which was so posed to be in the room no fan I had to ask for one
I will never recommend this place there are many other things I can say but nothing good their status should be rechecked

OK if you dont mind dogs

I'm not a dog person and never realised I'd booked a dog friendly hotel until i got there.
On saying thst the room was clean and fresh, with no dog smell at all, the bed and pillows ere comfy and the shower was good.
I didnt enjoy my first night, as the couple next door had a dog and decided it was time to start play with it after midnight, this included the owners howling a wolf to make his dog bark and even later in the night it was running around outside.
I was booked for two nights and after hardly any sleep, I very seriously considered ending my stay.
I talked to reception and they said the couple and dog where not staying the next night, so i decided to stay.
The second night was better and what i expect from a hotel.
Breakfast was ok but nothing to rave about, there wasn't a massive selection, no fruit and fibre or cornflakes, which is generally standard most places, no croissants and not really a lot of fruit available either.
I found the walls to thin and the doors really make a big bang when they close.

I wouldn't stay again but, it is a nice place, and I found all staff really pleasant and polite.

I guess there are good dog owners and then there are bad, i coul never take the chance of staing in a room next to a bad dog owner unfortunately.

Dated but clean room. Room set up for 2 people but we asked for family as our daughter was with us. Had to get sofabbedvset up as no linen or towels supplied for 3rd guest.
Service in hotel for breakfast very slow but courteous.
Wifi stopped working Sunday morning. Reported it in the afternoon but not fixed by the timevwe left Monday am.
