Should improve service attitude

I stayed two nights and nobody came to clean my room, despite the fact that I hung a \"please clean my room\" sign outside my door from morning until late at night.

I simply informed the receptionist (without even complaining) the following day during my checkout. The receptionist simply stated, \"Why didn't you call last night, now the duty person has already left,\" without sorry or apologizing, and with an unhappy demeanor, as if it were all our fault.

We booked the basic room. The first room we were given had a foul musky smell that was quite repulsive. We requested for a change of rooms, were given one floor up. It was okay but not fantastic, the musky smell was still there. The bed had a bit of stain, the shower didn’t have hot water until half an hour later. Other than these, it was okay as we only stayed a night.

Convenient location and clean

Convenient location, within walking distance to Jonker Street and attractions. At the riverside. Clean and big room. Downside - there is no in-room fridge and safe which is inconvenient. Staff offered to keep in the kitchen fridge and send to us when we call.

With or without window doesn't really matter if there's no river view as you will be overlooking another building (which I'm sure you will not even open the window). Overall is a pleasant stay- Spacious, clean, great location. One thing to note is that the room I got they actually combine 2 single beds instead of one king size bed (I booked king deluxe room). Bed is not that comfy though.

Hotel was disappointing to say the least. For the kind of price we paid we were expecting a more boutique hotel experience. View was blocked by a tree and the breakfast was very poor. Design of a/c unit, blowing straight at the bed, was poorly conceived. Bathtub was not exactly clean; car park was far and there is no guard to watch over the car park. No bellboy to help us with our luggage when we arrive AND leave the hotel. Room only come with one key card…I could go on and on but when you compare this hotel room prices with others my conclusion is we would not return to this hotel next time we visit Malacca.

We stayed 1825 Gallery Hotel from 19th to 21st Jul 2019. We had a pleasant experience. The rooms were large and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was, overall, very helpful. The hotel is centrally located near the tourists attractions like Jonker Street and the historical monuments. If you care to walk a little further, you can also reach the Bukit Cina area. My only feedback to the hotel is to ask large cars/SUVs to leave their car keys at the front desk before they go out for their day excursions as due to the tight angles of the lots, cars that park further in the carpark may be blocked from existing the lots, as happened to my car. Either that or cars should be valet parked.

What an excellent property in Melacca. Most properties in Melacca are fairly low quality and dilapidated, but this hotel is in tip top shape, beautiful surroundings, great facilities, and the location is excellent. It is close enough to the tourist spots to easily walk to them, but far enough away to offer you some peace and quiet. The only downside of this property is the car park is a short walk to the hotel.

Great Location, Comfortable Stay

I've stayed at this hotel numerous times over the years. The hotel has been maintained quite well, and is still reasonably clean, stylish and comfortable. It's one of the more expensive boutique hotels in the old town, but is still good value. The location is excellent. Next to the river and a short walk from Stadthuys and Jonker. Rooms are airconditioned, bathrooms are well-sized and equipped, and wifi is reasonably strong. A lift serves all 3 floors of this hotel. My room was quite large and overlooked the road. While this made the room nice and bright, it was also quite noisy. Some of the rooms look into the external courtyard or onto the blank wall of the adjoining building. The best and most expensive rooms look onto the Melaka river. The rooms are generally very acceptable - linen is comfortable, a/c is sufficiently cold, baths have the usual amenities and rainshower. Carpark is located about 80m away. The open-air parking is free for hotel guests but is not secured at night and can be quite tight to maneouvre into and out of.

Everything was okay. But dissapointing due to the carelessness of housekeeping staffs. My room came with pieces of broken glasses in the balcony. Nearly hurt my feet.Emailed them.. slow response.only replied the next day upon check out.. called the reception sent some one to just picked it up..Below my expectation. With the price I am paying, its better to go Doubletree Melaka instead. Poor breakfast, were told that theres a semi buffet breakfast, but apparently it was a set menu. Where we had to choose from. Baked beans were cold. No fruits being served nor milk. Not good.

Service is below par. Staff not well trained. Came back to room and there was no housekeeping. And towels were poor quality. The aircon pad was not working. Very comfortable stay. We booked the superior king with window. No view but at least we get some natural light! Though there are visible stains on the carpeted floor of the room, it was nothing much to be bothered with. No fridge in room too. Location of hotel is perfect! The back door allows easy access to Jonker Walk, which made it so convenient. Highly recommended!

The room was very spacious, too spacious actually. It was missing a mini fridge though. Although the bathroom was clean, the balcony floor wasn't clean (bits of food and dirt). The carpet smelt a bit funky but I guess, that's the problem with our weather and carpeted rooms (carpet wasn't very clean though). Front desk could have been a bit more pleasant. Also, if you're driving, don't bother parking at the hotel parking because it's very narrow. With no parking attendant, some drivers blocked the entrance and it was very difficult to drive out. Would probably only return for the bathtub and the location. Otherwise, it was just so-so.

