Check in was fine, room was a good size if a little tired, being on the side of the car park there was road noise so ear plugs useful. Shower was small but was fine for what I needed. Car park is huge & suitable for those with large vans, with it being a reasonable distance from the NEC a good place for traders. Pub next door which I didn't use but was clean & tidy. Everything was perfectly adequate for what I required.

A big room- felt like someone stolen 1/2 the furniture - acres of carpet, but nothing except a desk & 2 bedside tables- soulless and cold feeli it appeared to be clean and the bed linen was clean & relatively new. The toilet and basin were clean. However, tops of tiles were thick with dust. outside corners of shower tray were dirty and mouldy. Shower head lots of limescale. when I went to make a coffee this morning the kettle had bits of black sitting in the bottom of it I swilled it out 3 times there was still bits of fine black soil looking dirt. I gave up trying to have a coffee/ when I went to use it this morning, there was no cover on the shower trap and the opening and rim were grubby and dirty what made it even worse was when I was sharing there was something floating and bouncing around inside the shower tray drain
At checkout I pointed out the issues and tried to show them photos I've taken, but they were really not interested. They simply said that oh well, when you stay next time, maybe we can do something. We had an overall great stay! The manager was lovely! Unfortunately some of the bar staff not so much. We had a starter missed off our food and we asked for the baby’s meal to come out with the starters. Which did not happen even though we were told this was fine. There was no apology for the missing starter or for the fact the baby’s food did not come out. They were just dumped in the table. I think this let the place down a little. As the staff in the evening were generally not as good as in the morning. Although the man with black hair (pattern on the side) was very helpful through our whole stay.

The food was however amazing and the prices were so reasonable! Would definitely recommend eating here!

I didn't select this option but as I booked a number of hotels for our trip I didn't recall each one. Wish they had been clearer but the breakfast was both good and reasonably priced. I would definitely suggest staying here if you are in the area.

HH is perfectly acceptable, it’s a high turnover hotel with functions also available/happening. The staff work tirelessly and have a smile on their faces. Never usually have an issue with noise but this time there was music ongoing until around 2am, couldn’t be sure if it was from the hotel or not, there was also an acrid smell of smoke that eventually led me to closing the windows on one of the hottest nights of the year.. The morning revealed a layer of ash over all the cars, not sure if it was a hotel function or a property nearby, unfortunately couldn’t find any staff early in the morning to ask.

One of the wall lights didn't work. Staff were not attentive - we asked for a hairdryer which didn't materialise, also likewise an extra pillow.

I was kept awake throughout the night by terribly creaky floorboards above me. It was constant, which I can't quite understand - I'd expect occasional noise from people coming in late or getting up to use the facilities, but near-constant..? I wondered if there was perhaps a room upstairs used by night staff and they were walking around...?
The soundproofing between rooms isn't great either, with other occupants' conversations and televisions easily audible, and distracting if you're trying to rest or work.
Anyway, by the second night, I decided to cut my losses and checked out early. Another problem I have is high-anxiety and so I wasn't able to raise the issue with staff to perhaps change room or anything.
If you don't suffer from being overly-aware/affected by noise, then you might be okay here. Otherwise, you probably want to look elsewhere.

The general cleanliness in the bar area was poor and a very strong smell of curry around the reception area at all times.
The glass doors were very dirty showing that regular cleaning is not a priority.

Overall a good stay at Hockey House, friendly staff, excellent food and a good night's rest. My only concern is that a superior double is nothing more than a standard double just a slightly larger room. No chairs or stool to sit on just a bed, a table with drinks making facilities and a standard bathroom.

The bedroom walls are paper thin so you can hear everything in the next room, including people walking on the creaky floorboards. The bathroom could do with a deep clean as there was mould all over the tiles and the shower door wouldn’t shut. If you book on Expedia, they’ll charge you an extra £10 for parking at the hotel, so be warned.

My idea of a hotel stay is somewhere where i can have peace and quiet whilst trying to sleep. You could hear the floor boards ceeaking and alomst felt as of the ceiling was going to fall through. Loud music to put up with also. Creaky old floor boards inloke most others iv seen.