This is a beautiful hotel in a great location. The river view room is outstanding and the welcome reception by staff was very good. I would give it 5 stars if several areas are improved: the spa looks great but doesn't work effectively. For the price paid, the room should provide higher quality accessories and a fridge; The breakfast was very average and not in keeping with the superior standards of the hotel. Lastly, the Guest Instructions are not welcoming. They refer to a long list of warning, fines and charges for everything under the sun. Fix these things and this is a tremendous place to stay.

Requested an hour extension to check out. Reception did not listen and when I held her accountable the both girls got angry. I remained calm and they accused me of being rude. What I did was ask her what I said and when held to task the girl squirmed and lashed out at me for being rude! She was the one who raised her voice! Disappointing. I said it takes more than a pretty face.

The view from the suite is amazing! Super beautiful! Service was also very good. The biggest downside was the room not having a mini fridge and that the hotel cannot provide extra pillows. Not too sure if it’s the season but in the evening, there are many mosquitoes which made us itch a lot when we sit at balcony for sunset.

The indian guy in the reception was very polite and helpful. we were allowed to check in by 1.30pm when the actual check in time is 2pm since the room is done earlier. room was so clean with a pleasant fragrance. the view through the window added the beauty of the overall room. my son thoroughly enjoyed by jumping on the comfy bed and with the spacious bathtub. night view behind the hotel was calm and quiet. we could just walk like few kilometers along the river with good views and places. hawker stalls around the hotel area serves delicious foods with cheap prices. It was a memorable school holiday getaway with family.

Style over substance Hotel

The good: location (besides Melaka river), interior design of ground floor is excellent, room is big.

The bad: air-cond focused on one side of bed, bathroom has not mechanical ventilation fan, no shaver; king bed was two single beds stitched together, bed was too stiff for side sleeping; window view sees most of the roof top; no bed side lighting control; especially not pleased with the reception staff's request to place the small piece of paper notice on car's dashboard to use the hotel's parking (they asked to fill the information which can be done thru online and they can inform the staffs of the vehicle why the hassle for the guess to have do it?!), the request for RM200 deposit which was not mentioned, and the use of credit card for it shall need to wait 14 working days refund!

The location is great and I loved the furnishings and overall decor. The beds were not uncomfortable, but they weren't fabulous. The biggest disappointment was breakfast. Not only was the tea way oversteeped and the eggs mediocre, there was a stench in the air from being near the drainage sewers for the river.

Arrived at the hotel late at around 8pm after a long day drive. I was first disappointed that the hotel carpark was closed due to road works and yet the hotel staff did not know about it. I even had to lead to them towards the road and show them the road works to convince them.

Had a room at the ground floor and directly behind the main lobby. Luckily this is not a big hotel, hence it is not exactly noisy. I booked a window room, and was disappointed again. When I opened the curtains, I was greeted by a huge white wall which belongs to the neighbouring shophouse. It was so near to the window that I am not being exaggerated that it was within my arms reach.

Air-condition within the room can be better. It took around 1-2 hours before the room is cooled entirely. I believe it is due to the big room size and small air-condition unit. Room itself is big and clean. Bed is comfortable but the pillows can be better. To be honest, I wouldn't come here again.

A very warm welcoming and wonderful services by the staffs. The front office staffs were all really friendly. They greet every time when see us. They even passed to me map of Melaka and suggested on the places to visit and the routes.

The serving method for the breakfast was satisfied me a lot. Not a 'self-service' buffet but an ala carte style where everything comes after me while me are just sitting there. The cafe staffs were really friendly and they didn't show any faces even when we kept calling them for this and that.

Below expectations, but great location

Lovely looking hotel, let down by average service, a strange smell in the room with poor soundproofing as it faced a busy road and average food selection and quality at breakfast, I would recommend skipping breakfast and eating out. The furnishings were impressive in the hotel and the room, especially the jet bathtub. Though I was expecting a bit more overall for the price of the Executive Suite, especially when compared to other hotels/rooms of a similar price. The location was fantastic, but i’m glad I only stayed one night to be honest.

Located on the Malacca river a short stroll from Jonkers Street, the Gallery is an excellent new boutique hotel in the Peranakan shophouse style. The rooms are very comfortable and relaxing and the ambience thoughtful and calm. The bed was very comfortable the rooms elegantly decorated and the bathroom spacious. the only issue was the spa bath which didn't work and the plumbing appeared a little challenged.
The restaurant attached to the hotel also had a fine and relaxing ambience close to the river. The food was excellent and well priced. The only problem was the drinks . The bar looked to have by its display a range of wines and spirits. In fact it didn't. The staff would not sell wine by the glass and despite having bottles of whisky and brandy on the shelf, they were all apparently empty. WHen we decided to buy a bottle of Australian white at 200 ringgit a pop, on Christmas eve we were told they had run out of white.

The location of the hotel is SUPERB! other than that the hotel is nice but lack of amenities and the staff that served me was inexperience. There is no mini fridge in the room, I can't even have cold drinks given that the weather in Melaka was so hot. The staff at the counter failed to tell me that the location of the hotel carpark a nd resulted that I got a fine ticket. I told them that nobody told me where is the carpark although they know that I drove there. The hotel did not took the initiative to pay the fine for me as it was their mistake failing to inform me the location of the carpark. An accident happened during my stay. The cotton bud that I used to clean my ears after shower got stuck in my ear. The cotton part came off from the stick. I told the hotel staff and they don't show any kind of concern at all although the cotton bud was provided by the hotel. They did not take the initiative to provide any kind of help. I injured my ear badly (bleeding badly) in order to get the cotton out of my ear. I went to the ENT specialist the next day and it cost me RM290.30 to get the cotton out of my ear. I told the manager when I checked out and she was just smiling and laughing it off. The only reason that I will go back to this hotel again, is the location. The hotel should trained their staff better and should trained them for emergency incident in order to provide better and helpful service.

Hotel Staffs with High Integrity (Mr H Hasrul)

I accidently left my gold chain in the room after checked out. Hotel staff called me quickly to inform me but I was on my way back. Mr Hasrul and Ms Fanny who have helped to make arrangement to send the item back to me by courier. Excellent integrity and helpful which only those 5 stars hotel staff may offer. Keep up the excellent work.

Good hotel theme, breakfast is good under greenery environment.

Room is large but there is water leaking at the jucuzzi bathtub whenever we turn on the tap. There's not fridge within the room and hence, not possible to have any cold beer in the room.

Other than that, location is very near to Jonker Street and honestly, very good view of the river.

Search other hotels first before you decide

Hotel front desk reception is not really helpful in giving you recommendation. When asked about the Nyonya restaurant, answer: \"Many Nyonya restaurants along Jonker Street\";when asked about breakfast place, answer: \"Along Jalan Bunga Raya you can find Chinese coffee shops both sides.\" But we had to walk quite a distant to reach.
Room cleanliness to be improved. Left over rubbish from previous guest were still found in the dustbin and stain on coffee cup.
Good point, comfort bed & pillows, spacious room and hotel did pay attention in decorate the lobby and hotel area during Halloween season. No-window room is ok, you won't feel stuffy due to room size is big (Superior King). Location is strategic too, near to famous Capitol Satay celup (5min walk) & Jonker Street (within 10min). Hotel next to Melaka River, smelly sometimes. Good to see but not to smell. Wi-Fi is strong.
Free parking (abt 20 lots) are available nearby (within 2min walk from hotel entrance at river), but at your own risk.
Overall, you should be able to find better hotel with this price you paid.

The hotel is located at a strategic place.If you want to walk to the Jonker street, it will take about 15-20m walk. The hotel is quiet/ peaceful , well decorated/well designed. The friendly staffs and check in process defintely made our day.

Customer Service was good on the whole. I did request the room to be cleaned (and put request tag on door) on 2 separate occasions when I was out of the hotel. This did not happen.
The biggest criticism is the demeaning issue of the front desk having to check the room prior to issuing the deposit refund- I've travelled extensively and have not experienced this.

Nice View with nice design, but the maintenance...

Even though they have nice view for the River View Jacuzzi Room, the jacuzzi was out of order during we stayed while we paid a higher price for this, and we need to take shower in a standard room too. I am asking for a refund for the price difference but there is no feedback up to now for a week from the hotel nor expedia......it is not reliable as the hotel manager promise to give me a reply when i check out.

Comfortable Charming Hotel in Malacca

Great location on the boardwalk by the river. Quaint & charming hotel with modern & tasteful antique furnishing. Highly recommended & would definitely stay there again.:)

One point short of excellent

I visit Melaka often, and am glad I decided to try this hotel for a night. I selected a windowless room, but it wasnt as claustrophobic as I feared it would be. Location, comfort, cleanliness, bathroom, linen, wifi...etc was all very acceptable. There's a lift, which helps. Interior design is stylish and tasteful. Parking is unsheltered and located about 100 metres away , but this is typical of boutique hotels in the Old Town. The room was bright and large enough for 2 pax. However, a big minus point (it may not be a big deal to anyone else) - I asked for 2 room cards but was told they only give one card per room - EXTREMELY inconvenient and downright silly, since every other hotel I've stayed in gives 2 minimum. Also - TV reception & channels (like most hotels I've tried in in Melaka) are pathetic.

1825 is new and within walking distance of Jonker Street. Room is comfortable. However, we discovered that the toilet bowl was stained and there were no hand/face towels. Clearly housekeeping did a sloppy job.
